IMOVIE copies to DVD disk

I see where you can publish to YouTube, Iphone, etc. I do not see where you can just copy to a DVD disk as a backup. Any help?

Share your movie to either the Media Browser or to iTunes in either Medium or Large.
Open iDVD. Click on the Media Browser at the bottom left of iDVD and you should find your movie under the Movies tab. Drag this movie into the iDVD project.

What app do I download on my mac so I can make a dvd copy of my imovie I made to a DVD? I heard idvd was discontinued?

iDVD can be purchased as part of the iLife '09 or iLife '11 suites still available from many retailers including Amazon. Other options can be found listed here:

I converted from a PC to a Mac Mini.  I have my PC documents backed up on a DVD disk.  I have an external DVD drive connected to the Mac Mini.  I want to open these documents up from the DVD storage and save them to the Mac, BUT....when I put the DVD disk in the Mac is NOT reading it!

    Hi Joe,
Thanks for your quick response.  I should add....it worked before.  When I previously inserted the two DVDs into this remote drive, and I went into finder, I could click on the "remote device" line and see all my saved documents (excel, word, etc) on the DVD and open them on the Mac.  Now I cannot see them, when I try to open them on the Mac, nothing happens, nothing is displayed.  I just re-tested the remote DVD drive with a CD and, no problem, it opened up the CD via iTunes and I cold play the CD.  SO......I know the remote DVD drive (it's an LG by the way) is fine, it's something to do with some settings on my mini mac, especially where I could open it previously.  I do not remember changing any settings since then.
When I go into system preferences and click on CD/DVD it gives me options of how to open up a music CD (default is iTunes), a DVD (default is iMovie), etc.  The problem is my DVD is all miscellaneious files/documents.  I just want to be able to see them in the finder.  I also tried to open them via microsoft word, from the remote disk and again, it could not open the drive, even though some of the documents were microsoft word documents.  Again, I was able to open them previously and the DVD is not corrupted in any way.
    Any additional advice?
    Thank you!

  • HT1583 What blank DVD disks are compatible with burning a film from Idvd on an applemac?

I have just finalized a project in imovie and this message came up on the screen - "Your project exceeds the maximum duration. To burn your DVD, change the encoder setting in the project info window".
I have changed the encoder setting from best fit to Professional but I am having burning the film to a dvd. The computer tells me to load a dvd or my driver is busy - which it isn't it only has a blank dvd disk in it. So I was wondering whether my DVD disks are compatible with the applemac computer!
    HELP!

    Hi
So I was wondering whether my DVD disks are compatible with the applemac computer!
And if You tell - what brand and type You are trying to use - I will be so much easier !
But most often the problem is
    • Do NOT - insert the DVD disk before iDVD specifically as You to do this. As Desktop will catch it and try to format it as a Data-DVD - Not what You want (a Video-DVD) as Data-DVD can not be played on standard DVD-players.
To get it even better I do
    • Use Verbatim - Never Memorex or NoName etc cheap brands (as they don't work OK for Me)
    • DVD-R - as they play on even older DVD-players
    • Burn Speed - set down to x2 or x4 MAX ! - Best IS NOT BEST at all here !

  • Backup iMovie projects to DVD

I would like to back up 1 to 2 hours of a iMovie project to DVD. I am bying Toast that I am told can back up large projects spanning disks, I have Dual layer Lacie burner, What is the Max that I can Span and what volume can I store on a dual layer disk? How comon are the Dual layer disks?

You can fit around 8.5GB on a dual layer disc, which is about 40 minutes of DV video.
You can fit around 4.4GB on a single layer disc, which is about 20 minutes of DV video.
FYI: A dual layer disc costs much more than twice the price of single layer discs.

  • Can Adobe Premiere Elements 12 burn a dual layer dvd disk?  If not, which of the components is at fault?

When I spoke to a person about upgrading from Premiere Elements 10 to 12, I specifically asked if the program could burn DUAL LAYER 8.5 dvds and I was told that it could.  That is the ONLY reason that I upgraded.  Since recording in full HD the files are larger.  I video plays for local theaters. I have been trying to burn a disk that is 7.5GB (2 hours 15 minutes).  I bought RIDATA -RDL 4x 8.5GB disks.  Then had a dual layer burner installed in my computer.  Premiere Element dialog "incompatible disk" The RITDATA says the problem is Adobe, the Geek Squad says the problem is Adobe.
SO ANSWER THIS QUESTION: Can Adobe Premiere Elements 12 burn a dual layer dvd disk?  If not, which of the components is at fault?  I am trying to burn 18 copies of this video (no copyright infringements) and don't tell me to to divide it into 3 disks.

Can Adobe Premiere Elements 12 burn a dual layer dvd disk?
    Short answer: Yes.
What are you burning to DVD disc - DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc or AVCHD format on DVD?
Does your DVD CD burner support double layer single sided discs?
Premiere Elements is supposed to (been there and done that....)
    1. burn to Folder (8.5) for Publish+Share/Disc/DVD and Publish+Share/Disc/AVCHD
(you take the VIDEO_TS for the former and BDMV Folder in the latter to a program like ImgBurn
for the actual burn to the DVD double layer single sided disc)
    2. burn to disc 8.5 GB/240 minutes
Have you gone the burn to folder Folder (8.5 GB) route?
Have you tried another brand of disc in spite of by the disc manufacturer and the Geek Squad are telling you?
A double layer single sided disc is labelled 8.5 GB/240 minutes. In reality, that 8.5 GB is 7.95 GB. Where are you
coming up with 7.5 GB for your disc? Was that due to typing glitch?
Please review and consider. Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Add On..Have you updated 12 to the 12.1 Update yet? If not, please do so using the opened project's Help Menu/Update.

  • Disk Image on DVD disk. How do I utilize?

I backed up a project on a DVD disk as a disk image. How do I utilize it? I would like to get it into iMovie or iDVD and eventually burned to a DVD?
    Thanks

I backed up a project on a DVD disk as a disk image.
If you created a disk image by selecting File>Create Disk Image, you really haven't 'backed up' your project. You 'burned' a completed DVD to a disk image file. This is NOT an archive of your DVD project. Your content has been mpg-2 compressed.
How do I utilize it? I would like to get it into
iMovie or iDVD and eventually burned to a DVD?
If you created a disk image using the File>Created Disk Image route out of iDVD, you can burn it to a DVD by following Burning a disk image on a CD or DVD at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh1884.html
Please note that to use the mpg-2 content from such a disk image in iMovie, you will need to unencode the mpg-2 back to DV video. There are several programs to do this, but this approach results in lower image quality than just using your original DV video content.

  • Importing IMovie File into DVD Studio Pro 4

I used to be able to import the index file from an IMovie project into DVD Studio Pro quite happily.
Today the application freezes on the import progress window, with no files appearing in the asset window.
I have to force quit the application to get out of it.
Can anyone advise how to resolve this issue ?
    Power Mac G5 - Dual 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

If you haven't changed anything on your system, then it would appear that you have one of two things.
Most likely, your preference files have be come corrupt, or second, your Application or application resource file for DVD SP have become damaged.
Try first to toss your DVD SP preferences, if this doesn't do it, then you should uninstall DVD SP and then reinstall with all of the updates before trying again.
If you have tried creating a new project from scratch and the problem persists, then read on.
If that doesn't do it, then there's a very slight possiblility, that there may be an issue with the QucikTime files of the OS, and keep in mind, (this is a very remote possibility) you may have to wipe the drive and reinstall the OS and apps. from the original disks, but only after everything else fails, (THIS IS A DRASTIC LAST DITCH EFFORT.)

trying to burn a iMovie project to DVD
Purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.
With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.

  • How to move Imovie 11 to external disk

I am running out of space on my internal disk.  Need help for step by step instructions to migrate Imovie permanently from internal disk to external disk.  Thanks.

You will need an external drive that is formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled). If your drive is not formatted this way, you can reformat it using Disk Utility.
In iMovie, click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK. This should let you see your external drive in the Project List and in the Event List.
Select any Project, and hold the Command Key down as you drag and drop the small icon for the project to the small icon for the external drive in the Project Library List.
Now, select the Project on the external drive, and click FILE/CONSOLIDATE MEDIA. This will enable you to move any Events referenced in the Project, and also move copies of any photos or music you have used.
    Repeat for all projects.
If there are any Events that have not been used in Projects, you can move them now by holding down the Command Key while dragging and dropping the small icon for the Event to the small icon for the external drive in the Event Library List. Repeat for all remaining events.
You should now have all your projects and events on the external drive.
Now you can edit your movies from the external drive.

  • Imovie HD to DVD

I read somewhere that movies in iMovie HD cannot be burned to a DVD. Is that true? I have iMovie HD 6 and a Matrix DVD-R4X disk.

If you have a Super-Drive or an external that is properly formatted, you can most certainly burn imovie to a DVD.

  • How to copy to DVD disk

I have searched through the forums, read many other related posts related to this subject, and studied the manuals and tutorials, however I have not been able to figure out how to do the basic DVD burning. I apologize if this seems to be a simple task to many of you.
I would like to copy You Tube videos to DVD. These are instructional videos, such as how to make sushi, and the like. I'd like to record various episodes on disks and categorize the contents, so I would have them readily available.
I would also like to copy my bookmark menu to DVD.
Basically, I just want to know how to burn DVD disks for various purposes.
I have a iMac, Snow Leopard OS, and have DVD-R.
    Thanks for your help.

Aside from Youtube, it will depend on what you want to burn; data is easily done in Finder or Disk Utility; however, homemade videos need to be rendered (put into a format that will be playable on any DVD player or computer) before they can be burned (with iPhoto, iMovie, and/or iDVD).

  • Wrong music covering my imovie soundtrack on DVD

    Help?
I exported a movie from imovie into iDVD. I think my child may have set a preference for "It's a Small World" song to play and this song now covers my soundtrack each time I try to burn a DVD of the movie I need by tomorrow! Maybe I should try to copy and rename my movie in iMovie and undo whatever that setting prefernce is—and then reimport? I don't know how to do either.
I would sooo appreciate any help.
    Thank you, thank you!

    Hi E
Did You move Your movie from iMovie to iDVD by using
    the function
Share/Export to iDVD from within iMovie. If so I
    would try this.
    A. test Your movie in iMovie so that it plays OK
    B. Close iMovie
    C. locate Your movie project folder (iMovie 4 or
    prior)
    D. in this there is a folder Share movie and in this
    there is a folder iDVD
and in this there is a QT movie nemed "project
    name".mov.
. Double click on it and see that it plays OK
    F. Drop this file into an open iDVD theme window
    (just inside the edge of
the window frame (so that it doesn't land on a
    hot zone).
. Now You can test this DVD project in iDVD - still
    plays OK
    H. Burn a new DVD disk (or if You have added the
    HPfurz hack You can
make a disk image and test this with Apple
    DVD-player first)

  • IMovie and Fujifilm DVD-R's

I am having a problem burning an iMovie to FujiFilm DVD-r's. Does anyone have any ideas. This same movie burns fine on an Imation DVD-R. Can someone explain this to me. I just bought 100 of these and I find it hard to believe that I have to use these as coasters for my next party. HELP!!!!!!!

    The plot thickens.
I work on two machines: a monster Dual Processor G5 and a G4 PowerBook. I was trying to burn on the DP G5 and it would not burn on those Fuji DVD-R's. I tried it on my G4 Laptop and they burn fine. Go figure the machine designed to handle all that digital video has to offer will not burn those disks. At least I don't have to resort to the coaster idea!!!!!
    Thanks, for the help!
