IMovie 5.0.1 extending my timeline past 5:0:7:03 minutes

Is there anyone who can suggest something I am not doing correctly??? Also I hope after you read this, you won't be scratching your head thinking "where did this one come from?"
I am in the process of creating an iMovie, which I would like to import to iDVD to burn for viewing on the T.V. later. My project includes still photos and video clips from my digital camera, all which are imported from iPhoto.
While I have been successful in doing this project so far, I get to the end of the timeline viewer and everything comes to a stop. I can't add any other still photos or video clips. The time on the timeline is only 5 minutes 7 seconds, and I know that a dvd can hold a lot longer portion of time than that. I have read that others have projects that are up to an hour. So where am I going wrong?
Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong??? and provide some direction?
I await with great anticipation.

Hi catspaw,
Thanks for the suggestions. I was working on my project yesterday and noticed that when I deleted a clip from the end and then added some extra time to view the still photos I was able to add to them without any problems. I have created other projects using the still photos and the video clips and the audio is okay. It becomes difficult when there is background noise or the person in the video clip is speaking softly. However I can increase the video volume and it comes across pretty good. It is not what a professional would like, but I am happy with it.
I use my Fuji Digital camera FinePix E510. After the still photos and video clips have been downloaded into iPhoto the info on them is DSCF(then the number of the clip)AVI. I am not sure if that is what you were looking for. If not send a reply and I can see what else I can tell you.
Thanks for the info on extending my time by the way, I will look at those links you provided and check out the info.

  • Extend the timeline by copy paste

I'd like to copy and paste a set of keyframes and frames at the end of the exisiting timeline... maybe several times to extend the timeline.
However I've been a bit flumoxed as to how a simple chore like that is done.  It does not appear one can copy the frames, then set the cursor at the end and past the frames ahead of cursor,
Or do I have to create multiple layers to get the same effect by placeing them end to end down the timeline.
In the included screen shot, I'd like to copy/paste the frames on layer1 on down the time line but still on layer 1.
As you can see I've started using layers to create the same effect... but is that really the way to do it?

    release the mouse and shift
hold down pc:ALT mac: Option and click anywhere in the selected/highlighted tween span and drag the frames to the right.
this technique will work on multiple layers as well.
Ahhh cool.  A little different than some applications but still sort of obvious now I see how its done.
    Thanks

How can I stop iMovie from making thumbnails of clips from past projects when first opening the program to digitize new clips for a new project. It takes forever for it and is very annoying. I have looked in the preferences and couldn't figure out what would disable this problem.

You do not need to move your cursor much when pressing the mouse button to cause the tab to tear-off/tear-away into a new tab. No "sensitivity" setting that I am aware of. The tab in the new window can be dragged back to the original window.
To disable the feature, install this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bug489729-disable-detach-and-t/

  • How do I move clips in one pane of iMove (10.0.3) into the timeline?  iMovie somehow doesn't realize I'm trying to edit the clips.

How do I move clips in one pane of iMove (10.0.3) into the timeline?  iMovie somehow doesn't realize I'm trying to edit the clips.

    Try this:
Select a small portion of the clip in the event (Above the timeline)
Click and hold and drag that section into the timeline, it should snap into place but if you drag it above another clip, it will not replace it but will be placed on top and the sound from the other clip will still play. Also this will allow you to use Blue/Green screen modes as well as picture in picture.
The best way is to drag it to the far right

  • Is there any way to extend an object past the canvas?

I'd like to know if there is any way to extend an object past the canvas and onto the background of a web page created with iWeb '08. When I move an object it gets clipped at the edge of the canvas. What I'd like to do is:
    1) Place AdSense outside the canvas, to the right, on the background.
    2) Place an image so part of it is on the canvas, and part of it is on the background. (kind of like the iWeb icon where the picture extends past the cork board)
Is this possible to do with iWeb? If not, is it possible to do editing the HTML once it has been generated?
When I move an object so its partially on the canvas and partially on the background, what make the part on the background invisible? Is there a piece of CSS that's doing this? (and if so how do I turn it off)
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • IMovie is repeating clips after the timeline is over! HELP!!

I have a 40 minute iMovie project. At the end of the 40 minutes, imovie continues, past the end of the timeline, and is repeating video from earlier in the project(about 10 minutes earlier) without any audio, as I extracted the audio to make way for a soundtrack. I tried putting in a blank clip, as well as deleting all of my chapter markers, but it's still doing that. How do I stop it? This is important, as this project is making me $600, and I need to correct it quickly!

Tried quitting iMovie and restarting to see if it still does that?
Sometimes iMovie plays sections of video and/or audio from a memory cache, to avoid a slowdown involved in reading from the hard disc.
It's just possible that it's playing back material in its memory, as well as what's in your Timeline.
It's also possible that if you've moved around your extracted audio clip(s), you may have something (..audio and/or video..) positioned way beyond where you think your Timeline ends. Have you used the scrollbar at the bottom to scroll all the way, as far as humanly possible, to the extreme right, to see if there's nothing lurking there? ..And do that with 'Zoom' set to its lowest value, so that you really are scrolling to the very end of the movie.
I've had this kind of trouble in early versions of iMovie 4, but never had it yet in iMovie (5) HD.

  • IMovie audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !

iMovie 11  audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !
I have created a project where I have a montage of photos and video clips edited together with music under. Some audio portions of the video files are being muted in some areas and those portions are being heard in another part of the project. This is not for all video clips only certain ones.
The project plays fine in the timeline, but when I render the project thru iTunes or Media Browser, this is when the project goes corrupt.
I tried detaching the Audio from the video clips and this somewhat worked, but the original problem still exists with certain audio still being heard where it's not supposed to be.

    I have a fix - or rather, a workaround.
WARNING: It is lengthy, but still far better than starting a new project from scratch.
I had this same issue and none of my transitions/clips were at custom speeds, nor did I have anything else weird going on. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do within iMovie to fix this, at least there wasn't for me. iMovie is BY FAR the buggiest software I have ever used and if you haven't already spent hours slaving away on a project, you are so much better off using just about anything else to edit your video.
...But let's assume you have already spent many hours working on your project and you don't want to start all over. Well then, you have at least one option.
It's a pain in the neck, but it's infinitely better than restarting your project from scratch.
    This will require:
A software called Soundflower (which is free) and some kind of audio editing software (I use Logic, but really any should work).
1.) You're going to need to export your video with the messed up audio. Typically if you're audio is messing up, you're video is at least usually working just fine (at least it always does for me).
2.) You're going to need to open that video in your audio software and import only the audio. If your software doesn't give you this option, then you're going to need to record the audio from your video using the audio software and Soundflower. You can find tutorials on how to do this, but it's honestly pretty straightforward once you start playing around with you Mac's audio I/O settings. Remember to have your computer's volume all the way up when doing this.
3.) Watch/listen to your video and make notes of where the audio errors occur. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND writing down times too,  as they will be extremely helpful later.
4.) Now were going to rip some working audio from the iMovie project itself. Go back into your iMovie project and only play back audio while in the edit window for this step. Do NOT play your project back in full screen.
This part is key: if you try to play back your project from the beginning the audio will usually still mess up. So, what you're gonna have to do is go back on your edit window timeline right before these errors occur and play that specific clip back while recording this working audio with Soundflower and your audio software. Essentially we're only recording the parts of the audio where these errors occur, so try to do this in order if you can. Try to leave several seconds of audio in before the error - that way we can use it as reference when we construct our new audio track.
5.) Now in your audio software you should have your original error-filled audio track and the new clips that we just captured. This part can be painstaking if you're not familiar with audio editing softwares, but as you'll learn, it's really not that hard.
You're going to look at your original audio track and compare it to your new working audio clips. You should be able to notice where those new clips are supposed to go by looking at the identical (or close to identical) waveform shapes in your original audio track. The two should correspond with one another. If you don't understand what I mean right now, you will when you start playing around with the audio. This is why marking times is very important.
Take your new clips and split them up if you haven't already, that way you can drag them around and edit them separately from one another. Essentially your going to line these new clips up with original and then replace the original parts with new ones.
We need to get this as precise as possible, so start off by getting them as close as you can with your naked eye, and then use a zoom tool to zoom in as much as possible so that you can get them lined up PERFECTLY, or at least extremely close. In some softwares you can just drag these new clips on top of the old track, but most of the time you will need to actually cut out the old piece and replace it with the new one. In doing this, zoom in and make sure that you are NOT cutting out a bigger space than your new clip will fill - otherwise you will have small gaps in your audio.
VERY IMPORTANT: Also make sure that this new audio track starts at the EXACT SAME time as your original - otherwise your new audio will be out of sync.
I know this part can really suck if you're not used to audio editing, but at this point, there is little other choice.
6.) Once you are done with this, export your newly pieced together audio track.
7.) Now open iMovie and create a NEW project. Re-import the video that you exported earlier that has the messed up audio. This might take a while, so just be patient.
8.) Then right click the clip and select "Detach Audio". This will do just that - allowing you to edit the audio separately from the video. Now delete this audio.
9.) Now, import the new, perfect audio track that we just made and make sure that it starts at the start of the project. Make sure it's in sync and that everything works.
Now just export your new video with the working audio and you should be done. Since we have given iMovie the audio with no editing actually being done in iMovie, it does not have to generate its own audio now and you should have absolutely no errors now - unless there is some that you forgot to take out earlier.
    YOU'RE FINALLY DONE!!!
I know this entire process *****, but if you're that far into your project, there is little else that you can do. Now you've learned your lesson:
    DON'T USE IMOVIE EVER AGAIN.
    I hope this helped!

  • New iMovie - A few questions (fav/reject, timeline)

Have some questions on the new iMovie v 10:
    1.  Is the "new" clip wrapping "vertical" timeline view gone?  I actually liked this as opposed the the traditional horizontal timeline.  Now all I see is the traditional horizontal timeline.
    2.  The Favorite and Reject buttons appear to be gone.  I have to right-click and then select "favorite" or "reject" .  This has gone from one click to two...And I don't feel that I have gained this space in the UI.   Can I get fav and reject buttons back?

    1- View>Wrapping Timeline
2- Fav/Reject specific buttons are gone but can be accessed with a control click. Which will also show you the Keyboard Shortcuts for those options.

  • Extending the timeline in Photoshop CS6

In CS6, I cannot find the option to extend the duration of my photoshop document.  I am using Photoshop to make a short hand-drawn animated film.  Currently, the document is 300 frames long, but I would like to extend that to 400 frames.  Can anyone help, please? (I'm working in timeline mode, not frame mode.)
I could easily change the duration of a document in CS5 by clicking on the little drop-down menu in the top right corner of the animation panel, then going to "Document Settings" where I could change the duration and the frame rate.  When I click the drop-down in CS6, I find the frame rate option, but no duration.
It seems like this is a simple necessary option, and I hope I'm just missing something very obvious here.
Thank you for any help you can provide (including alternative workflows.)
    -Justin

    I agree.
But I dont think in general there is enough help or control in using timeline animation
For example on my site I run a monthly animation comp. And alot of my members are new to animating (Im by no means an expert lol) But as its Xmas its an ideal theme for animating.
We have a size limit for each animation of 5MB which as you all know isnt a big size animating.
So they set their timelines to say 3 seconds and do each of their relevent timelines. Some upto 6/7/8 seperate ones which for beginners is pretty good. But there end results are normally over size 1st time checking.
The problems occur when they want to alter the lenths of the timeline. Its easy enough to shorten the lenths of the whole timeline lenth thats not a problem BUT its when we try to alter the duration and speed of EACH timeline is where the problem lies.
We cant move the keyframes in a timeline all together so we have to drag each keyframe to another position and of course it mucks up the animation as they dont end up in the right places thus screwing up the sequenc
All we need is some sort of control to alter each timelines length and speed or to select all the keyframes on an individual timeline so we can move them all together. Because if we change the length of f the timeline now the keyframes stay where they are and dont move to compensate for the alteration..
The only other way is to remake it which is a bugga lol

  • Extending the timeline grid

Hi - I hope this is a very dumb question with a very simple solution, but I have looked and looked and I can't find an answer.
When I open a new Flash CS5 project, the timeline grid only goes out to 600 or so frames.  I have a three minute audio track that I want to insert at frame 1, and at 24 fps, that means it should end around frame 7200.  So what I want to do is to extend the grid out to 7200 frames - before I drag my audio clip in, or once I have it in.
If I set keyframes at 1 and 5, say, and drag my audio track in at frame 1, it appears that it will play all the way through using the controller, but my timeline grid is still only 600 frames long, and if the next thing I want to do is something that happens at frame 6000... I still can't get there.
I realize this may mean I have some total misconception about how the timeline / grid is supposed to work, and if that's the case, hopefully you can enlighten me... basically what I want to end up with is my 3 minute audio clip on the timeline, and the timeline grid extending out to the END of my audio clip so that I can start laying in images any time during the audio.  Last time I did this, I created a dummy layer, put in a keyframe at 600, which caused the grid to extned to 1200... repeat a dozen or so times to get to my desired length, then set start and end keyframes on my Audio channel, import my audio, and delete the dummy later.  Surely there has to be an easier way!
Thanks in advance... I really have been trying to find an answer to this for a while now, I must be using the wrong search terms...
    Charles

Okay, so that's really the deal - you scroll to frame 600, insert a blank frame, scroll to 1200, insert, scroll to 1800, insert... I was hoping there was something more like Modify - Timeline - Extend Timeline - (fill in box with "7200") - [OK].  Or at least after I do insert my audio, "Modify - Timeline - Extend Timeline to End of Last Object"  Seems like something people would want to do all the time, but, like I said, I guess I'm just thinking about building a flash file in a different way than flash developers think.
Once I'm at the highest existing frame on the grid (600 at the start), I can't get the grid to extend any more by pulling the mouse off to the right or tugging on the scroll bar... I assume that's how it's supposed to be.  So I'll just continue keep doing my dummy layer thing, using that to extend the grid and then getting rid of it once I have my audio layer set up.
And, yes, for what I'm doing, I'll want to stream so that when I do place visual objects, they'll stay in sync with the narration.  The tip on the different behavior if it's stream or sync is helpful.
Thanks for the quick response - was just hoping there was an easier way to do this, but I guess there isn't.

  • Re. imovie 9.0.4 Viewing a timeline in event browser?

How can I pinpoint specific cues in my event? That is, my event browser contains a 2hr long movie from which I want to pull out excerpts. So for example, how can I find the scene that begins at precisely 24 minutes 18 seconds. I am able to see a timeline on the project side, but not on the event side.

OK, so you have a single clip that is two hours long with no date metadata. Here is what I would suggest.
    1) Create a new folder within your iMovie Events folder. Give it a name and copy this clip into it.
    2) Change the name of this clip. If you know that date and time this clip was shot, you can use that. If not, today's date will do. Change the name of the clip to clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext
where: ext is the current file extension
hh is hours in 24 hour time.
If you want to see the actual clock time, e.g. 3:34PM, then use the time it was shot. If you just want to see the time as an offset from zero, use clip-yyyy-mm-dd 00;00;00.ext
    3) Restart iMovie and let it generate thumbnails for this new event.
    4) Now you can skim and see the time after clicking VIEW/PLAYHEAD INFO.

  • Copies of repeater are not extending (3D timeline animation steps)

Trying to make a 3D timeline animation by following this tutorial video: After Effects Video Tutorial: 3D Timeline Animation on Vimeo.
But faced a very beginning problem: when I made the copies of the rectangles, they do not extend as they should have (The blue indicator stays on the first one, please see the first image). Unlike the video which he has the blue indicator extending all the way (please see the second image).  I think this affects how every composition connects to each other later. (Please see the 3rd image compared to the 4th image from the video).
I will very appreciate if somebody could help me out with this. Thank you!

I see nothing wrong in your pictures. The bounding box display depends on what property/ item/ shape group is selected and there is a difference between certain procedural items vs. normal shape paths. A bit confusing, but you'll get the hang of it.
