IMovie freezes during export

I am trying to export a movie that I made and IMovie just freezes during the export. I have tried to export it in different ways. I am new to Macs and Imovie in general so any help would be appreciated.

I have 486 Gigs of free space. THe movie clips are only about 4-5 minutes a piece. They have audio, video, and pictures in the movie. They play fine on my computer, but I would like to export them to email to people.

    Chris,
I found a solution to the freezing problem in one of the answers to another problem here on the discussion forum.
It solved my problem and it might be helpful to you.
Convert your iMovie video into a QT film with the same quality (I have a dutch version of iMovie HD, so I don't know the exact menu-wording. Something like >Slect>share).
Import this QT film into a NEW iMovie project.
    Then export to your camcorder.
It took my Mac almost 11/2 hour to convert the video to QT (55minutes movie).
But in the end, it worked.
I'm no expert, but I think it has to do with the mutilations caused by adding titles, cutting, audio additions etc. which are imparted on the document.
The original video that frooze was 17.1 GB. The successful copy only 13.6GB.
    Good luck

  • Movie freezes during export to Camera

I am trying to export my imovie to a sony video camera. I have done this before with my boyfriends mac and imovie, and that worked - I know that the camera and firewire work. I have the newer version of imovie, does that make a difference? Imovie begins to play my movie and the camera records. About 5 minutes into it the movie freezes and the camera keeps recording that image until I stop it. It freezes at different times each try, but all toward the beginning.
    Help!!

hi rtrusty - welcome to the forum!
Maybe you are running really low on storage space, or maybe you have several other programmes open while you are sharing to camera? Or is the project stored on an external hard drive - if so, is it correctly formatted for Macs - Mac OS Extended?

  • IMovie crashing during export. Only works with ultra low quality exports.

I'm using the most recent version of iMovie with the mid-2011 MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM and a 500GB Hybrid HDD with over 200GB free. I have a project and everytime I go to export it beyond the "Mobile" version I get several different errors. If I try a "Large" or "720p" export, the software crashes and I get this error:
    "Process:         iMovie [908]
    Path:            /Applications/iMovie.app/Contents/MacOS/iMovie
    Identifier:      com.apple.iMovieApp
    Version:         9.0.7 (1768)
    Build Info:      iMovieApp-1768000000000000~2
    App Item ID:     408981434
    App External ID: 9556074
    Code Type:       X86 (Native)
    Parent Process:  launchd [202]
    User ID:         501"
If I try exporting with 1080p, I get a message saying "unable to prepare project for publishing."
This just about stays consistant no matter what medium I use to export the project, I've tried exporting to different sources and it doesn't work, I've tried exporting directly to YouTube, I've tried exporting to a various different types of Quick Time format. Nothing works.
I've restarted the project and built from scratch with several different files used, nothing works. It is seeming consistat with the different projects I have and hasn't worked for months now. I need a solution asap.
    Any reccomendations?
    Thanks

    Thanks guys!
I will try your suggestions right now, so, In order to be sure that I will not f**** up my project during the process:
    1)   Do a backup of my whole project, which only (?) consists in dragging/copying my "Event file" (Library) to the USB3 External Drive.
    2) Delete Pref's with "Pref Manager"
2**) If the problem continues, delete FCPX / Fresh re-install it, using http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/
    3) Just drag & drop the "Event Folder" (37,59GB) from my External Hard Drive, to a new Libary.
    Is this it?
I would also like to know:
All my purschased Effects/LUT's/Plugins, if I must Delete & Fresh install, will I have to install them all again one by one?
Would it be useful to ask for a Genius Bar appointment, before trying all this, or not worth it?
    THANKS!

  • IMovie freezes during playback

I have built a 9 minute IMovie, and it hangs up whenever it gets to the short videos that are included with the photos - just freezes up. I have reloaded it, but no change. Any help appreciated....

You might be able to narrow down which item is causing the problem and deleting it. First create a duplicate project:
Click the Project Library button and highlight the name of your project by click on it just once so that it will be colored in blue.
Go to File Menu > Duplicate Project, iMovie will create a duplicate with a number added to the end of the name
Open the Duplicate project and try deleting a picture, or transition or video clip where the video freezes or even just before the point where it freezes.
Playback the movie and see if it reacts differently.
Just try one thing at time and you might discover it's one item in the Project timeline that's causing the problem. Once you find the source of the problem, you can try replacing it or just leave it out until you finish the project and export it. Sometimes it's difficult to figure out how something got corrupted and subsequently how to ressurect it.

  • Media Encoder cc (2014) freezes during export

I have re-installed AME with no luck.  I'm using AME as a direct export from Premier CC.  I'm getting the same results from 2 PC's.  Sometimes if freezes at 20%, sometimes at 50%....Using AMD r9 290x video cards.

  • AME freeze during export from premiere

Hi, I have the same problems by using AME since CS 5.5... now I have AME CC 2014 but the problem is the same.MAC OSX
    I'm on MAC PRO OSX 64GB Ram, 2CPU XEON, 2 Graphic card AMD Fire Pro 700 2 x 6GB.
When I export from premiere using adobe media encoder, and setting OPEN CL HW acceleration, some times it freeze and i have to restart the mac pro forcing it.
The only way to export is disable GPU but it needs longer time to do the compression.
I want to use GPU OPENCL, i bought this macpro with 2 graphic card so I want the faster way to compress... how to do?
I noted that the problems happen when the project has big images inside such as more then 3000px width.
The strange thing is that if i compress the same project on a windows OS, with CUDA NVIDIA card (2GB) it works...
I understood that with the new AME release (CC 2014) this problem was solved but i see not.
    Pls let me know
    Thanks

  • Premiere CC 2014 Freezing during Export

Hey everyone, I tried to look for a post of this issue, but none seem to be quite the same as this. Whenever I go to export my file, my entire system locks up. I've tried leaving it for upwards of 40 minutes and it does not come back. The very few times I have gotten it to export, it goes smoothly, within 5 minutes or so.
I have just last week updated my Premiere CC to the most current update (8.0.0 (169) build).
I am running Windows 7 Professional
the source files are .MOV, but I apologize that's about as much info as I know how to give on that right now.
I am not getting any error message, the system is simply locking up. When I reenter the program after rebooting my system, I do get a failure to launch the program. After that I am able to get back in.
I have tried multiple types of files to export to, and switched up settings as well.
This has worked only twice. 98% failure rate, I'd say at this point.
I have tried while running only Premiere, and I have tried with Chrome open, as well as some other software.
I am using an AMD Radeon R7 200 series graphics card
i have a dedicated 5.9 GB of RAM for Premiere to use
I have an AMD FX-8350 Processor
if anyone can shed some light on this situation it would be fantastic. My free trial is almost up, and if I can't get this to work, I obviously will not be subscribing to the CC services.
    Thanks.
and please let me know if there is anymore information I should provide!

  • Keynote freezes during export of slideshow to iDVD

Upon sending a Keynote presentation to iDVD, the processing of the Quicktime Movie freezes up about 2/3 thru the show.  Have not run into this before and I've made many slideshows and videos using Keynote and have sent them to iDVD.  Have tried pulling the slide that the file freezes at but then it locks up at the next slide.  Don't want to start over as I'm pressed for time.  Also, not sure that it won't occur again.

    Hi Louis,
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
    Or...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • IMovie freezing on iPhone when exporting

Hi! I can see many people have had trouble with iMovie freezing when exporting. However, any responses I've seen all discuss iPad's and things I can't do or see as I am simply doing mine on my iPhone and don't have an iPad or Mac etc....It only happened once I added a 4th song's worth of pics/vids to 3 songs' worth to my baby boy's first year. Help! I don't have a way of copying and playing about with mine and it's taken ages and I so want to finish it!!

I have been having the exact same problem ever since I upgraded to iMovie '11. Please help!!!

  • Parts of my iMovie freeze (but the sound continues) once exported to iDVD

After completing a movie on iMovie, I have exported it to iDVD and 'Movie' formats then burned them to disk, but both movies freeze in exactly the same place whilst the audio runs through as normal.
When I play them in imovie they run as normal.
    Why is this?

    Some possibilities:
Check out this thread for a possible solution: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7305234&#7305234 Perhaps renaming the file would help.
I don't know if ithis has an effect on the file, but why is it saved in documents rather than music or movies?
Also, are you using iTunes to convert the file to .aiff? Here is the procedure from iTunes help:
*Choosing AIFF and WAV custom import settings*
If you use AIFF or WAV encoding, you can use custom settings for greater control over the quality and size of imported files.
To choose AIFF and WAV import settings:
    1. Choose iTunes > Preferences, click Advanced, and then click Importing.
    2. Choose AIFF Encoder or WAV Encoder from the Import Using pop-up menu.
    3. Choose Custom from the Setting pop-up menu.
    4. In the dialog that appears, choose settings:
Sample Rate: The number of times per second the music waveforms are captured digitally. The higher the sample rate, the higher the quality and the larger the file size. Don't choose a sample rate higher than the rate used to store the music originally or you'll waste space. CD quality, for example, is 44.100 kHz, so choosing a higher rate when you're encoding from a CD is unnecessary. In general, the best choice is Auto, which uses the same rate as the original music.
Sample Size: The number of bits used to store each sample taken as the music is encoded. The higher the sample size, the better the quality and the larger the file size.
Channels: If you don't have stereo speakers or if your audio files are monaural (mono files are about half the size of stereo files), choose Mono. If you'll be listening through headphones or a stereo system, choose Stereo or Auto. Auto converts monaural tracks into mono files and stereo tracks into stereo files.

  • Freezes when exporting .mov files in CS4 / Adobe Media Encoder

For the past 7 hours now I have been trying every internet remedy for the following problem, and was wondering if any of you nice people could help:
I just came back from a ski trip, and wanted to make an edit featuring my fiends. I recorded large parts of the trip on my new iPhone, both in 720p 120fps (120.15fps, h.264 1280*720) and the normal 1080p 30fps. iPhone files are in the .mov format. I also recorded some parts on a GoPro hero hd2 camera at both 720p 60fps and 1080p 30fps. GoPro files are in the MP4 format, and i've never had a probvlem with them.
Now all imports fine into premiere pro, and although I had a few problems with freezing while editing initially, this was quickly solved by terminating all unused (non-adobe) processes in task manager.
So I spent a good 4 hours making a 2.5 minute edit of our day, and wanted to export it.
So I selected the sequence, and went file>export>media, selected all of the preferences i wanted for exporting, and sent it to the Adobe media encoder.
The media encoder loads the files for a few seconds, and then starts the encoding process. And promptly freezes. It freezes at around 10-20 seconds (depending on export preferences) after starting to encode, and never restarts. i can then pause the encode, but cancelling it crashes adobe media encoder and subsequently also crashes Premiere Pro.
I may be mistaken here, but I have a strong suspicion that It is quicktime that is causing all this.
    So I tried the following:
    - reinstalling, downgrading, updating, etc. Quicktime
    - renaming file extensions from .mov to .mp4
    - all sorts of export preferences, from image sequences to dvd to blueray and dv. (Image sequences, interestingly, occasionally export to about half a minute into the video(also depending on preferences), then freeze)
    - crossing my fingers
    - checking for gaps in video, found none
    - updating premiere pro and media encoder
    - throwing my mouse at the wall in frustration
    - making a new project with different settings and copying in the sequence
    - disabling "Include source xmp metadata"
    - making a new user account and trying it there
Is there anything else I can try?
Could I copy the project itself into a different program (e.g. iMovie or Windows Movie Maker) and export from there?
Is there an alternative to Adobe media encoder?
    Need more information?
    Thanks for the help!
    Specs:
    Premiere version: 4.2.1
    Encoder version: 4.2.0.006
    Comp specs:
    16Gb ram
    quad core i5
256 Gb solid state (system, program files are here)
2TB HDD (video files, scratch disk are here)
    Nvidia gtx 660 graphics
    Windows 64 bit
    1 monitor

I bought quicktime pro today to try this, but to no avail. it just freezes up again during export.
I tried some other fixes on that page, like renaming files to .mpg extension, which worked once during an export of a test sequence (although everything was shifted and it cut off the export at the gopro footage).
Is there any way I can export this project to another program to export it from there perhaps?
    Thanks for the help!

  • Work-around for flash player hangs/freezes during initialisation...

    Hello all,
Are you also facing the problem that the flash player hangs/freezes during execution of an xcelsius file? Try if the following work-around works also for you.
I am (was) facing the same problem: a swf file about 1474 kb with many components, generated with Xcelsius 5.3.2.0., trying to view with flash player 10.1.82.76. Did also hang/freezed! The file was originally build with version 5.3.0 and worked o.k. then...
The work-around which works for me is the following: I had all my components organized in groups. After ungrouping them all (which I think is a major drawback) and exporting it to swf, the report works! File size is more or less the same...
Maybe you can give this work-around a try for your own work....
So I think the SAP/Adobe bug has something to do with grouping of components or grouped components build in an earlier version of Xcelsius 2008... The following test that I will perform is ungrouping the components and then re-grouping them again in version 5.3.2.0....
    Greetings
    Erik-Jan Vriens

Thank you for sharing this. Had a similar problem before and did some tinkering around with the file and all of a sudden it worked again. Fair bet it was exactly that as well.
In general Xcelsius performance goes down the drain if you start using many components. It is to be expected, somewhat, I guess. Various bugs also pop up because components do not always seem to play nice.
One thing I have found as well is that if you are doing a waterfall approach of constructing with a bunch of iterations in the implementation phase, you may end up with a bunch of components that were there early on. Sometimes they start messing up over time, because you've been playing with the data below or with the chart itself. E.g. on line charts label start distorting, or the frames flicker. In radiobutton boxes the boxes are not aligned properly. Checkbox labels are clipped at the end until you hover over them etc..
Solution: remove the components, add anew. If not too many components with a tough spreadsheet below, export Excel, start a new.

  • System optimization freezes during Itunes 7.6 upgrading

Hi, the last step (system optimization) freezes during the Itunes/Quicktime/Imovie upgrading.
What can I do ? Thanks for any advise.

Here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:

If you're just seeing a "flash" of a blue screen, we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (On Vista, go "Start > Control Panels", click "Classic View", click "System").
    2) Click "Advanced System settings".
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
