IMovie cutaway function on ipad2

Is there a means to perform iMovie picture in picture or cutaway functions on an iPad2  I want to lay an image of a presentation slide over a presentation video without losing the audio. Sorry if the answer is obvious. I'm new to the apple world

It sounds like you have to disable VoiceOver.

  • How do you fix the swipe function on ipad2 that is not working?

The swipe function on my iPad2 is not working and the apps require a double-click to open (some do not open). When I go to settings, the passcode entry boxes are grayed out. I have already tried a hard restart by holding down the menu button and the Hold button until the apple appears. What else can I try to get it back to working normally?
    Thanks

  • IMovie Cutaway Trouble

Hello... I'm editing a clip in iMovie... and would like to insert JPG images as cutaways. The first cutaway seemed to work fine. But the second and third are not showing up when I try to play back the movie. Instead, I get a frozen "still" video shot of my face... and no transition to/from the cutaways.
When I move the cursor and hit "play" within these cutaways, they seem to work. But when I start watching my video from the beginning, they don't work.
Any idea what could be causing this problem?

You can convert .mp4 files into .mov with thrid party apps or even Quicktime Player 7 but I (naively?) assumed the share to Youtube would use a format that is acceptable to Youtube.  I have never tried it myself.
    Anyone else?
    Geoff.

  • Imovie not functioning

I have IMovie 08. When I try to do something within the programma (copying or cutting or anything) I get the rainbow turning wheel and I have to force stop the program. IMovie functioned until a week ago.

Thanks so much for trying to help me with this. I'm not really sure what codecs are. I opened several clips in Quicktime, a few that I know work in iMovie and a few that I know don't work. Then I went to Window/Show Movie Inspector like you said but I don't see anything about audio and video codecs. Could they be called something else? Under the "Show Movie Inspector" I saw "Show A/V Controls" so I clicked on that, though I'm not sure if that is the same thing. It showed the volume levels were normal (and the same on the clips that work and the clips that don't).
So, maybe the audio visual codecs are called something else? Because I'm not seeing that anywhere..
    Thanks again!

  • Lost of functionality on iPad2 when upgrading to iOS 7.0.2

recently upgraded iOS on iPad2. Previous version 6x. showed a flower icon on lock sceen. When selected it would run a slideshow of my photo gallery. Where did this feature go?

There is a slide show capability in the Photos app.

  • How do I get the Project Window of iMovie '11 functioning properly?

The scrubber in the Project Window runs painfully slow. It has to think about literally every movement, but if I just hit Play it will run smoothly. The scrubber in the Event Window also works fine. I had thought it was because I didn't have enough space in the Startup Disk, but I've cleared it out and nothing's changed.

If you had iMovie 9 and upgraded to Mavericks, iMovie 9 should still be in your Applications folder  in a folder called imovie 9.0.9.  You can still use it and your Events and projects folders should still be present.

  • IMovie shared function could not work

Hi, I am using the latest version of imovie but I cannot upload to youtube. The Share button is not grayed out. The icons just wouldn't come out. Any idea why?

    Hi Barry,
    iMovie11, SnowLeopard 10.6.7.
    Different problem in the trailer:
The main title shows "placeholders" as if the font is missing which it is likely not; I have not messed with fonts in a year.
The placeholders resemble a box with the capital letter "A" within the box bordered by the phrase "BASIC LATIN" on top and bottom of the box and "0000" on the left and "00F7" on the right.
To attempt to repair the malfunction, I eliminated the .plist file but this rids iMovie11 of the projects themselves, so this is no solution.
I quit iMovie and restarted it but the problem persists.
The previous trailer had no font problems, nor problems of any kind. My previous movies made in iMovie11 had no problems either.
    What to do?

  • IMOVIE Slideshow Functions

When creating a slideshow in iMovie HD 6, is there a way you can add a transition to each of the photos in one step, like copy and paste? I have used other software (PC) that allows the creator to add a particular transition (like random) and duration throughout the entire project. Being new to the Mac, I was just trying to find if there is a script to allow this. I have used iPhoto and Photo Presenter to create other sldieshows, but I would like to use iMovie. Currently I have a project with 120 photos and adding the same transition 120 times separate times is something I would think the developers would have incorporated an "add current transition to all" command into this. Additionally, what is the best format when exporting the movie to ensure the best quality when creating a DVD.
    IMAC 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    IMAC 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Currently I have a project with 120 photos
and adding the same transition 120 times separate
times is something I would think the developers
would have incorporated an "add current transition
    to all" command into this.
On a Mac, commands often act on "the selection", whatever that selection is. Commands that act on ONE thing can often act on SEVERAL if more than one is selected.
That's true in iMovie too. Although there is no "apply to all" command, If you select 120 photos you can apply the same transition to all. So iMovie does exactly what you want, if you first select the clips.
In Mac parlance, that's called "elegance", where the application anticipates what you want to do and lets you do it easily. It's also called "confusing", at least until you figure out how it works.
Note, by the way, that a transition reduces the play-time of the photo. The amount depends on the type of transition. You may want to test a couple before adding a transition to all.
    Additionally, what is the
best format when exporting the movie to ensure the
best quality when creating a DVD.
No export is necessary. Just ask iMovie to share the project with iDVD. iMovie sends iDVD the address of a small movie that iMovie stores inside the project, made especially for iDVD each time we save the project.
Before you share it, make sure you read about the iMovie bug that can damage your photo clips. Described here:

  • Imovie cutaway blanked out

all my past adjustments in imovie are grayed out how do i fix this?

Suggestion as to how to get your old edits back? Unfortunately I don't have any.
Suggestions I do have is that <4GB of free drive space is very little. OSX needs space to do its thing (cache files, temp files, etc.) and then every application you run will need some free space. iMovie probably needs a bit more than others (and iDVD requires a LOT). You probably ran up against all your drive space being used up and when iMovie went to write another temp file it found not enough room and crashed. Long term, unless you do something about your storage problem you WILL run up against this type of problem often.
An external high capacity Firewire drive is one solution. You can free up a lot of room if you move any and all iMovie project folders off your internal onto the external drive (making sure it was reformatted to Mac Extended format). You can work on iMovie projects directly off external drives. You may be able to move lots of other work files and seldom used documents/files that you need to keep onto the external drive.
Or you may want to upgrade the drive inside your Mac to something bigger and then move your current internal drive into an external enclosure to use for backup or as a work drive.
Sorry I don't have a solution to your current work loss, but I think the above is a solution to avoiding further problems like you had, that WILL happen again if you don't fix your storage space crunch.

  • Help - iMovie not functioning properly

I have had my MacBook for several months now and have been using iMovie without any problems. Unfortunately, today, the program started acting up. I was importing movies and everything seemed to be going okay.. then, (forgive me if I don't know the technical terms for the different parts of the program) but the clips kind of disappeared - not from the events section but from the place where you drag and drop the clips to actually create the video. I had to click on the title of a different project and then click back on the title of the project I was working on for the clips to show up again. Then, I proceeded to try and add a new clip selection to my project but it wouldn't take. It showed the vertical green line like it knew I wanted to place a clip there, but it wouldn't take the clip.
Now, only videos that contain photos/movie clips that I uploaded from my own camera will play. Videos that contain movie clips that I downloaded from the internet, and then uploaded to iMovie (for the purpose of making fanvideos) won't play in the preview screen. And when I click on those clips themselves, there is NO audio.
I have no clue what has caused this so I'm sorry if my explanation is confusing and a little all over the place. I did a systems update this morning and I'm not sure if that would have had anything to do with it or not.. I have no idea how to fix this and I have gone through pages and pages of iMovie support topics and have not found anything to help.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would SO greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

  • Exported from imovie, playback functionality is not correct.

Recently completed a short in imovie for easter "shared" it to iweb hosted at .mac site and short will not play with a left click of the mouse only a right click. I am not sure where to begin here.

Ditto here. If you're clicking on the movie itself it's two click to start, one to stop. If you use the controller then it's one click for both start and stop. Always been that way as far as I can remember.

  • IPad2 and iMovie problem

I bought the iMovie app on my iPad2 and when I connect a SDCH card with photos and movies taken by a Sony Alpha 55, only the photos are recognised (by Photos) but not the movies (by iMovie).
If I insert the same card on my MacBook Air, iMovie recognises the movies, and iPhoto recognises the photos.
    Why this difference?
Does anyone know what format (s) the iMovie app for the iPad recognises?
    Pedro

Fortunately, Google Chrome crashes in exactly the same way, and the geniuses at Google have devised a solution that does not require reinstalling the entire operating system.  The same steps that they recommend also work for fixing iPhoto.
Be sure that you are logged in as a user with administrative privileges (System Preferences → Users & Groups → Current User → ☑ Allow user to administer this computer).
    Launch the Terminal application.
Inside the Terminal, run sudo update_dyld_shared_cache -force
    When prompted, enter your password.
After the command completes (in about a minute), restart the computer.

  • Anyway to "UN" Ken Burns stills globally or as default bringing in jpeg's?  New to iMovie. I have 3 titles that build.  First is logo, add prod't name second line, add date 3rd line.  They shift when dissolving between them. Title function NG for this.

The people at the Apple store gave me a long, tedious workaround which is open Pages and bring in logo.  Export it as a PDF.  Open the PDF in Review and then "Save As" a jpg to the desktop and drag and drop into the imovie.  Even with this process, the text will sometimes shift.  When it works, it looks good, the logo comes up, then the second line fades in under it as part of the build and then the third line completes the graphic.  It would something this easy and straight forward would be easy.

I did the work around for the titles/jpg's in this short video.
I'll try your fix on the next one.  I have 22 short 3-5 minute videos to produce
and I'm on number 5.  This should save me a bunch of time.
It would appear that you know more than the guy at the Apple Store.
    Thank goodness for on-line forums.
I already tried fixing them individually as you suggested,
by going the crop/fit route.  However, even then,
the second in the series had always shifted.
The first and the third images lined up, but not number 2..
So  I brought in all the images, (1, 2 and 3).
and then the 2nd image again and put it in the third position
in the sequence on the time line. I deleted the "original" 2nd image.
So I had 1, 3, then 2.  Then I dragged and dropped the correct number two
into position two and it worked.  So what happens is that the
client logo appears, then that stays put and the next line dissolves in
and then the third dissolves in.  They are three separate titles, but they
are aligned perfectly so that they build as I dissolve between them.
I think the problem with the edit copy route would be that while
I could edit/copy the logo, I couldn't position text through the
iMovie text function exactly as it only gives you middle or bottom third etc.
Each title with the product name is positioned individually depending on
length and number of lines. By going through Pages, I can position the logo
and the text exactly.  Also, some logos are horizontal, while others
are square etc., so text positioning is crucial.Anyhow,
I'll try the global approach for the next one and see how that works.
Thanks very much for your insight and especially for your prompt reply.
I trust you're inside on this gorgeous July 4th because you're
making money on your computer. ;-)HarveyVOn 7/4/2011 3:57 PM, Apple Support Communities Updates wrote:
