IMovie "All Events" folder needs to be deleted.

There is a folder in iMovie named "All Events" and it seems to contain all the video clips I've used in videos, but I have deleted them from my computer and when I skim over the folder I can see screen grabs from the clips, and it shows that it has 35gbts worth of footage which is taking up too much space. how do I get rid of it or clean it out so I can make space and have less lag?

Delete movies, trailers, clips, and events
You can delete unwanted movies, trailers, and clips from an event, and you can delete an entire event in order to free up space on your hard disk.
If you don’t see the Libraries list, click the Show button on the left side of the toolbar.
In the Libraries list, select the event you want to delete, or select the event that contains the items you want to delete.
In the browser, select the movies, trailers, or clips you want to delete.Tip: To select multiple items, hold down the Command key as you click the items you want to select, or drag a selection rectangle around the items.
Choose File > Move to Trash.If a clip you’re deleting is in use anywhere else in your library, the clip is not deleted.
Note: Selecting a clip and pressing Delete marks it as rejected. For more information, see Mark clips as favorite or rejected.

How do you import an iMovie 9 events FOLDER to iMovie 10

I have a backup of only the iMovie events folder from iMovie 9. When I open iMovie 9 it displays perfectly correctly with titles and dates of all events but when I import that folder into iMovie 10 it puts all the events into one event with today's date.
The events folder is currently on an external drive and I want to now put it onto the main computer HDD. At the moment I have an empty iMovie 10, how can I get the videos from iMovie9 to 10?

CS5 Activating loop - What file/folder needs to be deleted?

I freshly installed Mountain Lion on a blank HDD and then installed the CS5 Master Collection from Adobe DVDs.
Everything went fine.
Then I tried to launch AfterEffects and in this moment the whole system freezed and automaticly restarted.
After restart I tried again launcing After Effects and went into the activating process. I've entered my serial, it was confirmed, the dialog closed and nothing else happend.
Whenever I try to launch an Adobe App, I need to enter my serial, the dialog closes and nothing happens.
I have completly deinstalled and re-installed the whole package. But it's the same.
Is there any file in some hidden folder that must be deleted or something like this?
I am on OSX 10.8.5. / Mac Book Pro Mid 2010 i5 4GB

IMovie '08 Events folder structure

I am in the process of importing my old movies into iMovie. These are currently in nice folders by year. This works well as I have quite a few videos and when split by year there are a managable amont.
However I am now realising the iMovie just puts all my events into one big folder called iMovie Events. Is there no way giving this folder some structure? On think I have done is to put the date as the first part of each event's name to at least put them in order in the folder.

im 08 events library already has the structure you are requesting, I suspect that the problem is that the date the content is tagged with when it was created does not follow the same pattern as your yearly structure.

Try to drag an app into folder and then drag it out.
Or reset you iPhone. Hold down Power and Home buttons until Apple logo appears. Release and wait to reboot.

Why can't I delete an event in the All Events window pane in iMovie 10

Hi, I can't delete an event using select event, file, send event to trash can. It says: The operation cannot be completed. The Library must contain at least one Event.
When I hover on the event pane I can see different parts of the clip. I don't want this to be visible as it is a surprise movie for the (nosey) family.
How can I remove it from the All Events list?

If you don't what to see the event connected with your project to show, just create a new blank event and select that. You can't delete the last event in a library.
If you have shared a movie and don't ever want to edit it you can delete the associated event (provided the event is not the only one and doesn't contain clips used in other projects).

You can do this - by not doing it the way You describe as it will not work.
a. the external hard disk - MUST BE - Mac OS extended (hfs) formatted -
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - will work for most things - BUT NOT FOR VIDEO (iMovie, iDVD or FinalCut doesn't matter)
b. Do not alter or move any folder named
• iMovie Event's - or -
• iMovie Project's
on DeskTop/Finder - at all
All moving's of Events and Projects must be done within the iMovie Application - then connections will not break.
(move them back and see if iMovie remembers them - then do move as described above)

Copy a picture to the empty event folder and then delete the photo. The folder will delete with it. Of course you need a picture you are willing to delete. Good luck, it worked for me.

Do you backup your iMovie Events folder?

I don't because it's huge, and I figure, I could always just re-import the original AVCHD footage. For example, my Events folder is 1.1TB and it would cripple my Time Machine backup disk.
I do backup my iMovie and iDVD Projects, however.
A few questions:
- do you back yours up?
- should I?
- if/when I do need to re-import something (maybe need to re-edit a project I did last year), will my iMovie Project be able to find the newly imported events? As long, I guess, as I use the same Event name?

My Events folder spans several external drives.
For the AVCHD events, I just back up the archive file or disk image, but I do not back up the Event.
I have some DV, 8MM, and VHS events, that I would really prefer not to have to capture again, so I back these up.

Note: I do not use Time Machine, but I think it is a great idea to use Time Machine, especially for your Project files. The reason I do not use it is it used to be very slow and crashed a lot. However, I found that this was not the fault of Time Machine at all. I had a failing internal disk drive, so Time Machine could never finish. I will add Time Machine to the mix soon.

Deleting movie files in iMovie Sharing - iTunes -folder

When I share a project to iTunes a movie file is created not only in Music>iTunes>iTunes Music>Movies but also in Movies>iMovie Sharing>iTunes. If I then delete a project, no movie file is deleted. In iTunes I can delete a movie file. But then the movie file in iMovie Sharing>iTunes still exists. Is it ok just to manually (using Finder) delete the movie files in iMovie Sharing>iTunes I don't need any more or is there a logic behind this behaviour I don't understand.

This is because with iTunes you have the option of copying files into the iTunes library, or leaving them where they are. iMovie doesn't have anyway to know which option you're using. All iMovie does is create the file in the "iMovie Sharing" folder then alert iTunes to import it.
Once the import is done, if you have iTunes copying content into the library, you are free to delete them from the sharing folder since they are duplicates.
BTW: You will still have yet another copy contained within the project itself which is used for iLife sharing. Sharing one movie for example, in three sizes, actually puts 9 copies of the movie on your hard drive! Three copies for each of the three sizes. It can add up quickly.

ICal Help Needed! (cannot delete calendars/events on computer and iPhone)

I need some help with my iCal. Background info:
-Currently have an iPhone 3GS
-Using Google Calendar
-Use separate calendar on iPhone (Pocket Informant)
-Wanted to sync all event from Outlook to Google Calendar to iCal to two calendars on phone (this became an issue with alarms so began attempting to delete all events from the original iPhone calendar that I do not want to use)
I started by syncing my Outlook (one way) with my Google Calendar, which syncs with the iCal on computer and Pocket Informant on iPhone, as well as iCal on iPhone. Duplicate alarms started occurring on the phone (PI and iCal). I then attempted to delete all events from the iCal on the computer. One calendar remains, one that I subscribed to from Yahoo Sports. I have tried everything to delete this calendar, but it seems impossible. After I sync the phone, the subscribed calendar shows up as well as birthdays and one calendar from my Google Calendar, on my phone.
So, the issues, and what I would eventually like to see:
1. I would like all events cleared from iCal on computer (currently just subscribed calendar that will not delete)
2. I would like to delete all events from calendar on phone (subscribed calendar, birthdays, and one calendar from Google) *I cannot even delete these events by hand on my phone.
3. In the end I would like to just continue to sync Outlook with Google which syncs with PI and then do nothing with iCal (on phone and computer) *Well really I would like events from Google synced with iCal on computer, but this doesn't seem feasible so I would settle with not using it at all.
The only thing I can think of to do at this point is to delete iCal, but I am not even sure this would correct the calendar issue on my phone as I am unable to delete that and the sync does not seem to be working correctly.
Any help on this would be much appreciated!

The edit feature was working correctly with the calendars and stopped. Performed a sync through iTunes removing syncing preferences first. Did not resolve the issue. I am considering restoring the iphone.

How do permissions work with iMovie Events folder?

I'm using iMovie and have one problem: every time I launch iMovie, the software takes a couple of minutes "optimizing movies."   I read in the forums that a way to solve this problem is to change the permsions of the iMovie Events folder so that everyone has read/write access. This may solve the original problem, but could cause a new problem if i don't understand the implications.
I'm fairly new to Mac. My Mac has three types of users:
me
staff
everyone
We really only have one account on this computer. I think the other ones (staff and everyone) are default accounts.
What are the implications of giving staff and everyone read write access??
Could for example someone on another computer on my home wifi network delete or make changes to those folders and files?
Is there a way to solve my original problem (stop the "optimizing movies" every time i launch iMovie) without giving staff and everyone write access?

You have two options:
1) Add a Class-Path entry for each plug-in directory, not just the plugins.
Class-Path: plugins/myDir plugins/yourDir2) Go ahead and put the plug-ins in separate packages - package handling makes doing plug-ins easier in the long run. Two ways:
package plugins.myDir;    // no Class-Path entry requiredor
package myDir;            // which works with your current Class-Path

In iMovie 10, the events folder with my projects disappeared

In iMovie 10, my projects are listed under "All Projects" but they are no longer found in any events folder within the library, apparently after some glitch. I can still work on a project but can no longer duplicate it (e.g. to save different versions), and I am concerned I will lose the project altogether. When I go into the iMovie library package contents, I can see all the projects in the folder "Updated Projects", but I can't find any way to get iMovie to recreate this folder within the application itself.

The home folder is where all of your personal files are kept.
Best candidates to delete are movies, videos, music and photos since they generally take the most space.
Don't forget to empry the Trash after you delete the file because the space is not returned until the Trash is emptied.
