IMovie Cutaway Trouble

Hello... I'm editing a clip in iMovie... and would like to insert JPG images as cutaways. The first cutaway seemed to work fine. But the second and third are not showing up when I try to play back the movie. Instead, I get a frozen "still" video shot of my face... and no transition to/from the cutaways.
When I move the cursor and hit "play" within these cutaways, they seem to work. But when I start watching my video from the beginning, they don't work.
Any idea what could be causing this problem?

You can convert .mp4 files into .mov with thrid party apps or even Quicktime Player 7 but I (naively?) assumed the share to Youtube would use a format that is acceptable to Youtube.  I have never tried it myself.
Anyone else?
Geoff.

Is there a means to perform iMovie picture in picture or cutaway functions on an iPad2  I want to lay an image of a presentation slide over a presentation video without losing the audio. Sorry if the answer is obvious. I'm new to the apple world

It sounds like you have to disable VoiceOver.

  • Imovie cutaway blanked out

all my past adjustments in imovie are grayed out how do i fix this?

Suggestion as to how to get your old edits back? Unfortunately I don't have any.
Suggestions I do have is that <4GB of free drive space is very little. OSX needs space to do its thing (cache files, temp files, etc.) and then every application you run will need some free space. iMovie probably needs a bit more than others (and iDVD requires a LOT). You probably ran up against all your drive space being used up and when iMovie went to write another temp file it found not enough room and crashed. Long term, unless you do something about your storage problem you WILL run up against this type of problem often.
An external high capacity Firewire drive is one solution. You can free up a lot of room if you move any and all iMovie project folders off your internal onto the external drive (making sure it was reformatted to Mac Extended format). You can work on iMovie projects directly off external drives. You may be able to move lots of other work files and seldom used documents/files that you need to keep onto the external drive.
Or you may want to upgrade the drive inside your Mac to something bigger and then move your current internal drive into an external enclosure to use for backup or as a work drive.
Sorry I don't have a solution to your current work loss, but I think the above is a solution to avoiding further problems like you had, that WILL happen again if you don't fix your storage space crunch.

  • IMovie HD - Trouble!  Video is skipping like it has too much information??

On my current iMovie HD project, the Video portion of the playback is skipping during the last song I am working on. It's almost like there is too much information during that song, but I have not added transitions, sound effects, etc to the clips.
I have tried deleting song and adding a different song, same problem. The other 30 minutes of the movie play perfectly.
Wowsers. Any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you Jason for responding so quickly.  I clear the auto-linking and do my own linking between tables.  As you said, "there's nothing smart about CR's smart links".
And I was referring to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 version 9.0.3073.  The problem I initially had was linking CR to the server.  Thankfully I had a lot of help from the linking forum that helped me with it.  I'm running Windows 7 and it appears the operating software has two ODBC one is 32 and the other 64. In the ODBC Data Source Administrator the user DSN is set to the SQL Server.
Back to this problem.  Trying to figure out the double item numbers and I have tested it with only that one particular table and did not link it to another.  I also have tried it with linking it to other tables to see if somehow that could put a restriction on the information.  The parameters really doesn't work here unless I'm setting it up incorrectly.  Nor does the Select Expert really do what I need it to do. The options I can choose from: Itemnumber:  is any value, is equal to, is not equal to, is one of... nothing gives me the option to say only choose the child if the child was purchased.  And I'm not advance enough to figure out a script to do it.
Per sales order (I have the report to group by the sale order number) I need it to list the correct item that was purchased by the customer.  The report pulls into the detail section of the report the parent and child item number when only the child item was ordered and not the parent.
I have a feeling you are correct in saying
Don thank you very much for the registry edit.  It has saved me a step in creating new reports.
    Thank you both again,
    Cindy W.

  • About HD Imovie timeline troubles

    Hello,guys.
I think that I wan't descriptive enough when I posted before. Sorry,I dont know what else to discribe except that I am using ILife '05. Also I downloaded an Imovie upgrade for my version 5.0.2 last night and today I had a crash while using Imovie.
Info of the failure took over the screen and I took a picture of it which I downloaded to Iphoto after I shutdown/and turned it on again. Everything its working fine except Imovie. I reads "corrupt stack"! on the top.I really need to know where to start to get rid of these corrupted stack, someone that could interpret all this data.
Since I have no clue on how to upload it or if it is permmited here,I have no choice but to send it through email to somone. If you would like to help please contact me to [email protected]
    Thank you for your patience.
    Ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi
As I remember it this is a "bug" and only way around is this.
    • Select clip A and clip B
    • Go up to Advance menu and select Extract Audio
    • Now go to text tool - insert text - drag the tool name to where the text
    should start in TimeLine
Now it will not tuch the audio.
Text can only be dropped where there is a sceen/clip brake.

  • IMovie import trouble. "The import was cancelled. You may not have permission to write to ..."

I recently purchased a Sony Handyman camcorder and just attempted to import a test video. A window popped up with the message  "The import was cancelled. You may not have permission to write to ..." I am not super tech-savy, so please explain how to remedy this with very simple and specific directions. Thank you.

OK then you must have imovie 9 or earlier.
Is your camcorder listed as supported by iMovie 9?  see:  http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html?lang=en_US
Can you transfer your clips from the camcorder to your hard disk using Finder then transfer these to iMovie as a second step.

  • Imovie sharing trouble

I am trying to share a movie in theatre and everytime i do it, says there is a video rendering error -50.  I end up getting a video that is half the length.  I have tried exporting with files but still no success?  Any ideas?
    Thankyou

I'm not too well up on Mac OS X Error Codes - even though I've googled this for you, and suggestions seem to indicate that Error 0 means "no error", but that doesn't sound right - so all I can offer is:
Error codes are 'pre-written' and have to cover a wide range of circumstances, so they're not always appropriate to the actual problem (..like in DOS, "Bad command or filename" could mean almost anything: mistyped word, command term is missing or in the wrong place, program doesn't exist or has been moved, etc).
So the actual wording of an Error message may imply something quite different, e.g; you "don't have permission" to write to a disc may mean that the disc is actually full, so there's no more room to write to it.
If you've already made three iMovie projects, and created two iDVD projects from those, and none of that material has been deleted from your Mac, then perhaps you're running short of space. Why not check and see how much free space you have on your iMac, as burning a DVD can need up to about 4.5 GB of empty space to build the DVD "disc image" (..depending on how long the DVD runs for).
Not having "permission" to do something can also mean that various files may be in the wrong places ..which sounds like the consequence of renaming folders, or moving programs out of the folder where the system expects to find them. Could you have renamed any other folders, beside the 'Pictures' which you've now corrected? Could you have moved the iDVD program - or any other item which iDVD is trying to use - from its original position?
Not having "permission" to do something is such a catch-all, that you'd really have to narrow things down to what exactly is different, or what changes you've made on your Mac, between earlier projects and this latest one.
Sorry not to be any more helpful than that!

  • Imovie logo trouble

Still can't put a logo into a imovie project timeline. I have gone to photoshop and created a  png file (from my jpg logo), put the png file into imovie and tried to drag and drop. But it only gives me the optons of "replace" "insert" or "cancel." A lot of folks say to do a "picture in a picture," but it never gives me this option.
    Any thoughts?

  • IMovie 2013 trouble?

So I've recently updated my iMovie, and after getting over all the editing bumps and figuring everything out, my movie won't upload to youtube properly. When exporting, I choose "file" and save. But it always saves as an .mp4 file? So when I upload it to youtube, its just audio and a black screen. I've tried re-exporting numerous times and I still get the same result. Even going into the video properties and changing it to a .mov doesn't help either! It's still a black screen with just the audio. Is there anyway I can change it to an .mov file or something during export? Please help!

  • IMovie MPG Trouble

In iMovie, for some reason iMovie lets me import MPG or MPEG files, and its only from a selection of videos I recently imported. However, I'm not able to import older video MPG files. What is making this happen?

    What am I doing wrong?
You are trying to import a file which is not editable in iMovie '08. If you want to import such files they must first be converted to an "edit" compatible format. Use a file conversion application like iSquint (free), MPEG Streamclip (free), FFmpegX (donation-ware), Visual Hub (pay-ware), etc.

  • Imovie 8 troubles

  • Imovie transfer troubles.

How come when I created a movie in imovie on the ipad and transefered it to my laptop to burn a dvd, when I put the dvd in to play it on my 1080HDi t.v. the video was stretched too large and did not fit the screen, how do i fix this?

Yeah, I spent about three hours last night combing this board for solutions before posting; checked the iMovie preferences (and tried every conceivable variation of buttons, just to make sure), checked the midi setup--on my machine, I don't have any option but 44,100. Nothing seems to work.
Went so far as to trash iMovie and reinstall it off of the Panther install disks. Same problem.
Let me toss one other strange quirk into the mix, though not iMovie related, it could have roots in the same issue... I've got a training CD that came with Adobe CS2 which will not play audio, either. All the user interface sounds click, buzz, and ding appropriately, but the audio channel of the actual video itself does not. (Tech Support even sent me a replacement CD to see if that was the problem.) Yet, quicktime movies from the web play just fine.
    I'm definitely stymied here.

  • IMovie exporting troubles.

I was trying to export a movie in iMovie. The film was shot in NTSC DV and the animation was exported to .mov. When I went to export the movie into .mov everything showed up except the animations. The animations show up if I first export them from .mov to .DV and then insert them into iMovie but the picture quality is awful. Very choppy too. Does anyone know how I can use the .mov files and export them successfully? Any help you could give would be much appreciated.

  • Could Compressor alleviate my iMovie output troubles?

    Hi all,
I've posted before about how terrible my blacks look when I output movies in iMovie 11.  The blacks, and other dark colors, have a shimmering quality to them that is extremely distracting.  Frankly, it ruins scenes with dark colors.  The response in my queries has generally been that nothing can be done.
I'm wondering if I could use Compressor to output iMovies.  Is this possible?  I'd rather spend $50 than $299 to get clean looking video.  I read that Compressor can be used with videos made outside of FCP, but I'm not sure how I could actually transfer a RAW iMovie edit into Compressor.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
    Best,
    Taylor

Thanks for your reply. Actually I can't post a link - the subject matter is somewhat confidential - it is a police training video for reserve recruits in how to write traffic citations. The content probably isn't all that confidential but it would be improper for it to get out into the web. The problem you mentioned is what I thought it would be. I can borrow a PC and see what results I get with it.
The real problem is that 99.5% of the people who are suppose to be watching it are probably running PCs.
