IMovie 9.0.4 fixed my iMovie slow load!

I just downloaded and installed the iMovie 9.0.4 patch.  Prior to installing the patch, it would take 5-10 minutes for iMovie to open and become responsive.
I tried all the fixes posted on these forums:
opening iMovie in a new, empty user account.  Fail.
deleting preferences and prohet folders.  Fail.
created a new, empty iPhoto library.  Fail.
deleted and reinstalled iMovie.  Fail.
Didn't have DIVX installed, so could not remove it.
But the iMovie 9.0.4. patch has resolved this issue.  iMovie no longer opens a blank window and sits for 5 to 10 minutes.
iMovie now hangs without opening any sort of window!  It hangs immediately on opening, and hasn't show any signs of life for 15 minutes now.
Thanks, Apple, for this extremely useful patch.

Error - Sorry

I dont know how and I dont know why this worked but I am flying now.
On iPad went to DNSServerlist.org down the bottom it gives you IP address and suggested DNS address's.
Here's where things are strange... I *changed my DNS to the IP address instead of the suggested DNS address*. Changed it in my wifi ISP details (noting old address ) clicked return/enter. Turned iPad off then on (restart) and tried youtube.... no lag and pre fetch? very quick.
Then tried Safari and it is running as fast as my Mac... back to normal surfing speed.
Dont know how/why and dont care if it is working lol.
May help someone. Let me know. Cheers

  • How can slow-motion iphone6 video be exported to imovie on an iMac and retain its slow motion effect ?

how can slow-motion iphone6 video be exported to imovie on an iMac and retain its slow motion effect ?

thx, i can't see where you do that (access the function to slow the motion of a clip).  in the help file it says to 'right click' on the clip to access those functions but when i do i get these optios below (no motion, pan, zoom, pan and zoom).  i want access the speed/duration sliders.
i would say the function isn't available at all, but i could be looking in the wrong place (although i have tried everything).
    thx for your reply.

  • Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto

Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto.
Hi I've done a lot of searches on how to do this but no answers found.
Imovie is beginning to become really slow because of the large number of video's. It takes 3 minutes to startup. Editing is sometimes slow lot's of spinning beach balls e.t.c.
I would like to only import the video I want to edit and hopefully get a quicker Imovie in the process.
My Iphoto library is about 95 Gbyte in size.
My mac has 4 gb ram and I use the internal disk.
Any other ways to work with Imovie/Iphoto are also welcome.
    regards

I won't get iMovie 9 till Tuesday, but based on what you said I may need to take some precautions. One reason I didn't like iMovie 8 is because it automatically imported everything in iPhoto library. What I'm going to do is create a new iPhoto library before importing the photos/videos from the camera. Or if you already have it in your main iPhoto library copy only the photos you'll use in your iMovie 9 project to the new library. Then start iPhoto while pressing the option key which will allow you to select the new iPhoto library you have created. Then I suppose that when you start iMovie 9 it will automatically import only the photos/videos from the new library.

  • IMovie for Mac: "iMovie cannot open files in the "iMovie for iOS Project" format."

    Question, asked professionally
When will iMovie for Mac be able to open iMovie for iOS projects?
    Question, asked snarkily
Any reasonable expectation that we will ever be able to edit projects--created in iMovie on our fancy new expensive phones--in iMovie on our fancy new expensive laptops?
    Specs
    iPhone 6 Plus (contract-free, 128 GB)
    iOS 8.1.2
    iMovie for IOS 2.1.1

    Error Messages
iMovie for Mac: "iMovie cannot open files in the "iMovie for iOS Project" format."
iMovie for iOS: "An error occurred during export."
    Frustration
Manufacturer: Apple (a multibillion dollar company)
    The year: 2015
    Hours lost: Three Weeks
Total costs for both devices: $4,000
    Background Details
I just wasted thousands of dollars on these two hardware devices by making the rookie mistake of assuming projects were compatible across iMovie applications. However, the exported .iMovieMobile project files are in an incompatible iMovie for iOS Project format that iMovie for Mac cannot import. So I am stuck with a 15 GB .iMovieMobile project file--for an hour-long+ video--that I created and I was editing on my iPhone for weeks that I can no longer edit on my iPhone due to an error, nor potentially rescue the lost hours on my Mac, the sole reason I purchased it one day ago. The reason I can no longer edit the project on the iPhone is because iMovie for iOS suddenly stopped displaying the video of the project in preview, external display, etc. The clip snapshots remain visible and the audio remains audible, but the video appears fully black. Any attempt to export the video at any resolution generates an error message. (This error applies only to this project; other projects export without issue.) I can save to and from iTunes or iCloud without issue, but import into iMovie for Mac is unavailable for this latest version. Deleting and reinstalling the app does not resolve the issue. Nothing has resolved this issue; so I purchased the Mac as a last attempt, and it appears that I will have to begin the meticulously painful process of recreating the video from scratch with all the titling, sound effects, precise edits, transitions, organization, etc. This video was to surprise my mother for her birthday with "this is your life" footage, including my late father. It may seem like a small first-world problem, but such things carry big emotional impacts. What began as such a wonderfully intuitive and joyful experience has descended into a soul-suffering nightmare of catastrophic proportions. This software grinch stole christmas.
    Likely Suspect
I believe this originated from Apple's confusingly designed iTunes client that removed videos used by iMovie for IOS during a sync, which I successfully restored back to the iPhone. This apparently resulted in iOS seeking and then claiming to find all of the videos, but somehow a bug in the coding causes the audio to play but not display video, and no way to resolve the bug from an enduser standpoint. I was hoping that iMovie for Mac would allow me a workaround, but I'll never know because the iOS and Mac formats are currently and dishearteningly incompatible.
    Suggestions
I never performed a full backup of the iPhone, but I don't believe any of the iCloud nor local backups actually backup iMovie projects themselves anyway. (That's a fail.) So one must back them up manually to iTunes or iCloud.
MANUALLY BACKUP YOUR PROJECTS DAILY, IF NOT HOURLY.
MANUALLY BACKUP YOUR PROJECTS BEFORE IMPORTING OR SYNCING FROM ITUNES.
MANUALLY BACKUP YOUR PROJECTS BEFORE IMPORTING VIDEO CREATED OUTSIDE  OF YOUR IOS DEVICE.
    Resolutions
Hope Apple fixes this problem soon? Perhaps.
Return the Mac to Apple, if they allow? Perhaps.
Someone in this community will provide a magical workaround--that I haven't already attempted? Perhaps.
As unlikely these options may be, I shudder to imagine that I may be forced to suffer no resolution and $3,000+ completely down the drain, because if iMovie for IOS worked as intended, I wouldn't have ever purchased the Mac as a last ditch effort to rescue the project. It meant that much to me to surprise my mother by attempting to retrieve this project file from oblivion--but to no avail.

I appreciate you taking the time to copy and paste boilerplate responses to increase your points in this forum, but I've already read all those support articles in depth; but you have barely read my post at all. Please don't guess a fix. Only someone with the latest versions of iMovie, iOS, iPhone, Yosemite, and MacBook Pro is qualified to troubleshoot this, because anyone would immediately see that the following option no longer exists:
Open iMovie on your Mac, and choose File > Import > iMovie for iOS Project.
Read my post before you reply: It clearly says in the title and within my post that I can neither export nor import through iTunes without receiving an error message. So your response neither solved my question nor helped me whatsoever.

  • Transferring imovie 6.0.3 files to imovie 10.0.2

I have edited many imovie projects in imovie 6.0.3 and have saved the finished edited version on external hard drives using Mac OS extended journal. I have then used the external hard drives to open and edit the imovie projects on other computers with imovie 6.0.3 so I know that the external hard drives are functioning properly. However, when I attempt to open the saved edited imovie files from 6.0.3 on my new mac with imovie 10.0.2 to make/edit the old projects in the new imovie, the new version of imovie 10.0.2 cannot read the files from my old mac using imovie 6.0.3. I do not know how to update imovie version 6.0.3 to imovie 10.0.2 and have read other posts saying that I may have to update my imovie files from version 6.0.3 to imovie '11 which is version 9.0.4 first and then update version 9.0.4 to version 10.0.2 because it is not possible to go straight from version 6.0.2 to imovie version 10.0.2. Any help on how to update imovie 6.0.3 projects to the newest version of imovie would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

    Good morning Klaus 1
I apologize that this is off topic here but wanted to get you this info. On seach "iMovie HD and Lion" I found solution.
I copied iMovie HD app in the G4 machine app folder and put it directly into the app folder on the Lion MacBook. I can now open the old iMovie HD projects on the Lion MacBook.
I am not sure if I should reload iMovie 9.0.9 on the new machine.
Can you put this info into the proper catagory since it is such a simple solution.
    Thanks for your assistance.
I sent the above to Klaus 1 and I think babowa was the author of this solution. Thank-you.
I am now using iMovie HD 6.0.3 on the Lion machine and it works well.  I have not tried to open an old file with iMovie 9.0.9.  I am ok until this machine goes vintage or dies but for the time being I can work on old projects with the new machine.  I still have no clue as to wether these projects will convert to the newer iMovie version.
Does anyone know if I can re-download iMovie 9.0.9 on to the Lion machine.  I already paid $14.95 for the original purchase?

  • When does Apple fix the irritating slow Mavericks?

When is Apple going to fix the irritating slow Mavericks?
Once you update to that awful OS it is not easy to go back to 10.6. something.
With Mavericks it feels like i am bcak to a Windows computer! I have spent several days implementing all kind of solutions that are to be found on the internet but nothing really works. Nowadays i start my conputer and am going to do something else for about 10 minutes and hope that it has finally started up. It is about time Apple issues an update that fixes this!!!!!!

It's possible that you have some non-Mavericks compatible software installed that could be causing your problems. You could download and run the free EtreCheck and post the contents of its report here - it may help to resolve your problem as there is some software 'out there' that is known to cause problems: http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck

  • This version of iMovie cannot import Trailers created in iMovie for iOS.

I have the latest verison of iMovie on both my Mac and iPad 3g. I used a trailer on the iPad iMovie and exported it to iTunes. On my Mac I went to iTunes and pulled the file down and clicked to open it. After iMovie can up it dispalyed "This version of iMovie cannot import Trailers created in iMovie for iOS."
    How can this be?

I'm having the same problem.  I've check the instructions for exporting a Movie trailer that can be found in iMovie for iOS 6 and have followed them to a tee, numerous times.  Each time i export a trailer i've created using the iPad, i can easily save it to my MacBookPro.  But iMove on my laptop refuses to import a movie with the suffix ".iMoveTrailer", which is what you get in iMove for iOS6 when you export and use iTunes in Mac OS to save the file.  How strange?  There must be someting wrong going on here.  Anyoner have any thoughts?  I'm just trying to save an iMove trailer from the iPad and would like to burn it to a DVD to give to friends.  Hmmmm.....

  • IMovie 9.0.9 on a iMovie 2014-model

    Hey!
At this moment I am using iMovie 9.0.9; I am planning to buy a new Imac. Unfortunately iMovie 10 will be installed which I do not prefer. Please, could you advise how to install iMovie 9.0.9 on a iMovie (2014 model)? If possible, please could you sent me the link/(legal!) place to download iMovie 9.0.9? Thanks in advance for your support!
    Best regards,
    Jeroen

iMovie 9.0.9 was/is part of the retail ilife DVDs - since you have it installed, you can use your disks. If it came pre-installed on your Mac, there isn't much you can do unless you made a backup of the installer or you make a backup of your entire system and then port over only that application. In order for any install to work, you would need to delete the new imovie first or it will most likely give you a popup saying that you have a newer version installed. So, delete the new version, install the older one, and then you can download the new one again from the app store (if you want) - they will both be in the Applications folder (I have three versions there).

I bought a used macbook air, with reinstalled the OS without iMovie. How can I get iMovie on App free of charge as a default in macbook air ?

Unfortunately, as recommended by the lady from CA, as long as the Mac is still associated with the Apple ID of the original owner, you can't even buy those iLife apps with that Mac. You will always get the alert to download them with the original owner's Apple ID.
As suggested by the chavo from España, you need the original owner to contact Apple Care* and request that the OS and the iLife apps be disassociated from his Apple ID. Then you should be free to OS X Recovery to resinstall the most recent version of OS X that shipped with the Mac and install the iLife apps. Afterward, before using any of the iLife apps you need to open the Mac App Store (MAS) to the Purchases pane and Accept these apps into your MAS account's Apple ID. If you use any of the iLife apps before you have accepted them into your account, as per the app's Terms of Use, they all become one-trick-ponies that can not be downloaded onto another Mac or updated.

*If you bought the Mac from a 2nd hand shop and don't have access to the original owner, you may need to provide Apple a purchase receipt to offer proof of sale.

Restart your router and your broadband device, if they're separate. Any change?
If possible, connect to your router with an Ethernet cable and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?
Are any other devices on the network, and if so, are they the same?
If you can connect to more than one network, are they all the same?
Are all network applications affected, or only some? If only some, which ones?

Disconnect all other devices from the network. Any change?
Start up in safe mode and test. Any difference?
Start up in Recovery mode. From the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. Any difference?
If possible, turn off Bluetooth and disconnect any USB 3 devices. Any difference?

Maybe it won't run faster but could run better with more RAM.
Take a look at all the tabs in Activity Monitor. If not on the Dock, go into Applications/Utilities and open it and keep it on the dock. Can tell you what is using your processor the most, RAM usage, disk and network I/O.
Don't install things that aren't needed. That can be counter intuitive to some but 'less is more' and some just really pull a computer system down. Security programs, "clean up programs" and others.

I do have access at home to my partner's MBP 13" with iMovie and Yosemite. But if I put the iOS iMovie Project file on her computer, and edit in in her iMovie, will I be able to transfer all the files and links of the movie back to my rMPB 15"

I've been having a similar issue but for me I have tried several things:
    1. Import directly from Iphone 6.  - Left it over night and it imports some but not all
    2. Import from usb drive - I copied the photos off my phone to a usb drive. This imported into Photos and I was left with approx 12 that had the incorrect date. They said data taken was the date of import. I can lvie with this.
    3. After no.2 worked I then connected my Iphone to import any new pics and it said that I had approx 11,000 photos to import....these are the same photos that had already been imported!!!
