Imovie 6 won't allow me to retrieve trash files.

It won't allow me to drag files from the trash back into the timeline. I just purchased a Macbook Pro and had this same application on my old mac and this was never a problem. Any one know what to do?

I have not had the problem that you describe. But, you might try the frequently recommended procedure of closing iMovie and then trashing the com.apple.iMovie.plist file found in user/library/preferences. iMovie will create a new file upon relaunch. Then do a permissions repair using the Disk Utility application. Those steps are easy to do and frequently will resolve problems of this nature.
Since you have a new Macbook Pro, does it have iLife '08 on it? If so, you might need to upgrade to version 6.04 of iMovie for the latter to work properly. Just a thought.
Perhaps someone else on this forum will have a better suggestion.

Please help me figure this out. I'm very unhappy at the moment. I'm fustrated and don't have any idea how to revert to the original version before the update was done on iMovie 10. My job depends on it! I worked so hard on this wedding video and now it's lost and won't open. I work another job and don't have much time. I really don't want to start all over again. I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?
I am running Yosemitie on a iMac.

It seems you are trying to access the service via Adobe Reader. Make sure you are signed in with your Adobe ID. Is Reader updated to the latest patch v 11.0.09?
It might be possible that a firewall or antivirus might be breaking the connectivity from Reader to the server.
Try accessing the service from the browser: https://cloud.acrobat.com/exportpdf and check if that works for you.

Imovie project won't allow me to do anything to it

I went to add one my last pictures to my project when imovie froze and unexpectedly quit on me. When i restarted imovie, I went to my movie project and realized that it wouldn't let me do anything to it. I can't delete pictures. It won't play the pictures and the song at the same time. I can't do anything. So I decided to try and start over but when I did that, it ended up doing the exact same thing. I have been using imovie for weeks now and have had no problem. Please help. I am using imovie 09 and am using the brand new macbookpro 17inch.

The same thing happened to me yesterday on the BB8900. Nothing works. Up[dated the software & removed the battery several times to no avail. Still hoping for a solution.

A movie i made in imovie HD won't delete out of my trash can!

I recently made a movie in imove HD.
I then wanted to delete it, and once i existed the application and dragged it into the trash, and pressed empty trash, it says;
"The operation cannot be completed because the item is in use"
How can i delete this item?
And this is quite frustrating as i like my laptop neat and my trash can empty.

Try rebooting first then emptying the trash. If that doesn't work then Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner from Northern Softworks has a Force Empty Trash option. SL Cache Cleaner is shareware but it will work in demo mode for a while.

Time Capsule won't allow me to delete locked files

I have transferred old files from my external hard drive (Mac OS Extended - Journaled) to my Time Capsule.
However, when I tried to delete those files via "move to Trash", some folders cannot be deleted due to the error below:
The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items.
I checked the folder and some of the files are LOCKED. However, when I try "Get Info", the Lock checkbox is disabled.
Some things to take note:
I did not change user account
I am using Mountain Lion OS
I am using Time Capsule as my wifi router
I am too scared to use the Terminal but I reckon that is the only way how. I tried to google how to do it but I haven't seen any clear instructions on my specific problem. I tried to go to the Time Capsule path but Terminal says "the path does not exist".

you could try this:
go system preferences > time machine and turn TM off. click on +change disk+ and select none.
next, delete this file <MacintoshHD>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist.
restart your machine, go system preferences > time machine and turn TM back on. click on +change disk+, re-select your backup volume and click +use for backups+.

Does that also happen if you try to open a PDF stored on your disk? If so, change the .pdf file association to open with Adobe Reader.

Firefox won't allow me to download my files from icloud, but Safari does. Why?

When I use icloud, I can see my files 'in the cloud', but when I try to download them to my Mac, nothing happens, and I cannot find the files anywhere. If I use Safari however, there is no problem, and the files pop straight into my download folder.

Open the Error Console (Tools > Error Console) and view the error messages. When you locate that specific error message, right-click it and select '''Copy''' and then Paste that message here. That should tell us what's wrong.

My Photoshop won't allow me to save .png files

I have a menu I created, and I used the sl
ice tool to slice it, so when I do "Save for web..." I select png and clik save, but it only saves one of the menus as .png, the rest of them are jpg, why is this happening? this morning was working fine.

You have to have the slice tool selected. Select the first slice then for each slice you wish to add hit CTRL + click (mouse). Then right click on the whole selection and select combine slices. Then assign whatever attributes you wish.

Textedit won't allow me to save .txt file "The file "Untitled.txt" couldn't be opened."

I have searched for this but couldn't find the answer for it. Everytime I use textedit and then tried to save my file I get the following error "The file "Untitled.txt" couldn't be opened." I am trying to save the file to my desktop with .txt extension but still not able to do so and it is driving me crazy.

I have recently upgraded to Mavericks 10.9.2 - there are a number of glitches that I have noticed. Hopefully Apple will remedy the issues soon.
Recently TextEdit has been behaving weirdly.
I type a document and go to save and I get the following:
I think you'll agree that the document exists, this is a screenshot of it.
I know there is a "/" in the name and that Mac doesn't like it but the same problem exists with whatever name is used and in whichever location is selected for the save.
Having run Macintosh since OS 8.6 I do have some working knowledge of how to resolve problems. My immediate action was to reboot the system. Nothing - same issue. I then moved to the Preferences directory (~/Library/Preferences) and did the usual trashing of the applications preferences. I noticed that in Mavericks there are way more associated preferences for each app. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, I trashed the lot and emptied the trash. I was not able to empty the trash entirely - the system informed me that one of the documents was in use. I did not have TextEdit running. I removed the offending file from the command line using rm.
I then rebooted the system again and opened TextEdit and tried again and lo and behold the documents were able to be saved. However on inspection of the Preferences again I now find that TextEdit seems to have no preferences? See the Spotlight search below.
Whilst I tend to adhere to the adage "if it ain't broke - don't fix it" in this case I would really rather like to see the TextEdit Prefs.
Maybe there is a Mac-guru out there that can explain a) what is going on here b) how to reinstate some prefs for TextEdit as it would seem pretty normal that they exist. and c) what happens if TextEdit throws a wobbler again, I have no prefs to trash
At this time of writing TextEdit seems to be behaving normally aside from the above mentioned prefs issue.

Retrieving Trashed files after deleting?

Ok. I bought "FILESALVAGE" and looked for my missing files. It found them, but they were really small files... like 82kb instead of being big like 123MB. These files I'm looking for are quicktime mov. files from FCP. The files it found looked right, but when played only showed a black or white screen.
Am I missing something??? Is there another step I need to do to get them to play right?
Also when searching I ask it to find FCP, and Quicktime Media only, do I need to ask it to find more to link to the quicktime stuff it is finding?
Anymore help here would be fantastic!!!

Imovie 10.0.5 won't allow recording over clips

Hi,
I am using iMovie 10.0.5 and am having trouble with the recording over clips. When I am finalizing a project and I just want to add some voice over to the clips and I click the record button, 90% of the time, it's counts down 3, 2, and then hangs and stops and won't allow me to record anything. Anyone else have this problem? ....or how to fix it?

You've probably found the answer to your iMovie/voiceover by now. But....in case you didn't, here is what to do.
To insert voiceover, press the letter V on your keyboard. Click on the video in the Create Box. With your mouse, choose where you want to place your voiceover. Click there. Recording can't happen if you don't choose where you want the voiceover to start. Now, click on the microphone. 1-2-3 record. Hit the space bar when you want to stop voiceover in 10.0.5. To listen to your video with the voiceover in place, click on the beginning of the video and hit the space bar. If you want to remove your recorded voice, click on the it and press delete.

Imovie '08 won't manually import movies from Canon Elura 100

I previously manipulated movies using Windows (oh the horror), but moving over to the Mac world has presented an issue with importing movies. To define clips that were easier to edit, I previously put 2 second, closed-shutter spaces between clips. imovie isn't bridging the gaps between clips and won't allow me to further import the movies automatically, nor manually import them.
When I use the onscreen play button, the camera starts for an instant and then immediately stops.
Are there settings to overcome this?

iphoto '11 version 9.2.3.
The camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ20 and I am using a Sandisk Ultra SDHC card.
I think it might be something to do with the camera and/or SD card as when I upload from my DSLR camera or my phone I don't have this problem.
It imports the still version of the movie but not the movie itself. I have inadvertently deleted several videos lately and its getting very frustrating!!
