IMovie cannot find iPhoto

When I opened iMovie 6 this last time and I clicked on the "photo" tab within the "media" library there is nothing there. Usually there are my iPhoto libraries and a bunch of thumbnails. This time there is just a message that reads: "Open iPhoto2 or later or Aperture1.5 or later to see photos from your iPhoto or Aperture library in this list."
I have opened iPhoto and nothing happens. Nor can I drag photos from iPhoto to iMovie. I posted this question in the iMovie forum and I followed all the steps offered to me. Unfortunately the problem still exists and I am getting extremely frustrated. Is it possible it is a iPhoto problem instead?
Please help! I need this fixed for a Christmas present I have been planning all year! (I've been taking photos and movies of my nephew with plans of making a movie of his first year and now I am desperate!)

This problem is often caused because the albumdata.xml file (in your iPhoto Library Folder) is not working correctly. This is the file the other apps read to integrate with iPhoto.
Some possible causes:
1. Using non-ascii characters in your Album Names or Keywords

  • New iMovie cannot find iPhoto Pictures

Hello Community! After the update to the new iMovie, all pictures in my project mediathek are gone. He keeps telling me that he can't find the file path. In the old iMovie it still works. I imported the pictures from my iphoto mediathek. Any ideas ? All my projects are heavily damaged! :-(

If I were you, I would continue to edit existing projects in the old iMovie, and only use the new iMovie for creating new projects.
Events come over to the new iMovie really easily but lots of people are having problems bringing Projects over.

  • Imovie cannot find songs in itunes

Imovie cannot find songs in itunes

You need to create a play list of songs that you would use for movies - mine is called Music for Movies.  Then when you click on the music icon (the first box in the line of 5 in the grey bar across the lower third of the screen) and a drop down menu will appear showing all your play lists.  Then simply drag and drop, but make sure that you hover over the video clip that you want to add the music to.  If you don't the music will be added to the start of your presentation.  You can always move the position afterwards. NOTE - if you want to add to your play list do it before you start your video editing as the list does not always update when I Movie.

  • Moved Itunes library now imovie cannot find the audio in my project

I just moved itunes library from my external drive to an internal drive on my Mac laptop. Now iMovie cannot find the music tracks for my project. How do I tell iMovie where to look for the new location of iTunes library

I'm the same as you with this one.
I had to move my itunes library to a new hard drive because it was taking up too much space. Now my imovie projects can't find my itunes library. One sound track when I right clicked in imovie I had the option to find media so I just located the same file but in a new location. This, however, doesn't work for all audio in my many projects.
I'm feeling very disheartened with the whole thing.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • IMovie cannot find my 13 files

I uploaded 13 segments of video I shot this weekend into iMovie under a title, but when I click the title, the folder is empty. iMovie erased the movies from my desktop so I can't get to them.
    Where are they in iMovie?
    Thanks.

I'm having the same problem... and I have not moved any of my files.  So the fact iTunes cannot find songs that it had previously played makes no sense to me.

  • IMovie - cannot find different themes as shown in ap store

My daughter has been wanting this ap forever. Finally she downloads it but she cannot find all the themes that it shows in the ap store description. We have gone under settings after creating a project, but can only find themese like CNN, travel, etc.  Does anyone know how we can find these themesÉ

Yes it is compatible, but there is that rider at the bottom of the full description for the app, as I quoted above. It is very confusing!
The app I have on my iPhone doesn't have the full capability as the app for an iPad (Pad as distinct from Pod). For example, the iPad version has waveforms for the audio track. This enables editing of soundtracks, such as fades and volume adjustments within the track.
So, there are several "varieties" or "flavours" of iMovie for iOS, depending on which device you are using.

  • I cannot find iPhoto on my new macbook pro

Where can I find iPhoto on my new macbook pro?

iLife apps don't come preinstalled on new computers. Now, open App Store > Updates and accept iMovie, iPhoto and GarageBand, so they'll be registered to your Apple ID and you'll be able to download them whenever you want

  • IMovie cannot import iPhoto at all

I'm unable to import any iPhoto content at all into iMovie.  I'm running iMovie 11 (9.0.4) and iPhoto 11 (9.0.5) on an iMac running OS X 10.7.1.  The basic problem is that iMovie is not able to load iPhoto content into the photo panel.  It just hangs, seemingly waiting to access a server it can't access and I don't want it to access.  Here's the sequence, which 100% reproducable:
Neither iMovie nor iPhoto are running.
Delete the file com.apple.iApps.plist from /Users/<user>/Library/Preferences.
Open iPhoto.  No problems, no matter how many times I start and stop iPhoto.
iPhoto has re-created the file com.apple.iApps.plist.  Delete it.
Open iMovie.  No problems, no matter how many times I start and stop iMovie.
The file com.apple.iApps.plist has not been created.
Click on Show Photo Browser.  iMovie says "Open iPhoto to see photos from your iPhoto Library in this list."
Launch iPhoto.  The file com.apple.iApps.plist has been created.
After about 30 seconds a dialogue pops up with the title 'There was a problem connecting to the server “gigadrive”.' with the text "The version of the serer you are trying to connect to is not supported.  Please contact..." etc.  "gigadrive" is a Linksys Gigadrive NAS that apparently doesn't support the DHCAST128 authentication method in Lion.  Fair enough.  But the Windows boxes on my home network do use it, so I can't just get rid of it even if I wanted to.  This dialog box never stops popping up no matter how many times I dismiss it, which is infuriating.  I can simply shove the dialog down into a corner w/o dismissing it and that at least stops the irritating behavior.
    Exit and iPhoto and iMovie.
    Relaunch iMovie.
Within a couple of seconds that damned dialog box starts up.
Click on Show Photo Browser.  The Photos panel spins forever, never loading photos and never erroring out.
No other apps bring up that server error dialog.  The problem appears to be centered around the file com.apple.iApps.plist, which does not contain any reference to gigadrive.
I just want iLife to stop trying to access the gigadrive server.  What can I do?
    -Russ

I finally found a solution for my issue.  The basic problem is that I had created an iPhoto slideshow using photos that were on the NAS and hadn't elected to copy them into iPhoto.  So I iPhoto was loaded with photo references that it could not resolve because it could not access the drive.  This took two steps:
I got rid of the slideshow.  Since clicking on it caused the pinwheel of death, locking iPhoto, I followed this solution
Get rid of the photo references.  I used the Rebuild Library feature of iPhoto Library Manager.  This app has the smarts (that iPhoto lacks) to ignore references to non-existant photos.  After it ran for about an hour it told me there were 140 photos is could not resolve and pointed me to the OS X console which listed the "lost" photos.  I renamed the rebuilt library to the iPhoto norm.
Now iMovie starts up with no problem and I can once again access iPhoto photos from iMovie.
Apple really needs to address this problem.  I've found lots of references to it.

  • IMovie cannot find vidoes in iPhoto since iOS6 update.  It doesn't recognize any videos and all were taken with iPad camera.

I recently updated my iPad to iOS 6.  It also updated many of my apps including iMovie.  After the update when I opened iMovie, I got an error message saying videos in the project couldn't be located.  It then asks if I would like to search for them, which I click yes and then I just get a message that an error occurred.  I have even tried to add new videos to this project or a new project and it won't recognize any videos on my iPad, or pictures for that matter.  It does find music.  All the pictures and videos on my iPad were taken with the iPad camera, no other camera or app.

  • Drag and Drop not working/MSN display picture cannot find Iphoto

I had the ilife '06 and I was able to drag a photo from (lets say) facebook and drop it into iphoto. I am unable to do this in the ilife '09 version. In addition, when I try to change my display picture in msn i cannot click on iphoto only photobooth is highlighted, please help!!!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
I was able to drag a photo from (lets say) facebook and drop it into iphoto. I am unable to do this in the ilife '09 version.
What browser are you using? Safari? If so, right click on the pic and choose 'Add to iPhoto.
In addition, when I try to change my display picture in msn i cannot click on iphoto
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • IMovie cannot find the video files (external hard drive) but they are in the project?

As the integrated hard drive on my iMac is getting too small, I moved all my iPhoto files to an external hard drive.
I made a movie after this change and it worked perfect until I should finish the movie. Here I get the message the the media files are missing.
This is strange as I can watch the movie in the project in the iMovie library.
I cannot finish the move nor share it.
    Can somebody help me?
My imovie is version 10.0.3 and I am running Maverick.
    Thanks!

Can you give me the info I wasked for in the other thread?

  • Apple tv cannot find iphoto

Before I could find on apple tv Iphoto. Now it sees iphoto but there is no library.
When i open iTunes an open the files 'to share' I see Iphoto but there are no photo's found.
I have more then 20.000 photo's. I can also see and choose 'albums' but the number is everytime '0'.
On Apple tv I also see no library, although 'photo's' can be choosen.
I do not understand the problem. All computer and apple tv are up to date.
    please help.
    J. Aalbers

    Sorry, my mistake.
The file is actually called 'com.apple.itunes.plist' (not prefs)
The path to it is - your Home Folder/Library/Preferences. In fact you will find 3 preference files for iTunes in this folder-
    com.apple.itunes.plist
    com.apple.itunes.eq..plist
    com.apple.itunesHelper.plist
If you delete all 3 iTunes will create fresh copies, but you will loose settings in iTunes, which is a shame if it turns out not to be the problem. So I would suggest making copies first (to an external drive - idisk - or to the desktop) That way you can put them back in the preference folder and get your settings back.
If you still have no joy, try Tiger Cache Cleaner to clean out your caches, it's not free, but you will be able to run it without having to buy it. Read the help menu - especially the bit about cache cleaning and rebuilding prebindings.
You can get it here - http://www.northernsoftworks.com/tigercachecleaner.html
    Don't give up!

  • IMovie cannot find clip!? HELP!

Hi, I have been posting lots of questions lately, as my MacBook is giving me tons of very annoying and frusterating problems. I always seem to have trouble with iMovie though...
Anyways, I need to use iMovie, like I always do, and every single time I open it up, this comes up:
I have tried everything (even fooling iMovie into thinking it is accepting a file, which is really empty and is just named after the original clip) to make this go away, but like usual, nothing works! How can I make this go away? I have tried restarting the computer and force quitting iMovie, but this message still keeps on popping up! It is EXTREMELY frusterating because it won't even let me get access to my projects (which are also pretty much empty thanks to my klutzy move, check out my other questions please!!) and I need them pronto! Thank you so much! I hope somebody will actually (for once in their lives) take the time out of their day to help this clumsy girl. I never get any help or answers, and it really gets me mad! Thank you, and hopefully I'm not talking to air!!

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use iMovie. There's an iMovie Support Community where everybody uses iMovie. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer. https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/imovie

  • IMovie-cannot find movies on gallery.

After upgrading to ios6, iMovie projects (new and existing ones) are not synchronizing with movies that are in the gallery. When I try to search for that movies on iPad via iMovie, it appears an error. How can I solve this problem?

How many movies are listed on the device under Settings > General > About ? i.e. does that figure agree with what you think the number should be ?
Also have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
