IMovie 5.0.2 Cannot See Canon DV Camera

Running iMovie HD 5.0.2. Previous version of iMovie 4 worked fine with my Canon ZR300 DV camera. Now, iMovie says no camera attached. Connected vi USB.
Have tried every combination of powering on and plugging. in.
Thoughts anybody?

...So it would seem that Apple sold me a camera that doe snot work with iMiovie (as it does not have a firewire port)...
Canon sold you a camera without the right cable
you nee a 4pin/6pin firewire cable, at any electronic supply, ~2$

  • Cannot see Wireless IP Camera via WAN

    Router:WRT54GC
    IP Camera: Chinese EBAY special
I have a Wireless IP Camera connected to the router.  Everything works fine on the LAN.
I can connect from within the LAN using the Camera IP (&port) and the external router IP(&port).
I cannot see it outside the LAN though.
I have forwarded the correct port for the IP of the Camera and confirmed the port is open on the net. (Have tried static and automatically obtained)
I can ping the Routers external IP from the WAN but cannot see the Camera.
Have read every thread on here.
    This one was helpful:
    http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/WRT160N-v2-with-IP-camera-BLC131-CE/m-p/300838#M1...
I couldn't ping the router until I disabled "Block anonymous internet requests" but can now.
Although putting the router ip in a browser doesn't give me remote management (if it should?)
    Any ideas?

    HI,
My ISP is Virgin Media (I'm in the UK)
My WAN IP is 92.236.14.192 - I can ping that from outwith the LAN.  I can also use remote management using it with por t8080 so connectivity is ok.
I've forwarded port 1025 for the Cameras IP - port 80 is already in there forwarded with the routers IP, this must be a default one?
I'll change that and see if it helps.
port 1025 is open, I checked with the "canyouseeme" site.
    thanks for your help!

  • Why I cannot see my IP-Cam on the iPad2?

    Hi there,
I am writing from Germany - hope you can understand my terrible English.
I installed an IP-Cam, but I cannot see them in my iPad2.
You can see the cam here
    http://kieckbusch.dyndns.org/index.htm
A friend of mine has a iPad3 and has no problems to see the cam.
What I have to do to see the picture of the cam?
    Thank you in advanced,
    Wolfgang

    No advanced..
The WD will pickup an ip from the router.. sadly apple routers give you no info about IP of the device they pickup on ethernet.
Go to your computer .. open the network utility, and do a netstat scan .. the IP of the WD should be listed.
You can also use an iOS utility like Fing.. which does the same kind of thing.. scans the network for all the clients you have connected.
Once you determine its IP you can mount it in the computer..
But it should be accessible also by simply typing the IP or name into a browser.. did you read the instructions for setting up WD NAS in your network.

  • Cannot see  Canon MP620 installed printer and Canon IJ Network

I try to install my new printer Canon MP620 on my iMac G5 (10.4.11).
The installation procedure seems ok according the documentation.
When I want to use the printer the "Canon IJ Network" is not available. This option should be present when I click on "More Printers" in the "Printer Browser" (others protocol like AppleTalk are listed).
The Canon MP620 driver is not visible in the driver list.
The printer can be use by other computers (XP, Vista) and is available on my LAN . I can see the printer with the "Canon Network tool" and the network scan function works fine.
I reinstalled, download the last version from Canon web site, repaired authorizations, ... without success.
Any idea and help are welcomed !

The printer is connected with a RJ45 cable 100 MBytes. I can ping it from the mac, the http service of the printer is reachable ... thus I guess this is not a network problem.

  • Firewire won't see canon dv camera

I just got a Canon firewire dv camera. On my G4 ibook it connects to iMovie and imports flawlessly.
When I connect it to my G5 which I prefer to use for video, it says "no camera connected", and the system profiler says "unknown device" connected to the firewire port.
What can I do to get the G5 to see the camera? I tried all the "help" suggestions to no avail.
    Thanks,
    Jinny

AHHH thankyou, after spending 3 hours on the phone with Canon, Apple and the hard drive manufacture i was at the end of the line - finnally someone understand this issue.
For two years i used Canon Camcorder zr85 with no problems,
including the use of a Firewire drive at the same time.
In the past year there were various systems updates.
In the past week another firewire drive was added. So thats 2 drives, one Canon.
A week later, after sucessfully using both drives with Canon,
loading at least 2 hours of video in, the next time i go to use it
turning on the camera puts the icon in a spin looking and looking
So i turn off the camera and the icon goes back to an arrow.
    simply, no camera connection.
On person said that installing another internal Firewire port (100.00)
would allow the camera (firewire) to not conflict with the drives
Anyone actually done this with success???
Anyone tried something else that worked?

  • I cannot see my DV camera connected to firewire on my iMac.

I use parallell desktop and Win. XP with Movie Edit Pro. No DV camera is seen in iMovie either when I do not use parallell desktop. The only camera that is shown is the built in webcamera. I use a standard Mac firewire cable, Camera is an older Sony DV camera, DV cassette based. The only reason why I chose a mac is to connect a DV camera and edit video. FCP from Apple is too expensive, and I know Movie Edit Pro from Magix inside out, a superb video editing program. Can anyone help asap, pls.?
    <Edited by Host>

I may add this: Brand new iMac, 8Gb RAM, 2,5 Ghz i5 processor with Lion updated OS as of 31st Oct. 2011, using Parallel Desktop bought 16th Oct. 2011, running Windows XP with service pack 2. No camera except built-in webcam shows up in any software, neither using Mac OS or Win. XP.

  • Cannot see video in iMovie

This is my first time ever using iMovie so I'm hoping this is super easy. I'm using iMovie 11 in Lion. Ok so I imported an .mp4 video to iMovie and can play audio but I can't see any video. I just want to cut about 3 small clips from a big 20 minute video and put them together. I thought it would be simple, but how do I get the video to show up?

iMovie: Cannot see or control camera

If your analog video device does not support device control, turn off device control. To do this, choose Preferences from the Edit menu, click the Device Control tab, then make sure the checkbox next to Enable Device Control doesn't have a checkmark in it.

  • Latest version iMovie: cannot see clips in project OR event browser, but they are there in both libraries! So cannot create/edit/publish ANYTHING.

HI All. I have been having a HECK of a time with iMovie 11!!!  Converted a bunch of video to .mov format, imported into iMovie, and created a project. No problem. Finalized, and published to iTunes, no problem. Saves extra copies. No Problem. SO ... I want to create another project, and follow the instructions RELIGIOUSLY. I can import the video files into the event library, and can drag them into a newly created project, but I CANNOT see the clips in the browser pane for events or library! When I click the playhead in either the event library or the project library (where the clips are edited - supposedly), they play (ie, i hear the audio just fine) ... but NO real-time playback.  ALSO - the video no longer plays for the already completed project when I click the playhead - same deal - not in the project browser, not in the event browser. The playhead runs, but as it moves from thumbnail to thumbnail, each one goes black, and no video plays in real time in the other pane. I closed out of iMovie, did a restart, repaired permissions. No change. I get no error messages, and can find no way to 'reassociate' a project with a set of clips (like one can do in software like Illustrator etc).HELP!!!

I've spent 3 hours in Apple Covent Garden trying to have this fixed. Most of those were spent doing something to content in iPhoto. It didn't work. Then I left them my computer to reinstall software (Snow Leopard and iMovie) which they said they could do better than me and my discs. But I got back a computer with a new user profile and no files. When I used Time Machine to restore my files to my old profile the problem was just as before except now I've lost a week worth of photos, despite the Time Machine file having been saved just hours before I gave my Mac to the muppets in the Apple store.
If it's any clue, the other I get is that iMovie searches for four missing movie files when it tries to load. I've tried solving this by creating new files and changing the names to match the ones that are missing (as I read elsewhere in the community works) but it doesn't work.
So I've wasted hours, a day of Apple having my computer and no one replies to my thread here. What's to be done? Do I give up on iMovie and buy Final Cut pro? And how can I get my week's worth of photos back that have disappeared from TimeMachine, even though everything else in the restoration (e.g. mail and Firefox windows) are completely up to date?

  • IMovie cannot see projects and events on Synology NAS

I am using their 3.1 firmware. Which I believe is the latest.
And I have the latest Lion OS on my MB Pro.
I realized today that iMovie does not see the hard drive the way it used to in Snow Leopard.
I have read other threads here where people were using ReadyNAS and everything started working after Lion OS upgrade.
But that is not the case for me.
Anybody any ideas as to what to do?
    Thanks!

    I am using:
    - Synology NAS with DSM 4.0,
    - iMove '11
    - Lion OS 10.7.3
iMovie cannot see my library on the NAS either.

  • HG 10 Canon Video Camera...Cannot Get iMovie 8 to Recognize Camera

I just got a HG 10 Canon Video camera. I took it out of the box, hooked up the USB cable and iMovie doesn't want to recognize it. It almost did once, but then it was lost. Any tips? I've seemingly tried everything.

  • IMovie won't see Canon GL2

I have a Canon GL2 Camcorder and iMovie 08 I’m using a firewire cable for the download, the port is good it is the port I use for the external drive. The problem is iMovie doesn’t see the camera. I’m following all the steps with the camera. Can anyone help.

    Hi
There are two ports minimum. Mac and Camera. Blown A/D-chip in Camera not to rare.
    My list on this.
    *NO CAMERA or A/D-box*
    Cable
    • Are You sure that You are using the FireWire Cable - USB-Cable will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin (or 9-pin) FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable *very often the problem maker*.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toogle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
    • Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
    A/D-box
    • Is the dip-switches set right ?
    • Set to same standard as recorded/editing eg NTSC 29.97fps or PAL 25fps
    • Try resetting it
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    • FireWire-port - Can be re-setted by - Turn off Mac and disconnecting Mac from Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minmum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited.
    • Does Your Mac have a FireWire Port
    • White MacBooks - don't
    • MacBook-Air - don't
if not then a few Mac’s has a PCM-CIA slot and there are FW-Cards that makes a FW-port this way
    else - NO SOLUTION
Only option as I get it is either
    • Use another Mac to Capture material (to an external USB2 - Mac OS Extended formatted hard disk - or -
    • Change to another Camera that can be used with Your Mac (no there are no miniDV tape Cameras that can)
    • If Your Mac-Book has a PCM-CIA Card place - then there are FW-port-Cards and then
You can import via this - but I've not seen this on more modern Macs. My PowerBook G4
has one and this FW-Card-port works greatly.
    SoftWare
    • Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
    • Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    • Screen Saver - OFF
    • Energy Saver - OFF
    Using WHAT versions ? .
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
*Other ways to import Your miniDV tape*
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Extended formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

in addition to Bengt's excellent '9 yards of advice' ..
camera set to 'Play' , not rec/computer/etc.?
camera not on battery, but power-line?
did your Mac 'recognize' this camera before...?
    a technical check.
    connect camera, on, playback, fw-connected...
click on the Blue Apple, upper left of your screen ..
    choose 'About../More..
under Firewire.. what do you read..?

If so it has to be Mac OS Extended formatted

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.
    *No Camera or bad import*

The problem was the external backup hard drive that is connected, you need to disconect the external drive before the mac can see the video camera.

Maybe your problems is solved in the meantime, but for all others this might help as I had the same problem, also have the Sony HDR-HC7, but the 7e (Europe, PAL). I found this link today and it works perfectly
    //support.sony-europe.com/tutorials/dime/videotransfer/vtransfer.aspx site=odwenGB&sec=DVH&m=HDR-HC7E
What I exactly did.- put camera in play mode - open guide - choose connection guide - choose comp./printer (where to transfer movie to) - select connection.- i-link (on my camera) but equal to firewire - OK - choose HDV - choose NO for conversion of i.link.
Settings are shown then (VCR HDV/DV.- HDV and i.link-conv..- OFF), press OK, OK, END.
Switch camera off. Connect firewire cable to camera & Mac. Switch camera on, in play/edit mode.
Open i-movie, choose import from camera. On screen below the camera connection is shown.- DV (HDV). Now you can import, automatically or manually.
This worked perfectly for me. Took me 2 days to find out. Could not find any clear thread explaining what I had to do on the camera and the manual was not clear either.

  • ImovieHD 6.03  does not see popular Canon GL2  cam but earlier imovie does

I have found that my Canon GL2 camcorder is not recognized and will not import into iMovie HD. I changed the setting to standard definition, 640 x 480, but it does not work. It works with earlier versions of iMovie. The Canon GL2 cam is a popular cam so I do not understand what is wrong. I have checked the pulldown menu by the camera on the control screen but the only cam it "sees" is the the isight so I can not switch it to the GL2. I have a lot of old movies I want to digitize and I would prefer to do it on my new mac rather than my old mac.
