IMovie DVD audio no syncronized with video

Just prior to the holidays, I spent many hours creating my first iMovie project; a video of my nieces and nephews with old video dating from the period 1987-1999. I imported old VHS and Hi8 footage to my Sony DCR TRV30 digital camcorder, then edited the footage using iMovie 4.0.1. I added music, transitions, titles etc. and ended up with about a 40 minute video which contained 2.7 GB worth of data. I burned the movie to a DVD-R using iDVD. However, when I played the disc on my DVD player, the audio was about a second behind the video. I assume the problem occurred during the burn process, because when I reviewed the project in iMovie, the audio and video were "synced." Any suggestions or thoughts as to wha might have happened? Thanks in advance...

The solution:
Always use 16-bit/48kHz audio.

  • Monitoring audio in sync with video when capturing in FCP studio

Is there a way I can monitor audio in sync with video when capturing in FCP Studio? I know you can plug headphones into your tape deck but that sound is not in sync with the video in the capture window due to time delay. I tried plugging the headphones into my Powerbook but could not get any audio coming through these, nor audio through the Mac's inbuilt speakers.

The preview checkbox is ticked and the audio monitor indicates that sound is being picked up (the levels rise and fall) but I still can't hear anything! The audio/video sync on the external monitor is ok, but because there is a time delay between that and the video capture window, I can't use that as a reliable monitor for sound sync. If I could resolve the video sync problem there, then I could monitor the sound through the external monitor.

  • Re-attaching audio to sync with video??? can it be done in iMovie 09

I've searched all over the web and I'm stuck. I've detached audio from a video clip so I can use that audio as a voiceover on other video footage. However, I'd now like to pin or re-attached that audio to the new video clip so it doesn't move while I edit my project. Can't find a solution for this - there must be one. Note that I'm not referring to a background music track I've added. I'm referring to audio which I've detached and now wold like to attached to a new video clip/portion of the project. Thanks for any help!

can I take a music video from itunes an use it in my movie
Isn't that a little like taking a couple of pages from Shakespeare to use in your next novel?
I tried to import it but it seems to be in the wrong format or somthing.
Copy protection will do that to a file.

  • IMovie DVD audio stops in middle?

Imported a one hour video into iMovie 11 from our new JVC video camera then exported it to iDVD.
It made the chapters into menu scenes as expected.
However, in the last scene, the audio stops in the middle?
I don't think there is a secret make the audio stop in the middle of a clip setting I could have accidently clicked on?
I've used the advanced menu to delete and recreate the encoding with no luck.
I've exported an image file and used Disk Utility to burn it with no success.
I've gone back to iMovie and shared it to iDVD again with no luck.
The sound is there in iMovie and iDVD but not on the disc using DVD Player?
On top of my frustration, everything I try takes an hour or more of waiting...
Who removed export selected clip from iMovie?
Please don't make me have to go use a PC. I thought my new laptop was an upgrade?
I understand that DVDs are a thing of the past now--just fix the bugs, "one more build!"
iDVD used to be fun like HyperCard back in the day and now it is embarassing to see the apple logo on the menu screen as the audio stops and everyone grabs the remote to check the volume and blame the sound system. It has now become a disappointing waste of time--I should just go watch YouTube videos of laughing babies and cats...

    Hi Beverly
I have again created a disk image and the audio does not play half way through. I have since reloaded the audio on the corrupted half and am now creating another disk image and am burning at 4x as you suggested. If this does not work, do you think I should try reloading iMovie and iDVD again? I am using a Panasonic DVD player to play back the DVD, which I must admit does give me problems every now and then but I also have a cheapie Conia which believe me, plays everything and I have also tried play back on this, but still no go. Will keep you all posted, hopefully in a few hours. Thanks for your feedback.

  • Audio not tracking with video

    Howdy -
I've got an .avi file 13.1GB with a 1920 x 1040 image, frame rate is 29.97, audio source format is 32000Hz 16 bit stereo, project audio format is 32000Hz 32 bit floating point stereo, avg. data rate is 2.1 mb/sec, pixel aspect ration is 1.0. (This info was pulled from PE9>File>Get Properties)
When I edit the video in PE9, the video is all blurry and the audio sounds fine. I just burned a short DVD to see what it would look like, and the video is clear, but completely in a different spot than the audio. It is a power point presentation that was recorded in a .wmv format that I converted into the .avi.  I went through this before and was able to get a clear DVD by running it through MIcrosoft Expressions. Now that isn't working for me.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Penny

    Hi -
Thanks for your responses. I have spent the past few days converting the files to get them so they looked ok in the VLC player, and managed that, but still can't seem to get a good DVD.
It is a video created from a GoToWebinar online webinar.  The presentation was made in PowerPoint, so no other video involved.
Their instructions say to run their wmv file through Microsoft Expressions Encoder to re-format it.  I did that and then converted it into an avi file using Prism Video File Converter.  The videos look fine when I view them in the VLC media player.  The .avi file is blurry when it plays in Premier Elements, although the video and audio seem to track together. But when I try to burn a DVD, the video and audio are way off.  The wmv files won't open at all.
I'm pretty frustrated, and not at all that committed to doing it myself, if there is someone out there I could pay to do it. The edits are really minimal - just cutting a couple of seconds off of the beginning until it gets to the presentation.
But, because it is so simple, it seems like I should be able to do it.
I uploaded the files: http://www.how-to-quilt.com/articles/strip-piecing-webinar.php although when I try to play them, they crash ;-/
    Any clues?
    Thanks,
    Penny

  • Audio not sync with video using photo booth since os moutain lion was installed

Since OS Moutain Lion was installed my photo booth no longer function well, audio is not sync with video, the sound delay is obvious with the video outut wha can I do to correct this?

I've seen that problem in several threads, both here and in the Mountain Lion forum. I tried to replicate the problem but was unable to do so... so it's not a problem effecting all Macs. Try posting here - in the Mountain Lion forum - and see what you get as a search. There's one specific "More Like This" to the right on this thread but there doesn't seem to have been a solution posted.
    Good luck,

  • Audio not synced with video on movie downloads

The audio is not synced with video on movie downloads from the ITunes store.  I have downloaded many movies in the past from the same PC with no problem.

    Hi Jimmyjoefl,
I understand that you are having playback issues with videos you have purchased from the iTunes Store. After doing some research, I found the following resource that describes your exact symptoms:
Troubleshooting iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7 video playback performance issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1718
Here are some things to check if, when viewing a movie in iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7, you notice that a video appears distorted, intermittently pauses, or has audio that is out of sync with the image on-screen.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Audio not syncing with video in itunes

Just upgraded iTunes (to sync wiht my iphone 5C) -- after a few playbacks the audio stopped playing while video would continue (no issues with music or in any other video playback outside of itunes).  I turned off the equalizer, which returned the audio track to syncing with the video, except when i expand to full screen viewing -- the audio gets off track again and never catches up.  In looking through user comments this seems a frequent problem for iTunes with Windows, but I have OS X 10.8.3.

  • Audio sync problem with videos imported from iPod Touch

I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation that I used to shoot video at a family birthday party. When I imported the footage into iMovie '11, the audio is not in sync with the video (video is about two seconds behind audio) and there is only the left channel of audio. I verified that the video on the iPod plays just fine--no audio sync problem, both left and right channels work. I just upgraded to iOS 5 on the iPod Touch. The iMac is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
As a workaround, I can import the video into iPhoto instead. When I play the video in iPhoto, there are no audio sync problems and both channels of audio can be heard. I have imported other iPod Touch videos successfully into iMovie '11 in the past few months, but this has been the first time these problems have occurred. Any help would be appreciated.

Premiere cannot handle clips with variable framerate.
Your converted clips need to have constant framerate.
Otherwise use a converter like Handbrake.

  • DVD Audio Problem in main video

I have a 94 minute video clip that i am try to burn to dvd; however, when I burn the project i get a dvd that all the menu's work but the main video only has audio for the first 15 minutes and last 5 minutes. The video has been encoded to a quicktime .mov file with chapter information attached in quick time pro. I have tried all three encoding preferences, "best performance", "high quality", and "professional" all three gave me the same results. I have deleted the idvd project and redoing the whole thing 2 times. I have tried re-encoding the video once. I have also removed my preferences and started with a new preference file (.plist file for my user account). After two dvd's being wasted on this i have been encoding and saving the dvd's as dvd images to test before burning if that helps. So far I have been unable to locate my problem and fix it if anyone has any ideas or has experienced the same problem before and fixed it I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Thanks, after looking at that forum i found a link to another that had my question answered, i found that for some reason it does not like burning .mov files it only will burn .mp4, i found this out after re-installing quick time, encode the move two other times using .mov container and apple intermediate codex, kind-of bummed me out though i did not get anywhere near as high quality as the original with quality set a professional. Oh well guess i should look at upgrading to the pro app.

  • Audio Not Importing With Video Clip

My issue seems to be the same as another on this board, but it involves an MPEG file. In QuickTime Player the clip plays video and audio fine. But when I import the clip into iMovieHD 6.0.3, the audio doesn't play. Any suggestions?

iMovie is a video edit app meant to work with firewire connected miniDV/D8 camcorders
you try to teach the old dog new tricks..
    Streamclip (free)
    converts mpeg1 into something editable..
if you're tying to edit mpeg2, you need addtional Apple mpeg2 plugin (20$)
choose in Streamclip dv/dv-stream as export option...
due to the nature of mpegs, you will realize a (dramatic) loss of pic quality...

  • Audio not synced with video

I imported from avchd (Panasonic Lumix) format and the video was all speeded up and the audio was not in sync. I have imovie 08, 7.1.4. It seems I should be able to use it. Your feedback is appreciated.

I have seen this article around but there hasn't been a correct answer. I have the waterproof Panasonic Lumix TS2 and I upgraded to iLife 09 because the guy on the phone said that's the only way I could retrieve my videos. Then after doing so, my videos play way too fast and the audio seems normal. In the other forum topics like this they all say that you need to upgrade to iMovie 09, same with Apples response to the Lumix cameras, but I have it and it still doesn't work or fix the problem.
Love this camera, love my mac, but now I am hating both haha.

  • Audio not matching with video in videos

Hello,I recently built a new computer. When I go to play iTunes files the audio is way off of the video. An example being, a guy shuts a door on video and 2 seconds later I hear it. I've tested and know it's not the GPU. Youtube and my other videos play perfectly. My system has a 3.2 GHz core i3, 8GB or RAM, and Radeon HD 5670... it can definitely play SD video! Videos are not enjoyable for viewing and I really need help. Thanks!

Yes. I solved it with the latest catalyst update from AMD. Try updating whatever GPU driver you have. Sorry it's been months since I looked on.

  • Audio not sync with Video

I am using a Sony DVMC-DA1 to convert VHS tapes into Final Cut Express. After I finish capturing is says,
"The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape. This may cause the video and audio of these media files to be out of sync. Make sure the audio sample rate of your capture preset matches the sample rate of your tape."
I have looked in books and feel that I have tried everything. The audio is still not in sync with the video. I am out of ideas. Does anyone know how to fix this?

What is the audio settings of your sequence? It has to match that of the video you're importing
I'm not familiar with the unit you're using to import but basically, if your video is 16 Bit 48K then your sequence, your timeline, as to be the same, say NTSC (or PAL) DV. If the video is being captured at 12 Bit, your sequence should be NTSC (or PAL) 32K.
Having mismatched audio rates in your timeline will usually lead to out of sync audio

  • How to shift audio to sync with video

    Friends,
I have a clip (actually a collection of clips) that I exported from Final Cut Pro Express and imported into FCPX for editing.  I recognize that it's cumbersome but I prefer to edit in FCPX, even though I had to string together a bunch of separate clips for the export, thereby creating a long single clip.
The problem is that the audio is slightly out of sync with the video.  Is there an easy way to detach the audio and shift it about ten frames to the left?  If I do that, will I be able to use a blade to chop the long clip into smaller clips for editing?
    Thanks!
    Steve

Detach audio is something you do in the Timeline to detach the audio so it's completelky separate from the video and can be movede to wherever you want. The only way to reattach the video is to make it a compound clip. When you open in Timeline, the audio, even is shifted, remains attached to the video and still appears as a single clip in the Timeline. You can't detach audio for a clip in the browser.
