IMovie Can't Find Moved Projects

I am trying to move all of my iMovie Files (events folder and projects folder) from an external drive to my internal drive. I have moved the event files successfully from within iMovie. But I don't know how to move the project files. I tried moving them manually, but now iMovie doesn't see the projects anymore.

How did you move the projects folder to an external drive in the first place, if it was with the use of a symlink then you should be able to copy your projects folder back to its default location (in your movies folder) and delete the symlink.

  • Moved iTunes Media folder, now iMovie can't find it

I moved my iTunes media folder in order to share it between two users on the same iMac, following these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
That worked fine, but now iMovie can't find the iTunes media library. I don't see a way to change this setting in iMovie, the way that you can in iTunes. There must be a simple solution to point iMovie to the new location, but if so I am missing it. Can anyone advise?

I am attempting to update from iMovie 9 to iMovie 10. I have many movies with iMovie 9. Yet, on iMovie 10, when I press "update projects and events", it states "iMovie could not find any projects or events to update". Somehow it doesnt' see all the movies I have on iMovie 9 library.  What do I do?

I'm dealing with this same issue. At one point, it did recognize the Update function but then said it could not import the cache.mov and plist files which apparently means that imovie 10 can't see any of these past events. I can't figure it out.

In which table can I find a project (CMOD)and enhancement (SMOD)??
or else please suggest to me how I can find the project assigned to a enhancement?

    Shashank,
It looks like table MODACT makes the link between the project and the contained enhancements.

I started editing my project in Final Cut Pro trial, then purchased the full app. Now I can't find my project. What gives?

Did you by any chance move the Events and/or Projects folders? Are they on an exteranl hard drive and it is now not plugged in?

  • IMovie can't find events now moved to a new internal drive

I installed a second 1Tbit drive and moved my photos, movies, music and documents from the primary drive to the new drive. I also created alias's for each of these folders.
Although iTunes didn't care about the alias, and Aperture reset it's file location automatically as well - the media browser had a problem. I have the new version of iLife but had not yet opened iPhoto - but when I did it rebuilt it's library and then showed up. Deleting the alias for the photo folder entirely let Aperture show up - but iMovie is whacked. I can see only one simple short event that I had opened immediately after installing iLife - even though this event is no longer on the main drive, it's over on the second drive and "Show in Finder" clearly showed it in the new location.
But all the other events and video files are not visible. I can see them in Finder, and if I click on them I get to see them play just fine. But attempts to import them return an error
    Copy Failed
This file could not be copied:
    /Volumes/RR-2nd TB/y User Files/Movies/iMovie Projects.localized/Teah ISR Second Year - Larg.m4v
    (File not Found)
But the file is most certainly there and the file opens just fine if I click on it. As the alias for the folder seemed to be an issue for Photos, but once deleted Media Browser could indeed see the Aperture library, I have also deleted the alias file for iMovie - no improvement.
I have deleted and let recreate the preferences file - but this only removed the one file I could see.
Both drives are Mac OS Extended (Jorunaled) - and both report no errors.
Trying this and that, iMovie has created a new folder for iMovie Events on the second drive, and if I move things into this they suddenly appear - but not my projects.
I can certainly move the Movie folder back to the main drive, but the intent was to free up space on that drive, and to increase performance by having the application on one drive and the user data on another.
I can't be the only person to ever move the Movie folder - but I can't find any current and helpful info on the matter. I do see that a few others have recently expereinced some issues with external drives and iMovie - might be a similar issue.

You can move Projects and Events to and external drive, but you must move them from within iMovie. If you move them using the Finder, it will make the projects unusable.
I would recommend that you move all projects and events back to your original drive.
Then open iMovie and verify that all is well.
Now, click View/Events by Disk, and you should see your new drive in the Events List on the left.
To move an event, hold the command key while dragging the icon for the event to the icon for the disk in the iMovie Event List.
To move a project, hold down the command key while dragging the Project icon to the icon for the new drive in the Project List.
Doing it this way will preserve the links between your Projects and your Events.

  • Premiere Elements 9 can't find moved videos?  How to move projects?

I have a customer with an almost full hard drive, with almost 100GB of Premiere Elements stuff.  I copied the videos (.mts) to an external drive but the project can't find them there.  I can open a project and go to Get Media, and if I browse to C:\My Documents\My Videos (the original location), I can get the video.  If I browse to the new location (E:\My Videos), I can see the video but double clicking it does nothing.
I have looked in all the preferences in the Organizer and the Project and I can't find the path "C:\My Documents\My Videos" anywhere, so I can't change it to the new location.  Projects can find them in "C:\My Documents\My Videos" even though the current path to videos is shown as "C:\My Documents\My Pictures".  How do I do this?
A second question:  How do I move projects to the new location?  Most of the answers I have found are for Elements 4 or so.  If it's obvious and is answered in another location, a link would be great.
    Lew

To move a project to a new location -- such as to an external drive -- use the Project Archiver, under the File menu.
This will copy not only the project file but also all of the connected media files associated with a project without losing the links. You can then delete the original project and media files from the C drive.
Otherwise, you'll need to open each project and manually locate the links to the media clips -- which is no fun. (Although, if the clips are all in the same folder on your drive, if you connect one clip, the program will recognize the others and automatically re-connect all of the clips for that project.)

  • IMovie Can't Find Movie File Location

I had to reinstall the OS and all software on my MacBook Pro and after I imported the Movie files back into iPhoto, iMovie can no longer find the movie files for the projects. When I open an iMovie project, there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it. How can I tweak the iMovie project file to point to the movies in the new location?

It is not the easiest thing to do, but it is possible.
Please make a backup copy of the project file before attempting brain surgery.
An imovie project file (with extension .rcproject) is a package. Right click on your Project file in the Movies/iMovie Projects folder. Select Show Package Contents.
There should be a text file in there called Project.
It will be in hexadecimal, so you need a hex-capable text editor to read it.
I would suggest BBEdit (best but $$$) or PListEditPro (free from Apple).
In this file, you may be able to see the paths and filenames for the clips used in the project.
This is where iMovie expects to find the clips.
The least risky thing to do is to move them to where iMovie thinks they should be, with the right names. However, this may impact iPhoto if you are changing the iPhoto library without telling iPHoto.
So, alternatively, you could edit the file with the new paths and or file names.

  • Imovie Can't Find Music

    Hey Everyone,
Been working on a rather long video with about 5 music files added as background. It worked fine all day, I closed it to make dinner, come back after dinner and imovie "*The song "___" could not be used because the original file could not be located.*"
Let me reitterate - NOTHING changed from before dinner to after dinner other than 1) I exported a copy of what I had finished, 2) the computer has been restarted.
I've restarted Imovie, restarted the computer, powered completely down, NOTHING allows me to use any music file to be used as part of the project in imovie.
Now I can't play the music that was apart of the project, nor can I put new ones in. Itunes can play all these files, imovie can't.
    Anyone have any suggestions?!

  • IMovie can't find orginal file/source....

I transfered a number of files that contained clips and sound bites that are being used in my projects in iMovie, but after I'd transfered those files into an external hard drive, I wasn't able to use those clips in iMovie, it showed "!" and stated iMovie couldn't find the orginal file or source. So with the files in my external Hard Drive, how can I put those files back so that they go right back into place where they were orginally placed, to proceed in completing my project in iMovie?
    Thanks.

It does sound like you're talking about the Mac version of iMovie (not the iOS version, which is the focus of this discussion area).  You may have better luck posting this question at the following area...

  • All of a sudden iMovie can't find half my clips in this proj...?

I sit down yesterday morning and start making a new movie in iMovie 10.0.1. I get about six minutes done, using maybe 15 clips. I quit iMovie and come back this morning to continue, but now it can't find half the clips in the project that worked just fine YESTERDAY. I am pulling the clips from different events in my iPhoto library. I have deleted nothing from there and have not edited these libraries in any way since I last worked on the project, yesterday.

What could the issue be? All drives are attached, etc. Very frustrating.

  • IMovie can't find iTunes songs

    Hi there,
updated to Lion (which was not wise given the time I have to spend in forums now)
ha among other things the effect that my iMac can't connect to the remote drive (Buffalo Link Station another forum in another company), so I took the back-up disk connect via USB and voila iTunes finds all songs.
Problem is: As soon as I try to access the songs via iMovie, error message comes that file cannot be found.
Yes I have installed all the latest updates for iMovie and iTunes.
Anybody have an idea how I can make iMovie look after the music in the NEW location/disk?

Helped myself. I deleted the iTunes Library.xml in the iTunes folder file which did 80% of the job. iMOvie would then find most of the songs, however still not all.

  • Update 10.1: Can't find my projects after updating

Hi, I updated all of my media/projects to 10.1 (By having it search the drive for old media/projects)--and I have access to my events/clips in the new FCPX library system (including from my external HD), but I can't find any of my old projects... it's as if they weren't updated to the Library system or something. Even when I try to manually locate and update the project files, final cut says that it cannot find any projects to update... meaning the projects are updated? Then why don't they show up in my library?
Thank you for any help you can offer

Lamothe - I seem to be getting closer on this:  I created a new "Final Cut Events" and "Final Cut Projects" folders and placed just one corresponding folder in each (one project/event, respectively), then selected "update all" and FCPX did update THAT event.  The trouble is NONE of the original files linked so now I am struggling through that process.  For years now I have used Aperture to store and organize my project files (stills & video clips) but, at least at the moment, FCPX doesn't seem to want to look at Aperture and so I am having significant difficulty with relinking my files....but at least I'm getting closer.  I may just transfer all the files from Aperture into the corresponding event or project folder and see if that helps....
Also, I don't think it's a good practice to have your media files on your main boot drive if in fact your "Macintosh HD" is the boot drive.  FCPX will function much better with the addition of a second drive, either internal or external.  Best of luck to you.

  • IMovie - can't find

    Macbook Pro
Mountain Lion 10.8 (upgraded from Lion just a few weeks ago)
When I look in my application list I can't find iMovie and am told it is a standard install app. I have done a search and it is nowhere to be found.
I don't want to pay $15 for it. Is there a way to get it back without doing something that will mess up my computer? I always seem to mess something up with reinstalls and all that.
    Thanks, Teri

Lion is there and Mountail Lion, but not iMovie specifically. Is it a part of one of those apps?
