IMovie 6 Manuals vs. iMovie HD 6

I am trying to find a users manual for iMovie HD 6 that came with my ilife 06 suite. I can't seem to tell if iMovie 6 is different from iMovie HD 6. Can anyone tell me if they the same? I checked and I have iMovie HD 6 version 6.0.3 and want a good comprehensive users manual like the 'missing manual' series but want to purchase the right one.

"iMovie HD 6" and "iMovie 6" are the same thing, the version of iMovie that ships with iLife 6.
So yes, you want the book "iMovie 6 & iDVD: The Missing Manual".

  • I would like to manually transfer all my iMovie content from SL to LION.  How do I do this manually?

    HI!
I want to manually transfer all of my iMove data ( projects etc) from SL to LION.
What is the best way for me to do this?
Does the data need to be stored on an external drive so an OPTION / click OPEN is performed or is it emerly a matter of dragging and dropping a folder?
    Thanks

    Hi
or is it emerly a matter of dragging and dropping a folder?
    NO - No No No
    Moving Event's and Project's
Connection - Either connect one Mac in Target mode to the other via FireWire. Or use an external hard disk !
(Target-Mode - Start one Mac e.g. laptop - BUT keep T-key down during full up-start - Now a FW-symbol is jumping around the screen and it will work as an external hard disk when connected to the other Mac)
    A. The External Hard Disk - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work for Video. UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange works for most other things but not for Video whatever program is used (iMovie or FinalCut)
    B. Should be a FireWire one as USB/USB2 performs badly to me and especially when filling up
    C. Do never Move or Alter any folder named
    • iMovie Event's - or -
    • iMovie Project's
on DeskTop/Finder - as this will result in iMovie losing connections to them and repair can be anything from hard to impossibly
    D. Moving and Copying must be done within iMovie application and Events to Events - and - Project's to Project's.
    E. Moving Project's to Event's - Do not work for me - I have to export project as a QuickTime movie then Import this intoEvents.
Event's window can show two faces
    Like this
    or like this
from one hard disk Event - You can move it to the other hard disk
You can not (at least not me) move Event to Project or other way around only
Event to Event and Project to Project

    Hi Appleman,
You are very kind and know alot about iMovie.
Please help me with Plug-ins.  I bought on-line some Plug-ins and after installing them I can't find them anywhere on iMovie'11.  Would you help me to find away to use these Plug-ins.  I've email the company I bought them from (Stupendous) but no reponse from them.  I have a project in 1 week and really need to get this plug-ins to work.
Thank you in advance for your help or pointing me to a resource where I can get some help.  Thank you. AG

  • Manual for iMovie?

I'm new to the system and would like a manual to refer to for using iMovie. I find the videos not suitable for remembering every detail. Is there a manual available?

These brief but informative tutorials on Apple.com may be helpful:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie
Also, one of the helpful regulars who post on this board, Steve Mullen, has an excellent eBook, The Ins and Outs of Imovie 09:

  • IMovie '09 not allowing a me to fade a song manually?

I have two music tracks that I want to play, one right after another, and have the first track fade out for five seconds before starting the next track (song from my iTunes music library which I selected and dragged into my project from the media browser). I open up the audio "inspector" for the first song and choose to fade out manually and set the slider to 5 seconds, then select Done. The song DOES NOT fade out. I have trimmed the song to match some photo content, and would like the first song to fade to 0 at the end of the trimmed version I have in the project, but it just cuts from full volume to 0 when it's done playing that trimmed song. Am I missing something? This has worked for me before.

I think I have figured out my problem and thought I would share. Talked with an apple-care product mgr last night and he was most helpful. Didn't charge me anything either because I had just purchased ilife 09.
We went into my iphoto library that I was using mostly to drag pics into my imovie project. I clicked on a picture and click on the "info tab" at the bottom left corner of the iphoto page. It showed the properties of the photo and the size was "0 KB". Immediately he said that probably is the problem. What I had done was imported these pics in via zip drive, and they showed up but I didn't save them to my hard drive so the minute I removed the zip drive, the thumbnail of the pic (which is what i could see) stayed, but the info left with my zip drive. So when I dragged a picture into imovie, it would go in there but Imovie wouldn't recognize it (obviously to me now)!!! This was late last night so I haven't had much time to work on it but so far so good for me.
So go to your pictures or whatever you imported into your project and verify the size. If it says 0 kb, then delete and reimport and save the pic to your desktop. Then go to size and it should be normal.
Might not solve all your problems but I am thankful!!!!!! 3 1/2 weeks of banging my head against the wall!!!!!

  • Manual removal of iMovie - then can't reinstall

Needing to make more room on the main drive I manually removed iMovieHD. Wanting to reinstall it i could see no way except to reinstall the whole OSX Tiger. But iMovie did not re-appear !! Was it because it wasn't there at re-install time so it only installed apps that were previously there. HELP

    You are contradicting yourself:
Wanting to reinstall it i could see no way except to reinstall the whole OSX Tiger. But iMovie did not re-appear !
If you had lost the disks you could not have reinstalled Tiger. Moreover, if you have lost the disks Apple will replace them for you, possibly for a small charge.

  • Where can I download a user guide/manual for iMovie v8.0.6

These versions are on my iMac now. thanks

Not a manual, but a really good to tutorial is available from Ken Stone here.
If you need a printed manual, try David Pogue's Book - iMovie 09: The Missing Manual.

  • IMovie 08 Manual

I'm very disappointed that Apple introduces a new version of IMovie and yet has not published a manual for it. Some of us have a hard time using the video training modules and need a hard copy. Any idea when it will be published?

You should make your concerns know to Apple directly via their iMovie Feedback web page.

  • Imovie 10 for MAC manual available OFFLINE?

Is there an offline manual for Imovie 10 (for Mac) ....I was working on a movie last night, and my slightly flaky internet connection caused me a lot of greif as it dropped and I could not get help.

Interesting, I had not realized that the help accessed from within iMovie 10 is no longer local as it was in iMovie 9.
I could not find a downloadable version.   The only option would seem to be to make a local copy of the help website using something like SiteSucker (http://sitesucker.us/mac/mac.html).  I've no experience of using it though.
    Geoff.

  • Is there an up to date manual for iMovie 10.01?

I'm a first time Mac user looking to use iMovie.   The on-line help manual provided appears to be out of date.   Does a 2013 / 2014 manual / tutorial exist?

I took video using my Iphone 4S and uploaded it into my Macbookpro iphoto.  When I open imovie it does not recognize the video when I import it manually it is distorted.

Did you ever get an answer to this? I just experienced the distortion when I imported a video from my iPhone 4 to iPhoto.

  • Imovie '08 won't manually import movies from Canon Elura 100

I previously manipulated movies using Windows (oh the horror), but moving over to the Mac world has presented an issue with importing movies. To define clips that were easier to edit, I previously put 2 second, closed-shutter spaces between clips. imovie isn't bridging the gaps between clips and won't allow me to further import the movies automatically, nor manually import them.
When I use the onscreen play button, the camera starts for an instant and then immediately stops.
Are there settings to overcome this?

    iphoto '11 version 9.2.3.
The camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ20 and I am using a Sandisk Ultra SDHC card.
I think it might be something to do with the camera and/or SD card as when I upload from my DSLR camera or my phone I don't have this problem.
It imports the still version of the movie but not the movie itself. I have inadvertently deleted several videos lately and its getting very frustrating!!
