IMovie 4.0.1 Says It's "Damaged"

iMovie 4.0.1 will not start. When I click on a project or start the program, it tells me, "You cannot open the application 'iMovie' because it may be damaged or incomplete." I was making a movie just an hour ago when I had the wrong video format. I went to convert it. When I converted it and tried to import it, it said "Critical System Error (401)." So I did the old-fashioned reboot, then I tried to start iMovie again. That's when it told be the error the first time. Any ideas?

I just searched the forum for similar terms (damaged or incomplete) and I found instructions for iPhoto. I'm going to try them (basically something about removing the receipt file, putting the application into the Trash, and then reinstalling the application from the original disk).

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

Indesign says it's "damaged"

I've Indesign cs3 version file (book). The Indesign get crashed while select the text. when I try to open my file Indesign says it's "damaged", this is xml flowed file, I can open other Indesign files,
I'm on a PC running Windows 7 and the file in question is large, 16 mb. I think it might have been created on CS3. I need to proceed this file in CS6.
Please find the screen shot and application file in attachment. Can anyone give me a solution for this problem.

You can try the tool at INDDRecovery — a program for restoring corrupted InDesign documents or the blind export to IDML script (in CS6, it won't run in CS3) in the first response to this thread: Adobe Community: InDesign 6 is crashing when attempting to open a particular document. All others are opening OK.
If you want to move this project to CS6, the best advice I can give you is to export each of the component files to .inx from CS3, then open the ,inx files in CS6 and save as new .indd files with new names (DO NOT OVERWRITE the original versions), then add them to a new .indb Book file.

Were your PDF documents originally the email attachments opened in Apple Mail on your iPad/iPhone? Apple Mail may have corrupted your PDF documents.

Delete the App Store app by dragging it and dropping it into the Trash. Then download and install the appropriate update combo for your version of OS X;

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Your iPhoto Library is stored separately from your iPhoto application, therefore reinstalling iPhoto as the error message describes, will not affect your iPhoto Library.

Csound1, William & Sig .... thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I fear you are right - I'll need a new disk. I'm booked in at the Apple Genius Bar in Bordeaux, France on Wed ... quite a challenge as my French isn't great! The current internal disk is 500gb, does anyone know whether I can upgrade my 21.5" iMac (circa Oct-2009 vintage) to a larger size internal disk, 1Tb or even 2Tb? I already have one external 2Tb drive and another one on order (I have masses of media stored and more planned as I've just taken up photography). Seems a bit of a pain managing with only 500gb internal storage. OR, can you advise me on how I can store all my photos on my new 2Tb external drive - I can't seem to figure out how to set the path for iPhoto to see them (I can't even figure out where they are stored right now!). Same with iTunes, how do I set the default storage to the external drive (I moved everything manually and then imported them all from the new drive - it worked but seemed very convoluted). Any advice on how to manage multiple drives gratefully received. And thanks again for previous replies.

Automatically save every minute(s) = 1
Maximum Project Versions = 5
In the Adobe Premiere Elements AutoSave Folder were:
My new video project-1.prel (first and the oldest)
My new video project-2.prel
My new video project-3.prel
My new video project-4.prel
My new video project-5.prel (last and the newest)
I am OK with the first 5 with the maximum project versions = 5, but.....
Since I have set for only 5 versions, where do the subsequent versions go every 1 minute since you continue to
see only the above file names in the Adobe Premiere Elements AutoSave Folder.
My new video project-1.prel
is now the 6th AutoSave and replaces the original first AutoSave.
My new video project-2 prel
is now the 7th AutoSave and replaces the original second Auto Save.
Since I did 7 AutoSaves, this is the last and the newest.
My new video project-3.prel is still the original third AutoSave.
My new video project-4.prel is still the original fourth AutoSave.
My new video project-5.prel is still the original fifth AutoSave.
So, after the generation of the 10 th AutoSave, all the original 5 AutoSave would be gone,
and the My new video project-5.prel would then again become the last and the newest)
As for the question about

Yes, but review the Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks for the locations of the scratch disc. If same as
project, then those scratch disc will end up in the folder with the AutoSave which has become your project.prel.
A battery failure was at the core of this situation. So you should be OK moving forward.

Premier won't let me import a simple AVI file? Says "unsupported or damaged file." Help!

I did a 3d animation in 3ds max and I rendered it as an AVI, per my instructor, and then tried to import it into Premier to be able to add audio and edit it a little. When I try to import any of the files (I had three different cameras in 3ds max so I rendered 3 different AVI's) it just says "Unsupported or damaged file" for all three of them. The files play just fine in media player and work everywhere else on the computer, but stupid premier won't let me import! What should I do? I'm worried if I convert it to another file type that it'll destroy the compression. This is for a class and we have to have a very specific file size and type. Please help me!
P.S. I'm not very good with code and programming, I don't know what a CODEC or a wrapper or any of that stuff is, please just give me suggestions of what to do and how to do it. Thanks so much!

How do I move photos from iphoto to imovie trailer? It says just drag and drop but it doesn't take them.

You cannot put photos in a trailer. They are designed for videos.
However, there is a way around this.
Go to the Project Library view. Select your Trailer. Now, click FILE/CONVERT TO PROJECT.
Now you can add photos.

Normalized Esko PDF won't open in Illustrator, says it's damaged and cannot be repaired

Esko hasn't been able to help me with this, they say it's a Adobe issue. When I trap a normalized PDF, then try and view it in Illustrator I get the message that the file is damaged and cannot be opened. It's very strange, it's very sporadic.

What is the original application that made the PDF? What version of Esko are you using? What version of Illustrator? What happens if you change the file extension to .ai? Is the PDF open in Esko viewer when you try to open it in Illustrator?

MacMini saying HDD is damaged during OSX Mavericks install

Ok I finally started up my MacMini and downloaded the OSX Mavericks upgrade. Problem is now that it's restarting to upgrade and it's saying my HDD is damaged and can't be repaired. Says to resart, delete everything and retry. Except now it's stuck in a restart cycle and keeps trying to install Mavericks but of course it has the same error.
Now since it's a MacMini I don't have a wired keyboard, just bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
I can't figure out now what to do short of buying a keyboard which being in SE Asia it's not cheap. I may be able to pick up a generic wired kayboard but not sure how it would work with a Mac.
I searched and seems this is a problem. Not sure if it's because of Mavericks or my HDD is really damaged.

I'm not sure a wireless keyboard will work in the Recovery Volume.
Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions. Then reinstall the OS which should be Mountain Lion if Mavericks hasn't installed.

Hp is saying suspected water damage

I have a hp dv6, i was working on my PowerPoint at my desk and the computer shuts off with no warning. A power chord will not power it back on. I called hp, they sent a box out, I have a factory warranty on it. I called and talk to someone who says that there has been water damage that caused my motherboard to crash. I'm pissed I'm paying 36,000 a semester and now I can't pass my classes because all of my finals and papers were on that computer. I paid about 1,400 dollars for that computer I only had it about 8 months. I have never put water to my computer or I would not have shipped it I am so angry someone needs to replace my computer. My computer shut off while in working on a 30 slide PowerPoint there was no water involved ever. The computer just randomly powered off.
