IMovie Disabled

I have been using iMovie with an older OS X version, something prior to Panther (can't remember which it was). For a while I stopped using iMovie. Then I purchased Panther and installed it on my iBook. When I tried to use iMovie, however, I found that it was no longer on my computer. The icon had disappeared from the Applications Folder. When I tried to install it from the packages disk in my Panther installation set, I get a message that iMovie cannot be installed on this computer. The list of packages available on the Panther Installation Disk 2 shows iMovie dimmed out, with the notation "disabled" next to it.
As a solution, I purchased the iLife disk and tried to install it, but I get the same error message that I cannot install iMovie on this computer.
Can anyone explain to me what might have happened, and how I can install iMovie on my computer?

when installing a new system, you have some options, one is "clean install"… that erases all content on your drive.
and, iLife is not part of a new system - iLife is sold seperately; the installer disk have probably an "updater" - but, when erased, nothing's there to update...
(iLife+MacOs are only on repair disk packages, which come with every Mac to reinstall the whole package of existing system & apps)
... just a guess....

  • IMovie disabling Mac audio?

I have no idea how this is happening, but every time I open iMovie '08, my output audio is disabled. If I try to turn the volume up or down on the MacBook, I get a transparent black sound picture, and under it is a "x"-like symbol. Even when I go to system preferences, the output audio bar isn't "moveable". If I close iMovie, this persists until I log out and log in. Has anyone else gotten this problem? If so how do you fix it?

Ah, never mind. My headphones disabled the sound output. x3

  • Mavericks iMovie - Disable scene detection

Greetings - I am in the process of converting old VHS tape footage into movies via iMovie 2013 (i.e. Mavericks).  So I am using the Import feature to import the footage.  The problem is that for some reason iMovie keeps breaking up my imported footage into multiple segments.  I want it to stop doing this.  I just want to import 1 clip of the entire VHS tape so that I can trim it the way I want, edit it, etc.  The multiple scenes make it much tougher to work with.
Is there a way to disable this?
    Thanks in advance - Mark

Let me be a little more specific.  I have a Panasonic AG-1980 professional tape deck that I am using to convert old family VHS tapes into movies (for our iPads, Macs, etc.).  The audio/video is being imported into iMovie 2013 via Firewire 800 to a MacBook Pro 17".  When I use the Import (capture) feature of iMovie 2013 the footage IS being imported correctly as a new scene BUT it's being broken up into many segments, which I don't want.  I just 1 clip from beginning to end.  Then I'll cut and edit it the way I want.
Is there a way to disable iMovie breaking up the import into multiple segments?
    Thanks!

  • Preview disabled, importing clips from imovie

I just got a Canon Optura 60 video camera.
I'm in a hurry to get the clips into final cut and the log and capture procedure is time consuming and confusing.
plus my preview is disabled in the log and capture window and I just read a long thread about this problem.
it seems to conclude that the solution is to deinstall quicktime 7 reinstall quicktime 6, which I can't do with 10.4.
I already figured out how to easily get the clips out of the camera and into iMovie, but I want to edit in Final Cut. I have a LaCie 250gig hard drive for media storage.
Is there an easy way to import the clips from iMovie to final cut pro HD 4.5? thanks

so far, by logging in the clip I even got preview to work, and the final cut is moving the clip around in the camera. but I still haven't managed to actually capture the clip. when I try capture now, it justs waits for time code.
when I log in the clip and click on capture clip, the clip appears in the preview window, and then I get an error message: "unable to locate a specified timecode. you may have specified a time code with insufficient room for a pre/post roll operation"
so how do I enter the time code?
or could it be that I did not enter time and date on video camera?
If anyone knows of a step by step book for idiots that says 1, plug in firewire, 2 go to log and capture, and so on, I would happily buy it.
    thanks ever so much

  • How can I stop iMovie from making thumbnails of clips from past projects when opening the program to digitize new clips for new project. i have looked in the preferences and couldn't figure out what to disable.

How can I stop iMovie from making thumbnails of clips from past projects when first opening the program to digitize new clips for a new project. It takes forever for it and is very annoying. I have looked in the preferences and couldn't figure out what would disable this problem.

You do not need to move your cursor much when pressing the mouse button to cause the tab to tear-off/tear-away into a new tab. No "sensitivity" setting that I am aware of. The tab in the new window can be dragged back to the original window.
To disable the feature, install this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bug489729-disable-detach-and-t/
*Read the information on the above page
*Set options for the add-on: Add-ons > Extensions, click Options next to the specific Extension (the 2 options are defined/explained in the above page).

  • Archive All disabled in iMovie 09

I need to "Archive All" videos from my flip video recorder, but the button is disabled. Why is it disabled ? How do I enable it ?
    Thanks in advance.

There are certain camera which shoot AVCHD. Archive All lets you preserve an identical copy of your AVCHD files on disk in case you ever need the raw files again. This is necessary for two reasons. First, the AVCHD files are converted to Apple Intermediate Codec when you import them to iMovie. This makes the files size from 4 to 10 times larger. So the Archive function makes it convenient to keep un original, highly compressed copy. Second, iMovie will not import a standalone mts file. It needs the full folder structure of the camera to do an import.
If your camera records in DV or h.264, there is no need for Archive All, because the file imported in the Event is the same as the file on the camera.

  • IMovie 10.0.3 on OSX 10.9.4 speed controls disabled on new projects

    Hi,
Since iMovie 10.0.3 / OS X 10.9.4, the speed controls are disabled / greyed out for all clips added to new projects.
However, I can still use the speed function on existing projects created prior the upgrade.
Video Clips were shot with iPhone 5 and are imported from iPhoto.
Do anyone experience the same issue ?
And is there a workaround to this problem ?
    Thanks.

    *** update ***
This bug only applies to new projects.
I can still use the speed function on existing projects created prior the iMovie/OS X upgrade.
I've just updated iMovie to 10.0.4 but the problem remains.
Do anyone experience the same issue ?
And is there a workaround to this problem ?
I found a workaround for this issue, but it's neither convenient nor elegant. You have to duplicate and old project, created prior the last OS X update or prior the iMovie 10.0.3 or 10.0.4 upgrade, and remove all clips off the duplicated project, and there you have a clean project were all clips you'll add will be speed controls capable.
    Thanks.

  • Disabling Automatic Scene/Clip Detection in iMovie 8.0.5 (iLife '09)

I can't seem to find a solid answer to this anywhere.
As far as I can tell, iMovie has taken away the ability to disable Automatic Scene Detection.
See, I have several old videos that I've ALREADY edited and printed back to tape. Now I'm trying to re-import these old movies so that I can share them online.
However, when I import from my camera, iMovie is splitting up my edited movies into its own separate clips which are ordered by date.
It's quite annoying! As far as I can tell I would have to reorganize all of these clips and essentially re-edit them. I decided to just bite the bullet and reorganize my clips, however when doing this, the music in my original movies isn't exactly consistent when jumping between clips.
That said, is there any way to import video without iMovie automatically splitting up my clips???
    Thanks!

Yes you would need QT Pro c/w QT7, however for much the same price you can upgrade to Snow Leopard which comes with QTX, which allows video, audio and screen recording without additional plug-ins.

  • Is iSight camera recording disabled on the latest version of iMovie for Mavericks?

Using the latest version of iMovie for Mavericks, can we record directly from iSight camera, or the software only allows videos imported from HD Cameras and PhotoBooth?

    Use the import button.

  • IMovie stabilization feature disabled

I have imported my 1080p 24fps video and I don't have the option to analyze it for image stablization.  I have attached a screen shot and you can see the image stablization featured is greyed out.  Also there is no option to run analyze on an event from the file menu either.

I'm assuming you are using iMovie 10 (?).  In iMovie 10 you can only stabilize a clip by selecting it in the timeline, not in the event pane.
I'm afreaid your screen shot doesn't display - you need to use the camera option (camera icon in top of posting window).
    Geoff.

  • IMOVIE : After stabilizing my project window because disabled!?

Can anyone help, Im trying to complete a imovie project and every time i try to stabilize a video clip i lose the project window to see what i have stabilized ; in addition when restarting imovie i lose all my work as a result of that!
Is there any solution out there for me?

What is the codec if the clip that you are stabilizing?
Hint... Right click on the clip in your event. Select "Reveal in Finder". In the Finder, right-click on the clip and select "Open-With...QuickTime Player".
In QuickTime Player, select Window/Inspector and tell us what is listed next to the word "Format:"

  • Disabling audio fading in iMovie '09

Whenever you drag in or split up a clip in iMovie '09, it automatically applies to a half-second fade-in and fade-out on the ends of the clip to the audio. I do editing that relies a lot on finesse, word splicing, etc. and it is annoying to have to ctrl-click each video or audio clip, go to audio settings, and click off the fading. Is there a way to make it default to having NO fading? (0.0 seconds). The lowest I seem to be able to make it as a default is 0.5.

If you have to do this to a lot of clips, you may be able to do this with copy/paste. I haven't tried it for the audio fade so you will have to test it. Try this:
    1) Select a clip. Open the inspector to the Audio Tab. Set to Manual and 0.00 fade.
    2) Select the same clip. Select EDIT/COPY (or right-click/COPY)
    3) Select EDIT/SELECT ALL
    4) Select EDIT/PASTE ADJUSTMENTS/AUDIO ADJUSTMENTS
    Worth a try.
