IMovie 9.0.4 title issues

I am making a 30 minute movie with titles, transitions, chapter markers and background music.  The movie seemed to play just fine until I added background music.  Now, when I play the movie everything seems to be working fine except my titiles; all I get is a blank (black) screen.  No words.  I have tried deleting and re-entering the title and words, but it will not play properly when I review the movie.  The titles won't even play in the project browser window.

I figured it out!  I have a fade out transition before and after the title.  If I remover the transition after the title it works properly.  Not sure why the second transition has that effect on the title.  Whatever works...

  • IMovie 6.0.3 (Title/Transitions/FX) Problems

I have been reading lots of similar problems, and I have tried to remedy based upon previous posts. However, nothing seems to have helped when using the latest iMovie. (prefs, privs, etc)
I often receive a black clip when I try to speed up or elongate clip. I do a lot of high school sports editing, and this feature comes in very handy. Unfortunately, this is only one of those that are not usable. Another problem, is that upon importing fullscreen graphics, it converts to movie, and shows up as black.
Is this one of those bugs that came in iMovie HD, and has there been a work around yet? I am a little disheartened at the problems I am now running into these days in iMovie.
Should I consider starting from scratch with this 5 hr import? I wanna make my honeymoon vid/DVD well edited.
At a loss! Thanks for your help!

    Rejam,
Apple once offered something called Plugin Pack 2.2. It was a collection of additional plugins for iMovie.
Some of them are no longer compatible with iMovie HD. Some have been incorporated into the stock set that iMovie now comes with.
Here's the list of plugins from that old Plugin Pack that I think may have issues and/or have been incorporated into iMovie's stock collection.
    EFFECTS
    Circle Transition
    Flash
    Ghost Tails
    Mirror
    NSquare
    Radial Transition
    Wash Transitions
    TITLES
    Subtitles
    Zoom Titles
If you do have any of these they'll likely be in located here:

  • Two title issues

I have two issues related to iMovie HD 6's use of titles:
    1. Why are most titles limited to roughly 4 seconds of "pause" time? I want a 2-line "Centered Title" to fade in in 1 second, pause on the screen for around 6 seconds, and then fade out in 1 second. The closest I can get to this is to have it fade in for 2 seconds, pause for 4 (max available), and fade out for 2. However, this is not what I want. What is the point of having an upper limit on the "pause" time?
    2. My title, when rendered, is being vertically squished. I'm working in a 1080i 16:9 HD project. In the preview and during rendering, the title looks crisp and correct. When it is done rendering, it is vertically squished and looks jagged and awful. Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

I would start by trying the i/o 2 with garageband in another user account to find out if it's a local or global problem.
Then with the alesis plugged in make sure that all your settings in the audio/midi setup utility are correct for the device.
A class compliant device means if they build the interface to a agreed upon spec it will be recognized and be able to use the apple driver (core audio). It did work because you were able to use it and change it's function when making it part of aggregate device.

  • IMovie quits when adding titles

iMovie (9.0.8) quits when adding titles (and sometimes just randomly although it seems to be related to adding titles).
I have repaired permissions and deleted com.apple.iMovieApp.plist from library to no avail.

    Hi
I doubt - BUG - I guess corrupted iMovie pref file (to get this You only need to Force/Panic Halt the program and errors are entered in it)
    See if this helps
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
    • iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
    • Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
    • Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
    • a codec is used that doesn't work
    • problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
    • version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
    • preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
    • other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
    • External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
    • USB-flash-memories do not work
    • Net-work connected hard disks - do not work
    • iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
    • free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
    • external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
    • GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
    • Screen must be set to million-colors
    • Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
    • Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
    • Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
    • Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
    • In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)
    buenrodri wrote
I solved the problem by removing the file: 3ivxVideoCodec.component. after that, up-dated iMovie runs ok.
Last resort: Trash all of iMovie and re-install it

  • URXVT Title issue and keybind issue (backspace, delete, etc.)

    Hi,
    Two questions:
    1) I use zsh. How can I set the title of urxvt to be my current directory?
    2) I'm having an issue in urxvt wih backspacing/deleting/end-of-line/beginning-of-line. What are the proper bindkey's for that?

Here's straight from my ~/.zshrc file
    # This sets the window title to the last run command.
    [[ -t 1 ]] || return
    case $TERM in
    *xterm*|rxvt|(dt|k|E|a)term)
    preexec () {
    print -Pn "\e]2;$1\a"
    screen*)
    preexec () {
    print -Pn "\e\"$1\e\134"
    esac
    # Setting HOME and END keys
    case $TERM in (xterm*|aterm|rxvt)
    bindkey '\e[H' beginning-of-line
    bindkey '\e[F' end-of-line ;;
    esac
The preexec codes actually print out my last command.
So, in order for it to do what you want, you would need to change:
    case $TERM in
    *xterm*|rxvt|(dt|k|E|a)term)
    preexec () {
    print -Pn "\e]2;$1\a"
    to:
    case $TERM in
    *xterm*|rxvt|(dt|k|E|a)term)
    preexec () {
    print -Pn "\e]2;%~\a"
That should do it for ya.

  • IMovie 9.0.7 Title Browser Corrupted

I have reinstalled 9.0.7 using the Apple download; still having the same problem.
The Title Browser in *this* version is corrupted. I have a Mac Pro (2010) 16G RAM.
Title Browser "templates" are mostly greyed out. It is possible to create titles, however it's like the alpha channel is gone, so it takes over video and places a black screen with title visible, rather than keying the title *over* the video.
This applies to *all* Titles templates included with iMovie.
I'm at a loss, and believe this is a bug. Everything else works fine as it always has.
Here is a screen grab of what I'm seeing.

Good News, after a couple of days with Apple Support, I decided to open up Final Cut Pro X to make sure that the above problem wasn't also affecting being able to add titles to my projects in Final Cut Pro X.
As I opened up FCP X, FX Factory came up with a warning about a particular outdated plugin called:  AlphaBlendMode.plugin.
Removed it to the trash, and everything is fine in *both* iMovie and Final Cut Pro X, Title Browsers are restored to normal. Did a number of test projects. Back to normal!
For your reference, for those of you who are using Lion, Mountain Lion, iMovie 9.0.7, and Final Cut Pro X 10.0.5, here is a thread from Creative Cow: http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/344/7518
There is also a more detailed thread from FX Factory/Noise Industries: http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/8/1161026
The second thread has some insight into how this happened. I find it interesting that it affected iMovie as well.
My sincere thanks to Apple Support staff, FX Factory, and your patience.
    Patrick.

  • Notes app "Titles" issue

This has only happened since upgrading to Mountain Lion and the new Notes app. In the Mac Notes app I'm having a frequent issue where I see two notes with the same title (like a note has been duplicated) and it appears that another note has disappeared. But when I click on the "duplicate", the note I thought was missing is displayed - it's just listed under the wrong title. If I Quit and relaunch Notes the problem goes away. Seems like it is related to iCloud syncing but I'm not sure. All of my Notes are in iCloud.

Well, now it's 2015 and the problem is still there.   Previously generated notes' titles are often overwritten by a new note's title.
    Example:
       Note A
       Note B
       Note C
exists.  Then I create Note D, which appears on top because it's newer.  The title for, say, Note A (having recently been used) changes to "Note D" without editing the first line of that note, which still says "Note A".
Killing the app and restarting it makes the titles regenerate to the correct text.

  • Title issue in premiere CS 5.5

I just discover this issue and I would like you to help me.
I'm working on a PAL DV widescreen project. I wanted to use a title for each person on the show so I opened Title - Single Still and I drew a rectangle. So I went to fill it with a gradient (normal 2 color) from red on left to white on right. The white color was set to trasnparent whit transient color to 0.
Well, when I built this with 0° angle (from up to down) the gradient works good and you can see it well on Premiere. If I set it to 270° (from left to right as I need) I can see on video the rectangle only for its 2/3 width on screen. The right side is cutted.
I also tried to make this rectangle in Photoshop and import in the title desktop, well: the same issue. The rectangle made in .psd format with a color gradient and transparent background is shown only for his 2/3 widht on screen. The right side is missing. Tiff format or jpg with white backgroud work good.
I tried to make a new projetc, just to test. The same issue. Rectangle whit a horizontal color gradient cannot be seen entirely.
If I import the .psd file directly in the project, it is shown well, as it is.
Please, I'd like you to try this procedure and tell me if you have the same issue.

That's what I did at the end. But I don't like this issue. If I need a gradient color rectangle I should not use Photoshop and import it but Premiere should be able to draw it.

  • IMovie '09 equivalent "zoom" Title

    Hi there,
I'm wanting to make use of some very simple titles for a movie I'm making, and I'm partial to the iMovie '09 "zoom" title, yet I can't seem to find it in FCP. Do I have to create this title myself? Or is it available and I'm simply overlooking it?
    Thank you so much,
    YahYah

    What version of FCP?
If you have FCS 2 or earlier, there's a bunch of pre-built zoom effects in LiveType.
From LT's Browser: Effects > Zooms.
Easy to make your own though, experiment with the Scale controls in FCP's Motion tab or use the Motion application that came with your copy of FCS.

  • PP 6.0 titler issue

I am having an issue with the Premiere Pro titler.  I create a new still title at 960x720, but when I place it on the timeline, the text size is much larger, and positioning of the text is off from what I set up in the titler window.  Has anyone else had this problem?  I feel sure it's operator error.  Thanks!

When I create the new title, it asked for a size, and the only choice I have for that ratio is the HD Anamorphic 1080, so maybe that's the problem. PP seems to select the size for you based on the sequence settings...
Correct...and logical.  Why would one create a title based on a different size than the target sequence setting.
If for some reason one might need that...create an appropriate  sequence then create a title based on that.

  • IMovie 5.0.2 - titles across screen for entire length of movie?

Is there any way to have a title on screen for the entire length of a movie (vs. the 4.20 seconds or so IMovie allows)?

Posted in wrong forum - sorry.

  • IMovie crashes when browsing Titles, and when exporting movie.

Frequent occurance.  Crashes when browsing Titles. When re-opening it goes to a previous project.
2nd problem, also frequent but always with one project.  I have tried numerous things, all unsuccessful. Have gone back to iPhoto to redo slideshow, have checked photo permissions, then rebuild movie but still unsuccessful.  Message:  "EXC BAD ACCESS (SIGSEGV)".

Sometimes iMovie Projects become corrupted and can cause iMovie to crash. This is what worked for me after months of frustration without any solution.
Copy the iMovie Projects folder to the desktop. To avoid confusion rename this folder Desktop iMovie Projects. Do not delete these projects from the Desktop iMovie Projects folder.
Then delete all projects from the original iMovie Projects folder for iMovie - found Mac HD > Users > (Your home folder) > Movies > iMovie Projects.
Either create a simple test movie project in iMovie or...
or take, from Desktop iMovie Projects folder, one of the projects that you know was successfully exported in the past and copy from the Desktop iMovie Projectsfolder into the original iMovie Projects folder.
    Try launching iMovie again.
In turn take, from Desktop iMovie Projects folder, another of the projects and copy from the Desktop iMovie Projects folder into the original iMovie Projects folder.
Close and restart iMovie. Try to export this project
In transferring one project at a time you can isolate the corrupted project(s)

  • Imovie HD 6 fuzzy titles

    Hello
I have two imovie questions for imovie hd 6
    1. My titles seem to be fuzzy after I add them into a clip is that how they will look after I transfer them or will they be sharper when I transfer to DVD?
    2. I have a 3 minute movie so far, but it took imovie like 20min to save it, is that normal?
    Thank you for your help.
    Ivan

I have heard that with some transitions and effects the titles can become blurry, so if you have any try taking them off. As for the second part, I don't know about saving, but sharing does take a long time.

  • IMovie for iphone 4 audio issues

I'm noticing 2 serious audio issues:
    1) after adding some music from my song library to a clip of my wife talking, I can barely hear her. iMovie is supposed to reduce the volume of the song. Well, it doesn't look like it's doing it properly--the volume of the music is WAY too loud.
    2) when I add a 2nd clip of her talking, the audio on this clip disappears entirely. All I hear is the song. Even after removing the song from the timeline, the audio of the clip is still missing. I can't believe the imovie team never noticed this bug.

I believe when you add a Video clip to a Project that contains a Music track, the Audio for the Video track is muted. Simply enable it via the "Clips Settings".
    Try this:
Double tap the Video Clip to bring up the "Clips Settings" window.
Tap the ON / OFF toggle to turn the Audio ON for your video track.
