IMovie 6.0.3 does not recognize built in iSight Camera on new iMac
New iMac, Intel, OS 10.5.4, QT 7.5.
Built in Camera works with Photo Booth, the new iMovie 7.1.3 and iChat.
iMovie HD 6.0.3 or 6.0.4 does not recognize the camera. Opening a new project results in a No Camera Connected error. I have tried selecting various options in the video format drop down when creating a new project. I have repaired permissions, tried it under various users, removed the imovie plist, reinstalled imovie (both 6.0.3 and 6.0.4) without success. All 10 of the new computers are exhibiting this problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
That is not an option that I can select on the imac's. On my iBook under 10.5.4 with iMovie HD 6.0.3 or 6.0.4 I can click on the triangle next to the camera icon and select the built in iSight camera. On the new iMacs that does not work. The built in iSight is not listed as an option.

MacBook pro does not recognize built in iSight cam even after restart/ reset
After years of using Sony hdr500 video cam, iMovie stopped recognizing it and then stopped recognizing the built in iSight cam as well. Now photo booth does not see it either. I have restarted the computer to reset SMC and that did not resolve the problem. I would appreciate any help offered. Thanks JJMANN

If your issue persists, try these steps:
Shut down the computer.
Disconnect all devices and cables except the keyboard and mouse cable(s).
Disconnect the computer from the power outlet and wait for 3 to 5 minutes.
Plug the computer back in and turn it on.
Reconnect the device(s) (one at a time if there is more than one) and test. Test with each port if you have more than one.
With all you have already done, if no USB devices are recognized or work on your Mac after you have also considered all the above, you likely have a hardware problem. Contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

Can you adjust the tint on the built-in isight camera on an iMac? It is curently too red on my iMac.
The iSight has no mechanical parts. The iSight will adjust to the light by changing the sensitivity of the sensor's receptors. It is possible to manipulate the picture with software routines and simulate slow shutter speed. For photography look [here|http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/overview>.

Premiere Pro CS6 does not recognize the USB PnP Sound device in order to produce a commentary sound track. The USB device has been activated on the iMac OSX by using the Audio-MIDI-setup and is working correctly with the iMac. When opening > presets >audio hardware I can only select between >standard >out integrated > digital input integrated >microphone integrated. USB PnP is not indicated at this place.
With the built-in microphone of the iMac I can produce the commentary sound track, but I would prefer a stand alone version for better quality.
Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Annemarie!I'm using a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 (which has a microphone on the side). I have several other devices plugged into separate USB slots: a keyboard, a mouse, my iPhone, and a Roland keyboard midi controller.
I've considered that maybe the webcam/mic combo is the culprit. If USB doesn't work at a constant speed, that could very well be causing the issue! The sound begins to lag badly sometimes when it's working properly, so that there's a multisecond delay between speaking and hearing my voice repeated back over the mic which is another sign that something is wrong. I've also caught it making a strange electronic sound during its "hang" time once it stops taking sound input correctly.
Maybe I should try to use line-in and forgo USB altogether then. I think I'd need a preamp and some sort of converter for that since the Mac Mini lacks a powered mic jack. I'm only a newbie musician so I've never set up such a system but it might be a better solution in the long run.
I'll check to see if it hangs before or after my computer enters suspend mode, that's a good suggestion too. Thank you for your help! -
IMovie 11 does not recognize my JVC mini cam
Is there any solution to this? My JVC mini cam connects and works on my old iMac that has iMovie 6, but my newer iMac (10.10.1) with iMovie 11 (10.0.6) won't recognize the camera at all. Firewire 800 port to firewire 400 port to cable to JVC GR-D350U. Help says iMovie 11 works with most JVC tape-based cameras.
The interface with DV cameras is very flaky. Too much intervening hardware may not work. However, I would assume iMovie could at least see the camera.
However, if it is an Unknown device, it isn't getting passed to iMovie as a camera. Try bypassing the Hub and see if it at least identifies.
I was testing an old Canon DV camcorder to see if I had a problem. I did, but I think it is related to the cabling. I had a 4-pin to 6-pin cable going into an old, portable hard drive, then to a FW400 to FW800 cable, through my daisy-chain of FW800 drives. I got no video, but the controls worked (play, pause, etc.). I then connected directly to the Mac Mini, bypassing the hard drive daisy-chain, but still no video. I'm pretty sure the no-video is a cable problem, so I ordered a 4-pin to FW800. -
FCE V4 does not recognize Panasonic SDR-H20 Camera connected via USB
I've just got FCE V4 and connected it to my imac and started using FCE V4. FCE says it cant locate my video camera 'Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480)'. I chose DV-NTSC in the Easy Setup because that was the default and I don't know what else to choose. I don't have a firewire cable, just the USB. The camera is recognized okay by iMovie. Does anyone know whether I need to:
1. Get a firewire cable and connect that to the camcorder and imac
2. Choose something other than DV-NTSC in 'Easy Setup'
or if this camera SDR-H20 Video Camera does not work with FCE?

PegThis camera will not work directly with FCE.
FCE needs TAPE cameras shooting DV or HDV.
The only other types of cameras that will work are those shooting AVCHD (High Definition).
You will have to download the video files and convert them to DV with something like MPEG Streamclip:-

SO, a genius at my store told me there are some bugs to work through with SONy cameras and Apple. But I needed the sony camera because of how good they are in lowlight, among other features. Does anyone have trouble with Final Cut and there SONY cameras?? Is there a better video editing software??

Elements 7 does not recognize photos on my camera
I just downloaded the trial version of Elements and did the update. When I try to load KDC files from my Kodak Z980 camera Elements tells me that there is nothing on my camera. I'm having trouble finding any software that recognizes my photos from this camera and the Kodak website recommended this software.
You need to download and install the latest version of the Adobe Camera Raw plugin (ACR 5.4):

Return/Enter key does not work in Safari/ Set up of new imac
Setting up addresses when I type an address in the url window, or like now to return to the next line, the return/ enter key is not functioning? Any help would be much appreciated. thanks John

Try shutting down the iMac. Disconnect the keyboard. Wait about 5 minutes. Reconnect the keyboard and restart the iMac. See if the Return key works now.
If not, since it's so new, take the keyboard back for a replacement.

Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Bridge does not recognize the raw files from my new Canon Mark III 5D Camera. How can I get my files open to view and edit? I am using LR3, Photoshop CS3 and Bridge CS3. Do I need to upgrade these programs or is there another way to get these programs to recognize my files?
When I try opening the raw images in Lightroom, the thumbnails say "Preview unavailable for this file" ... when I click "import" an error message pops up that says "The files are from a camera which is not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom."
When I try opening the raw images in Photoshop, an error message pops up saying "could not complete your request because photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
When I try opening the raw images in Bridge, it just shows an icon with the file name and CR2.
Please help!!!Unless I missed an announcement, today, LR6 isn't available, yet, right? Only Adobe employees and beta testers would know what LR6 does differently at this point and they're all sworn to secrecy.
LR5 is available as a standalone version.
PS-CS6 is available as a serial-number-licensed version.
PS-CC + LR5 are also available as a Photography Plan subscription for $10/month with a minimum OS versions of OSX 10.7 (and probably 10.8, soon) and Windows 7.
Bridge is part of PS, not a separate program.

My macbook does not recognize Canon SD1000. Camera goes to transfer mode and it looks like the problem is the computer. Finder do not show the camera at all. (I am not using any programs, iphoto etc...).
Instead GarageBand recognize my keyboard and i can play normally, also, if it can help, those are the Audio and Midi Logic Preferences and the Controller Surfaces Setup with the keyboard connected :

Hello and thanks for reading. I know this topic is like beating a dead horse but this one is unique. I'm a professional editor and I couldn't figure this out so any help would be appreciated. Here's the play by play:
I edit using FCP 5.1.4 and have for years. I've had the same set up running for years and do high volume editing.
I have a chain of 4 Lacie drives, all connected by firewire.
At the end of that string, I have my tape player for capturing footage, a Sony GV-HD700, which then goes on to the TVs, DVD players, etc.
Also the end of that string, I also have a disc burner for making DVDs.
So it goes: iMac > Lacie #1 > Lacie #2 > Lacie #3 > Lacie #4 > Sony tape player & DVD burner > TVs, VCRs, etc.
Yesterday, I was in a rush and the DVD burner was going slow so I unplugged it from the end of the string of Lacie drives and plugged it directly into the back of the computer to see if it would burn faster.
It didn't, so I plugged it back into the end of the Lacie string.
At that point, Lacie #4 became unrecognizable to the computer and therefore so was the tape player, which is further down the chain.
When I plugged the tape player high up the chain, into Lacie #3, it still was not recognized.
I plugged the tape player (Sony GV-HD700) directly into the back of the computer...still not recognized.
I took the Sony GV-HD700 into our other editing bay and it was still not recognized.
I pulled out my camera (Sony HDR-FX1000) and plugged it directly into the back of the original computer...recognized just fine.
I plugged Sony HDR-FX1000 camera into the back of Lacie #2...recognized just fine.
I took the Sony HDR-FX1000 camera into our other editing bay...recognized just fine.
I have a big deadline so I said "Screw it." and was just going to capture from the camera for the time being.
I reset the Lacie drive chain, plugged the Camera into the back of Lacie #4 (just like the original setup) and BANG: Lacie #4 and the Sony HDR-FX1000 camera was not recognized.
I plugged the Sony HDR-FX1000 camera directly into the back of the computer...still not recognized.
I took the Sony HDR-FX1000 camera into our other editing bay...still not recognized.
I thought it might be a Final Cut Pro issue so I pulled up iMovie and it does not recognize any device connected to the computer even though I'm looking directly at it plugged in.
The entire iMac has lost the ability to recognize devices that I've used for years. I've now lost the ability to capture footage and I'm running out of time. It's almost as if the devices were getting infected by one of the Lacie drives (I think Lacie #4). Is that even possible? Has anyone ever heard of something like this? I don't know if it's something I need to change on the iMac to recognize them again, or if it's a setting on the device to reset the connection, or if somehow the Lacie drive corrupted the devices and made them unrecognizable to iMacs.
It's very, very weird.

I took video using my Iphone 4S and uploaded it into my Macbookpro iphoto. When I open imovie it does not recognize the video when I import it manually it is distorted.
Did you ever get an answer to this? I just experienced the distortion when I imported a video from my iPhone 4 to iPhoto.

Imovie 4 does not recognize my Sony Handycam DCR-TRV310 so I can't import.
I have used this camera before with out problems but must have been imovie 2.
The program does not recognize the camara. I have unpluged and plugged and restarted and done everything that I have read to do but still nothing. helpI have gone through the steps of this article. I am connected by firewire. I have disconected, recontected, turn on and off and restarted and nothing. I have made sure the date and time are correct. I did upload this tape from at old VHS tape of family pictures. This handycam wasn't a problem with older imovie versions and older systems 9. When I go to the sony site they only talk about connecting to a pc. When I go to apple profiler and fire wire is just says "
Fire Wire bus: Max speeed up to 400 Mb/sec" It does not recognize the camara. The only thing that I have not done is go buy a new firewire cord but I am worried that imovie can't recongnize the camara. Thanks for the help
