IMovie Delay When recording

Does anyone see a delay when recording with the built in camera?
While the camera is recording there is about a second delay to the time I see it on the screen.
Can someone tell me if this is normal because I don't remember having it with Tiger?

Thnx for your help and from what i can now see is that there is a delay between when i press record and when the timer at the top appears, but this is no longer causing problems with footage being missed because of the error.
Thanks,
Angus

  • Microphone delay when recording

Hello people of the creative community I'm writing to you about my soundcard, let me start from the beginning. See I bought a 5.1 soundblaster sound card and I used it for recording music and music playback and it worked perfectly. Ok about a month later the outlet on the soundcard got broken because the mic cord got pulled to hard while it was still plug into the internal soundcard, so i went out and bought a new soundcard only this time I bought the 24 bit 7.1 soundcard and everything installed perfectly only now when I try to record theres a delay in the vocals when I'm recording and I was wondering if there was something I could change in the configuration options that would fix this problem

If your 24-bit card is Live! 24-bit then
    - if you're using ASIO compatible software for recording --> instal Asio4All drivers
Use ASIO/Asio4All drivers with latency set as low as possible (least 5-10 ms when recording, 10-50 ms while mixing).

  • Delay when recording audio compared to my midi click

Im using my Powerbook G4 1.5G and a Presonus Firebox to record audio with a midi click. I´m using the firebox mixer for monitoring and have switched off logic software monitoring. I have no latency when listening while recording, but when listening to the recorded file, it´s delayed compared to the pre-recorded click loop.
This is what I don´t understand. Why is the recorded file delayed? I have the delaycompensation off. It does not matter if I record on the internal disk or a Lacie external firewire disk.
I have a G4powermac and a motu 2408 mk3 with no problems like this what so ever.
Should i do a midi signal output correction? Is this really necessary on a setup today? Why do I not have the same problem on my G4 Powermac?
I hope somebody have an idea.

there is always some latency when the signal goes thru the computer.
you can do a test and determine how much delay you are seeing and then
    go to:
    audio/audio hardware & drivers/drivers
and in the recording delay box put in the amount to be compensated for.
With my setup i fugured out that I had 57 ms of delay.

  • How do I fix the Audio Delay when recording Voiceovers?

I've been recording voiceovers in Final Cut Pro X and noticed that its a huge delay in the audio when I play it back. The recording is like a second or two behind making the voiceovers sound wayyy off to whats actually goin gon in the video. Is there any fix to this or is this a hardware issue? I'm running Final Cut Pro off of an External harddrive since my Macbook Pro can't handle the program as well. Its a 2009 17 inch. 4 Gigs of ram....150 Gigs of storage space left running on Mavericks. Any info is appreciated.

The VO or the video is a connected clip. You can trim it and move it according to your needs. Or do I misunderstand the issue?

  • Ffmpeg sound delayed when recording screen

Again, apologies for opening multiple questions, but I feel these things are best addressed in separate threads:
    I am using this command:
    ffmpeg -f alsa -i hw:0 -f x11grab -s wxga -r 25 -i :0.0 -qscale 31 /tmp/out.mpg
I am trying to do a screencast and have noticed that even though I set the lowest quality, I still get a 1-2 second delay in audio into my feed. Does anyone know what I have to do to get rid of this delay?
    Thanks!

hi stressat, thanks for all that! I tried your examples, with the following results:
    ffmpeg -f alsa -ac 2 -i hw:0 -f x11grab -r 30 -s wxga -i :0.0 -acodec pcm_s16le -vcodec libx264 -vpre lossless_ultrafast -threads 0 output.mpg
playing back the above with "mplayer output.mpg" yields error:
[AO OSS] audio_setup: Can't open audio device /dev/dsp: No such file or directory
    AO: [alsa] 48000Hz 2ch s16le (2 bytes per sample)
    Video: no video
    Starting playback..
followed by squeaky noises out of the speaker. No idea why mplayer chooses OSS, after all I selected alsa? Also, as you can see, no video, even though I do have x264 installed.
    Your second example:
    ffmpeg -f x11grab -i :0.0 -s wxga -r 30 -b 6500 -bt 712k -sameq output.mpg
Playback shows only part of my screen, but bigger as if it had been switched to 640x480 before recording. Odd.
Didn't try fbdev as I want to record an X session. No idea why the video in the first example won't record, maybe I have to play with a different codec? I am using a fairly recent laptop, so I shouldn't have an issue (Aspire AS3810tg)
Thanks for your help so far! It is very much appreciated, even if I may not ever find the right settings...
I also took a peek inside /usr/lib/x264.h but that didn't enlighten me at all about what other options I could try passing to the library...

  • IPhone 4s Voice Memo App has 5 second delay when the record button is pressed. When it starts recording, it goes from 0 seconds to 5 or so seconds recorded. This happens randomly and often and sometimes has the delay but starts at zero. Solution Anyone?

After iOS 7 update, my iPhone 4s Voice Memo App has 5 second delay when the record button is pressed. When it starts recording, it goes from 0 seconds to 5 or so seconds that it shows has recorded. This happens randomly and often, sometimes it will have the 5+ second delay but starts recording at zero seconds. Besides the delay it has been working fine as far as saving and playback is concerned. I have plenty of storage on the phone itself and it NEVER had this problem before I updated to iOS 7. I've reset the phone a couple times by holding down the power and home buttons at the same time. The reason I have an issue with this is that I'm always recording song ideas, melodies, and scratch takes; what I'm saying is when I come up with an idea I need to be able to know that when I hit record it will start right then so I don't forget anything that has just popped in my mind.
Does anyone have a solution or suggestion?
    Thanks

  • Importing to iMovie: How do I use an external usb mic when recording with the built-in FaceTime HD Camera?

    Hello all
I'm scheduled to work with a friend this week; I'm going to help him make a simple audition DVD.  I promised him I had the necessary equipment and such.
I was importing from the webcam using iMovie.  If I can't use my external mic to record for the video, there is more involved in the editing process.   I was hoping to record the video and audio into one package.  I'm using the built-in FaceTime webcam on my macbook pro and a ZoomH1 on usb.
I've tried changing the audio in system preferences: input to H1.  This works when recording with audacity or anything else.  I even changed the input on FaceTime to H1.  There aren't any preferences I can find in iMovie to change the input for importing video directly from the webcam.
How do I change the audio input for direct import on iMovie?
    OR
Is there something else I can do to have HD video and HQ audio captured in one video file on my macbook pro?
I suppose I can record the video and audio separately but that is usually much more involved.  This is why I got this usb microphone lol.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Seth

I just found using QuickTime Player to record a movie works great.  I can easily change the audio input.  iMovie is silly. lol
If I missed anything let me know.

  • Using an external microphone when recording in iMovie?

I've been trying to find a way to use my external USB microphone (MXL 990 USB) when recording a movie into iMovie when in the Camera Import window. I have the option to use it when I go under the Voiceover menu, but I can't find anything in iMovie or System Preferences that lets me record from it (even when I change the Input in System Preferences to the USB mic) for regular movies. It always uses the built-in mic no matter what I try. How can I use the external mic??
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    -Ryan

    Ryan--
I've been having the same issue with the same USB mic and I got it to work today. Here's what did the trick:
In previous tries, I had been using the "front" USB port (of the two USB ports on the left side of my machine) on my MacBook unibody with OS X 10.6.1.
I simply tried switching the MXL 990 USB mic to the "back" USB port and the mic now works when I capture video in iMovie from my built-in camera and the MXL 990 mic.
Of course I already made the adjustments (as you have) in System Prefs to the USB Mic---there is recognizes the MXL 990 USB.
I hope this also works for you.
    Sincerely,
    Joe

  • Built-in iSight video is jerky when recorded into iMovie.

    Hello,
When I record video in iMovie directly from my built-in iSight, the resulting video is rather jerky - it doesn't look like the frame rate is slow, it's just that if I move my arm quickly, for example, while it may be a smooth motion in real life, the recorded video has little stutters in the motion, almost if some of the frames are out-of-order.  I don't have this issue when using iChat - everything looks fine there. I have a MacBook Pro 17-inch (Mid-2009), with iLife '09, Mac OS X 10.6.7, 4 GB RAM, and about 100 GB of free space on my hard drive.  Everything is completely up-to-date via Software Update, and I just ran Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility last week.  The last time I recorded into iMovie, I didn't have any other applications running on the computer, and it still happened.  The computer was sitting stationary on a table.  I was using a professional microphone through a FireWire interface, and the audio recorded perfectly - it was just the video that had issues.  The audio and video stayed perfectly in-sync the whole time, too.  The video looked jerky in iMovie immediately after recording, and still looked jerky after being uploaded to YouTube.  I've seen other people's videos on YouTube that exhibit this behavior, and they generally look fine if I go down to a lower resolution for playback, so I'm guessing I'm not alone - it could either be an iSight issue or an iMovie issue.

Sorry, I meant when I use the 'Q' command to put the video onto the storyline. I use the Import files to bring the files into my library of videos and it looks fine there before using 'Q' to stack the video onto the storyline. 99 percent of the time it works fine, it just has this flipped error when building multi-video composites, it has never happened when I build a normal video project.

  • Internal mic poor quality when recording in iMovie

I noticed exceptionally poor quality of internal mic when recording acoustic guitar piece on iMovie, with the built in iSight camera. Technically, the sound is called "Phasing" - it sounds like a slow 'whoosh' over all of the audio.
After investigation, I have found the cause to be the Ambient Noise Reduction algorithm added by Apple.
To remove this - go to:
    System Preferences
    Sound
    Input
    *uncheck* 'use ambient noise reduction'
    Problem solved....
Now my question - does anyone know how to use the iSight (built in) and simultaneously and synchronously record audio using an External Mic - eg the Blue "Snowball" - which is a USB mic.
In theory, the mic should plug in and then show up as an external device, but when I select iSight camera as my video source - the Powerbook automatically assumes that I want to use the internal mic as my audio source.
Have tried to go to Sys Prefs and change 'Input' to USB - but no option to do so
    All help appreciated
    SK

    Hi thanks for the response
unfortunately, it's got nothing to do with MIDI (which is just a series of controller information)
The Blue 'Snowball' External mic is essentially a 'USB Device' and should be recognised as such by the Mac. The data will come in as 16bit, 44.1khz AES bit stream and then be assigned a destination.
The problem is that iMovie does NOT allow me to separate the iSight camera from recording with 'internal mic'
I want a way of finding how to seperate them - and then assign the USB mic to be associated with the iSight camera - giving me iMovie/iSight videos - with PROFESSIONAL sound
sorry if i didn't make this clear
    thanks again

  • High pitch whine when recording audio & voiceover in iMovie

I have read other posts on similar issues but found no resolution
    Issue:
When recording video in iMovie there is sometimes a high-pitched whine which renders the video useless.
The problem was intermittent ... annoying but I wokred around it by re-recording the video enough times to finally get a "clean" copy.
Now I am recording voice-overs for some clips and the awful whine is present in ALL the voice-overs.
I have tried the "trick" of using brighter light.  No joy.
I have tried adjusting the microphone settings.  No joy.
THis is an older macbook ... so I can't trade-in for a new one on warrantee.
Is Mac's internal microphone defective?  I have read enough other people have similar issues to think this.
I am doing educational videos.  My initial joy at being able to record a video on my macbook is changing to despair as I have wasted hours of time on tech problems like this.
    Anyone have a real fix?
Is the built-in camera and mic just shoddy junk which doesn't work well?
    Thank you

Did you do the usual stuff, such as reset PRAM?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
There are some sound settings in PRAM, although I think it's only for sound output.
Also, as a test, I would create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
Log out and log in to the new account (do not use Fast User Switching). In the new account, try recording something using QuickTime, and note if this problem recurs. If it does not, you have eliminated a few possible causes, such as a problem with the overall system installation or a hardware issue, and isolated the problem to something in your normal user account.

  • No audio when recording a movie on iMovie?

I recorded a movie of myself as an intended blog video for YouTube but there is no audio when I play it back.
I have checked System Preferences to ensure built-in microphone settings are good and they are.
    I have a 2011 Macbook Pro with up-to-date software.
I found my similar posts online to mine but no answers.
    Operating System 10.7.5
Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi
This is a bit unclear to me.
    No audio when recording
No Video-editing program I know off play any feedback (at standard settings) while recording. FinalCut is even worse that it doesn't play the sound while importing from Camera either (one need to connect speakers to the Camera-audio-out to get this)
So first - I'm not sure if You can get audio out while recording in iMovie at all.
    BUT
If there is no sound - When Your captured video is played back - then the problem is more severe and I would start with.
    • Trashing iMovie pref and cache files
    and see if that helps.
Please - be more descriptive - so that one can do the same actions to see if Your problem is Yours only or if it is the same on more Macs.
    Yours Bengt W

  • I tried to import a perfectly crisp unpixelated screen recording to iMovie and when it imported it became very pixelated and fuzzy I tried exporting it but it was still fuzzy! I looked back at the original recording that wasnt imported and it wasnt fuzzy.

I tried to import a perfectly crisp unpixelated screen recording to iMovie and when it imported it became very pixelated and fuzzy I tried exporting it but it was still fuzzy! I looked back at the original recording that wasnt imported and it wasnt fuzzy.

I solved it. When I imported I hit the optimise large button instead just stay to the original.

  • Audio Delayed When Exporting To Camera

When exporting the movie to my camera, the audio is not quite synced with the video on the Mini-DV tape. I have determined the offset to be about 8 frames. If I then import that video, extract the audio, and then move it to the left 8 frames, it is then synced with the video again. If I encode the project with Toast after I have it synced, and then play the result on the Mac with the DVD Player, it is fine. But if I export it to the camera again, the audio is shifted again on the Mini-DV tape. I have a G4 dual 450 Mhz running OS 10.4 (the latest) with the latest version of iMovie and exporting to a Sony DCR-TRV900 via the firewire.

"..When recording it back to Mini-DV tape this way, is there a significant amount of loss of data even though it is coming over the firewire connection vs the normal export function?.."
No data loss, Gary. This is the proper way to export your edited movie.
You DO get data loss when transferring to a DVD, as a DVD is encoded differently from DV ..the MPEG encoding of a DVD involves compression of the data, leaving only information about the differences between frames of video, instead of keeping the content of all the frames.
You DON'T have any such loss when exporting ('Saving') back to miniDV tapes, as the exact same data which was copied from the tapes, when importing into iMovie, is sent back out to a tape.
There's no data loss, and there should be no audio delay. You can then import again from such a tape and there'll still be no loss. But re-importing from a DVD will produce data loss, as the decompression from MPEG to DV cannot completely rebuild all the data which was in the compressed MPEG data stream on the DVD.
So save your edited work back to tape, Gary, in case you ever need to 'reprise' it, and only create DVDs for sending through the mail, or to present your video with fancy interactive menus, or so that you can easily find particular 'chapters' in your video.

  • Can i zoom in when recording video on ipad

How do i zoom in when recording video on an ipad. I am aware of the 3 finger tap to zoom in when watching video but it is the recording of video that i am interested in. If not is there an app to facilitate this?
    Many thanks

Well, not directly. With iMovie you can zoom in afterwards, but that is expensive. I am annoyed that it cannot, but to take a regular picture you can do that perfectly.vjust pinch the screen, and it will zoom on camera.
