IMovie can't see my Aperture videos.

I imported a bunch of Canon 5D Mark II videos into aperture, launched iMovie and clicked on the 'Aperture library' entry. It only sees a few iPhone videos from last year, nothing new.
I am forced to 'import' moving into iMovie by copying or moving them.
Am I not able to have aperture manage the movie files while I use them in iMovie?
What about Final Cut Express, if I buy that?

Hi. May I join this discussion? I posted a few days ago regarding not being able to see my movie in the "Preview Window" of iMovie, after creating a project and event. I had just erased my hard drive, installed a new system directly from SnowLeopard and added iMovie09 (then updated it to v. 8.0.6). Before opening and importing photos to iPhoto, however, I downloaded a DEMO VERSION OF APERTURE, to see if I wanted to purchase that instead of using iPhoto. Next I opened iMovie and imported some photos from Aperture. Everything worked fine. After a few days of working with Aperture I decided to delete it and use iPhoto09. Here's where the problems started. I could bring photos into iMovie from iPhoto but when I tired to make them run as a movie, nothing appeared in the Preview window. I've made dozens of iMovies before, so I expected it to work as it always had.
I deleted everything I could find about Aperture, even the Library/Cache of Aperture. I deleted everything I could find about iMovie even the Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie08. I reinstalled iPhoto09 and iMovie09. I've emptied the iPhoto libraries and started over there too with photos only, no video even, but I still can't bring in even a simple photo and have it appear in the Preview window of iMovie.
Do any of you know if there are any other files I might need to delete or how I can reset some things to make simple old iPhoto work with iMovie without the ghosts of Aperture interferring? There must be a bug somewhere. Is there an uninstall for Aperture?

IMovie can't see videos in iPhoto

Hi Folks,
I'm a brand new Mac user (3 days) so please go very easy on me!!
I have searched using google and tried a few things so far as I know it's better to only come to forums as a last resort as most of the answers are already out there....Well I can't seem to find the answer to the question I have and would be very grateful if any of you seasoned folks could shed some light on a small issue I have...
iPhoto has all my videos and photos which were taken using an iPod 4 and an iPhone 4. I can see all the videos and photos perfectly in iPhoto and they all play perfectly.
iMovie is able to see the videos that have been imported to iPhoto that were taken on the iPod. Any videos that have been taken on the iPhone it can't see.
It isn't an compatability issue as if I export a video from iPhoto to my desktop and then manually load that into iMovie, the video plays.
I'm stumped......I have loads of videos swashing around my iPhoto account that I'm desperate to see and edit in iMovie, but it has only given me a fraction of those videos and they were all recorded on the iPod....
It's as if iMovie isn't able to see the iPhoto database and read all the videos. Should it be able to see the videos in iPhoto? (the drop down menu in iMovie suggests it should)
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Unfortunately I think this happens a lot to people and there's not a simple fix. As you discovered there is a workaround (export from iPhoto to the desktop, import into iMovie directly). But once the connection to iPhoto Videos in the Event Folder stops working, I haven't seen anyone write back to the group yet with a fix.
One thing I've suggested but doesn't seem to fix it is to try and repair the iPhoto Library. You can engage this function by holding down ⌘ Command key + Option key, then launch iPhoto.
Try different options, select different ones and let it run. Maybe try the permissions first? Maybe choose to rebuild all thumbnails? Then quit iPhoto and launch iMovie again and see if iPhoto Videos works in the Event Library.

I could not find a website issues community and this one was the closest I could find. If this needs to be moved to a different community, please do so.
I realize it's cross platforms, but web browsing should be the same for everyone, no matter what device is used.
I can watch Apple website videos just fine on Windows/Chrome browser (or IE, Firefox) but can't on Samsung Android/Chrome browser (also tried Firefox, Opera, Samsung browser).
Other websites embedded videos are working (i.e. youtube, vimeo, forums etc.) so far it is only the Apple website embedded videos that are not working.
Any idea why?

I can't see my iPhoto videos in iMovie events library. Help!!!

I just purchased the new MacBook Pro with retnia display. I imported my 2011 and 2012 iphoto files into the pictures folder. When I open the 2012 file and goto imovie I see all my video's. If I reopen iphoto and direct it to 2011, when I open imovie it acts as if there is nothing to display for video. I have recreated the 2011 iphoto file from backup drives and NOTHING seems to work. What could be going on? Is this fixable?

Hi Tom, Thank you for your reply. Please forgive my ignorance. I did try to find the answer here but I am new at this. Could you direct me to that thread please? Yes the external hard drive is used for time machine and I did see something at one time regarding an issue but evidently it didnt sink in or stick. The drive is a g-raid I have had for several years used on a macbook pro but now I have a new imac and fcpx. works fine with all other apps, when the drive came out of the box it said preformatted and just ran with it.

Imovie hangs on opening at Aperture videos.

I am still using iMovie 9.09 because the new version (10) does not sort videos by date. It hangs on opening however every time it gets to aperture videos regardless of the fact that I don't have any in there. It also won't even let me force quit! Help!!

Yeah Me too. However I got there in a strange way. I was recording one more(thin mint) voice over and when I finished ( 6 seconds) the little beach ball from **** came on and kept kicking sand in my face for 4 hours before i realized i got eaten by the imovie shark.
I called the genious bar to set up an appointment and basically found no geniuses willing to belly up to the bar ( 2 stores). I then called appl care and what it finally came down to is messing around inside the package files eliminating one additional event at a time and seeing if i can even get imovie to open up that project again.
One thing Imovie should have that I have commended Microsoft on for years is the "backup to here every 5 minutes". What would be better is back up rotationally up to 20 copies. At any rate I am stuck with the beach ball as booby prize. THat one project will not open up.
Does anyone havea succinct and comprehensive understanding of the way imovie projects are structured on disk? I am working now at the level of opening up the project properties list and poking around the arcane maundering in there ensuring all of the relevant pieces are pointing to files that exist. Other than nothing -- Apple has been of little help in doing the following
1 Telling me which files i can safely delete and which should regenerate from first causes
2 Telling me what all the various files do and what they should look like ( yeah i know its an apple just poke the do what i mean button)
3 Explaining to me why I can see every clip that goes into that movie, but why I movie wont let me frankenstein it together with some kind of imovie property editor.
4 Concisely providing a layout and explanation of the structure of an imovie project ( Oh yeah i remember - Those arent the files im looking for -- move along ...)

I have always been able to see them and the aperture videos. Is there a settting that I accidently turned off? I still can see the apeture videos.

I had this problem.
Check that you are signed into icloud (see system preferences/ icloud) and itunes with the same account (I am not sure itunes really matters).
Then you need to be signed into icloud on your device using the same user name/ password. It worked for me.
I have ended up with two accounts and there's nothing I can do about it now. get them muddled and it wont sync.
I totally forgot how many places I have to be signed in. I wasn't finding much help on these boards but it did set me investigating my settings.

ISight, other person CAN listen but CAN'T see me on Video-Conference online

My iSight is recognized by Skype, iChat, etc..
But not by Wengomeeting Video-Conference (free chatting online with NO applications and NO downloads).
The other person can hear me but can NOT see me.
The other person is using a PC.
Can anyone help??

As discussed in Email, wengomeeting and MeBeam this is a Web based Site that uses Flash.
This means somewhere there is a setting (or in the case of Mebeam an Automatic pop up) of the Control for allowing your camera to be used by the Web browser.
Part of this is setting it to the spec for your camera

Close Captions can't see audio from video file

Trying to close caption a video file using Slide Notes in Captivate 5. Inserted Video via Insert>Slide Video, added notes via Slide Notes and checked off cc box. When I go to Audio dialog (Audio > Record > to Slide), my notes show up only as notes, the captions tab is empty. No audio is displayed for the slide (because it is expecting me to record or import some audio).
From what I've read, this audio dialog box is where I synch my slide notes as captions, but I can't see any audio or video synch reference at all -- even duration / frame count would work.
Do I need to import a separate mp3 version of the movie to synch to?
Any suggestions?

I figured it out - typical obvious error on my part. If I'm captioning a MOVIE, I need to adjust the timing via the Video tab, not the audio tab.

It's fine when I invite a person to chat or when a person invites me but when it's more than 2 people chatting, i can't see the others... I can only see the first one...

First set the Quicktime settings, goto sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed set what you get from your ISP go no higher then 1.5mbps(dont use automatic)
In ichats prefs click on video and change bandwidth limit to NONE.
Restart iChat.

PS Vita + Skype - can't see my own video

I have installed the 1.50 Skype app on my PS Vita. Now I have made a Skype video call to another PS Vita and I can't see my own picture/video in the upper right corner. The camera seems to work, because the other person can see me. It doesn't matter, if I use the front or the back camera. The other person have the same client version.
Is there a option, where I can switch on this picture? Or is this a well-known bug?
