IMovie and the JVC Everio.

I videoed my friends wedding and have tried to put it together on iMovie. It can see the video, and brings the thumbnails up, when i import the video only 7 out of 15 clips will import. The important ones will not import. It says there is an error but does not elaborate. Anyone got any ideas?

What the sense to make camcorder like that if a part of the people can't use it!?!
... you should ask the people in JVC marketing dept. -
iM5/6 support fw connected/miniDV HiDef camcoders, which store mepg2 on tape... THAT will be automatically converted into something usefull by iMovie...
but your camera is not supported. basta!
there's only that Streamclip workaround.. and other tools:
* DVDxDV, it has a 30d trial period (testdrive sets a watermark)... and cost 25$
* Cinematize >60$
* Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
esp. DVDxDV is recommended for beginners, a typical "one click only" solution.. you can download a free test version.. give it a try....
quality: don't judge pic quality on your Mac, just with the "final" product (DVD/tape... ehm, in your case... no tape, no playback to camera possible...).
it will look "better" on a TV.... <some hope>
ciao!

  • Hey, I have Final Cut Express 4.0.1 and a JVC everio camera, whenever i try to import my files to FCE via "Log and transfer", it just doesn't do anything, as if FCE doesn't know the camera is there, please help !

    Hey,
I have Final Cut Express 4.0.1 and a JVC everio camera.
Whenever i try to import my files to FCE via "Log and transfer", it just doesn't do anything, as if FCE doesn't know the camera is there,
    please help !

FCE 4.0.1 can only capture DV/HDV which is produced by cameras using Mini-DV TAPES and cameras shooting AVCHD which is a high definition format.
If your camera shoots standard definition on Memory Cards, DVDs or Hard Drives it will not work in FCE.
What is your camera's exact model name and number?

  • Is the JVC Everio compatible with my Mac??

I've been researching digital camcorders, and have singled out the JVC Everio GZ-MG330 as the initial first pick. But after moer in-depth research and reading customer reviews, I'm wondering if it's the right choice as I've seen comments regarding an incompatibility with Macs.
We have a 2GHz iMac running OS X 10.4.11, and if this camera isn't going to let me edit and make movies with iMovie, it will not work for us.
The camera will be used for family recording, as well as documenting my son's high school swimming career, and eventually I will want to make a DVD to play during his graduation reception and to provide copies for family. But if it isn't going to work with my Mac, I need to continue looking.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

    Hi Hopalong,
This camcorder should work with iMovie '09. According to the manufacturer this camcorder records video in MPEG-2 format, and according to Apple iMovie '09 it is compatible with MPEG-2 (standard definition), MPEG-4, AVCHD, and H.264 formats. The software that comes with this camcorder is PC software, which is most likely why you have heard that this camcorder is not compatible with Mac computers. If you want to read more about camcorder compatibility with iMovie you can look here. I hope this helps!

  • How do i get .mov files into imovie? using jvc everio - help!

just purchased a jvc everio hard disk camcorder. i thought it would be easy to import the videos into imovie (but i have never used it before). needless to say it won't recognize the format. the formats say .mov & .moi (i think one is video and one is audio? maybe not). is there any way to import these files into imovie version 5??? sorry by the way if this has been answered before. the volume of questions on this forum is staggering. thanks in advance!!!

welcome sneakypablo to the  boards of discussions...
no, iM does NOT support harddisk camcorders (yet), it is meant by concept to work with firewire connected miniDV cameras.. which use "dv" as codec...
.mov is just a container, but I guess, inside is some kind of mpeg...
Apple mpeg2 plugin (29$) + Streamclip (free) allows conversion of mpeg2 into something editable...
final hint: upper right, "search" field .. ;))

  • I was making a movie on iMovie, and the green screen wasn't working.

I was making a movie on iMovie, and was trying to use the green screen to make a split screen. I pressed on the green screen button, but the second clip didn't play next to the first, and only the audio played.  I tried agian with some different clips, and only some of them worked. This hasn't happened before! I was just wondering why this would be happening and what I should do? (I am using iMovie '09)

    Hi
YOU need to - in iMovie - Turn on Advanced Tools !
top row menu - with an Apple top left ---> iMovie ---> down to preferences ---> Here select to turn on Advanced tools .
Now it will work when You drop a clip onto another IN a MOVIE PROJECT ! (can not be done in Event's)
Next problem I had - was to get right clip onto the other - what was the Background and What was the Green screen - BUT just test - You only got two ways to try out.
    Yours Bengt W

It's hard to tell you whether they are compatible until we actually see the specs for the cameras. Perhaps you could point us to the specs pages or give the full name of the model of the cameras?

  • Cant find non the the iphoto, imovie, and the rest of the apps in that category that originally came with my macbook pro

i purchaced my macbook pro a year a go and i had the iphoto, imovie, ilife, iwork. but the other day i mad some upgrades to my macbook, new rams and installed a 2nd SSD hard drive in place of the optical drive. it is used as a boot drive while keeping the HDD for storage. but now i cant find the iphoto, imovie, ilife, iwork. and when i go to the app store in purchased tab i cant find them as well. and when i tried to download them from the featured tab, they are listed for full price?
how can i get my apps back please ??

That would be strange since iv used iphoto. every single time I hooked my iphone to my MBP to download the pic and  that would be couple of time every weekend since i bought the laptop. And iv used Imovie several times to make videos for instagram.
But thank you for your suggestion
FYI: I never had to purchase them I just registered them when I used them for the first time. I know I used to see them all under application file but the Iwork and Ilife never been used before.

  • I unintentionally deleted the first segment of some video.  I was able to get it out of the Trash and into "Finder", but I cannot restore it to iMovie and the original video.  Help!  How do I move the video (now in Finder) back to iMovie?

I deleted (to Trash) a segment of "raw footage" from an iMovie project that I did not want to delete.
I was able to retreive it from the Trash and move it to Finder, but I cannot figure out how to move it back to iMovie.
How do I do this (restore the video segment to the start of the project)?
Or, do I have to load the original video again from the camera?

    @ "Afterimages":
Well, yes, I suppose I could re-import the video.  (LIkely ALL of it, dammit!)
So, unless I'm mistaken that would be the "long way" to resolving this issue.
I was able the take the deleted video out of the Trash and now it's in Finder.  Why can't I simply re-insert it into iMovie where it orginally was?  That would be the simple solution, just "click and drag", or something like that, correct?  Maybe that's impossible?  (In which case, I must ask, "Wouldn't the creators of iMovie have considered this "boo-boo" and done something to remedy it easily?"  I doubt I'm the first vidiot to do this...

  • ZR 100, Imovie and the Imac Intel

I bought my Intel Imac when it first came out this year. I also bought a canon ZR100 with it. Ever since then Imovie will crash when the camera is connected through firewire. It doesn't crash automatically, just randomly.
I have tried archiving and installing and that did not help. I have also removed the generic brand extra RAM that I bought, it still crashed. I have also connected an older canon Ultura camcorder and it still crashed.
Today while at the Apple Store, one of the Mac genius's said that I should do an erase and install. Is this neccessary? Should I try replacing the firewire cable? Does Imovie even support the canon ZR 100?
    Any suggestions would help.

Erase and install is certainly better than archive and install. Do you have an external hard drive you could do a test install of OS X and iMovie before doing the erase and install?
I don't think compatibility should be an issue the Z100 is just a DV camcorder which uses FireWire to transfer DV to the Mac.
Have you got everything up to date? Have you tried the camcorder on another Mac?

  • IMovie and the XA 20

OK, so I know I should get Final Cut Pro if I'm using the XA20, but until then, teach me a bit about using my XA20 with iMovie. I've already figured out the hard way that iMovie won't important 60fps files from the XA20, I just see a bunch of 60 with lined through red circles when I try to import into iMovie.
Any advice for a noob here?

It’s confirmed (at least till now) we can’t import the raw Full HD 60/50p video to iMovie for freely editing. Because 1080 50p and 60p are not standard video formats, they are unsupported by iMovie. iMovie can smoothly edit videos at 1080p 24/25/30, 1080i 50/60, 720p 24/25/30. So we have to change Canon XA201080 60p first. iMovie best supported format and codec is Apple Intermedaite codec MOV format, once you transcode Canon XA20 AVCHD to AIC in 25p/30p , you can play and edit Canon XA20 AVCHD in iMovie smoothly.

Imovie will not, or least I have not figured out how, to recognise a CD's as the source to import. this is Not to be meant to be completely computer Illiterate but I would appreciate how one does it?

  • .TOD files when pulling from the JVC Everio HD Camera

    Hey,
I used to be able to plug my camera in and pull these files directly onto my computer from the camera, but now, QT isn't letting me. I think it has something to do with me upgrading to the new version. The error message that I'm getting when I try to do this says:
"the movie contains an incorrect duration"
Does anyone know why it would be saying this? I'm considering downgrading to QT 7.3 but I know that when I do it will screw up my QT Pro that I already have.
Any information anyone could share on downgrading to a previous version or in handling .TOD files would be helpful.
    Thank you!
    Kirk

Hi Kirk and welcome to the forums!
As you will from the many thread in this forum about the same issue, it is a question of the camera manufacturer not updating their software to fit Quicktime 7.4.
Apparently they are in the process of doing so.

  • Importing .MOD and .MOI files to iMovie - from JVC EverioS GZ-MS100

I'm desperate in finding a solution on the problems I have with importing .MOI and .MOD files to iMovie from a JVC EverioS GZ-MS100.
I have looked up all advices I can, also on this forum... But nothing seems to work for me at all!
PLEASE someone tell me asap how I can get my videos to iMovie so I can start editing my videos...
Thank you so much in advance!!
    I have iMovie '09 version 8.0.6 (821).

The Zi6 is not on the compatibilty list however I based my knowledge on this review at macworld.com
    http://www.macworld.com/article/135948/2008/10/kodakzi6.html
"To copy your captured content to the Mac, flip out the USB connector, switch on the camera, and jack it into a free USB 2.0 port. If you have the latest version of iPhoto, it launches and offers to import the separate video and image files. If you don’t have the most recent version of iPhoto, you’re welcome to import files into iMovie ‘08 with the File: Import Movie command, or into iMovie HD via the File: Import command. Each command produces an Import navigation window, where you can locate the movies on the attached camera (within the DCIM folder).
The Zi6’s movies are encoded in the H.264 format; as a result, there’s no need to install another codec to use them as you would for movies recorded with the Flip cameras, because H.264 is natively supported by QuickTime (and therefore iMovie and Final Cut Pro). Audio is recorded in the AAC format at 48 Kbps."
So this suggests iMovie 08 will accept the file format the Zi6 porduces. I will attempt file conversion before I loose iMovie 06 though.
