IMovie doesn't see photos in my iPhoto events

I opened iMovie to work on a new project.
1. Can't see how to create a new iMovie event.
2. iMovie sees my iPhoto events but shows only a few photos in an event that has 200. What's up with that?

Don't know about #2, but to create a new event in an opened Library go to file menu and select new event. Also option N works.

I am having a problem when I try to select a photo or itunes song in Imovie or other programs. I get a window with grey lettering that says: "Open Itunes to populate this list" or "Open iphoto to see photos from your iPhoto library in this list.  I have tried relaunching programs and nothing appears. Seemed to start happening a while back after one of my system upgrades.

After a a lengthy conversation with Apple Tech. ($20), my problem seems to be solves. The Iphoto problem solved by trashing the plist file. The Itunes was more involved. We had to create a new Itunes folder and import the files into the new folder; and then import the playlists.

  • IPhoto doesn't see photos from my iPhone

This problem just started happening a few weeks ago --
    First, the hardware --
An older MacMini that is NOT upgraded to Lion because it is single core (and hence is not connected to iCloud)
    iPhoto '11, version 9.2.1
    iPhone 4S with OS5.01
    Now, the problem --
iPhoto is not recognizing any new photos I take.  The photos are on the phone in the camera roll and are uploading to photostream but that does me no good since I don't have iCloud on my computer (because I don't have Lion).  And iPhoto is recognizing that my iPhone is connected via USB -- it just says there are no photos (new or old) on it.  Image capture is the same -- sees the device but doesn't see the photos.
When did this start?  I'm not sure -- either (a) when I upgraded from my 3GS, which was running OS5, to the 4S OR (b) when I upgraded the 4S to 5.01.
In any event, I really want to get my photos from my phone to iPhoto -- after all, one of the selling points of the 4S was how great the camera is.  Well, if I can't download the photos to my computer, what good is it?
    Help anyone?

Computer sees the iphone, it just doesn't see the photos. This happened once before and I spent more than an hour with tech support fixing it - a real pain..... I'm hoping there is a quicker fix.

  • IMovie doesn't see any iPhoto videos

    Hi,
I can't seem to get iMovie to recognize any videos that are in my iPhoto library. This used to work easily. Any suggestions?
How do I access all of my iPhone videos that get imported into iPhoto for editing in iMovie?

    Hi maxmaxie,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
If you are not able to import videos from iPhoto to iMovie, I would first suggest using the steps in the following article.

  • Can't see photos outside of iphoto

So I have quite a few photos uploaded to iphoto. I can see all of them in their separate events in iphoto. However, if I go to gmail or facebook to upload some of those photos, i can only see events older than about 3 months (and therefore, photos older than that). Is there some setting that i'm inadvertantly triggering which is only letting me see some of my events in other contexts?

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Appletv doesn't see Photos app library, why?

After updating to the new Photos app from iPhoto my apple tv doesn't see my computer's photo library.  iTunes doesn't see it either to choose which folders to share for home sharing.
Is this a drawback to the new Photos app?
    Thanks

iTunes is up to date, I don't even see the Photos library in the pull down on the home sharing prompt.  Is it because my photos library is on an external drive?  iPhoto had no problem seeing this.  Do I have to go back to iPhoto or will Apple week this?

  • No laughing...  I have a Canon ZR 300 camcorder.  I can not see it when connected via firewire in system profile and iMovie doesn't see it either.  Any suggestions?

I have an old Canon ZR 300 camcorder that I'm trying to connect to my 17" MBP via 9 pin firewire (its a 4 pin to 9 pin cable as the MBP doesn't have a 4 pin firewire - figured it was backwards compatible).  Anyhow, iMovie 09 doesn't see the camcorder.  I checked under System Profile and then under Firewire and it doesn't see it either.  In fact I get some red letters about not seeing firewire devices.  I'm running Lion.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Should using mixed wifi and ethernet clients on a timecapsule work?  if so is it a feature I can use out of the box so to speak?
    Thanks
No a TC cannot do what you want.. it is now in dumb stupid wireless join mode.. and it turns off the ethernet ports.. in case you want to use the TC as a wireless bridge to multiple clients which is plainly wrong.. (only airport express is allowed to do this since it has only one ethernet port).
Welcome to Apple. (The plainly wrong above is a figment of Apple imagination.. of strict network protocols.. but unhelpful for a home device. maybe also to encourage sales of expresses.)

  • Lightroom doesn't see photos on Canon EOS

I'm trying to import photos from a Canon EOS 30D into Lightroom 1.4.1 running on Vista.
When I click on Import I get the option of choosing the source -- either the Canon or a "choose files.." option. But when I click on the Canon I get a Warning message saying "No photos were found to import". If I select "choose files..." I can navigate to the Canon, but Lightroom doesn't see the files on the camera.
If I navigate to the camera using a My Computer window then I can find the files and drag them onto the PC and then import into Lightroom using the import from disk option. But it would be great if someone knew how to import them direct from the camera. Any ideas? Thanks!

2nd solution : as the EOS generally don't have mass storage mode, buy a card reader for a few bucks, and read your CF card in it.
It will be wayyyyyy faster and more convenient (battery drain, among other problems) than the camera/PC cable.

  • IPhoto doesn't see photos in the library

Hope someone can help. The external hard drive holding my iPhoto library accidentally disconnected while I was working in iPhoto. Now, iPhoto does not see any photos in it, even though that library shows up as a choice when I reconnect it. Finder shows there are hundreds of gigabytes of data in the file, so I know the photos are there (I hope). But every time I try to switch to that library, it doesn't show up in the left column like it used to, and iPhoto gives me the message -- to get started, connect a camera or import photos. How do I get iPhoto to see the pictures/files again?? I'm on iPhoto 9.6 with OS X Yosemite on a macbook pro. Thank you!!
    Evelyn

Backup your iPhoto library and  depress and hold the option and command keys and double click on the library on the EHD - keep the keys down until the first sid window comes up - rebuild your database

  • Iphoto on macbook pro doesn't see photos on iphone--how to move them off??

    Hi,
I have an iphone 5S (updated to latest version of iOS)  and a new macbook pro (retina), also updated.   I have plugged my phone into iphoto (version 9.6) and it says all pictures are downloaded but there are over 1000 photos on my phone and 140 videos, too.  How am i to bring these into iphoto if iphoto doesn't even see them???
    Thanks,
    A.

    It should look like this:
But if you are seeing cloud icon beside the device name, you cannot delete the photos from your iPhone using your Mac.  The delete button will be missing.
As to the number of photos and videos you are seeing on your iPhone.
In which albums do the photos and videos appear in the Photos.app on your iPhone?

  • ITunes doesn't see photos from iPhoto

It used to work OK, but now when I connect the iPhone (3G), iTunes launches (iPhoto too), starts syncing (uploads all the music again!), but the photo section says that the albums I have selected do not contain any photos.
I deleted albums, created new albums (in iPhoto) rebuilt the library in iPhoto, but still no update in iTunes.
Both iTunes and iPhoto files/data are held on an external file server, but I can see all files in each application.
This seemed to start happening after a full reset of the phone.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

This could be a problem with the albumdata.xml file in your iPhoto Library Folder. Quit iPhoto and remove the file from the iPhoto Library Folder, then launch iPhoto. It will recreate the file.
    If that doesn't work:
Remove any non-ascii characters in Keywords, Album or Photo titles - basically anything that's not a- z and 0 - 9. This includes &.
If that doesn't work then read this thread

  • Iphoto 9.4.2 doesn't see photos on camera

There are six photos on my card, but iPhoto tells me there are none. It previously said there were 27 others that I had deleted. I have tried accessing the photos with my cable and with a card reader.

Can you see the image files on the card in the Finder when using a card reader?  If so upload to a folder on the Desktop and then reformat the card in the camera.  Then try again.

  • What is going on?  I can't access my iPhoto files from any other programs.  It just says "Open iPhoto to see photos from your iPhoto Library in this list", but that doesn't work.  What changed?

All of a sudden I can't access my iPhoto files from any other programs (ie Photoshop, facebook etc.).  It just gives me this message below.  What the **** changed?  This wasn't happening yesterday.

    1 - close iPhoto.
2 - go to your Pictures folder and open the iPhoto Library package as shown below:
3 - locate a file named AlbumData.xml and move it to the Desktop.
    4 - launch iPhoto.
5 - relaunch the other programs and try the media browser again.

  • ITunes doesn't see Aperture Library - iMovie doesn't see Aperture Library

    Issues:
Nearly all of my videos in the Aperture/iPhoto library do not show up when I select iPhoto library option in iMovie and iMovie is unable to locate them in any other way.  Sometimes the option to select the iPhoto library is completely missing.
iTunes does not recognize my Aperture library, and I get the following message:
"Your Aperture Library could not be found. Open the preferences window in Aperture and enable the preference to share previews with other applications." After reading through forums and multiple Genius Bar appointments here is most of what I have done:
Created multiple new Aperture libraries, selected them in Aperture, rebooted, switched back and forth - Note:  iTunes DID recognize the new blank libraries
Booted Aperture with the Command + Option keys and run all three options to repair permssions and even rebuilt the database
Booted Aperture with the Option key and selected the library I was using all along (this worked for someone in a forum)
Opened iPhoto (not Aperture) and selected an option to share photos
Run "Verify Disk Permissions" many times under Disk Utility
Run "Repair Disk Permissions" many times under Disk Utility
    Reinstalled OSX
    Reinstalled Aperture
    Reinstalled iTunes
    Reinstalled iMovie
Run a virus and malware scan (no issues)
Verified that Aperture was set to share previews and had a Genius go through all of my options to ensure they were correct in iTunes, Aperture, and iPhoto
Have ran "Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs" from the Command + Option + R recovery partition multiple times.  Each time it just hangs for hours, the latest attempt ran for over 24 hours before I finally stopped it.
Oh yes, and I found and deleted the file com.apple.iApps.plist
None of these things fixed either of my issues.  According the the Genius at my last appointment, now I have to call Apple Care and pay to get support.  I must have misunderstood what the Genius Bar was about when I bought my Mac and why I purchased the One to One training.  Before I call Apple Care, I was hoping someone might have run across this and can help me.
I asked the Genius if I now need to just create a new Aperture Library and move all of my content to it (that was the last resort for someone in a forum); however, he was concerned that even if this might work that I probably have deeper permission and/or other issues that need to be addressed and that doing so would not fix the root cause.
Thanks for taking the time to read through this issue.

Understood.  I thought perhaps the period meant that I was finished and just needed to call Apple Care and fork out the fee.
The formats are primarily .MOV straight from the iPhone.  Since going to a Mac, I have pretty much given up on using my Sony Handycam for family videos due to the pains of having to locate, identify, convert, and export AVCHD video to watch on Apple TV.  It is just too easy to take video with my iPhone and import it and immediately watch it, although the quality is nothing close to a dedicated video camera, especially indoors and in lower light.  All of the video formats in Aperture are supported and most all of my older home videos and Sony Handycam videos are sitting on an external drive (hoping that one day I will have the time to figure out a decent workflow to access them after I work all of the bugs out of iMovie).  Great thought though.
All my content is managed.  After a handful of One-to-One sessions at the Apple Store, I finally learned that you could not reference videos in iMovie and had to either have them in the iMovie Events directory or in iPhoto (at least that was what she said).  Their solution was to import the videos into iPhoto so they could be easily accessed in iMovie.  After I had issues mentioned in this post their solution was for me to purchase Aperture that could handle larger libraries.  This was supposed to fix the issue and allow iMovie to see my videos.  When that didn't work they said that I needed to purchase Final Cut Pro.  I'm just a Dad who wants to make a few memorable home movies for his family and I don't think that I should have to purchase a $300 application, especially after paying a premium for my Mac and the iLife software, which I am deeply regretting.  But I digress.
I have repaired permissions again and am in the process of repairing the library and will rebuild it again if that doesn't work.  It is taking longer so I won't be able to post the results until a later time.  Definitely worth a shot to try this again.
If this doesn't work I will take the time to create a new Aperture library.  Like I previously mentioned, this was the last resort for another gentlemen who had a similar issue.  After doing this it might explain why the "Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs" from the Command + Option + R recovery partition is getting hung up and not working.  I'll post the results at a later date.  If I could save just one person the time, gas, and stress I've experienced it would be worth it.
One additional question?  I read a gentlemen's post that passionately argued against ever using iPhoto, Aperture, or iMovie to ever manage video files.  He suggested using folders and a file naming system similar to what I used when I was on a PC using Adobe Elements.  Do you have any thoughts on that?
For my situation, I have two concerns:
I'm afraid this would not allow me to watch the videos on Apple TV as simply as I can now (although I don't know this to be the case for certain).  If the videos aren't in my photo library, I'm not sure how I would be able to access them through Apple TV.
Since I'm a proud Dad I have hundreds of video files spanning many years, so I also don't want to lose the ability to quickly peruse my event library and find content that I want to import into a project in iMovie.  At one point I imported some video files to edit that weren't stored in iMovie, and I could only see the file name and date and had to guess if there was content on it that I wanted.  When you have hundreds of clips like I do that isn't practical.
He argued that these programs were never meant to manage content and worked much more efficiently using this method.  I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts.
    Thanks again.
