IMovie 6.0.3 - White Screen in iMovieHD playback

MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1 GB Memory / 2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo
After a lot of trouble, I converted an iMovieHD file into a Quicktime file. When I returned to the original piece in iMovieHD the screen is completely white during playback and there is no audio. All elements are visible on the timeline and in he clips windows, but I can't see anything during playback..... I have no plug-ins.

see my question.. and answer!

  • IMovie quits on opening backed up iMovies and/or shows white screen- no pic

OK- I had a problem with my MacBook Pro's use of iDVD to the point that I couldn't burn a decent DVD so I reformatted (yes, extreme but I couldn't even decompress .pkg files anymore!) and before I did- backed up all the iMovie projects and junked the iDVDs for reworking once I was done.
Now- updated iDVD to the latest 6.0.3 (had been 6.0.1 before) and was all happy.
    Tried to launch iMovie (6.0.2)?
    CRASH!
No matter what I do- it crashes or opens and shows a WHITE screen (still shows the clips in the time-line but no picture etc).
    What can I do?

Mystery solved- when you use Apple's software update to update your system with do NOT expect to receive all required updates.
iMovie 6.0.2 requires QT 7.1.x and the update only delivered QT 7.0.x!
LOL- all is well now and iMovie is working swimmingly.

  • Device driver error msg at startup-get white screen w/audio during playback

PE10 has been working fine until today.
Upon startup I get an error message saying my display driver is incompatible.
I checked the driver in Windows 7-it says the driver is up to date and working fine.
When playing back a video clip I'm editing in PE10, I get a white screen in the playback area with the correct audio. When I pause the playback, the video image appears. Play = white playback screen.
    I have
    -checked the display driver
-rolled my computer back to an earlier restore point
    -uninstalled and reinstalled PE10
    -turned off my firewall
    Any other suggestions to try?

What version of Premiere Pro? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Pro CS5.5 with the 5.5.2 update).
    Premiere Elements 10
Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
    none available
What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".
    Windows 7 AMD dual-core processor
AMD Radeon HD 6310 display driver
What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime".
MVI files from camera -- all worked fine in PE10 until today - same files play fine in other players
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
What were you doing when the problem occurred?
    Starting up PE10
    Has this ever worked before?
    Yes, always until today.
What other software are you running?
    None
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed?
    No
Tell us about your computer hardware. Be especially certain to tell us about third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU).
I'm not techie and don't know what this means - I don't have anything mentioned in brackets
Are you using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration?
    no
Does the problem only happen with your final output, with previews, or both?
Error message above happens during startup
PE10 now loads really slowly (5 minutes)
Playback in project gives white screen instead of video. Audio is fine.

  • IMovie 10 White Screen, User Profile Specific

I am using iMovie's 10 and I have a white screen whenever I open iMovie on Maverick 10.9.2. However, iMovie works fine on another user profile. I tried deleting com.apple.iMovieApp.plist that was in the library preference folder but I still do not know what to do. May you help me?

The fact that it works fine with another user means there is a conflict with something in your Home folder. Finding it is not an easy task. Many have found the conflict to be in their user directory>library>preferences. You can move half the preferences to the desktop and try iMovie. If it works then take half of those on the desktop add them back and check iiMovie. Continue this process until you find the problem. Very laborous indeed. Another option perhaps better is to create a new admin user and selectively move your Home directory files into it until  you get an iMovie failure.

  • When i open my computer I get the white screen with apple symbol and there are vertical lines all over the screen with green pixels and after a few minutes the screen gets grey and I get message to restart my computer what happens

3 years ago I bought an IMac Desktop that I am using for a lot of things but the most important for dvd montage in Imovies and Idvd.
Now today when I opened my computer I get as usual the white screen with the Apple symbol but there were all over the screen vertical lines with green pixels and after a while the screen gets grey and I get message to restart my computer using the power button or the restart button and when I do so each time the same is happening somebody can tell me what is happening and what caused this. This computer is my work and now I have no income anymore.
On the Apple support site they are asking to enter the serial number and when I do so I get message it is wrong but it is the only one I have and I buy this computer in Cairo Egypt. I am living in Hurghada in Egypt for the moment. When I call the technical support of the shop where I buy it they are telling me that it is the hard disk or ram and that I probably lost everything on it and they are asking a big amount to repair.
Can somebody advise me on this matter. Thanks in advance

You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
You can also boot into Safe mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
       1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
       2. Press the power button.
       3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
       4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
    Please post back with results,
To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

  • .AVI file has white screen but does have sound...

I have an .AVI file someone sent me which by using QT Pro shows just a white screen but does have audio.
I have Perian installed and it didn't help with the white screen. I have opened it fine in VLC player, and a couple of other media players but my issue is that I want to import the AVI file into iMovie so I can make it into a DVD. However, if I import it into iMovie, it will be the same white screen with audio.
I have searched the web far and wide to find a solution and most are saying it could be only viewable in QT on a PC of all things.
Is there any components out there which will help me with this problem? Any other suggestions?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    RB

But when I selected the problematic AVI file it too appeared with a white screen w/sound in MPEG Streamclip. So I realized it wouldn't help me either.
A white screen usually means the selected video codec is not compatible with the actual file. Normally, I would run a conflict test. Based on your previous posts regarding the compression formats in use and the video codec attempting to perform video playback, my first guess would be that the Perian component is trying to decode a DivX (possibly v5) file. I would probably either temporarily remove the Perian component and see if the AVI file plays or remove and then replace the DivX component (if the latest one is already installed) and see if this changes the component access order so DivX is called for video playback. If you have an older DivX component installed, there may be a conflict issue. (Remember to close QT while removing/replacing components so the list will be re-initialized before making a playback test.) If all else fails, try posting a sample file so we can see if the problem can be duplicated on other systems/configurations.

  • Quicktime Pro exports white screen when trying to export to iPod or DV

I'm recording video on a "Flip" video camcorder which plays back great in Quicktime but when I try to convert the files to either DV so I can edit them in iMovie, or convert them so I can watch them on my iPod, I end up with sound but no picture, just a white screen. I've tried some other QT video from other sources and have the same results so I'm guessing that it is not the camera. I thought it might be my settings to I tried other "Export To" settings but I always end up with a white screen. Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

Add (free) Perian and use (free) MPEG Streamclip to open and export to QT.

  • White screen and message reading "No bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key"

My iMac was recently upgraded to the new Lion software. I dont know if that has anything to do with it but, the computer was working fine. I was working in iMovie, had Safari open. My cousins and I opened Photo Booth and started taking pictures. When we clicked on effects and selected an effect everything froze. I turned off the computer and when it started up, the screen was white. I unpluged it and restarted it, same thing. I unplugged it and around 3 hours later I turned it back on...same thing! Well this time after the white screen appears for I dont know...10 15 seconds..it goes black and a message saying "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key" appears. I have no idea what to do. I have stuff that needs to get done that is saved on this computer. PLEEAASSEE HEELLPP!!!!

Start up you computer holding down the option and select Macintosh HD (or whatever name you gave your OS drive). If successful, take a trip to System Preferences->Startup Disk and make sure the proper HD is selected. Hope this helps.

  • How to make BBSAK able to detect 9860 - White Screen

    Hi Guys
Need serious help here. My 9860 (7.0) is showing  'white screen'. It happened since I tried to reload OS using BBSAK. Seems I choose wrong menu. As adviced by an expert, I have to wipe it again to see 507 error code. I tried to wipe it through BBSAK but Unfortunately BBSAK didn't detected the device anymore.
My question is: How to make BBSAK able to detect my device.
    The situation are as follow:
    1. BB Desktop Manager & Apploader detected my device (means USB driver are installed correctly & using OEM USB cables and good USB Port.). Trying to reload OS through these apps still stacked at the white screen (75%), same as through web uploader.
    2. Already uninstall and reinstall BBSAK, Rrestore my laptop system, modify compatibility program of BBSAK, and tricks in windows task manager to avoid conflict between BBDM and BBSAK, still failed.
    3. Clean Uninstall BBDM and BB Link and reinstall BBDM 7.0 Version only (BBDM 7.1 seems not reliable-for me).
    4. Tried to wipe using JL_Cmder & Vnbbutils, both didn't  execute wipe process.
    5. Registry Cleaner using CCleaner.
Additional info: BBSAK detected my 9860 once when I was using BBDM 7.0 but since I upgraded to BBDM 7.1, it didn't detected anymore, so I had removed BBDM 7.1 and reinstall BBDM 7.0.
The result is: BBSAK still didn't detect my 9860.
Helps will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time & effort.
    Regards,
    Arthur.

When I do that it only makes a short portion (the top video) color somehow it shortens the clip to 2 seconds, I tried to edit for the full 47 second clip (just a sample to play with) but it keeps going back to 2 seconds for the top video.
Any other ideas?  I do have Final Cut Pro as well as Adobe After Effects as well, but I just figured iMovie would be easiest way to do this simple effect...

  • Compressor White Screen

My friend uses fraps to record his video but he want me to edit it. In order to do this we needed to change the .avi from fraps to .mov so i could edit with imovie. to begin with we started with a free program but the quality was so bad that it was almost un-veiwable . Next we decided to go big or go home and get a nice expensive video encoder. however when we attempted to use the shiny new Compressor 4 it resulted in a white screen. The audio was fine but the screen was completely white.
    Thx for any help

Hi Tomas, do you have any further information? Your environment, error logs? Screen capture (other than white screen). Cant help without that.
If no success and whilst on the FREEWARE non FCPX thing, the .AVI containers etc....I'd propose you use Handbrake.app from //handbrake.fr in lieu of Compressor.app. It has a good CLI version. Install VLC to get the FREEWARE / OPEN SOURCE codecs.

  • Keynote export to Quicktime = blank white screen

We have Keynote 4.0.1. We have a slide show that plays perfectly, but when we Export to Quicktime, the resulting movie has a blank white screen and our music track, but no narration and no graphics.
    Any clues?
    Thanks!

From your description your problem may be that you have QuickTime video embedded in your Keynote document.
QT video will play normally in a Keynote presentation, however when you export the Keynote presentation to a QT movie, the video will be blank. This is a long-standing issue with Keynote and the 4.0.2 update does not fix this problem.
There is no workaround using Keynote only.
You can export the graphics portion of the Keynote presentation to a QT movie and then embed that movie in a video editing program such as Final Cut Pro (I don't believe iMovie is up to the task). Once you've assembled all the pieces--the Keynote presentation, your narration, and whatever else--you will then be able to export to a QuickTime movie.

  • Blank white screen plays

I generated some .mov files using a 3D program that play fine in Quicktime, but when imported to iMovie, they just display a blank white screen for the tenure of the clip.
Why would the files play fine in Quicktime, but not iMovie?

    Hi Z
Can be so that QT can handle more file types than iMovie.
To import into iMovie I allways open in QT-pro and then save as
    Streaming-DV.

  • Suddenly white screen when launched

I just opened IMovie '08 today and not only does it take forever to open, once it is opened all I saw was the dark screen with no images and no function of the buttons. I clicked on Open New Project and how all I see is a white screen with an empty black box at the top right where the viewer should be.
I downloaded Snapz Pro X today to video some tutorials on my desktop. Could this be the problem or something else?
I have used I Movie '08 in the past with no problems.
    Thanks!

    UPDATE:
Okay, now I can see the main screen and one of my clips, but I can't select anything, including all my IPhoto images (which I can't see), or when I click on the tool bar and make selections, nothing happens. I click all over the screen and nothing happens...?
