IMovie files for import.

I have previous iMovies burned onto DVDs.  I want to re-do them with the new iMovie and only have the DVDs to load from.  However iMovie does not recognize the .VOB files for me to import to create a project.  What can I do?

Hi
Isn't it so that You need the .mpeg2 component from Apple $30 to do this ?

no you should transcode those files into an format that os suitable for editing. Like proRez. Although you might need some Flip4Mac or perian or something to do the conversion.

  • Program file for importer

hi, can anyone tell me how i can access the program file for importer ti add dvr-ms files. i'm running on a windows vista

    Hi,
If you have already selected "Videos" under "Manage Media Importer" and you still can't import the DVR MS files, then that might be a limitation of the import utility. As a work around, you may use the NTI Shadow Utility to do total backup on all your files.
    Cheers!

  • Best file for importing images from Illustrator and Photoshop for small file sizes

    Hello Adode consults!
I'm in the process of preparing an inDesign file for a school project -- I've already had a few harrowing experiences sending large files to the printer that are too large to process (and a very grumpy computer, etc). The end result will be a poster around 36 inches by 4 or 5 feet.
I'm wondering if there are any best practices for making sure that the files imported into InDesign are a manageable size to begin with. Should I, for instance, be saving each file as a jpeg before placing in Indesign?
    Thanks!
    -Katherine

No, you should not save every file as JPG before placing it in INDesign. JPG is only usefull for raster images (like photos) without any transparency in high quality.
    When you place images use:
For raster images from Photoshop psd (rgb with color profile)
For raster images from Photoshop with form layers, texts or any vector element use PDF (or PDP) with layers.
For vector graphics from Illustrator use AI files or PDF.
For layouts from other InDesign projects use either the INDD itsself or export a PDF/X4.
But to the printer deliver a PDF according to their standards. E.g. when they need CMYK files export as PDF/X1a with the required output color space and the resolution they want. Produce the pdf via Export (Print).
Don't deliver open INDD. File size should for printing projects not be an issue.

  • Acceptable Video Files for Importing

what type of video files are acceptable to FCX? it won't read my AVIs or MPEG4s

MPEG Streamclip is especially useful for this sort of thing. I just recently converted a bunch of AVI files to DV, for import into FCP. If you want to convert VOB (DVD) files, however, you'll have to pony up the $20 to get Apple's Quicktime MPEG-2 Component. I've also been able to successfully open WMV files in MPEG Streamclip, as well as DivX/XviD files. It's very versatile. One format that I wish it would convert is RealVideo.

  • Converting powerpoint / wmv files for import into iMovie

I have some students [on PC] who have created some slideshows in powerpoint. I am working on a G4 PowerBook, and use iMovie HD, but am having problems converting wmv and quicktimes [using flip4mac] and then importing them into FCP or iMovie.
Can anyone tell me the best settings to use to effect this process - I have tried mpeg4 basic and advanced as well as H264 but the end result is either really pixellated or won't import at all.
    Many thanks

  • Converting MOV Files for import results in loss of sound

I have some .mov files which will not directly import into iMovie 08. I believe this is because they were created using "save as..." from QT Pro, with an original file format of .mpg w/muxed audio.
I am now converting the .mov files using the "export..."comand from QT Pro. iMovie is recognising the results, weather it is .DV Stream, .Mp4, or even a true .mov file. The problem, every time I convert from the original .mov I loose the clips audio. Is this a side effect of converting a vid clip with muxed audio or am I doing something wrong?
Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.

QuickTime can't extract audio from muxed file formats. Don't use it.
MPEG Streamclip (free) can export to QuickTime formats with the audio. Use it.

  • How to export iMovie clips for import to Windows video editing programs?

What export format creates an exact digital copy of mini-dv video which can be recognised and imported by Windows video editors?
I need to give editable copies of DV to Windows users, The lowest common denominator is Windows Movie Maker, which does not recognise .dv files created by copying from the project's Media folder, or Sharing a Movie to DV stream.
I want to burn data DVDs with clips or complete projects from iMovie which are equivalent to copying back to mini-DV tapes.
Is Share to AVI my only option?
If so, is there any loss in quality?
    iMac G5, MacBook, iMac 233 (R.I.P.)   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

after spending a few minutes on the net concerning that WindowMovieMaker, my guess is:
    WMM does NOT accept a "file.dv" ...
but is does accept that same dv within an avi container... "file.avi"
avi and mov are just containers, not formats, as a box of chocolate, "wrappers" for many codecs...
try to export your clips as avi, and choose under compressor "DV"...- give that a try...
DV is the same codec which is in use on miniDV tapes, and the same, iM uses internally... so, it should be no quality loss.. just a "wrapping"...
(me no PCuser, just read that...)

  • Encoding iMovie files for Windows Media Player

    iMovie 11 / 9.0
    Mac OS 10.6.8
I edit audio/video in iMovie (currently the only program I have) and need to output for streaming on the internet. Most of our subscribers are using older versions of Windows Media Player and as I understand won't be able to play MP4. I couldn't play the MP4 using Windows Media Player 9.0, "invalid format" error.
What software could I use to convert MP4 to a format for streaming on the internet that our subscribers play using WMP? Should I save the file out of iMovie in a different format to convert?
I have Adobe Media Encoder 4.2.0.006 but my options are h.264 or flash, got error messages when I tried to "Edit Export Settings".
    Thanks

The easiest way is to upload video to YouTube and embed videos on your site from there. This way you don't have to worry about which version of Windows, which version of Internet Exlorere, etc.
Another way, ask your users to install QuickTime For Windows. Then export normally,
Another way, get one of the paid versions of Flip4Mac, and you can convert files to wmv using QuickTime Pro or MPEG Streamclip or Compressor.

  • How to combine XDCAM clips into one big file for import?

Hi, I'm not sure if this is a basic question or just not possible... I'm on location and have to rush edit. I've not worked with xdcam before. Usually I would import all of the media in low-res (one tape at a time), see what I want, then re-import that in high-res.
In xdcam, when I import, I import EVERY single shot as a separate file. I can set ins and outs and just import what I want, but this is laborious to open and close every shot to see if I want it, then mark ins and outs.
Isn't it somehow possible to import everything on the xcdcam disk as ONE single file as you would a "tape" so you can quickly screen it, see what you want, then go back to the individual clips on your xdcam disk and import those in high-res? This would be so much faster!
Many thanks for your help... am in a bind and in a rush!

Ok thanks... that seems to work. It won't actually work for the way we're editing, but in theory had we synced up our workflow from the start...
Re. something new... well I hear what you're saying but I have changed formats several times, used 4 different nlediting platforms so far and not complained. This is the only one that seems much harder especially when you're working with different editors in different countries under tight time pressure.
The brief user guide that I read (and our tutorial instructor at work) told us to import all the little clips and said nothing of combining them... I'm not sure how people could actually work that way and manage dozens of disks' worth of individual shots as files. It would take years to cut an item... and usually we have about 45 minutes to an hour.
    Cheers,

  • How to format .m3u files for import? Or is there a spec. for .zpl playlis

I currently create all my playlists through SlimServer (www.slimdevices.com). The result is .m3u playlists. I'd like to use these same playlists on my Vision M without having to recreate all of them. Writing a script to tweak what the structure of the .m3u is no problem. I've tried the method described here: http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=0837
with no luck. Within MediaSource Organizer, I drag my imported playlist into an existing playlist on my Zen, but I always get "Error" or "Rejected" for each entry in the playlist. I think I may not be formatting the paths correctly in the .m3u. The styles of entries I've used include (folder structure below matches what is on the player):
    /Ben Allison/2006 Cowboy Justice/07 Weazy.mp3
    Ben Allison/2006 Cowboy Justice/07 Weazy.mp3
    /Music/Ben Allison/2006 Cowboy Justice/07 Weazy.mp3
    Music/Ben Allison/2006 Cowboy Justice/07 Weazy.mp3
No luck with any of them. Am I missing something?
Also, I was wondering if I could just write a script to create a .zpl (apparently creative's own style of playlist file?) file from an .m3u file. But I'd have to know the format of the .zpl file, and if I was able to create one, would I be able to drag-and-drop it into my playlists in Creative Media Explorer? Any ideas here?
    Thanks!

Just tested an .m3u playlist that looks exactly like this:
    (start file)
    C:\Ben Allison\2006 Cowboy Justice\0 Tricky **bleep**.mp3
    (end file)
That mp3 exists on C. The same file exists on my ZVM with the same directory structure underneath "Music." I copy the m3u playlist to my device using MediaSource Organizer--the playlist is transferred, but the file is copied to my player again! So now I have two copies of "Tricky **bleep**.mp3" on my player. The new one is copied to the ZVM in a different directory based on its tags (artist\album\track). This is definitely not what I want.
All I want is to copy over the miniscule playlist files, nothing else. Is this at all possible? And if so, what should the playlist files look like? I was hoping that I'd be able to easily synchronize my home player's playlists (Squeezebox) with the playlists on my ZVM, but this is not looking promising...

  • Creating multiple records from 1 record in the source file for Import DM

    Hi Experts,
Today I am working on an interface/import where I want to get the following result:
Source file contains a records like:
    Account, Entity, DriverX
    Sales,EntityA,ZZ
The BPC appset contains the 2 dimensions Account and Entity next to CostCenter dimension. The DriverX field in the source file is just additional information in the source file. However based on this DriverX we need to determine what CostCenter to choose but we also need to have the same record assigned to a second record in BPC.
Following my example, based on DriverX value I need to create 2 records:
    Account, Entity, CostCenter,
    Sales,EntityA,CC1
    Sales,EntityA,CC2
I don't have a problem assigning the record to 1 CostCenter based on DriverX value but I have a problem creating my second record. Does any of you have had the same "challenge" and if so would you like to share the solution for this?
    Best regards,
    Johan
PS: I am working on SAP BPC, version 7.0 Microsoft version.

    Hi Greg,
Many thanks for your answer. And yes this would be a solution. However I just simplified my case as the decision to create an second record and where to post is depending on more than 1 field in the source.
But I will keep it in mind, because I also can opt for a solution to store data differently in BPC fac-tabels which will help me to use script logic.
If it is not possible to create multiple records from a single records in the standard functionality in the Transformation and/or Conversion file, I have to create a custom DTSX or change my way of storing data.
Anyone else who is having an alternative idea like Greg came up with?
    Please let it know!
    Best regards,
    Johan

  • Export Oracle tables and metadata to file for importation into another Db

    Hi all,
In relation to past posts I'm wondering if a tool exists that allows one to export chosen table(s), along with associated metadata (hopefully automatic incorporation of associated triggers etc) to an export file and then add (import) this data to another Oracle Database?
Looking at remote application development on specific data on a 'standalone' PC running Oracle XE at home.

    Hi,
well there is only a version of datapump.
You can set a 'VERSION' parameter for compatibility..
