IMovie and inbuilt camera

I have noticed after uploading a video clip from my video camera IMovie turns on the inbuilt camera and ask if I want to record myself or who ever is sitting in front. How do I turn on this feature on a movie I am working on but have not uploaded a clip ??/ I have looked at IPhoto Booth but !!
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards

Thanks Matthew. I have been retired a few years so find out the answer was so simple shows my age. I will have to make sure my grandson Matthew (Matt) does not hear about it. Thanks again

  • IMovie and Sony camera can connect, but nothing imports

My iMovie and Sony HD camera can connect fine...I can control my camera from imovie, but when i click import, it plays (plays on camera and timer on imovie starts) but the screen remains blue and no video is actually imported.

Did you try Sue's excellent suggestion of the Garage band trick anyway?
Also, try deleting iMovie's preference file...the plist found in YourUserName->Library->preferences->com.apple.iMovieplist. Close iMovie, trash the plist. iMovie will create another one when you launch iMovie again.
Do you have the camcorder plugged directly into your computer's Firewire port? Some camcorders don't work properly if they are connected into another device. And, just to be sure, you do have the camcorder set to VTR, right?

  • IMovie and Canon cameras

    Hi Folks,
I have a new camera (Canon FS22) and foolishly assumed it would "just work" with some version of iMovie. I have access to iMovie HD, iMovie 08 & iMovie 09 but none of them seem to recognize the camera.
I installed the included "CameraWindow" software which the manual says will launch on Mac computers when the camera is connected. But even this doesn't work.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get the video off the camera on to the Mac somehow? I'd happily pay for software (e.g. MPEG-2 Component) if that is required.

    Hi Job2,
I would advise checking out the manual for the model you are thinking of buying. The manual for my model is here: http://support-au.canon.com.au/EN/search?canonsearch=1&lang=EN&category=DigitalVideo+Cameras&series=Home&model=FS22E&menu=Manual
Switch modes means tell the camera that you neither want to take pictures or record video by pressing the button that switches it to data transfer mode then selecting what you want it to connect to - either the optional Canon DVD burner or to a "Printer/PC". If you read the manual *more carefully than me* you will get a better picture of what I mean.
As for the memory card question, I don't know the answer as it is not my preferred method of working. I guess it should work but is not much help if you have recorded to the internal memory. My understanding is that my camera records in MPEG-2 format and there are a number of steps required to get it into iMovie (involving another free program called something like MPEG Streamclip) if it has to be "imported" into iMovie from the File menu rather than dumped from the camera. I'm not sure why this would be when iMovie is capable of importing the same file direct from the camera but that is what I read elsewhere on the forum earlier today.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Grant

  • IMovie and Digital Camera Recording

I was able to use a digital video camera as a passthrough to burn copies of old family film (VHS). I am running OS 10.9 and iMovie 10.0.1 and can't get any recorded video. It says it is recording, but I am not getting any available clips from it. Please help.

The Raw Camera support is not a separate program but is part of the OS. The file is not really all that large in the scheme of things and removing it might impact the operation of your system.
I would strongly suggest you don't do it. It use to be possible to ignore particular updates, not sure if it is still possible given the whole App Store thing.
iMovie is a different story. It is a separate application and removing it will not impact the system.

  • Deleting iMovie and Digital Camera (raw)

I don't do ANY raw digital camera shots or use iMovie.  These two programs seem to draw more updates than anything else in OS X.  I'm wondering if I can delete them and if so, would I lose any thing other than these 2 programs.

It'd be nice if you could help me with my mac's problems so I can start using iMovie and my security camera again. Thank you too all that answer.

  • I am not able to update iPhoto, iMovie and garageband on my macbook pro. these three apps came installed with ilife suite.

I am unable to update iphoto, imovie, and Garageband on my Macbook Pro.  I understand that these apps are part of ilife suite.  Purchased Macbook at Best Buy January 2012.  All software is updated.  I recieve message asking me to sign into account that I purchased these apps from.  I am signed in , however I did not purchase these apps they came on Macbook.  I also tried deleting Garageband and re-installing it. Now Garageband says accept but Macbook will not accept.  Anyone else have this problem and were you able to resolve it.

The fact that they were preinstalled is why they are supposed to appear in the Purchased pane, in a temporary area labeled Purchases, for you to accept. Not doing so soon after you got the Mac has messed this process up.
    To get things back on track properly try these steps;
    Updating Pre-installed iLife apps -
1 - Log out and quit iTunes and the Mac App Store (MAS)
2 - Go to System Prefs/Users & Groups/~user/Password and enter the Apple ID connected to your iTunes/Mac App Store account. Close Sys Prefs
    3 - Delete /Mac HD/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist
    4 - Reboot your Mac
5 - Open Mac App Store
6 - Go to the Purchased pane and Accept the three iLife apps. Enter iTunes/MAS username/password if prompted.

  • How can I connect a Sony DCR-PC110 video camera with iMovie and import my videos?

How can I connect my Sony video camera DCR-PC110 with iMovie in order to import my old videos?

    Hi
This Camera has three types of ports.
    - Analog-out
    - USB
    - I.Link = FireWire = IEEE1394 = Digital in/out = DV-terminal
And Your Camera only can send Photos via the USB-connection - NO VIDEO.
So You Must get a FireWire Cable and eventually a ThunderBolt/FireWire converter Cable to get Import to work.
There are no real way around this.

Not sure what you mean. You can import video into I Movie either via your USB slot if it is already in digital format or via your fire wire slot (you may need an adapter as the MAC slot is a mini slot, the adapters are available on line) if you are coming from tape based media.

  • IMovie, FireWire and unreadable cameras

For those people out there that are getting fed up with iMovie and not reading their cameras... read this! I spent an hour trying to get iMovie to read my camera through FireWire. Tried everything and nothing worked. Read ALL through this forum, looking for a user with Sony DCR-HC26.
So the next night I decide to try again just for kicks.
It worked perfectly fine and downloaded all the content with smoothness and speed.
If anyone has a differing opinion please let me know, but I think that FireWire is just TEMPERAMENTAL!!

It does seem to be the firewire - I, too, spent an hour with the Genius Bar, and an additional 2 hours on the phone with support.
We were able, at the Bar, to get it to download a clip - but just once. We could not duplicate the procedure, and I had no luck with the phone help.
It does seem that, sometimes, if I unplug everything for an hour or more (including the electric power to the computer), that if I connect and start the camera first, then start the computer, then iMovie, I can get it to import from my miniDV Sony. But only once. It may do a full hour, or just a few seconds. Then, it will blue screen the import, and freeze. Looking at Console - From Log Database Inquiries: All Messages: I get---
"3/3/08 7:17:23 AM kernel FireWire (OHCI) Lucent ID 5901 built-in: handleSelfIDInt - nodeID not valid (reset bus and retry 2)

ad infinitum for the next several minutes until I manually shut off the camera.
Sure looks like firewire problem to me. I'd had NO (and still have no) problems with my camera and my older iBook, OS 10.3.9, and iMovie 3.3

I would say that odds are high that you have a bad cable. Maybe that is why they returned it.
I would suggest trying a different firewire cable.
You can find Firewire cables inexpensively at monoprice.com. You need a 4 pin to 9 pin firewire cable.
    Here is a link.

    Other things to check:
Is your camera plugged in to wall power (not to batteries only). Must be hooked to an AC power source to import.

  • IMovie 5.0.2 sees and controls camera but won't display video or sound

OK, my camera used to work with my iMac G4 800 just fine, it's a JVC GR-DVF11U back from the stone age (heh but I am having trouble getting any video or audio on my PB 12" G4 with iMovie 5.02. iMovie will control the camera (play, stop, ff, review) just fine but all I get is a blue screen. I tried a friends (modern) Sony (not sure of the model #)and had the same results so I think it's a problem with iMovie, not the cameras. Anyway, any help ya'll could give would be great Thanks

    Welcome to discussions!
First-if your mac can control the camera but not see the video,
    *Open Garageband
    *Play a note or two
    *Close Garageband
    *Open iMovie
    The camera will work now-REALLY!!
