IMovie Export Sound Issue

Hi Guys
Really sorry if this has been posted before but I couldn't find anything similar.
I am running iMovie '09 (v.8.0.5[820]) on a 300GB iMac and have created an iMovie project of a snowboarding holiday we had with some friends.
The project runs really well in iMovie and I was really excited to export/share it so I could burn a DVD using iDVD.
Unfortunately 5 of the 20 chapters export with distorted sound. By this I mean that the resultant files seem to play ok until the 4th chapter which plays as per the project but with an EXTRA layer of audio from other scenes within the project. As I say all other audio plays fine but just with this extra audio in the background.
Which reminds me, in 'Share' I have tried sharing with iDVD, itunes and Media Browser as well as 'export movie' with the same end result (same places).
Thanks
InMyOwnPlace

Alright, I tried but it still doesn't work. Its still doing it in the same exact spot every time. If it helps, I'm not exporting using QuickTime, I'm exporting it using the Command E option and exporting it as a HD movie. Any more suggestions?
PLEASE HELP!

  • IMovie App Sound issue

Does anyone know if the iMovie app for iPhone 4 has a way to level out the sound like the real versions of iMovie do?
I recorded a video using the iPhone but there was a lot of background noise. You can see what I mean here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D26_4tGKTOM
On a sidenote, I noticed that on the iPhone 4 itself I was able to add 1901 by Phoenix to another video clip I filmed and edited on my iPhone. Wouldn't this by copyright issue?

  • IMovie Export - Sound out of synch

I have a 36 minute Project in High Definition that I'm exporting to Quick Time (which I plan to print on DVD). I use lots of titles and background music. The file is 3.59 GB. At about the 21st minute, the sound from a clip jumps forward about 3 sec. in advance. This happens at several intervals in the balance of the movie. I thought this may be a result of a corrupt file, so I split the DVD into two (by copying the Project, then deleting the first Part and doing again and deleting the second Part). Each Part plays perfectly. I then tried to copy and rename the new file, but the new exported file has the exact flaws as the original exported file. Can iMovie / Quick Time only handle files of limited size?
Any suggestions to resolve this problem are greatly appreciated.

in the right forum, you would soon stumble over a solution:
you're using an 'odd' ratio (ex.: 33,7%) of slow-mo in your project. reset any applied slow-mo effect in your Project to a 'given'/the slider fixes to ratio as 25%, 50%, ..

  • IMovie exports sound but no video to camera

iMovie 6.04 will and does export previous projects to my camera which I have already exported before but will not export my newer projects. I think it's because these newer projects were made with DV material that I extracted (converted) from a DVD in Toast and then brought into iMovie to edit and add music. They play fine on the computer although sometimes they stall and play with irregular movement. I have also exported them to DVD and Quicktime with no problem but the video will not export to my camera.
I deleted the preference file many times and tried every other thing else I could think of over the course of a couple of days. Very frustrating. If anybody can figure this out, I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks. Rich

    Hi 35Gb is OK
I have Mac OS and iMovie on one hard disk. My project on another.
The space for the project seems low though.
1 hour movie takes 13-14Gb (SD 4x4 TV-video) (HD about 5 times more)
To be able to edit it - calculate with about 4 times more.
I only use StreamingDV from miniDV tape Camera and .aiff 16-bit 48kHz audio.
From iTunes - Copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff and use this
    .mp3 - convert to .aiff
    External hard disks

  • IMovie 09 sound issue...

    Hey everyone,
I am writing an important paper right now, and the other day, I decided to record myself reading what I have written so far on iMovie. The only thing is, I had enabled access for assistive devices, so the sound did not record. Is there any way I can get the sound back? The biggest problem, is that Friday night, I tried saving the word document and there was an error so word did not save the last 400 or so words that I had written, so the best way for me to get it back would be to listen to the recording I made the other day...
    Hope you can help!!!
    Peace,
    Ian

I have the same problem with 09 when I am transfering video from my camea to the computer. No audio during the import. The audio is there after the import is complete so it is transfering but no audio during the import.

That sounds like a good thing, doesn't it?
It is almost never a good thing if a program "lies" to you. It says you are going to replace a file with a new one. You click "Replace". And silently the program "decides" it is not worth it, because it will be the same. At the very least, you should be warned that no export would take place.
And it is even worse if, say, you exported without audio, and suddenly realized it that was not what you wanted. You export again, making sure you selected Video and Audio. You confidently click "Replace", and copy the file you *thought* you had just created, and send it, or upload it somewhere. You won't have replaced anything, and will submit a video without audio, when you explicitly "exported" it with audio.

  • IMovie exports only sound to camera

    Good evening everybody!
In the past I successfully exported projects to my camera.
For the first time I got this problem: iMovie exports the sound, but freezes the first frame of the movie and leaves it at that.
I tried it in two ways: by "send to camera" and by "show video on camera monitor" and simply pushing the "record" button of the camera.
When I loaded a different movie and did exactly the same thing, all went well.
Back to my new film: the same again.
What's different with my new film?
Has anybody got an idea? I'd appreciate any help!

    Hello Sir Torsten,
Glad you got it to work. I really think that Apple never intended for us to make long complex movies...I think they though iMovie would be a fun app to make short little entertaining movies so they didn't carefully investigate all the nuances before releasing it.
For the most part, iMovie has worked great for most people. Just reading these discussions you can get some idea of the various projects that are being created and it is really remarkable from such a simple program. And, the other fantastic thing to remember is that so many of the problems we encounter DO have solutions or work-arounds!
BTW, it is now cooler and wetter here, too

  • Sound Issue when burning an imovie HD projet with iDVD

I've just finished a 45 minutes movie with a rich sound track, using the video recorded sound, mixed with music & garage band loops and effects.
In Imovie, I've used a variable sound level adjustment to have a good sound mix. When playing with iMovie, everything is fine.
When burning my DVD, the volume levels in the soundtrack are incorrect with big sound variations each time i've used a mix of 2 sound effect, one with a decreasing volume, the other one with increasing sound volume at the same time for example.
Is there any known bug issue regarding this ?
    Imac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)
    Imac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Problem found !
Karls answer's helped me to findout the issue.
    Nevertheless, this wasn't the bug.
When playing the movie in iMovie HD, sound rendering is not correct. When you burn your DVD, sound track is calculated to mix every sound tracks according to each sound volume curve defined in iMovie.
If you see a dot at the beginning of a sound track this mean that the DVD sound rendering will be incorrect.
Clean the and make sure that, when you select a sound object, you can change its volume by adjusting it, not manually, but using the general volume cursor. If not, you have a problem. Remake a perfect flat volume curve before adjusting it again.

  • IMovie: exporting to Google Video/mp3 issue

I would like to export an iMovie project to a format that Google Video accepts. Google Video prefers mpeg 4 video with mp3 audio. iMovie "expert settings" allows mpeg 4 export, but the only audio options for this are AAC or "none". Does anyone know how I can either:
    - Add some type of plugin or installable codec that enables mp3 audio with mpeg 4 video as an iMovie export option?
    - What software to use to convert from another iMovie export format to mpeg4/mp3?
I currently own Toast 6 and standard Quicktime.
    Any advice much appreciated!

"MPeg Streamclip" is a free download. Get it and install it in your applications folder. It is a totally great application for doing all kinds of conversions. Export your iMovie project to Quicktime format. Then fire up MPeg Streamclip and drag your quicktime movie to the pane and drop it. Go to 'File' drag to 'Export to MP4' and another screen will open up. Choose "iPod" this setting works great for the Google videos. Trust the settings chosen by Streamclip. It may take a while to convert, but when finished, you wil be able to upload to the Google video upload page. You may want to do this before going to bed. It wil be ready when you get up! I have 4 videos on the Google site. I did all four by using "MPeg Streamclip" My latest upload is "Feather Falls 2006" Check it out and good luck

  • Low quality in iMovie Export

iMovie is a great program. Unfortunately the export quality is not very good. I have tried several codecs (Apple Intermediate Codec, H.264, ++), but the result is drastic quality reduction. Very visible in dark areas and peoples faces were the no. of colors are too low. Filesize is reduced too.
The imported file (from Sony Handycam HD (CX550)) is an apple intermediate codec and the quality is great.
When exporting from iMovie useing Apple Intermediate Codec the quality setting is "medium" with no option to change this.
I also use Final Cut Express which gives much better export quality. But the program is not as intuitive and easy to use so I prefer iMovie.
The solution is to edit the movie in iMovie, export the project to Final Cut (by XML) and export QuickTime movie. With XML export all fancy transmissions are lost, but the picture quality is great. The final movie file is 3-4 times larger.
Anyone with similar experience or a solution?

I have exactly the same issues
'Very visible in dark areas and peoples faces where the no. of colors are too low. Filesize is reduced too.'
In light you won't notice but the dark is just terrible.
Important: It has not to do with interlace. Interlacing is not the problem. It's the dark areas en people faces!
I thought I found the solution.
    Wat I did was:
    - Export as Quictime Apple Intermediate Codec
    - > If I use the Dimensions 'HD 1920 x 1080 16:9" it was terrible
If I use the Dimension '1920 x 1080 HD' it was perfect.
(Also I set the compressor to 'other' and 'interlaced' and 'top field first')
But the strange thing is: When I do it on a small piece of footage. It works perfect. When I do it on a longer project: the footage is crappy again.
I worked a week on different home video stuff and it's not fun to see this decrease of quality.
I didn't missed a toppic where someone found the solution?
I will keep you informed about my investigations...

  • I created a video in Photo Booth and when I imported it to iMovie, the sound went away.

I have a Macbook pro and have the new OS X Mavericks installed. I have updated iMovie, but there doesn't appear to be a Photobooth update. I need to put 3 videos together in iMovie. Two movies were taken on my iphone and saved on my desktop, the other was created with Photobooth on the same computer. I imported the first 2 videos into iMovie and they work fine. When I tried to import the video created in Photobooth, it said it had to be converted. I converted the video through the computer's option and it played fine on the desktop. Upon importing the converted file into iMovie, the sound disappeared. What am I missing?

    The iMovie forum is here
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/imovie
That's where the knowledgeable ones on that issue hang out. Be sure to include the version of iMovie that you're using too.

  • IMovie Editing & Sound

    Hey
I have imported an Mpeg file into iMovie. I need to cut certain clips from the video to create a new video. e.g. I need to cut from 2 Min 0 Secs to 2 Min 19 Secs, then from 2 Min 47 to 3 Min 9 secs etc. How do I do this? Also I have lost the sound from the video. Can anyone help me please??
    Regards
    Marc

I imported the video from my Sony Digital camera that does videos. It has sound, and plays in Quicktime with audio, but imported into iMovie, no sound. What can I do to fix this?
Don't use QT application for conversion. You need an MPEG-based, third-party application here like MPEG Streamclip (free) or iSquint (free). Both will convert the Sony MPEG-1 and retain the audio. iSquint is easier to use but limits your output to MPEG-4 or H.264 for iMovie '08. MPEG Streamclip is a bit more complicated but allows many more output options and, in effect, is like QT Pro as far as conversions to QT structure and QT component supported outputs go.
Ok I have all the clips I wanted from my video, so now, how do I merge them into 1 video so I can export it and load it onto youtube?
That depends on the software you intend to use. If using iMovie '08, simply import the files to an "Event," move them from the Event window to the Project window in the order you want, edit, add titles, and/or transitions as desired, and then use the "Share" menu option to send them to your YouTube account from within iMovie '08. If you plan to upload them manually, use a "Share" or "Export" option to create the target compression format you want and follow the YouTube web site instructions.

  • HP Envy 4-1215dx Sound Issues

Hi, I own an HP Envy 4-1215dx. It's a great unit overall, but I am having problems with the audio on it. From the day I took it out of the box it will randomly spew out quick bursts of buzzing/crackling/digital noise whenever I try and play some sort of media, it will appear to have stopped for a while but then start doing it again, it is quite intermitten. It does it with sound from the internet such as youtube, playing MP3's, and even in Games. It is extremely irritating and I need to find a solution. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the audio drivers and have had no luck. Doing a quick google search, I found out that there are several other people with the same problem, yet the only answer they get back is to reinstall the drivers. I have done this already and it does not fix the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hello Livingedge,
I understand that the driver is an older version. This is the version that is available for your specific product on the HP Driver & Software page. I have been able to locate a driver that is also IDT, but the release date is 2013-09-30. I have included that driver here for you 'IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver'.
If this driver fails to resolve the sound issue, I would keep an eye on the 'HP Driver & Software' page. This is where if and any updates are available, will be provided here.
    Thank you.

  • Strange sound issue on iPad2

my mom is having odd sound issues on her iPad 2 that i was able to somewhat fix. and it goes from fixed back to broken o.O
i thought it was interesting and worth mentioning, in case this happens to anyone else.
her iPad 2 is up to date on the latest iOS (5.0.1) and the issue occured while she was watching a video in YouTube. sound is totally off in all apps. in Settings>General under 'use side switch to' it is set to 'mute'. when going to Settings>General>Sounds the volume control for ringers will work and cause the ringtone to play, so it seems the speaker itself is fine. however it will only work there and for that short time. afterward sound will continue to remain off. the volume control on the side of the unit will bring up the on screen speaker icon, except it doesnt show the bar that usually goes up and down with the volume. and sometimes at the top of the grey box it will say 'sound effects'. ive also tried switching the mute on and off which changes nothing.
the one thing ive found that changes anything is the multi tasking bar volume control (double clicking the home button and then sliding all the way to the left, where it shows a screen orientation lock, brightness slider and a volume control bar). now the volume control bar is unfilled and doesnt show the dot that you can slide up and down to change the volume. however when i plug the iPad 2 into a computer (any computer seems to cause this) the volume control bar will suddenly fill and the dot will appear. now suddenly sound works in all apps and will change with the side control again as normal.
now heres where it gets even weirder!!!
sometimes when unplugging the iPad 2, after a short while volume will slowly fade out and be unresponsive again. the side buttons stop working and the volume control in the multi tasking bar will be unfilled and unresponsive. repeatedly plugging it in, going back to the multi tasking bar volume control and unplugging will eventually bring volume back. a couple times ive gotten volume to stay on and the volume bar to stay responsive by unplugging it while im in the multi tasking bar. but sometimes this is not the case.
for the record, ive tried 'turning it off and on again' and resetting all settings and erasing all content and settings (both with starting up from a back up on iCloud and PC, and starting up as a new iPad). ive used two different laptops, one with Windows Vista and one with Windows 7. the iPad is synced with one laptop but aside from using iTunes to back it up and for charging, ive not made any changes to the iPad using these devices. during the entire duration of my attempts to fix it, the iPad has been on no lower than 80% power. ive also called Apple and discussed this with an Apple Care representative. who suggested all the same things id already done, and walked me through all the fixes to make sure i didnt skip anything.
hopefully and most probable is that its just an issue with iOS 5.0.1. i also have an iPad 2 thats up to date with 5.0.1 and ive not had this issue, YET.
i just thought it would be beneficial to the community to share this issue and get word out that this is happening. i would like to hear everyones thoughts on this issue and if this has happened to anyone else. the Apple Representative that i spoke to had not heard of or had to deal with this issue so it sounds like its rather new or rare. though she did mention that this is not normal behavior for the device and might be a software issue.
id like to conclude with my love for Apple, and how user friendly iDevices are in general. ive had iPods from the very first generation and all of them still work (though the older ones cant be updated past a certain iOS). the few issues ive ever had were easily fixed with a visit to the Apple Store or searching on the Apple Support Communities. so as with before, i will remain positive and look forward to a bug fix in the next update.
-thanks in advanced for reading, and any comments

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
