  • I have some unfinished projects in an old iMovie format. How can I finish them using the new iMovie? When I open them it says it doesn't support powerPC format

I have some unfinished project in an old iMovie format. If I try to import them to the new iMovie to finish them it says I can't because it does not support powerPC formats. How can I save them???

Right click on the icon and choose "Show Package Contents".
Drill down through the folders to find your original source clips (probably .dv files). Drag them to a new Desktop folder to import them into iMovie.

  • Large iDVD Project (help with iMovie formats, time totals, quality)

    Hi,
I am in the process of finishing up a large DVD project. I went on a six month backpacking trip, and have lots of photos/small clips to make a DVD from. I will have a main menu in iDVD with submenus for each country (Mexico, Cook Islands, NZ, Australia, Vietnam, Thailand, India)
On each submenu will be around 4-5 movies of around 2-5 minutes each.
I created movies using iMovie (imported sound-less iPhoto slideshows 640x480 expored as MOV file) and added captions, music etc in iMovie. Each 'movie' is about 1-5 minutes long.
    First question:
What is the best format to export these movies in? I will be adding them to iDVD. But when I export them, they are around 100-700Mb each depending on time of the movie. I used the expert settings (to Quicktime Mov) using the following settings:
    Video:
    Compression: Mpeg-4 Video
    Quality: Best
    Frame Rate: 60
    key frame rate: 24
    Dimensions: 720x526 4:3
    audio:
    format: AAC
    Sample rate: 48.000Khz
    Bit Rate 128
    Stereo
In my iDVD project - the menu loops are maximum 30 seconds each, with the audio cut to the same length (ie. not trimmed in the menu - the actual mp3 added is 30seconds etc)
    Now, big question is:
Do I have a total of 2 hours for everything? All menus, and all movies ? Is there ANY way of calculating this in iDVD or do I have to do it manually (estimate) ???
I notice with iDVD 8.0 it has a indicator of the space available etc. I have iDVD 6.0 so that doesn't help me now I guess?
What I need to ask is that - maybe using expert settings to mov files is unnecessary? What would you recommend as the export settings?
I have been working on the iMovie projects for months and can re-export them all in different format if need be, and can simply re-add the movies to iDVD. I have set up the shell of the DVD in iDVD but not added the movies yet (I have the placeholders there for them).
Anyway - hopefully I haven't blabbed on too much that someone out there can offer some advice?
    Cheers and THANK YOU!
    Alessandro

Best Performance: For projects up to one hour
Best Quality: For projects up to two hours
If your project is longer than one hour, you have to use Best Quality. Generally, the quality will be fine but the closer your get to that two hour limit, the more possibility you have of seeing some quality hits.
I deal with lots of long projects and generally if a project is longer than 90 minutes (specially since my projects have lots of fast motion, low light, etc) I split them up over two DVDs, keeping each under the one hour limit. That does give you your best quality option

  • What does it mean when your imovie formatting process stops due to "not enough room in heap zone /"? Thanks.

I am trying to make an imovie from 369 slides I scanned to my computer.  I have the slides in order with titles and music attached.  The next step was formatting it before burning to the DVD.  About 2 hours into the formatting process, it stopped with a message that said "error" and "not enough room in heap zone /"  I don't know what the heap zone is and what to do next.  Thanks for any help.

I am asking the moderators of the forum to move this discussion to the iMovie forum for fastest assistance with this question.  Good luck

  • How to burn a DVD or CD from iMovie format to play in Windows format

I have made three videos of OLD family films and need to be able to burn copies to give as Christmas gifts that will play on standard DVD players and I do not know how to save as a format other than one that only plays in iTunes, etc.
Please let me know if you can help me as I need to produce these discs before next weekend as my family will meet for Thanksgiving to do their Christmas!

Going direct to iDVD works if your source event is DV or AIC. If you start with something else you need to use the Media Browser. Many people feel that the Media Browser h.264 copies give better results than DV directly, but you should test this for yourself and see what works for you.
For example, if you are doing a slide show from iPhoto jpegs, you will not have the option of going directly to iDVD.
There is no particular advantage in sending DV or AIC directly to iDVD, because iMovie must render the movie anyway. There is no such thing in iMovie as "passing through" DV without rendering it.

  • IMovie Format in MV4 or OGG

    Hi Guy's,
I purchased a website from seriftemplates.com (urban light) and they said I need to convert my video format to MV4 or OGG. Does iMovie come in any of these formats?
I downloaded iMovie to my iPhone as my Mac Book is not working at the moment so I can' t convert or export it there. Im using a Windows based machine at the mo.
Can anyone give me any tips on how to go about this please?
    Regards,
    Jon

    Hi Guy's,
Thanks for those last 2 comments.
Please see below what is in the manual for what the the website requires:
You can host your own videos with the Urban template! Upload videos to your server and display them through the custom video player.
    Thanks,
    Jon
We’ve used jPlayer an HTML5 and jQuery player, this means your videos will be accessible on virtually all devices.
    Adding your Video
To allow for compatibility across all platforms you will need to provide your video in 2 formats M4V and OGV there are many free converters available online.
Go to the Video page and double click the HTML Code Fragment on the page, this will bring up a pop-out window with the code that manages the video file locations.
An example of the video code looks like this:
    m4v: "http://www.jplayer.org/video/m4v/Big_Buck_Bunny_Trailer.m4v",
    ogv: "http://www.jplayer.org/video/ogv/Big_Buck_Bunny_Trailer.ogv",
Edit the file location of your M4V and OGV video files. We’ve set up some folders in the WebPlus File Manager to house you files. Tools > Site Manager > File Manager > Audio > MP3 or OGG. If you use these file locations update the file path in the code:
    Example
    mp3:"video/m4v/video-name.m4v",
If you’re planning on adding extra videos or have a large video, it may be better to add them directly to the server and link to them in the code to prevent your WebPlus file getting too large.

  • IMovie Format Change

  • IMovie format

Another dumb question!  When I export the imovie via email, it won't open on a PC. The PC says it
reads .mov files - but won't read my output. Can anybody help me figure how to make iMovie play
on a PC without requiring a special download on the PC ? Thanks.
    Jim

Choose in iM 'Export using with Quicktime'
in the following dialog choose  'Movie to Mpeg4'
in the Options dialog choose 'h.264'
for emailing, choose a (much) smaller resolution to reduce file-size
should work on most actual Windows machines. If not, choose 'mpeg4' as codec - files bigger, quality drops, but 100% compatible even on 10y devices ...
    best practice:
upload to Youtube (set video to 'private' if wanted/needed)
    mail the provided URL ...-

  • Setup for iPad iMovie format

How do I setup FCP for movie from iPad 720p? I guess. I can get it to show if I elgato it to 720P but the audio does not play. It is at 44 not 48.

You need to run it thru Mpegstreamclip or Compressor... change it to AppleProRes LT.  It will keep audio and frame size.
    Good luck,

  • IMovie update-when will it open all video formats

Its time iMovie was able to open various video formats (a lot of formats are inaccessible such as .dat, .mkv etc). Now, as a user, it doesn't matter whether the software is hi-fi, all that matters is readability, something that Apple must consider in their iMovie update. A lot of old timers used to have video CDs, now the user is busy using another cheap 3rd party software to convert .dat/.mkv into iMovie formats, the whole concept of video quality is lost there itself.

if u get any solution to this problem pls tell me also i am facing same problem.......no updates available

  • IMovie not picking up camera

Hello everyone. I have seen a couple people with a similar issue to mine, but no solutions yet, so I will try to provide a little more info. I am using a MacBook Pro, and am trying to import video into iMovie from my Canon ZR80 via Firewire. Plug into the camera and Mac. Camera says "DV IN", Mac does nothing. I have tried any and all fixes mentioned here in the past few days. I went into Console and in the logs there is this message repeating over and over while the camera is plugged in.
"Mar 31 23:23:53 justin-unsers-computer kernel[0]: FireWire (OHCI) Lucent ID 5811 PCI: Bad selfIDs, issuing bus reset (retry 2)
Mar 31 23:23:53 justin-unsers-computer kernel[0]: FireWire (OHCI) Lucent ID 5811 PCI: Bad selfIDs, issuing bus reset (retry 3)"
Of course it will go to retry 4 and so on up to 14 before starting over on 2 again. I have another MBP, and have the same exact results. One MBP is a 1.8, the other a 2.0.
I know the camera is compatible, and the wire is good because when I plug everything in the camera reads "DV IN".
The other MBP does not have this error message, but also will not work with the camera. Any thoughts before I go to the Genius Bar?

  • Problems with iMovie 6.0.3 corrupting old projects?

    Hi everyone
This is my first post, and I have a very big problem which I hope you can help me with.
In a nutshell, ever since installing iMovie 6.0.3 I have had some very strange problems with opening certain old projects. On opening a project I get the standard "this is an old project, do you want to convert" message, and then a number of things happen. Either iMovie opens with absolutely nothing in the Clips pane or the timeline (and this is in a project with several gigabytes of clips); or, a couple of random clips appear in the trash, but nothing else; and/or, I get a blank project which seems to be in NTSC format, whereas all my projects are in PAL.
All the original clips are there in the Media folder, but are not recognised if I try to import them (Error during import; Quicktime couldn't parse it: -199).
I have tried re-installing both iMovie 4 and 5, but no joy. So, I can't open the 'bad' projects in either the old iMovie formats or the new one. The wierd thing is that some (newer) projects do work.
Following some old threads here I have tried using Lennart's File Fixer - didn't help. Also tried moving the .mov file and opening project. Again, didn't help.
Sooo...any ideas? I am really desperate! The old files are there, it's just that nothing seems to be able to read them.
    Thanks for your help.
