IMovie crashes, doesn't preview correctly. I want to move file!
Please help me. I just bought the brand new mackbook pro 15" july 2011. I took to apple store, they don't know what to do. Im so dissapointed. Now i am just trying to move the project to an external so I can attempt to burn the movie on a mac that has 8gb memory. You see, for some reason the project file eats up all my memory when it's opened. So imovie cant burn it, share, or anything. PLease if anyone knows what is going on or how to trouble shoot. Please let me know. The movie is 25 minutes, files are gopro video files, iphone 4 files, mini dv, and imported imovie hd files. Tons of edits, and 6 songs or so. PLease, I do not want to start over. Like I said, so dissapointing. I dont want it to cloud my opinion of apple, but **** this *****. I had an imac from 2006 until now, made great movies on imovie hd, got this one for my biggest yet, and bam! right away it just fell apart.

Moving Event's and Project's
Connection - Either connect one Mac in Target mode to the other via FireWire. Or use an external hard disk !
(Target-Mode - Start one Mac e.g. laptop - BUT keep T-key down during full up-start - Now a FW-symbol is jumping around the screen and it will work as an external hard disk when connected to the other Mac)
A. The External Hard Disk - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work for Video. UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange works for most other things but not for Video whatever program is used (iMovie or FinalCut)
B. Should be a FireWire one as USB/USB2 performs badly to me and especially when filling up
C. Do never Move or Alter any folder named
• iMovie Event's - or -
• iMovie Project's
on DeskTop/Finder - as this will result in iMovie losing connections to them and repair can be anything from hard to impossibly
D. Moving and Copying must be done within iMovie application and Events to Events - and - Project's to Project's.
E. Moving Project's to Event's - Do not work for me - I have to export project as a QuickTime movie then Import this into Events.
Event's window can show two faces

Made a slideshow using Photoshop Elements 9 that keeps crashing when I try to output it to movie file (wmv).
This message appear: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error
This is totally new to me as I have made a few slidshows before and saved them into wmv-files without any problem.I tried to open the file and renew it "save as" and did the whole procedure over again but it still crasches. There is no video in the slideshow and all pics are .jpg and to summarize it - 5 days of work is nearly gone if this doesent convert into a wmv-file..... Pls advise any suggestion what to try here.

/SwedenYour crash has nothing to do with the junk filter. It looks more like a corrupt preferences file. If you're curious, you may check the validity of that file issuing the following command in Terminal:
plutil ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plistWhat does it say? Now, try this:
1. Quit Mail.
2. Make a backup copy of the HOME/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
3. In the Finder, go to HOME/Library/Preferences/. Locate the file com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted if this fixes the problem).
You'll have to set up your accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don't. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in HOME/Library/Mail/ when done.
You'll also have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. The first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable "Display remote images in HTML messages" if it's enabled. -
I'm working with imovie 08 on Macbook pro OS X and converted movie originally from VHS tape to .m4v files imovie wouldn't recognize it. I converted to .mov files and imovie generated thumbnails (for hours) and shows a New Event but there is nothing there. Any help?

I want to move files on my hard drive without 'losing' them in iTUnes
I currently have lots of my music files stored in various folders in my hard drive (mp3 files created before I had an iPod and started using iTunes). I've got this music in my iTunes library, by using 'Add folder to library' prompt.
However, since getting my iPod and ripping lots of music using iTunes, I'm liking the way iTunes collates my files within my specified iTunes folder, and want to move all my music files into this one folder so these old files can be collated in the same way.
Obviously, if I just drap and drop these old files into my iTunes folder using Windows Explorer, iTunes will 'lose' the link to these tracks and I'll have to locate them again. My other thought is that I'd have to delete all these old tracks from my iTunes library, and then once I've moved them into my iTunes library, add them back in. I figure there must be an easier way.
Is there an easy way of moving my older music files into my iTunes folder, but in a way that iTunes realises that I've moved them? Once I've done this, will iTunes automatically collate them in the same way it does with songs ripped using iTunes, or will I need to do this manually?

System drive full want to move files to another internal drive
my sysytem drive is almost full it is only 52gb I have another internal drive that to 100gb and I want to move everything to that drive. I kow that I can do this by making a disk image of the system disk. however I need a bootable cd, which I donot have. can i use another mechine to boot with and make the disk image that way? if so how?
thanksMDD G4s have room for four drives on two IDE buses (plus two optical bays). No reason to go through the disk image intermediate step that I can see though. Just use Disk Utility -> Restore to move or clone everything over. Or you can do same with CCC, or SuperDuper. Lots of ways.
No need for bootable CD (and CD is rather small) and while BootCD worked with Panther, no version is out for Tiger.
You can just boot from your Tiger DVD and use Disk Utility from there.
When copying between drives, it is a lot faster to copy from/to different IDE buses. If your OEM boot drive is in the ATA/100 cage on the right (in front of cpus) then copy to the ATA/66 bus on the left. You might want to zero the drive or test your 100GB (odd number, that, I have seen 80 and 120, but 100GB?).
If you don't have OS X CD/DVD, then I would suggest buying a retail 10.4.6 DVD now. -

Why do i keep getting "image is missing preview data" when trying to move files from bridge to PS ??
I am not able to move multiple files to PS...regardless whether I am doing HDR or panorama.....get this "image is missing preview data" with the first file number of the series of files.

I am sorting out all the clutter and duplicate files on my external HD. In doing this I am moving the entire contents of folders to new locations. Some of these folders cointain gigs of info. I do not want to have to spend large amounts of time waiting for hundreds of gigs to copy somewhere then moving the originals to the trash and wait even longer deleting all of them. All I want to do is move the files up a subfolder, but the way Finder goes aobut doing it can be a 400 GB swing taking hours. How do I just "move" them?

I did a global change of permissions for the entire documents account in the currrent user account using the get info and apply to enclosed items.
I think what is happening is that the Documents folder normally carries an "everyone deny delete" ACL, meant to protect it from accidental deletion:
$ ls -lde ~/Documents
drwx------+ 6 t1 staff 204 Oct 9 08:51 /Users/t1/Documents
0: group:everyone deny delete
ACLs are special types of permissions that do not show up in GetInfo, but can get propagated if you click "Apply to Enclosed Items" on a folder that carries them. Affected files that acquire that ACL would require password authentication to move or delete them.
I think the following Terminal command (copy and paste it) should remove such ACLs from items within the Documents folder:
chmod -RN ~/Documents/*

I like the last idea since you keep all your operating system and applications on your SSD and have all your files automatically wind up on your external storage.
This works better when both drives on onboard like in a Mini or MBP w/ Data Doubler but you might make this work with your Air. -
Quicktime wont start & crashes every time i try to play a .mov file or open
I have been getting this error every time i try to launch Quicktime 7.65.17.80 or every time i try to run a .mov file. Here is the information that i get when getting this error. Also i have tried looking online for a solution to this and cant find one. I have also tried uninstalling it completely and then reinstalling it but that does not seem to help.

IMovie crashes when event deleted or renamed. Events were moved to Disk C.
I have a problem that has stumped me, the phone Mac Genius, and my local store Genius. iMovie '09 worked well for me but System drive A was getting too full. I moved both the iMovie Project and Event Folders to a separate internal hard drive. I did not do it within the iMovie program itself. I simply copied the folders and deleted the originals. Somewhere in there I upgraded to Snow Leopard but that may be unrelated. Things seemed to work fine until I tried to rename an Event, delete an event, or discard rejected clips. If I do those things, iMovie crashes without making the changes. It deposits some files in the trash in the effort. I can rename or delete a project OK. I can still import, edit, and share movies seemingly normally.
I notice that when I create a DVD in iDVD, that all my iMovies appear twice in the Media Browser, one full set after the other.
I tried all the usual things. Deleted all the preference files that I could find. Reinstalled iMovie. Reinstalled Snow Leopard. Even did an erase and clean reinstall of Snow Leopard and iLife '09 on my drive A. Switched drives B and C. Problem persists.
If I import a small clip from my Flip Camera to Drive A, I cannot change name or delete. If I remove Drive C with all my video (500 GB+) from its bay, then I can change name and delete the events on Drive A.
Seems to me there is some registry information within the event or project files that I scrambled when I moved them to another internal hard drive. Was there some other way I should have tried? What happened and how can I recover?Same problem for me too. If you look at the top section of your crash report you see reference to 3ivx, this is some kind of video codec. I did a search on my mac for 3ivx and uninstalled it. This fixed the problem. See these two articles for more information:

Most of us are not programmers, and most of us have no experience reading these traces. In fact, for the people who post answers here most often, I think it is fair to say that we rarely have these crashes, so when we give advice on fixing them, we are at best repeating what has worked for other people who have come here with problems. Sometimes they will come back and report what finally fixed their problem.
If you need technical support that goes beyond the experience of other users, you can click the Contact Us link at the bottom of this (and any other) page and contact the Apple technical support folks. If your Mac is new, or if you purchased Apple Care, the support call may be free. If you are out of the warranty period, they may be a charge, which they should reveal up front.
I would agree with Karsten that if trashing Preferences did not work, then installing extra codecs should be a target of suspicion. Are you running Time Machine? In that case, you could roll back the Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime folder to its prior state and restart the computer.
You may have to trash preferences after doing this.
If you know the codecs you added, you could delete them one by one until you find the culprit (if that is the problem - hard to say since we do not know much about which codecs you may have added or from where).
If you need help converting certain media to be used in iMovie, someone here can probably help with that.
