IMovie DVD

How do I burn a DVD from an iMovie project.  I'm using the latest iMoive version.

Share to File and change the dimensions to 480 in the next window and use that file with iDVD.

  • Cannot copy imovie DVD to a DVD recorder

I made some still images into a movie clip using imovie HD. Then I burned the clip to a standard definition dvd. The DVD will play on all my DVD players and recorders. Of course, since the DVD is DVD-R, Video mode, it cannot normally be copied on some recorders. Could not get a DVD-RW, to copy to my recorder hard drive either in the Video mode or the VR mode. One of my DVD recorder/players allows me to work around this and copy a DVD-R, Video mode DVD. However, this procedure would require me to copy the imovie clips to DVD, copy the dvd to the dvd recorder hard drive, then copy the clip from the hard drive to another dvd, and use that copy in my other recorder, which would then be able to copy it for combining the clips with other movies. Wastes two DVDs and is very complicated and time consuming.
So, to try and simplify the process I tried to copy the imovie DVD back to my video camera, JVC GMX-157, then copy from the camera to my recorder hard drive for combining the clips with other movies. However, when I try to copy to my video camera I get the message that the disc is copyright protected. Anybody got any idea why is this happening on my homemovie creations???

No, that's a mystery, since iDVD cannot make copy-protected DVDs!
I have no experience with what you are attempting, but have you tried feeding the DVD directly from your Mac to the DVD Recorder via the usual cables?

  • How can I turn my iMovie DVD into a quicktime video? The original is no longer saved on my mac.

I have made a handful of movies through iMovie. Burned them onto DVD and erased the original videos that were created years ago. I would like to take my DVDs and somehow put them onto my Apple TV. I'm assuming the answer would be to create them in quicktime. I'm having trouble and have a bad feelilng this idea can't be done. Please advise.
    Thanks.

    use the free tool Handbrake.
it offers presets to convert DVDs straight into an AppleTV-compliant format.

  • How can I convert Imovie DVD to work on a PC

I am trying to make a class video in imovie. I want to make DVDS for the kids that will play on PC's Dell Etc. or on their dvd players at home? How do I convert it in imovie to burn to a DVD that will play on a PC

    Hi
There are two levels on this Q:
    A. If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on Internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.
    B. If You got a DVD authoring program - then
Making better or worse DVDs still occurs
    • Brand of DVD matters - Cheap DVDs as Memorex and NoName known problem makers for VIDEO - I only use Verbatim
    • Type of DVD used - I use DVD-R as they also play on older DVD-players - and NEVER +/-RW as they usually gives lot's of problems
    • BURN SPEED - (Important esp reg. PC or playback on Mac that burned the DVD) - I set it down to x2 or x4 as this gives far less burn errors

  • IMovie DVD's won't play

I was trying to play some movies I made with iMovie 6 (I think - it's been awhile) today and the drive spins the disc and after about 15 seconds spits the DVD out without recognizing it. I opened Disk Utility during and before putting the DVD in and it doesn't recognize it. I had the same behavior with several of the same DVD's. They play in my DVD player fine and are in perfect condition (no scratches - they have all barely been used). I put in a commercial movie DVD and it loaded with no problem. Any ideas why I'm having this problem? Thanks.

    Hi,
It looks like this is a common problem. I am wondering if it is a bug or a stab at copy protection. Hidden copy protection. I can not read any data DVDs or burned DVDs. My drive read a DVD-RW but not a DVD-R. Like you said Commercial DVDs fine. CDs of all types fine.
I haven't tried making a DVD with iDVD yet and playing that.
    Interesting problem

  • Imovie dvd help needed! Please!

First time making a movie in imovie. I have it exactly the way I want it. Is there a way to burn the way it is in imovie? I really do not want to add any themes from idvd to it. Also, should I make a copy in imovie before trying to do something with it in idvd if there is no way to burn it as the way it is in imovie?
    Thank You

You cannot burn it from iMovie - for one thing it would never fit, nor play anywhere.
You need to let iDVD make a DVD of the movie, and if you don't want any themes:
    (From fellow poster Mishmumken: )
How to create a DVD in iDVD without menu (there are several options):
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Roxio Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    5. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:
    http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html
Our resident expert, Old Toad, also recommends this: there is a 3rd export/share option that give better results.  That's to use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option.  Then in iDVD go to the Media Browser and drag the movie into iDVD where you want it.
    Hope this helps!

  • How do you burn imovie DVDs in Lion?

I just bought a new i7 iMac with Lion, primarily to transfer my old videos to DVD.  While I see this iMac has iMovie 11, it doesn't come with any iDVD, and the old iDVD from Tiger will not work on it?  How am I supposed to burn copies of my final project? Is Apple scamming me, because I see iDVD comes with the $50 iLife app...

If you expect to use iDVD or iWeb in the future then get a boxed copy of iLife 11 while they are still available. AS Ziatron mentioned many have complained/asked Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iDVD.html or iweb.html and received a boxed copy. If you're an iWeb user then this might be of interest:
It is now apparent that iWeb, and iDVD, is no longer  supported by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
All of these issues can be solved with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
Apple has announced that iLife is now an unsupported product and those iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the boxed iLife 11 at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought. Personally, if I already didn't have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

  • How do i get my imovie dvd to play on my dvd player

I have made a movie on my imovie, and it will play on my macmini and my laptop but when I put it in my dvd player it says disc error.  How do I get it to play on all dvd players?

Send it to iDvd (or other DVD creation program, like Toast) to make a DVD viewable in your DVD player. Your iMovie that is stored on a DVD is, as you've found out, readable by computer, but doesn't have the DVD wrapper to play in a DVD player.

  • Imovie DVD to large, can it be compressed?

Hi all. This is a very basic question but it is coming from someone who has never used imovie. I have a finished movie I have to burn to a DVD. The movie is almost 10 GB! Is there anyway to compress the movie? Right now it may not even fit on some large capacity DVD-R's. I should not the DVD I have to burn was done in imovie HD. Is this the reason it is so large? The movie is about a 1/2 hr. long.
As a novice, what I don't understand is the size issue. People must make longer movies than 1/2 ones and have a method to burn them.
Please note, I only have imovie (HD). I do not have GoLive or any other editing software.
    Thanks

Good that you mentioned the length (time) of your movie.
To burn a DVD that can be used in any DVD player, you need to burn it with iDVD. I do assume, you do not just want to distribute the movie file, but create a DVD for "regular" use?
Import your movie, and be it the 10GB into iDVD. Before the actual burning process, iDVD will compress your movie accordingly. You must know, that the file format on regualar movie DVD is different from the file format you are working with while editing your movie. (I'll leave out the detail here)
A single sided DVD will hold up to 2 hours of animation, a double layer DVD up to four.
If you've never used iDVD, which I assume, check out Apples online tutorials, to which you are also guide either when you start iDVD or through the help menu.

  • How to make iMovie dvd with Toast and external burner

I have a powerbook G4 (without superdrive so have an external DVD burner) and Toast. But Toast wont allow me to drag iMovie file there. Help?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

You first have to make that iMovie project into a DVD project in iDVD, then save that as a disk image, and burn the disk image in Toast.

  • IMovie DVD Cannot be read by Bluray Player

How to resolve a problem with getting a DVD (with a correct DVD type) to play on a Samsung Bluray player that has IMovie files burned to it?  The problem is not the DVD type.  Could it be the settings for burning the DVD?

My Macbook does not have iDVD app.  There is a "Share" option in iMovie that allows you to export it to QuickTime as an mp4 (mpeg) file.  From there I used a free DVD burn app (iburn) that I downloaded, that did not offer any menu options other than to burn the video to DVD.  The DVD will play the video on the Macbook, but not my Samsung Bluray player.  So, my friend told me to convert the files to .mov, because Samsung does not recognize the other file types (based on their website specs).  I did that, but, it still didn't play on my bluray player.  It did however, play on my friends 2 players -- one of which happens to be a bluray player.  We then thought it might be the DVD type and tried every DVD type that my bluray manual says are ok.  Even though, my bluray manual says DVD+RW cannot play, it will play a slideshow that I created in iPhoto!  So, now I am wondering if the issue is still the file type OR perhaps, I need to use a DVD burner that will allow me to select specific options that might make a difference.  If the burner options don't matter, why then do DVD burners that are NOT free have options from which to choose?  Perhaps, there is something within those options that could help the situation.  I don't know.  I am frustrated and at a complete loss at this point.  Any thoughts??

  • IMOvie DVD Quality with jpg images

    Hi,
I put 130 High res jpgs into an iphoto album, and I then imported them into iMovie. Added two sound tracks, and then went to iDVD to create the DVD. I dont think that the quality is good at all, and I am wondering what I may be doing wrong ?
Can anyone tell me if there is a hig res setting in iMovie or an HD setting ?
I am burning to a -R DVD, and then playing back on my TV
    Thanx.

    Hi Tanko:
You have another option, edit all those HighRes jpegs in IMOVIE9 or FotoMagico.
If you use IMovie9, export as full to QT, then record the file to a USB thumdrive and play it thru the WD Media Player thru HDMI to your HighDEf TV
You will be able to view them in their full resolution, edits and all even with music tracts.
    Thanks,
    Marvelou

  • Opening an iMovie DVD in Windows XP

A friend sent me a DVD that he created in iMovie. He said that he captured the DV tape from the camcorder directly into iMovie and then burned a DVD-R of the clips. In Windows XP, the DVD-R disk just shows, Clip 01, Clip 02, ..., without any extensions. I have tried every extension I could think of and opening in Roxio Easy Media Creator 8. Nothing recognizes these files! How can I access this iMovie disk on a Windows machine?
I need to edit the data for a DVD project, so I can't have the friend export to a compressed format for transfer. I need the full quality clips for my editing. Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Steve

The suggestion to update my QuickTime for Windows and then try the *.dv extension on the video clips worked! Now I can see the clips on my Windows XP machine. (Now I only need to figure out how convert the format or to get my DVD authoring tools to recognize DV files.)

  • IMovie DVD audio stops in middle?

Imported a one hour video into iMovie 11 from our new JVC video camera then exported it to iDVD.
It made the chapters into menu scenes as expected.
However, in the last scene, the audio stops in the middle?
I don't think there is a secret make the audio stop in the middle of a clip setting I could have accidently clicked on?
I've used the advanced menu to delete and recreate the encoding with no luck.
I've exported an image file and used Disk Utility to burn it with no success.
I've gone back to iMovie and shared it to iDVD again with no luck.
The sound is there in iMovie and iDVD but not on the disc using DVD Player?
On top of my frustration, everything I try takes an hour or more of waiting...
Who removed export selected clip from iMovie?
Please don't make me have to go use a PC. I thought my new laptop was an upgrade?
I understand that DVDs are a thing of the past now--just fix the bugs, "one more build!"
iDVD used to be fun like HyperCard back in the day and now it is embarassing to see the apple logo on the menu screen as the audio stops and everyone grabs the remote to check the volume and blame the sound system. It has now become a disappointing waste of time--I should just go watch YouTube videos of laughing babies and cats...

    Hi Beverly
I have again created a disk image and the audio does not play half way through. I have since reloaded the audio on the corrupted half and am now creating another disk image and am burning at 4x as you suggested. If this does not work, do you think I should try reloading iMovie and iDVD again? I am using a Panasonic DVD player to play back the DVD, which I must admit does give me problems every now and then but I also have a cheapie Conia which believe me, plays everything and I have also tried play back on this, but still no go. Will keep you all posted, hopefully in a few hours. Thanks for your feedback.
