IMovie Crashed...and my project disappeared, or did it?

Hi!  I've been using my MacBook Air running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 to edit a movie on iMovie 10.0.6.  The movie was up to about 40 minutes of edited video with nearly 450 imported clips (many clips only a few seconds) when mid clip trim the application froze.  My computer automatically restarted after less than a minute and when I reopened iMovie, my project was missing BUT all my clips (non-edited) were still there.
I've read as many other discussions as I could find about this problem and haven't seemed to find a viable solution.  If I open up the iMovie Library Package in Finder I can see the name of my current project with a CurrentVersion.imovieevent file.  All the other associated folders i.e. Original Media, Render Files, etc. seem to be fine as well.  BUT when I open up iMovie, the project is not listed anywhere.
If anyone has any suggestions or solutions I would be extremely appreciative

Thanks, Luis. I have looked through all my clips and don't find any with my movie attached. My film thus far is about 3 minutes and I don't have any clips close to that in length. Is there somewhere else to look for a clip that got opened in a timeline?

  • Imovie crashes on first project

I just bought and installed iMovie '11...upon first import, iMovie crashed and never worked again...

    HELP!
    Please.

Yes, I guess that would be the best way to go, assuming that the corrupted .iMovieProj file can't be recovered, which appears to be the case. For the record (for anyone else reading this), Quicktime Pro would be required. In my case, I've got a backup of the project from a couple weeks ago, and so in this case I judge it would be easier to re-import the media and re-edit from there.
    It's rather frustrating that:
    1. a corrupted file will just crash iMovie -- there are no excuses for program crashes (especially when reading a file; don't the Apple programmers catch exceptions or check I/O function return values?).
    2. iMovie doesn't save backup project files and doesn't verify project files on save/load. I guess I'll manually back up project files each day (I'll add it to my shell script that rsyncs my PB with my file server).
To dot the last 'i', this is a "pure iMovie 4.0.1" project. And thank you for the warm welcome!

  • Hotsync Manager crashes and tray icon disappears

Hi, whenever I try to run Hotsync on my computer (XP Pro) the program immediately crashes and the icon disappears from the systray. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the whole thing, reboot my pc, etcetera, but it keeps crashing.
This is the error I get:
'HotSync® Manager Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
    Error signature:
    AppName: hotsync.exe AppVer: 7.0.2.0 ModName: hslog20.dll
    ModVer: 7.0.0.0 Offset: 0000b0b4
Anyone who can help me find a solution? Tnx.
Post relates to: Treo 680 (Unlocked GSM)

I have the same issue; HotSync won't run (crashes upon start up). I removed the Palm Desktop v. 6.2 completely, downloaded the entire package again and re-installed. HotSync still won't run. This is all on my home PC (WinXP).
I have the same OS on my office machine..HotSync works there. It leads me to believe something has become corrupted with HotSync on the home PC and it isn't being fully removed during the removal process AND it's not being over written during the installation. It worked well for a few months.
Additionally, I find the Access Desktop package to be slow when searching and saving. I've just about had it with Palm devices and the lame Desktop software.

  • IMovie crashed and lost all projects

I just got the new MacBook Air for Christmas and am running Mavericks and iMovie 10.0.1.  I have been working on a 20 minute long video for school for the last few weeks until today when my iMovie suddenly crashed and now my projects are no where to be found.  I have tried deleting the com.apple.iMovieApp.plist file (but i don't even have that file, mine is something like 'com.apple.imovieapp.shared ... plist)in the preferences folder but that did not do anything.  I have also deleted and reinstalled iMovie but still nothing. When I open up iMovie my libraries are there and I can see the video names under the libraries, but there are empty.  I can also see some of my events when I click on "All Events".  I have done everything I can think of to try to get my movies back. Also, when I go to my iMovie projects folder from my user name in the HD, it is there as .rcproject but it is in a data format. Unfortunately, since it is a new computer, I do not have a time machine backup to recover from.  If anyone had any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated! I'm desperate!
    Thanks for your help!

If you have  iMovie Projects and imovie Events folders in <user name> / Movies, these are from iMovie 9, so I infer that you have transferred them from an old machine and upgraded them to imovie 10.
If this is correct you should still have your projects and events.  iMovie 10 stores everything in packages with the extension .imovielibrary.  If this has become corrupt you should be able to upgrade them again (they will automatically go into a new library).  You  will find an empty file with a name something like "updated to iMovie 10" in the events and projects folders.  These need to be trashed in order to allow them to be upgraded afreash.

  • Imovie crashing when copying Projects and Events to external

This is driving me crazy. Imovie keeps crashing when I try and copy some of my projects and events to the external from within iMovie. I can copy the project and event files separately as a work-around, but it's taking me forever. These are very short movies, less than 3 minutes, and the original footage is from a Kodak zi6. I've already copied more than 40, and all went well. Now it keeps crashing.
Why can't I just copy from the Finder. It would be a LOT faster. I'd like to keep the projects/ events linked so that I can edit in the future, if necessary.
External: Firewire, Guid Partition Table, and Mac OS extended (journaled). Lots of free room on both drives.

I found the solution and just want to share with you...
    1. I closed iMovie
    2. I renamed my existing root folder projects and events by adding a '_' at the beginning of the folder name.
    3. I copied all my content (projects and events) within the finder and not as normally recommended within iMovie from the internal to the new external hard drive.
    4. When starting iMovie again the newly copied folder are recognized and it takes a while (depending of the amount of clips and projects) until iMovie is available after this start.
    5. The events and projects are now shown in the new external harddrive and all files are accesible. Also all clips from the events are correctly linked in the projects.
I have tried this way since the normal decribed routine did not work on my iMac (iMovie crashed every time).

  • IMovie 10.0.2/Project disappeared, not editable anymore, need HELP!?

Following problem occured on my Mac. Some days ago I created a new video with the plain/simple project template. All worked fine, I was able to upload it to Youtube and post-editing workes also fine.
So, some days later (today) I wanted to reuse the video and the projekt is not shown anymore in iMovie with the result that I cannot reuse it.
    For the record:
I am still on the same library and have not changed it
The files and the event (project) definition file is still stored and available in the library package if you look into it with Finder. (Looks like projects are stored in SQLite Format)
The shared video in its MOV format is still in the library package
The source files are still stored in the package and are also available within iMovie
Any ideas to get the project back into iMovie to be able to edit/re-use it? Is there any hidden feature to rebuild iMovie libraries?
    Thanks in advance

    No, I did not.
Meanwhile I have found the reason for the projects disappear in my libraries! The problem is caused by using the dash "#" symbol in my project names.
I have created another project with a dash in the name and the project also disappeared in iMovie with the same effect that the underlying data was still in die library.
Apple should release a warning that some special characters are not allowed to be used in project names or better should solve this.
    Thanks for your help!

  • IMovie 10.0.3 project disappears after share

I created a new project in iMovie 10.0.3 (2013), but sometime after I "Shared" it to iTunes, it disappeared from the iMovie project browser.  I still have the finished movie, but I cannot edit and re-share the movie because the "project" has gone missing. To be clear:
    - the movie clips are still shown in iMovie
    - The finished movie is still shown in the "Theater" tab
    - The project DOES NOT appear anywhere in the "LIbraries" browser in iMovie
    - The project DOES appear to be still on the disk here:
    ~/Movies/iMovie\ Library.imovielibrary/\ Updated\ Projects/Ski\ edit
With the CurrentVersion.imoveevent file. Does anyone have any ideas why this happened or how to get the project back? I have alread tried the following:
    - Remove iMovie and reinstall
    - Remove iMovie preference files

I'm a bit puzzled by your path description to the project.
    ~/Movies/iMovie\ Library.imovielibrary/\ Updated\ Projects/Ski\ edit
What are all the back-slashes?  If the missing project is called "Ski" (is this correct?) then I would have expected :
    ~/Movies/iMovie/Library.imovielibrary/Updated Projects/Ski
and within the Ski folder there would be folders called Ski Project, Original Media, Render Files, Shared items, Old versions, Analysis files and the CurrentVersion.imoveevent file. (Not all may be present and there may be others).  I have never seen an item "edit".
You say Ski is a project created in iMovie 10.  In that case it would not appear in the "Updated Projects" event but directly under Library.imovielibrary (unless you deliberately moved it there).
Did you have an earlier version in iMovie 9?
    Geoff.

  • IMovie 9.0.9 project disappeared

    No, I did not.

  • Imovie Crashes when copying project/event to external

If I try and copy the project/ and event from within Imovie, Imovie crashes. If I copy them separately to external, it works. I'd like to do it together, as this way is too slow! This only happens on some projects, other copy without a hitch.
I will post the crash log next, if that will help.
External is Mac OS extended (journaled), and is Apple Partition map, although same problem when formatted as GUID.

I am clicking on the project I want to copy, and then dragging it to the ext. icon.
A window appears, and asks if I want to copy the project, or the project and the event. I choose the latter.
It seems to copy the project, and then crashes on the event. I can move them separately, without a hitch.

  • Urgent: iMovie crashed and now won't open. How can I retrieve the movie I was working on?

I've been working on a university project for weeks now and was doing so this afternoon.
As I went to import a MP4 (just like I had done every time before) iMovie crashed.
Now when I try to open it, all I get is a black box with grey boarders at the top and left-hand side.
I've tried to get the movie from the iMovie library, and other sources on the mac, but I can't seem to find it.
The assignment is due next week, and the editing for the project is huge.
Is there anyway I can get it back?
I don't care about iMovie itself, as long as I can get the movie I was working on back.
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Try recent items.
Click your Apple  top left in your screen.
From the drop down menu click: Recent Items then look under Documents.

  • IMovie Crashes When Editing Projects

iMovie 08 crashes while I am editing a project. It happens all the time now which is weird because I have made movies successfully in the past. I have 250g HD and 116g free space. The event I am editing is 62g. I am so confused and frustrated. I can't make any edits without hanging up and having to force quit out of the application. Any ideas?

"..Would I be able to import the project part that I export and delete.." ..You would, except that it'd be all "baked" into a single clip when exporting it, so although you could chop it up again once you'd re-imported it, your original edits wouldn't be there to re-edit.
(..In the previous iMovie HD 6 there's an option 'Burn Project to Disc...' which does allow a project to be exported in an editable format, but if yours is 62GB and a DVD holds 4.7GB or data, that's be several DVDs' worth ..oh, and I think it couldn't split a project across several DVDs..)
So if you'd want to re-edit parts later, your best bet may be to copy the entire project to an external FireWire hard disc (..preformatted to 'Mac OS Extended', using Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility..) and then delete half, or more, of the project that's on your internal disc, thus making the whole thing more stable.
(..To read more about formatting an external disc, click on iMovie Help and type external hard disc into the Search box; that'll give you a topic called 'iMovie: Format external hard disks as HFS Extended for best performance'..)
Continue editing what's left on your internal disc, or tell iMovie where you've moved your project to - onto the external disc - by clicking on iMovie's hard disc icon at the upper-right corner of the Events Library..
..at least, that's where iMovie's Help says you'll find that icon, but - honestly - I've never seen it there, even when I've had one or more correctly-formatted external hard discs connected!
(..To read about that in iMovie's Help, Search on move project and that'll give you the Help file 'Storing your video library on an external hard disk'..)
So; if subsequent editing's not important, just Export most of your existing project, then delete it from your internal disc. You'll be able to bring it back later in one chunk to complete the start of your movie.
If later editing is important, copy - or, better still, BACKUP - your project to an external disc, then tell iMovie where you've put it, and either continue editing on that disc, or delete half the project from the internal disc and continue editing on the internal one.
A Backup is extremely important anyway for a project your size: what would you do if your computer, or project, went wrong now, and you had no copy of your 62GB project?! ..Probably pull all your hair out, shout and scream!
Erm; how to combine the rest of your project - what you'll edit from now on - with what you've saved on the external disc? When you're happy with the remainder of your edit, Export it as a single file, and then add it to what you've saved on the external disc.
But for a project your size ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP!
P.S: As this is a big important project, test this first by doing a short Export of a short test project. Then check that you can recombine the two halves. Ensure that everything works well before you perform this kind of major surgery on your big project!

  • I shared my imovie in media browser and the project disappeared from my computer...any ideas of where it might be? I've searched everything.

I created a 30 min video in imovie and then clicked share in media browser....
I went to go find it and the raw footage is in imovie, but the project is GONE.
Nowhere to be found, not idvd not imovie, only some crypric .
I can't even find media browser on my computer even though when I go to
download media browser, my computer tells me I already have it!!!
Where oh where has my imovie gone?

    http://www.zenyourbusiness.com

What do you mean by raw footage when you say "I went to go find it and the raw footage is in imovie, but the project is GONE." Can you open your working movie in IMovie Edit Project window? Does it show to the left of the file name in the Project library or Share/Media Browser drop-down box that it has processed the movie?
my processed movies are listed in the iMovie Projects folder as Movies/iMovie Projects.localized. Using this file, the drag and drop worked for me so I was able to burn the movie on iDVD. However, shared iMovie projects are still not recognized by iDVD. An old project has disappeared and the new one does not appear in iDVD in the Media pane as it should. I checked the preferences, and directed it to look in the iMovies Project folder. I am currently sharing with iTunes and when I open IDVD the medium shared movie is there as should be. Hummm. Why not the large shared movies showing in IDVD?
You probably have tried several things already but: open your "more info" box for the movie file if you can, and there the extension shows .rcproject and make sure you are checked to open with iMovie.
Check your iDVD preferences. Make sure it is looking in the right place for your movie files. It automatically checks in "Movie" folder but you can also ADD by directing it to your iMovie Project file specifically. You could go into your Home Library and dump your preferences then reopen IMovie and see if it helps (don't trash your preference until you reopen IMovie and see it is working okay) but this did nothing to help me.
In iMovie, try removing your movie from Media Browser  and reprocessing it. You might send it to iTunes and see if it shows correctly there.
I will keep at this as there appears to be a bug with the processing of large movies and IDVD recognizing them as previously. It is just not finding shared movies.

  • My iMovie crashed and deleted my project

Hi there! I am freaking out I've been working on a project for a while and then my iMovie just crashed. It's not showing up in my projects folder and I also have carbonite back up but I can't find it there either. My project folder says theres 8 projects but only 7 shows up. If anyone could help me get it back that would be great!

If you are running Time Machine, go back in time until you find a working copy.
If not, check the Movies/iMovie Projects folder.
If they are there, deleting the Plist may help.
Finally, check the Trash and see if they ended up in there.

  • Clicking on Transition and Title browsers causes '11 iMovie crash and projects/events play audio but no video

After several years of working fine, my old iMovie started acting funny. Clicking on the Transition or Title browser would cause it to shut down. I just bought/downloaded the "upgrade" to '11 iMovie, 9.0.4, yesterday, and now, not only does it still do the same thing, but the projects or events won't play any video portion, only the audio.

I seem to be having the same problem. I'm running a mac mini and I have like 5 photos, 1 song, and 2 movie clips (not a lot of stuff) in the movie, and when i go to preview it... I see the pictures, and hear the music... but no video.
