IMovie 6 Transitions??

I just upgraded from iMovie HD 5 to 6. I thought from looking through the Apple store that iMovie 6 had added several transitions... where are they? Does anyone know of any companies that make transitions for iMovie 6? I can find a bunch for iMovie 2 and 3.

I'm not aware of transitions in iMovie HD 6, that weren't there in iMovie HD 5.
Billow, Disintegrate and Ripple I think were introduced in iMovie HD 5.

Imovie 09 transitions glitch with (.MOV) files

Hi Guys,
Anyone help please - *imac just about to go out the window and wife very fed up of foul language!*
I have been successfully creating movies in imovie HD for a number of years and have recently updated to imovie 09. At the same time I have purchased a new Kodak Zi6 mini camcorder (fantastic HD quality clips for a tiny palm held camera, for those interested). Films in HD 720p 60fps, HD 33fps and VGA. Thought this would be ideal with imovie as films in .MOV mode and clip imported in look glorious. All goes well with all the wonderful new features in imovie 09 (new title styles are particularly good) until I try and add transitions between frames. Some work sometimes, some don't work at all. The 'Cross Dissolve' (which I love) will usually freeze the following clip in the view window although the red time line continues in the Project Library. What is even more frustrating is the same transition works between some clips and not others there really doesn't seem to be any logic at all. Thought it might be a problem with the HD60 mode having too many fps but have also tried in HD30 and VGA - to no avail. I have a new 3.06 GHz imac with 4GB of RAM so I'm sure its not a power problem. I've done all the usual reboots and opened New Projects and have even tried the clips in imovie HD with all the same issues.
Will I have to except that I've wasted my money on this camera or can anyone help - I would be very pleased if you can.

I tried the MPEG STREAMCLIP option and like yourself exported to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codex @ 100% quality (you can also export in DV mode with much the same results) - it worked fine but file sizes trebled and quality reduced (you can also. As you say its also a pain to have to go though another process. To be able to do it inside imove is a much better option (thanks to tjworld for that, who would have thought of doing that!!!) Surely this will be something Apple have to sort out in the next upgrade. So pleased that I can continue using the Zi6 as it's a really smart little camera - even though mine is pink one (the camera that is!) This is the first time I've used a discussion stream so thanks again all for the help

IMovie 08 transitions length...How do I change the duration of the transit

Believe me, I've tried Edit, set duration, apply to all transitions.. it won't stay at the time that I set it. Can I get some help out there?

I do have the same problems. I want to show some 10 pictures as a movie. Therefore I set the duration of all pictures to 0.4 sec and the transitions between to 0.1 sec. First I observe that not all photos have the same duration (some are 0.36 sec some are 0.5 sec ?!?). When I set the duration of all transitions to 0.1 sec then I get an error "Fell short of minimum" (which is not explained in Help) and the durations of the transitions are between 0.2 and 0.4 sec (regardless whether I choose to ignore ore cancel the request)
Help just says that the duration of the transitions need to be shorter than half the length of the shorter clip which I intend to have.
So to me this is a bug. Maybe you can report it to http://www.apple.com/feedback/imovie.html

IMovie (2013) transition problem

I am having problems with tarnsitions in the new 2013 version of iMovie. It appears to occur only when editiong1080 HD video. The clipfollowing the transition "stutters" slightly for a second or teo after the transition. This does not seem to happen with lower grade video. Has anyone else expereinced this and, if so, how can it be resolved?

I think I found the answer, actually. It seems to happen when the clips are too short to overlap properly and imovie keeps the transition as short as possible. you can work around it though, as long as the clip is at least a few seconds long.
Right-Click on the transition and choose Show Precision Editor.
The transition opens up and you can see the overlap between the two clips, with the transition in between them. If you grab the left or right edge of the transition you should be able to stretch it out and increase the duration. You may need to give the transition more room by to repositioning the clips. This can be done by clicking and dragging the clips left or right.

Imovie clip transitions

i have imovie '09 and i am trying to set my clip transitions to an exact place in the music but can't figure out how... any suggestions?

A transition has a start and end, and takes time. For this reason it is hard to experience a transition as taking place at a certain time.
On the other hand, it can be very effective to have clips that use a "jump cut" or instant cut to the next clip on the beat.
To do this, use the Beat Marker feature if iMovie 09 or iMovie 11.

IMovie 6 transition

Hi, I have had many problems with the audio in IMovie 6. I have spoken to tech support 10 times and they cannot come up with a fix for it except to extract the audio. I know alot of people are having the same problem. So I have been exr=tracting the audio from the whole movie and adding the transitions. It seems to work great. My question is when I want to delete a transition that I added it seems to leave a gap in the audio (it seems to erase the audio as it did the transition). Does anyone know how to delete a transition without messing up the audio. HELP

In testing that Andrew, I noticed that some of the locked extracted audio became displaced after the transition was removed, thus leaving a gap in the audio track. Check to see if this has happened to you.
The yellow 'lock' pins will still be there, but may be misaligned. You can drag the audio segments back into their correct positions.

IMovie 6 transition sound problem - transposed soundtracks? Any solution?

I can see that this problem has been discussed many times, and I am getting by using some of the suggested "work-arounds", but I was just wondering if there have been any actual solutions to this problem? I never had this problem before, and I don't exactly know when it started, but it is VERY ANNOYING! I have iMovie6 and a 2.4 GHz iMac with an Intel Core 2 Duo. I am still using Leapard, OS version 10.5.8 simply because it seems to work fine, and I haven't needed any of the newer features. However, if this transition issue would be corrected with an upgrade, I would gladly upgrade! Has anyone found a solution for this transition sound problem?

Like you I find this very annoying .
For me "extracting audio" sometimes results in the audio becomming out of sync with the video, also doing the "update" mentioned above does not fix it for me; I must be doing something wrong?
Having opened iMovie 6 to try "update " fix and failed I started to try a few things.I think I have found a solution that works.
The following sounds complicated, but is not; reading twice is recommended
Most of us apply a string of transitions from left to right i.e. between clip 1 and 2 then between 2 and 3 then 3 and 4 and so on. The audio glitch will occur in say transition 2/3 because there is a transition immediately before it in 1/2 and likewise a glitch in 3/4 because of the transition immediately before in 2/3 .
I find you do not get a transition audio glitch between 2 clips if there is no transition immediately before.
So the simple solution is having sorted all your clips and edited, apply the transitions in reverse direction i.e. from the end of the movie working towards the beginning; transition between clip 39/40 then 38/39, 37/38 and so on down to 2/1.
If you do not want to start at clip 40 for some reason you can say do (assuming you want all clips to have transitions) clips 5 down to 1, then say 15 down to 10, then say 10 down to 5 etc etc. But you will notice that when you do clip 5/6 in this scenario you already have a transition for 4/5 so you will get an audio glitch for 5/6.
The solution here before doing transition 5/6 is to split video at playhead somewhere in clip 5 so that there is a break in the transitions but no interuption in the video.
If you are able to apply transitions in one session then working backwards from the end is the easiest solution and takes no longer than any other method.
If you have to do it in segments still work backwards but spit clip at playhead as above when approaching an already applied transition in order to create a "transition break".
Alternatively a quick and dirty way might be to split every clip in 2 before applying transitions and apply the transitions anywhere except at the splits.This way you should not have to worry what order or direction you apply them in.
If you try this let me know how you get on.

Using imovie themed transitions

First time I am posting on a forum or ever...so am new to this...
I am using iMovie 11 and I am creating a new project with no themes. But I want to use transitions that seem to only be available in themed projects. Specifically, I want to use the scrapbook 1 transition but I don't see this option available when I am creating a project without themes. I don't want the whole project in the scrapbook theme, I just wanted to use some of their transitions. How do i do that?
Hope someone can help me, I have to put the project together for a wedding and only have a week to get it all done.

Thanks SO MUCH!! Sometimes apple just makes things to simple and now that you told me what to do, it seems so logical. I thought I had to use the titles and didn't even realize that I should just try to delete the effect. Thanks for your help! Really appreciate it!

IMovie 09 transitions are broken after June update

Has anyone else seen this? The iMovie transitions, like the complex "old film" transitions are now completely screwed, they stop, jerk, lock up on play back.
Has anyone else seen this? I called Apple and they said they'd never heard of it.
I see a few posts on here about broken transitions, are these all made after the update from a couple of weeks back>

Slow Down iMovie Credits Transition

I am using a Scrolling Credit Transition and it move way too fast. Can some recommend a way to slow it down? I have tried to increase time on it and add space to the text but no help to slow it down.

I cannot figure out a way to lengthen the effect.
Select the background clip and access the "cog" icon to select the "Clip Adjustments" option. Set a longer duration. Since all this does is extend the "background" you then have to select the "Text" above the clip and stretch its length to match the background clip.

IPad iMovie Clip Transition Problems

iMovie works great but if I overlap one clip with another I cannot select any clips at all or exit back to the marque (select my projects) button. The only button selectable is undo. If I undo enough until the clips no longer overlap then I can once again select clips for editing and select the my projects buttons. What's wrong?

IMovie Transitions - Restricted User Rights

We have an old image where iMovie 2 transitions works but on a new image we build, it doesn't. It will only work when logged on as an admin or normal user account.
What am I missing? Same problem with Adobe elements 2 and layer styles. (File sharing is turned off)

IMOVIE 8 DARK TRANSITIONS

I am using a 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 8 GB 1066 MHz DDR3.
I am having issues using iMovie 8 Transitions. They turn a shade darker during any transition. It is a very obvious snap to darker at the beginning of the transition and then snaps back to normal after the transition.
I am using the (HDV 1080i) setting and the video was shot with a SONY HDV camera. I do not have the problem when using the (DV Widescreen) setting..
What am I missing?

Saw your question a few days ago but couldn't reply till now.
I saw here a problem like this a few months ago and replied with my experiences.It was with iMovie HD 06, not iMovie 8 though.When I had this issue with 06 and importing HDV 1080i from a Sony camera I could not find any other discussions on this matter .I experimented and came up with a workaround.
As I say this was for iMovie HD 06 but give it a try.
I can only assume this is not a big problem out there or else alot of other people would be discussing it.Or maybe it is there but is only noticed by the few???? Any comments from anybody?

Have been playing around recently with iMovie HD 6 having used iMovie 09 for about 12 months. I was about to give up on iMovie HD 6 due to this effect of darkening during the transitions that I was applying.Most of the transitions in iMovieHD 6 gave me the darkening effect BUT one that did not was the one called CIRCLE CLOSING and it is this one that gives me a workaround which is very quick and simple to apply.
Open iMovie HD and when you are ready to apply your transitions apply the transition called CIRCLE CLOSING to just ONE place in your project, say between clip1 and 2. Now delete this transition i.e. select transition by clicking on it in the clip viewer, click edit ,then click cut. This CIRCLE CLOSING transition is now deleted. You can now add the transitions of your choice, any quantity, without getting the darkening effect, and they stay that way.
If you want to add more transitions after you have quit iMovie or are doing another project then you have to repeat the above " apply and delete procedure for CIRCLE CLOSING" which only takes about 15 seconds.
Hope this works for you as it does for me.
Not sure how big a problem this is out there as not much of this problem is on the discussions pages, in fact this is the only one I could find.

Wanting to use multiple transitions on 1 slideshow?

I want to make a slideshow for graduation party. This will be played continuously. I want to incorporate different transitions on one. I've read that you can to do it if you use slideshow from iphoto. I can not seem to get past the files when I click on media, photo. Slideshows don't show up. This is my first attempt with wanting to use multiple transitions. I've made DVD's with chapters. Plus, I never have used it as continues play. Any help and ideas would be a welcome.

In iPhoto, put your photos into an album. Then, open your album to display the photos that you put in it. Select all the photos. At the bottom of the album display window, there will be an icon called Slideshow. Click on it, and the photos that you selected will be placed into a slide show with a separate icon in the display panel. In the slideshow transition settings, select Random. That will play the available transitions at random.
If you want more flexibility than iPhoto's "Random" setting will give you, you will need to create your slide show in iMovie where you can manually insert any of iMovie's transitions. Then drag your iMovie project icon (the one with the star on it) into the window of your iDVD project.
