IMovie - adding a picture (without black frame below) in the very bottom of a video

Hello iMoviers,
I'd like to add a picture on top of a movie. As far as I understand this can be done by using iMovie's picture-in-picture feature. The picture, however, is centered in a black frame.
1) How can I position the picture on the ver bottom of the video, so that there's no black frame below or let's say the picture is not centered anymore?
2) How can I get rid of the black frames and instead have the video placed below shining through? I saw some green screen approaches, but it seemed to be very  tedious workaround.
Thanks so much for any helpful comments,
mikkolaus

depends on the version of iM you're using:
in older versions, the pic-in-pic was limited: it allowed only to insert content with the same aspect-ratio as the project itself = 16.9 .... if the pic was square, iM added 'borders' to make it fit.
Work-around:
make your pics 16:9 by adding transparency, read this in the UseR Tipp section of this board:
How to create a pointer or a custom title
or, update to latest iMovie10 ....
here, a diff. aspect ratio of pic has no 'borders' -effect; .....

I have bought a Belkin composite cable from the apple store but the picture is black and white? The tv connection does require the red yellow white cables and that is the one I bought? Can any one help

You have the iPhone in your profile, but people's profiles here are often incomplete or very outdated.  It's better to be specific.  And part of the problem is that I can't find any Belkin composite cables for connecting an iPhone to a TV, either on the Apple Store or the Belkin site.  The closest I found is this Belkin video cable, which doesn't specify exactly what kind of connection it is.
For the most relevant assistance, you've got to post in the iPhone forum and specify the cable by providing a link to exactly which cable you're using.

  • Crop and Trim without black frame

    Photoshop CS2:
A screenshot contains an image on a neutral
background. The image is roughly cropped and
then trimmed in order to remove small strips
of the background. As a result the image gets
a black frame with exactly 1 pixel width.
So far I have to remove the frame by reducing
the canvas width and height by 2 pixels each.
    Any better solution ?
An image with gamut warning shows out-of-gamut
    colors by an 'alarm color'.
Is it possible to save the entire image directly,
instead of taking a screenshot ?

  • Pictures Without Black Bars

I'm working in photoshop and creating an image that will fit widescreen format in my imovie perfect. However when ever I bring the image in imovie it gets black bars on each side (left and right) and appears stretched.
    Help?
    Thanks in advance.

There are two ways to avoid the black bars after importing an image to a DV Widescreen iMovie project:
    1. Before importing to iMovie, crop the Photoshop image to a 16:9 aspect ratio; or
    2. In iMovie's Photos tab, increase the zoom so the 4:3 (or other aspect ratio) photo fills the 16:9 iMovie screen on all sides.
When using #1, don't worry about the narrow black edge iMovie displays along the right and left sides of the image; those won't be visible when the iMovie project is exported to iDVD or QuickTime.
If you've created a DV project instead of a DV Widescreen project, try creating the latter. iMovie lets you select the project type when you create a new project. Use the popUp menu at the bottom of the Save File dialog where you assign the project name.
You might also want to try one of the two HDV project types, which are both 16:9. The 720p type may be large enough.

  • Black frame around items on screen

Hi I've got a mac mini which has suddenly started to have black frames appear around icons that are clickable. For example, in Safari, I get a black frame appear around the back button. Or, on the desktop, it appears around the hard disc icon.
I can't see that I have set anything to do this. Can anyone help me to switch this off? I'm new to macs so am not sure where to look.
I do have a screen shot of the problem. Can I post that anywhere?
I've also noticed that under the Apple icon in the menu, I have two of:
    * Restart
    * Shut Down
    * Log off
But the shortcuts on the second items add an extra key.
    Any help would be grateful.
    Thanks

I can't see the black frame in either of your two pictures that I could see. I could not see your "frames.pdf", but here are links for the other two:

  • Media encoder inserts black frame at beginning, when converting my MOV file to H264 for YouTube 720pHD

I'm using Adobe Media Encoder to convert my MOV file to H264, and selecting "YouTube 720pHD" (for Instagram) as I was instructed by someone at Adobe over the phone. But it inserts a black frame at the beginning or end. When I open the converted file on my desktop, the black frame is the first frame. After I upload to Instagram, the black frame is at the end. How can I get rid of the black frame?! Please help!

    Welcome to the furum, Forrest.
Hmmm. I don't recall hearing of that problem. There may not be many users who can offer a solution.
This workaround should work, however: Open the exported movie in QuickTime Player and remove the first frame. (I think it's only the first frame that is black, not the first second. Remove all the black, whatever it is.) Save the movie. That may cause QT Player to save it into a new movie. Use the modified movie for your Web site. QuickTime Pro is required — $30 from Apple.
Note that you've posted in the iMovie 6 forum, not the iMovie HD forum for iMovie 5. There are fewer current iMovie 5 users here. Most were iM5 users, however, so someone might remember this problem.

  • Black frames at the end of an exported file when converting from 60p to 24p

I have another export issue that I can't figure out.
I import footage I shot at 23.98fps (on a JVC HD100) using a Kona LH card at 59.94fps DVCPro HD, in which it has a 2:3 cadence. I need to make files that are actually 23.98p DVCProHD. Unfortunately, when I export in Final Cut from the 59.94 original, the new 23.98 file has all of the image, exported correctly, followed by a number of black frames such that the total number of frames in the exported file equals the number of frames in the original file. That is:
    If the original 59.94 file was 3s long, that is 60 * 3 = 180 frames. The exported 23.98 file also has 180 frames, but only 3s of image = 3 * 24 = 72 frames, followed by 180 - 72 = 108 frames = 4s 12frames of black.
How can I prevent this from happening, and end up with an exported file that is (e.g.) just the 3s of image, and not 7.5s of which 4.5s are black?
It's true that I can manually clip this black off, but I need to do many clips as a batch, and would really not have to change one clip at a time. It is also true that I can do a batch in compressor, and that this process does not suffer this problem -- that is, there is no extra black -- however, there is another problem: the original 59.94 DVCProHD files are actually 1280x720 with square pixels; the files exported from FCP via the KONA DVCProHD codec maintain this true HD proportion, but the ones exprted through compressor (which does not appear to support the KONA LH implementation of DVCProHD as an option) have the size 960x720 with anamorphic pixels, and I would rather keep the original size. Thus, I would rather export from fcp. If anyone has any insight into how I might resolve this....
    Thanks,
    Robert Schaller

Thanks. If I understand you correctly, it does seem to export correctly if I paste the 59.94 clip into a 23.98 sequence (you can't nest sequences that have different time bases) and export from there, and it doesn't even have to specify square pixels, etc.: the AJA codec implementation seems to take care of that. There is no longer any extra black, so, per file, that gives the right result.
That, however, is only one part of the problem, though a significant part. Next is, I really would like to do this as a batch process, as I tend to have many clips to do at one time. As soon as I try any kind of batch export, I end up with one of two problems:
    1) if I try to batch export from fcp, I'm back to having extra black frames, or
    2) if I try to batch export with compressor, I get 960x720 files.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to get the right files in a batch, that would be the next step. Is fcp scriptable? And, if so, can you write a script that takes a clip, pastes it into a blank 23.98 DVCPro timeline, sets the correct in and out points (i.e, in at the beginning and out 1 before the end), exports it with a specified codec and time base, with a name based on the source clip, and then repeats that as needed?
    Thanks for any input --

  • CS4: Adobe Encoder encodes 1280x720 with black frame around it...?

Hi there, ripping my hair out trying to figure this one out :\
I have a few film clips that I shot in 1920x1080 with a Canon T1i and edited in Adobe Premiere CS4. I noticed at first that there were large black vertical bars on either side of the preview window, almost as though the source footage wasn't big enough to fit it, but it seemed to be fine when exporting... however, on exporting, I wind up with a video that is my original footage, in 1280x720, inside a black frame that fills the rest of the 1920x1080 specification. Anybody know a fix for this? I'm just trying to encode the film in 1920x1080 with the editing.
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Nevermind, figured it out
The pixel ratio was in HD Anamorphic 1.33 instead of "square pixels". I'm still getting used to this program, silly thing to overlook
Thanks a million for the help though. Truly appreciated.

  • Black frames on the screen

Please can anybody help me to find a solution to this problem? Since a couple of days black frames appears on the screen, they're the same frames that appear when a text box is selected, but they also appear around icons on the desktop, around the browsers buttons etc. but also randomly in bigger size somewhere in the middle of the screen with nothing in it.
It appears like something which have been clicked even if it's not.
It started apparently with no reason after switching the computer on.

  • Opacity fade leaves black frame when removed

I have been using fades in opacity under a clip's Video Animation option. What has me frustrated is that, if I try to remove the fade by pushing the opacity slider back to the end (or beginning) of a clip, it leaves one black frame. Cutting the frame off is impossible because FCP thinks it's helping me by maintaining my "fade." My solution up to this point has been to reinsert the clip, but that is just too silly for words. Any insight, help or commiserations? Thanks, guys!

What are the specs of the media? What are the project properties? Is the clip retimed?

  • I have a new iMac, and successfully transferred all the music. But I still can't get my iPod to download from iTunes without it losing all of the songs, photos, or tones.

I have transferred all of the songs from the old iMac we own to a new one we just bought. I have already had one problem with the music as in some songs wouldn't play without me using sharing. So I took and old computer off the sharing network and all is well there. But my iPod Touch will not download any music, tones, or pictures without me taking all of the previous items on my iPod Touch. Anyone have any clue what I should do?

Since I am impatient and can't wait for 90 minutes for an answer, I have decided to lose everything on my iPod and try to remember all the songs I had on them. But if anyone can help me prevent this in the future, that woud be great!

  • I have an older version of imovie.  After I change the photos using the Ken Burns effect and save them, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' to change the zoom, the picture appears black and I can't change the zoom?

I have a five year old version of imovie that generally works fine.  However, when I add a photo using the 'Ken Burns' effect then save the movie, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' the picture appears black and I cannot change the zoom.  Any suggestions?

Have you rendered both iOS 7 and iOS 8 (both of which will work on your iPhone 5) out of the question entirely without trying every possible configuration? The animations can be disabled entirely, if that's the problem. And if the whiter-brighter user interface is the problem, there's reverse-contrast modes that darken everything. You can expose accessibility controls to gain immediate access to these functions to toggle them on and off. I guess my point is you may have decided against upgrading the OS based on an early experience with iOS 7 when Apple has since made changes in later revisions to address some of the usability complaints.
Now, Apple's instructions for downloading older versions of apps is to do so from the Purchased list, not from the app's product page.

  • Black frames in imovie

when using imovie hd 06, fairly often i will put in a clip of a jpg and when adding an FX effect to it, the clip will show black. i can clear the effect and the frame will show original form. i don't see a sequence that i am doing that is causing it. would love to get some help with this

My best guess is it might be that the effect is occasionally unable to handle the large frame size of HD. Do you get the same problem with regular 640x480? Since you've found a work-around, you probably just need to use it--I doubt with iMovie '08 out, iMovie '06 is going to have any bugs fixed.

    Hi MyAppleID99,
You may want to check to make sure the clip hasn't been moved back and forth between wide screen and standard aspect ratios; sometimes a combination of letterboxing and pillarboxing can lead to a black frame "windowbox" when playing the final video. You may find the following article helpful:
