IMovie 6.0.3 drops jpg resolution

When moving jpg stills from Photos panel to the timeline, they get limited to 117 KB. In fact some 1- 2 MB jpegs were dropped to 117kB as I brought them to the Photos panel. How was that done? Can I keep a higher image quality?
Then if I change duration or Ken Burns on a still picture in the timeline, the image resolution gets very blurry. It seems to happen with my pressing of the 'Update' button in the Show Photo Settings window. The size stays at 117kB. How can I adjust duration or do a KBurns and keep decent image resolution?
In general, do I have any control over these image resolutions in iMovie 6.0.3?

Your question concerns iMovie 6. This is a iMovie '09 forum (iMovie 8). Please post your question again in the iMovie HD 6 forum.
Good luck

  • How to improve JPG Resolution in FCP importing from PowerPoint?

Hi.  I've successfully saved my PowerPoint presentation as a folder full of JPG files and imported that folder into Final Cut Pro.  But when I drop these jpg's into the timeline and export the project to .mov, the result is pixelated images, low-quality text and terrible looking photographs embedded into the PowerPoint slides that looked good in PowerPoint.
At what point do I adjust the resolution?  Where and how do I do that?

    Dear Nick Holmes,
Thanks for your highly technical explanations!
May I trouble you for further detail?
    > DV is a highly compressed codec. Work in a ProRes timeline instead.
"DV"?  Digital video?  How do I "work in a ProRes timeline"?  Is that a setting in FCP?
    >Dpi is a print concept, it means nothing in video. In the NTSC TV format, you only ever have 720x480 pixels, regardless of screen size.
Very good to know and understand.
    >Set your Field Dominance to None.
Please tell me where to find this function.
    >Fully render the Sequence.
Don't judge quality based on what you see in the Canvas -it's a low res proxy used to show the flow of your story.
I'm looking at the exported .mov in Quicktime.
    >Your export codec will be determined by the playback mechanism. A DVD is highly compressed. If you can playback from your computer it can stay in ProRes.
Should I dig around for an LCD projector adaptor that undoubtedly came with my MacBook Pro?  Or is that something I'll have to purchase?
    >You might consider rebuilding the slides to better suit video playback -avoid small Serif typfaces, for example.
Rebuild them in PowerPoint, you mean?

  • How do I create a photo in jpg or other photo format from a frame within iMovie11.  The suggestion I have found from earlier versions of iMovie does not create a jpg file that can be revealed in Finder. Help please.

How do I create a photo in jpg or other photo format from a frame in iMovie. The previous suggestions on here do not create a jpg file when you chose reveal in finder when using iMovie11 and OS X

First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
    Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
You can then drag this photo into iPhoto.
Here is a video I made that steps through this...

  • Batch change jpg resolution in Photoshop Elements!

    Hello,
I have a group of photos that I have to resize (pixels and resolution) properly. The requirement is ridiculous.
Per Microsoft Office 365 (profile picture sync from our servers)
    100x100 pixels
10 kb in size (yes, that is 10 as in ten)
Anything above those parameters wont sync
100x100 pixels was an easy batch conversion process using Photoshop Essentials
Brought my photo sizes between 40-60kb
I was also able to reduce the resolution to 72 dpi, which got me down to about 20-25kb per photo
I can manually adjust the resolution down to 50 dpi and that gets me just under 10kb, but I cant find a way to do it in batch.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

You can run the image processor File>Scripts>Image Processor
However, I believe that the IP will function same as a Save As, where you set the JPG quality on a scale of 1 -12, unlike the 1 - 100 in Save for Web.  But you could play around with Save As until you found the quality number between 1 - 12 that got the output you wanted, and then run all images through the IP.  Make sure to click "Convert profile to sRGB".
Otherwise, you could make an action that runs a single photo through Save for Web with the resizing and quality you want.  Then you run the Image Processor, and at the bottom you can choose to run your action.

  • CS3 - CS4: JPG resolution

    Hi,
I'm a developer using Apache FOP to create PDFs. We are using JPGs (CMYK) with a resolution of 300dpi (had some problems with tiff, so we're on jpg).
Here's the problem I'm in now:
Creating the JPG files with PS CS3 works fine. Now we changed to CS4 and the graphic library, used by FOP, is unable to retrieve the resolution from the JPG, reading 96dpi instead of 300dpi.
What is the difference in saving JPGs in CS3 and CS4 (maybe something with the metadata)?
How can I assure the JPGs saved by CS4 are compatible with some older or simpler graphic stuff like the apache-graphic library?
    THX,
    Chrise
PS: Same problem on Mac and Windows.

    Thanks for your repley.
using the plain "save as" on both versions with exactly the same parameters.
Reopening says 300ppi on CS3 and CS4 with both files but opening with e.g. IrfanView shows 300ppi for the CS3 JPG and "empty" for the CS4 JPG.
And now, saving the CS4 file with CS3 (nothing changed, just saved) and the 300ppi are set right for IrfanView and mainly my FO-Processor.
Maybe has somthing to do with the metadata (XMP), I havn't read the JPG specification yet (not amused to do this )

  • JPG resolution and quality

    Dear Indesign scripters,
I'm having a very old script what I made for CS2 and still using for CS5.
Now I'm having trouble to give it the option to choose the resolution in a dialog box.
Know I'm typing the resolution manually in the script but I’m wondering if there is a way to do it with a dialog box.
    var myDoc = app.documents[0];

  • Again Problem Whit Jpg resolution....

When im tray to input some jpg ...... resolution about 1200x720   ............that resolution  doesnt  work..... adn my resolution after import is 245x100  ...
Im dont know what is problem please sedn me some tutorial for Youtube or some forum ...... or you can fix my problem here ...
Downloading file of jpg image is 1200x720
when im import that resolution ...change in 280x100.....

    The image you posted is
The same image size is reported in Photoshop... This has nothing do do with After Effects and everything to do with the image you are trying to import.
Where did you get the image? It looks like it was a download from a thumbnail, probably on the Video Copilot site. That is your problem. You have to find an image that is big enough to fill up your comp window... Simple as that.
If you go to Video Copilot you can watch the tutorial and download the project file. Inside the project file you'll find both images used in the tutorial. They are the right size.

  • IMovie to iDVD quality drop

Hi. I've read a number of threads about this and just thought to share my experience, and ask if anyone had any bright ideas to improve things.
My footage is of an outdoor concert, shot pretty well on Sony DVCAM with an audio feed from the desk. The 4 hours of footage imported like a dream into iMovie HD. I stripped off the sound track, made some EQ and dynamics improvements and layed it back - perfectly in sync - a miracle!
So I have a finished item, easily produced, looks and sounds great, but using over 50Gb of disk space. So I split it in two and burn best quality to iDVD. I make a further edit of 50 mins. and burn that as a separate iDVD project. To my surprise the conversions, chapter markers, animations etc all work flawlessly.
The problem is end quality on DVD. The picture is terribly pixelated (especially over any transitions e.g. dissolves) and the audio is wrecked. The drums pump as though compressed with everything on 11.
Okay - the file size (for the 50 min cut) has gone from 17Gb in iMovie to 3.5Gb in iDVD and that represents a load of lost (or heavily compressed) information, but the end result is a real dissapointment on disk.
So for now I have 'shared' (terrible term) from iMovie back to regular DV tape until such times as better disk conversions or maybe Bluray provide a solution.
In these forums, many respondants have asked 'what do you expect from a low-cost application?' - which sounds fair - except that it seems to me that this final step in the production chain is a really surprisingly weak link.
iMovie is terrific, the iDVD interface is brilliant - things that we expect Apple to do well, and they do - but all this is wasted if customers are habitually disappointed by the end result, and from reading these forums, they are.
    G5 2x2GHz 2HD   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Using my e-mac 1.25 / panther / imovie 5,the results I get from DVD's burned on this machine are excellent, not only I, but others remark on how sharp and clear the end product is.Generally speaking ,I was so pleased with the e-mac
that after a year passed continually feeding in six hours of DV and burning
three DVD's of just under two hours most weekends,I purchased an imac 2.g / 20" / tiger / ilife 6. thinking it will be a faster ,and better (a year is a long time in computer hardware and software)machine .
    Well ! ....
how wrong could I be ! in addition to the heavy pixillating/blocking on the finished DVD's I had to contend with constant freezing ,crashing and sudden quitting of applications for no apparent reason.Lots of wasted time and effort
not to mention coasters ( things that just did not happen with the e-mac )
It got so that every time I used the i-mac I crossed my fingers !
Eventually,I Started from scratch and restored with panther and ilife5 and
generally speaking it's a far better machine to work with, certainly the pixilating/blocking has gone and the results are ok ,I can at least use the i-mac with some confidence,,perhaps I was just unlucky with ilife 6 but it won't be installed again !
So Iain, I don't know if you want to go down that road,it is only a suggestion
but for this machine, it worked ! ( fingers crossed ! )
    Good luck

  • IMovie 9.0.4 drops audio while scrubbing events.

On startup of iMovie 9.0.4 scrubbing events has audio. After placing a clip into a project the audio during scrubbing events quits but is still on when scrubbing in the project. This is repeatable. Restarting iMovie restores audio scrubbing in events. It quits after placing a clip in projects. How do I report this bug.

Just a quick followup using 2 different MacBook Pros...
Imported into iMovie 9.0.4, the video duration is 1:04:14:06 total.  (Mac OS 10.6.8)
Imported into iMovie 9.0.2, the video duration is 1:04:15:06 total.  (Mac OS 10.6.7)
So, with the newer iMovie version, my video imported from the same Digital 8 tape is 1 second shorter.  This is consistent with being a second shorter than the same live audio using my Zoom H2.

  • Resolution is iMovie is always better than any other exported version

    Hi folks -
I've used iMovie to make a few montages (photos/music/some video). When I watch the "movie" on iMovie it looks great - crisp, high resolution. But when I choose any format to compress it to, even the highest resolution, it is automatically degraded. Is there any way I can save the final cut in a resolution that won't lose image quality? Right now I've been keeping the iMovie working file on my hard drive (taking up a ridiculous amount of space) because it's the best way to watch it.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

even the highest resolution, it is automatically degraded
No. Exporting from iMovie 6.0.3/4 (other versions like iMovie 4.0.1 may behave differently...) via File > Export > QuickTime > Full Quality preserves all quality of a iMovie DV project.
I archive my edited iMovie clips as <9 min 30 sec clips exported this way as .dv files.
Exporting to tape also preserves all quality but then you may get some dropped frames...
...by default QuickTime Player has low quality deinterlaced playback of DV-encoded clips -- you have to turn on high quality playback of the clip to see all quality. In QT 7 you do this via enabling "Window/Show Movie Properties/Video Track/Visual Settings/High Quality" setting -- do not enable "Single Field" or "Deinterlace" because they deinterlace playback. You can also set "QuickTime Player 7/Preferences.../General/Use high quality video setting when available" to check the "High Quality" box by default (notice that the "Single Field" or "Deinterlace" boxes may have been saved to the file so sometimes you must take care to uncheck them).

  • Low quality of burned DVD even if I drag&drop iMovie project into iDVD

    Hi all,
I've a iMovie HD project that I want to burn via iDVD (7.0.4).
If I click "Share with iDVD" the quality of the resultung video (which is burned to DVD) is rather poor. As I've read within this discussions, the preferred way is to close iMovie and "drag and drop" the iMovie project into iDVD.
With this way, iDVD (instead of iMovie) will render the movie, which should give a video with far more quality.
Unfortunately, the burned DVD with the "drag and drop" method has the same low quality as the video with "Share with iDVD".
I've done a little research and noticed that the "shared movie" for iDVD (iMovie project->Show package Contents->Shared Movies->iDVD) for a 1:10 video has a filesize of only 32kb!
Is there any way to set the "export" parameters for this "shared movie" (it is a quicktime file)?
The quality of the completed DVD is acceptable if I export the iMovie project to "DV stream" an import this stream into iDVD. But in this case I lose all my chapter markers of the movie ..
Is there any way to export the movie from iMovie HD and keep all the chapter markers for iDVD?
Importing the iMovie HD project into iMovie 08/09 is not an option, as I lose the chapter markers also ..
    Thanks in advice,
    Kind regards.

    Hi,
the iMovie project was created as "DV" project and I imported DV PAL clips. The iDVD preferences are also PAL (25fps) and the quality setting is "professional quality".
I've also tried the setting "best performance" within iDVD (as suggested within this forum), but with the same poor result.
I can see within the iDVD "project info" that iDVD will use "mymovie.mov" within the "Shared Movies->iDVD" of the iMovie project (Show package contents).
As this converted movie is of low quality, I think this is the root of evil.
If I export the movie from iMovie with "Export as DV stream" and import this converted movie into iDVD the quality is ok - but I lose the chapter markers ..
Is there any way to keep the chapter markers?
    Kind regards.

  • Loss of quality of photos when importing from iphoto to imovie

A question... When I import high resolution photos from iphoto and look at the preview on imovie HD, the quality is the same great quality that I can see on iphoto. Once I import the photo clip onto imovie, however, the quality is very poor on the imovie playback. This drop in quality is regardless of whether Ken Burns effect is used or not.
I already checked the quality on imovie preferences and it is already selected as the highest quality (default setting)
Any clues as to why the photo image quality should drop to such a poor image when importing a photo from iphoto to imovie?

    Hi L
There are a great difference on photos shown on a Mac with eg. iPhoto or
PhotoShop and what's going to video.
    a. Different resolution. Just the number of lines as the selected type of project
eg: PAL 4x3 = 625 lines ≈ same in pixles (But square not elongated or visa versa)
    b. iMovie "Viewer" is just an approximation. I connected my miniDV Camera
to FW and analog to a TV. Select in pref - Play back via Camera. Now I see
the final quality on my TV. Usally much better.

  • What is the best file format for importing photos into Imovie?

What is the best format to save photos in before bringing into Imovie? What is the best resolution for them and what is the best size? These will eventually be ported over to IDVD. It seems that as jpgs Imovie didn't recognize them, but as psds it did.

    hi Richard:
Just a personal preference, but if I intend on using the photos for printing I keep them in the PSD form. When adding to imovie, however, I use .pict
