Imovie class reunion montage

I made a class reunion montage in imovie and need it to play flawlessly for the alumni group next weekend, but I am concerned that the equipment might be an issue. They have a projector and a television monitor. I need some advice and some plan B suggestions in case one plan falls through.

Do you have an iPhone or an iPad? If so you can sync your montage to the device.
Then you would need one of these cables...
Most likely this one for standard definition monitors and projectors.
But if they offer HD use this one.
As a plan B, if they have a computer there, bring a USB drive with your movie. They must have QuickTime for Windows installed on the PC for it to play.
As a Plan C, bring your Mac, and hook it to the projector directly.
Plan D, burn a DVD and maybe they have a DVD player. This is the last option, because the other options will look better, and you don't have to worry if their PC will play your DVD.

Ask your friend to supply you the DVD as a data DVD using either DV or AIC as the video format, burning the DVD as a DVD for a DVD player will degrade the video quality.

Can I copy clips from one project to another? The clips are still frames captured within a video event.

Can I copy clips from one project to another? The clips are frames saved as stills from a video event. I try the copy & paste but it does not seem to work.

The video was converted into MP4 and then I could get it into iMovie events. I had right clicked and saved farmes as stills. ABout 50 of them, When I tried to copy and paste those stills into another project I couldn't. They came up blank.
I ended up going to a Genius appointment at my APPLE store this afternoon and was told that those "stills" aren't really anything. Not a .jpg or video, so the program doesn't recognize them. So instead I'm using the Project with the 50 stills and copying other .jpgs and video into it. (This is for a 1961 Class Reunion, so it's old stuff). Seems to work so far.
So bottom line seems to be I can use these stills created from a video in the project in which they were created, but no where else. Do you know a way around this?

Parameter and/or heap zone error message?? What does that mean?

I have a movie I have made for my dad's 50th class reunion with only pics, music, and transitions. It is about 20 min in length. Everytime i go to finalize, share, etc i get the error message heap zone and/or parameter message. I need this done tomorrow and freaking out right now. What should I do???? nNeeds to be burned on a dvd in the next 24 hrs.

A. I never use Finalize as this only takes up lot's of Hard Disk space and takes long time to do for me - and the resulting DVD is non the better as I can see.
B. From iMovie'08 to 11 - I Share to Media Browser and as LARGE or MEDIUM - as sending HD or other resolution to iDVD gives loss in picture quality.
C. I NEVER - use Share to iDVD in any version of iMovie - as resulting DVD will not be as good as I want it
(D. I rarely use iMovie'08 to 11 - as this too costs in quality loss on the final DVD - Non of them can deliver 100% interlaced SD-Video to iDVD but discards every second line in the picture going from Event's to Project's and this can not be mended - I use iMovie HD6 or FinalCut as they can deliver 100%)
E. In iDVD I always Saves as a DiskImage and test this with DVD-player tool to see that all is OK (especially the sound). Then I use Disk Util tool to burn this Image to a DVD.
Error -108 memFullErr Ran out of memory [not enough room in heap zone]
Turn off - TimeMachine usually works - re-try.
(the Application down in the Dock - not the Device)
But this can mean many thing's - My first thought is
• Free Space on Start-Up hard disk. How much ? (other disks do not count)

J'utilise Aperture pour stocker non seulement mes photos mais également les séquences vidéos (réalisées via camescope ou appareil photo) pour pouvoir les trier et classer avant montage en film dans IMOVIE
J'utilisais IPHOTO qui plantait régulièrement car ma base contenait trop de photos selon les formateurs Apple Store. J'ai donc acheté Aperture. Le problème est résolu pour les photos mais APERTURE plante encore et selon les formateurs cela vient des vidéos importées.
Est-ce le cas pour tout le monde ?
Comment peut-on stocker les séquences en dehors de IMOVIE ?

Ouais, ni iPhoto ni Aperture sont parfaits pour des séquences. Quelle version de iMovie est-ce que vous avez ? Avec iPhoto ’11 vous pouvez stocker et organiser vos séquences vidéos. Final Cut Pro X aussi (et il est plus puissant).
Pour les stocker en dehors de iMovie, il n'y a pas beaucoup de choix. Peut-être Adobe Bridge ou Media Pro de Phase One?

How do I email multiple PDF files? If they exceed the allowable kilobytes of server?

I am working on a class reunion and have scanned multiple pictures into a PDF format as well as some documents also in the PDF format. I now would like to email these documents to class members but find that I have a rather large file. I have read about connecting these files to a web link and then having the recipient of my email open that link. Does this require another program such as Acrobat Reader DC? I would appreciate any advice you might have.

That is the preferred way to transfer pdf files for various reasons (you found one for sure).
You can share files using Acrobat.com. You just upload a file and send the link. There is a free trial but you'll need to eventually subscribe if you continue using it.
Also, there are many free file sharing sites. You can find them by using Google. I don't have any ones in particular that I recommend.
If the file size is slightly over the size limit, you can always Zip it and then email it. Sometimes that gets the file size small enough depending on the file.

How to convert HD DVD to SD in PAL and NTSC - is the MXO2 the magic bullet?

I edited a 1 hour-long video of my college class reunion in FCP Studio 2, exported via Compressor and finally made it into a DVD with menus via DVDSP. Very neat so far, but there's a problem - the DVD is in HD, but I need to convert it to SD PAL to distribute to my old pals in the UK and SD NTSC for those who made it to the USA.
I'd like to do that without re-doing all the fancy menu-work in DVDSP, but how? Can anyone advise me, will the new Matrox MXO2 convert an input HD PAL signal to an SD PAL / or SD NTSC output which can be re-acquired into DVDSP and burned to disk?

Jerry, I appreciate your help with this. I exported the film from FCPS2 via Compressor as a PAL SD .mov, located the correct HD video asset in the DVDSP Build folder and replaced it with the new SD version, renamed to look like the HD asset.
On re-opening the project, DVDSP registers the fact that the video asset has changed (mainly affects menu items), but despite ensuring Preferences is set for SD, there seems no way of changing the format of its output from HD to SD.
Trying to hide the HD video asset in a sub-folder doesn't work - DVDSP re-names the new SD video as Filename (Video) 1.
Build command creates an HVDVD_TS folder containing the usual HD-type files. Creating a template in the hope of using the menu structure in a new SD project results in all the HD video assets coming with it.
I'm sure I'm being stupid, as usual, but can you point me in a better direction?

How do I resolve this error while importing iPhoto 11 photos into Photoshop Elements 11?

I am trying to import my iPhoto library into Elements. It gets part way through the process and then tells me that the import failed and provides the following message:
2090 Media files have been imported. 19 Media files were not imported because the either already present in the catalog or are not supported
It unfortunately give you no indication about what you can do to resolve or fix this problem. Can someone provide some guidance here?

Hi, I am not a user of elements however my wife is. She has been complaining of this issue since we have over 75000 pictures and 15000 will not import into the catalog. After searching forum after forum I could not find a solution. So I gave it some thought. After a little testing I found out why. Remember that Elements catalog is like a long list of file names. Like many people who take lots of pictures unless you sit and rename every picture to a unique file name then you will have this problem. Example: Your camera shoots pictures and names them Img_0001, Img_0002, Img_0003 etc. when you download them to a folder called "76 class reunion" and add to elements. Then delete the pictures from your camera and take new ones. Your camera starts again with Img_0001, Img_0002, Img_0003 etc. You import them to a folder called "78 trip to thailand". Then try adding them to Elements and the message "...media files were not imported because they are already Most cameras keep numbering up but not all. At some point they repeat so it could be a year in between before your pictures present...."
Or course they are after thousands of picutres you will duplicate the files names several times. Just rename the image files in "78 trip to thailand" to be like 1978-Thailand-img_0001, 1978-Thailand-img_0002 etc and then import/add to elements and success. You might ask why they are in differing folders I am importing them from it should catalog the folder and file. Well I could go into a long discussion about databases however just know this. If you try to copy Img_0001 from "78 trip to thailand" to the folder "76 class reunion" you will get a message saying do you want to overwrite the file. This is because they have the same name (can exits in different folders but not the same). Elements takes all the file names and places them in a list so each file name is UNIQUE and cannot be duplicated. Then it catalogs where they are found (ei the folder/directory).
If you are now depressed that you need to rename all your files one at a time. Try Bulk Rename Utility. It is great and has many renaming capabilties to rename files to your delight.

This is the second week my e-mail has been rejected by the server and I've not been able to finish sending out my mail to people. I organize a class reunion. I e-mail about 200 people once a week. For some reason there was a change to a setting somewhere along the line and 2 weeks ago my mail stopped being delivered. I stated in my last contact that I would switch to a free service that would allow me to send my mail. I don't use all the .Mac services and I can get web space much cheaper.
Either fix this or consider me (a member for 4+ years) cancelled. I don't have time to write to you guys every week about this. Did I mention I was ******?

Parsing through your rant which isn't directed at Apple, it seems you might be exceeding the sending limits included with a .Mac account which are not extreme by any means so take a deep breath and calm down.
All internet service providers and email account providers (even free ones) have sending limits or restrictions for non-business/personal email accounts.
These restrictions are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from an ISP's or email account provider's domain. In case you aren't aware, spammers make use of bulk spam mailings and these restrictions make it more difficult for a spammer to do his thing.
It makes no difference that you aren't a spammer or the content of your message is not spam since there is no way an ISP or email account provider can make this determination when you send a message but they can impose sending limits or restrictions.

IMO - since you use your .Mac account for email only, you should cancel your account but keep in mind that even a "free" service includes sending restrictions which may not be identical to .Mac account restrictions but none are restriction free.

InDesign update CS5.5 won't open new file / can't get monitor RGB colors

My biggest problem...a job to do a b&w booklet for a 50th class reunion ready for printer. Tried PS. Downloaded trial of Publisher, but haven't tried. Upgraded Creative Suite to 5.5 to use InDesign. Everything I set as prefs, formats, etc. as soon as I hit enter I get a full screen empty page and a cursor that twirls until I force quit. Do you know why? Do I need to uninstall the earlier version of CS? I should be done with this project and haven't begun. Should I just go to PS and create a tabloid format master and do it all manually? Should I try publisher? Can I get InDesign to work? My reputation is at stake and I want to get the job done rather than tell him this late that I can't do it!
While trying to set the template for the book in InDesign, somehow I now only have 2 colors... blue and graphite, for my display of everything. Tried ColorSync, DigitalColor Meter, tried to find out what resolution to use, I'm lost! NEVER had these problems b4! Please help me ASAP if you know the answers!

I have already wasted 4 days and made very little progress. I removed some blemishes. Took out some unsightly background items. I can place text in a picture. But how do I place a solid coloured text box in a picture?

Add a new empty layer on top of your image. User the rectangle marquee tool to draw out the size of the rectangle you want. Fill the selection with the color you want. Add a text layer over that layer.

Help! Can't edit certain areas of a document.

Hi! I am new to using Indesign. In making name tags for a class reunion and someone gave me files that I can edit and save. The problem is I can only seem to edit areas that have a solid blue line around them. Some areas have a dotted line around them which I am unable to edit. I'm sure it's something easy, but this is the first time I've ever used Indesign so I'm kind of learning as I go :-)

You have a moderately complex InDesign file; InDesign is a complex piece of software and you lack some basic principles; I see more problems ahead.
It appears that all the names are highlighted in pink. This denotes that your system does not have the font used for these names.
Look at the Paragraph Styles panel (Window > Styles > Paragraph Styles or F11)
Are there any styles listed other than Basic Paragraph?

Best Practices for viewing home video on my Mac

Come on people - THERE HAS TO BE A BEST PRACTICE out there for storing and viewing family video!!
I'm the typical dad out there taking photos and video of my kids playing soccer, family trips ect ...
When I get home I hook my camera up to my MacMini (which is hooked up to my Plasma TV - and backed up to an external HD) and within mere seconds, my photos are nicely captured in iPhoto. Friends and family come over, I flip on the MacMini, select iPhoto (or Front Row) and we enjoy great slide shows.
I want to be able to have the same easy access to my videos -flip on my MacMini, start Front Row, view my various home movies, pick one and enjoy the show.
What is the best way to do this?

I have never exported video before (sad but true), so I have a couple "Workflow" questions for you or anyone else that knows this stuff
1) Should I assume I just hook my firewire up from my Canon to the MacMini and everything just starts to export?
2) Once exported into iMovie, I assume I can edit out some of the garbage (example - my wife sometimes forgets to turn off the camcorder and she'll video her leg or the ground for minutes at a time - I'd like to trash that.
3) Once edited, how do I move it into iTunes?
I will probably need to take an iMovie class ...
