Imovie hangs at the nearly end of a project

Ok I try to find more infos but I can't find postings concerning my problem.
I've got a project wich is nearly finished. The duration is about 50 minutes. Then i want to put on the last 2 sound tracks. But one of a sudden imovie hangs.
restarting the mac-no difference
clearing .plist(in library)-no difference
clearing cache files in the imovie events-no difference
is there a chance to get rid of this hangs.....

ok
one more i'm running a MacPro 2009
perhaps this is important

I tried to update 10.9.2 but the update hangs at the very end of the installation.  I had to do a hard reboot to clear and when I rebooted the update was not installed.
    Thanks,

    Hey pdruryfl60,
Give the Combo Update a try. That should do the trick.
    Hope that helps!

  • Moved Itunes library now imovie cannot find the audio in my project

I just moved itunes library from my external drive to an internal drive on my Mac laptop. Now iMovie cannot find the music tracks for my project. How do I tell iMovie where to look for the new location of iTunes library

I'm the same as you with this one.
I had to move my itunes library to a new hard drive because it was taking up too much space. Now my imovie projects can't find my itunes library. One sound track when I right clicked in imovie I had the option to find media so I just located the same file but in a new location. This, however, doesn't work for all audio in my many projects.
I'm feeling very disheartened with the whole thing.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Why does the play-head go back to the beginning of a timeline/project by default

When working in timeline mode, the program (Premier Elements 10) often wants to go back to the very beginnning of the timeline/project when you're working on the tail end of a project, (which of course, is most of the time). I'm not sure what key or function I may be hitting to cause this behavior because it doesn't happen 100% of the time (more like 80%). But it's quite frustrating to continually have to zoom out to view the whole project/timeline, stop the playback (it automatically goes into play mode from the beginning of the timeline), and then zoom back to where you were working at the end of the project.
I have been through all menus and can't find an option to shut that "feature" off.
    I'm running Premier Elements 10 on a Windows 7 (64 bit) machine.

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
The answer to your question as I understand it is printed here already.
That would be, to get the Timeline Indicator back to the start of the Timeline 00;00;00;00, you would press the Home key.
All possible interpretations are included in what is already writtten above:
Computer Home Key takes the Timeline Indicator to the start of the Timeline.
End Key takes the Timeline Indicator to the end of the Timeline content.
Clicking on a spot on the gray area immediately above sight of the Timeline tracks commands the Timeline Indicator to that spot.
The Timeline Indicator can be moved from clip to clip (left to right) Page Down and from clip to clip (right to left) Page Up.
If you do not want playback of your Timeline content immediately after it is rendered there, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/General and remove the check mark next to "Play work area after rendering previews".
You can also check Edit Menu/Keyboard Customization/Application to see if there is anything of interest there.
If I have not targeted your question, please give further details and I will think about this some more to determine if there is something that I am overlooking.
    Thanks.

every time I repair my iPod with iTunes, it hangs at the end of the process (while checkin the recovery of iPod). What can I do?

I chose to restore it to factory defaults, but that never succeeded.
It hangs at the end of the process.
    printscreen:
    http://users.telenet.be/kevvanbelle/iPod/ipod.JPG
    Language is Dutch :-)
    Littery it says:
    Check of Recovery of iPod.
    Already for 40 minutes.
    I closed down iTunes.
Now, when I turn on my iPod, there is the icon of iTunes with an usb cable towards it.
When I attach it to my computer and turn on iTunes, the message is there that a iPod was stuck in recovery mode and I should retry it.
And then I get the same story. Unpacking, installing, checking... blocked!

You can change a preference to make tabs open
    # at the end of all open tabs
    # immediately after the current tab.
    See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config
*Type '''about:config''' in the URL bar and press the Enter key.
*If you see the warning, accept it (promise to be careful).
    *Filter = browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent
*Look at the "Value" column ('''false'''=open at end, '''true'''=open after current tab); Value = true is the default.
*Double-click that preference to toggle the value from true to false, or false to true

Can't pull a clip onto the end of my timeline ... (1st time on iMovie) One of the clips has an orange highlight on it. Is this causing the problem?

Ahhh, now I see the problem, Grasshopper.  Problem is, we are all Grasshoppers, here.
Yes, that little piece of info is critical. I'd say the biggest difficulty with FCPX is the whole new language.
If I read you correctly, your Audio is in the Main Storyline (Track 1 in plain old Editorese). This makes anything else you add (above or below) a "connected clip", which we can no longer think of as "Track 2" because Jobs sez so. So, yes, you cannot just add a transition to either end of a connected clip.
No argument with Tracy's solution, because I haven't seen any other general solution presented for any attempt to treat connected clips as the main storyline.  And, of course, when they were "track 1" and "track 2", you could.
An alternative solution, however, is to highlight the connected clip and press Ctrl-V to bring up the Video Animation Editor.  Click the "reveal button" for Compositing: Opacity (bottom, right).  Once open, there is a "fade handle" to the right top.  Drag it left for however much fade you wish.  (there is one on the left as well, but you were only talking about a fade-out.)
A second alternative, perhaps for future projects where everything keys on audio, may be to create a Gap clip (used to be called slug) in the primary storyline before ever dropping in the audio.  Then you can add video to the main story line and modify it without having to go thru hoops to do the simplest thing.

  • Why doesn't the volume control settings allow a greater range (on the low end)?

Maybe my ears are really sensitive, but for every iphone I've had, the lowest volume is not low enough.  My phone is often louder than I want in my headphones even at the lowest setting.  I find myself trying to lower the volume but ending up in silence.  After putting it back up to the lowest setting, I end up clicking down again a few minutes later because it's too loud for my surroundings and situation.  It's a huge volume jump from the lowest setting to completely off, and alot of times the lowest setting is too loud (even with normal buds or headphones).
The volume limiter setting only limits the upper end, but doesn't change the lower end (just makes the 16 set increments smaller in that reduced range).  I know there is also an option to turn down the volume of individual songs in iTunes options, but this problem applies to all aspects of the iphone beyond just my music library (Music apps, Videos, etc.).
Why hasn't apple expanded the lower volume limits?  There has to be a way, or is this not possible?  Can anybody think of a way to fix this problem?

    Meg St._Clair wrote:
Look for headsets with a volume control.
I did exactly this for awhile.  I used to have Skullcandy Asyms with the inline volume attenuator (wheel).  They've since discontinued them, and my 5 pairs are having wire connectivity issues.  All their current models have iphone like volume mechanisms.  The problem is most headphones with volume controls tap into the phones own volume control (so the set 16 volume increments).  I also looked into using a dongle attenuator, but having the dongle hanging off the phone is just awkward and not easily adjustable.
I don't know why there can't be some form of internal attenuator option, or some other way of extending the lower range of volume.
Does anyone else have this problem of the iPhone being too loud in semi-quiet environments?

  • What to do when my Macbook air won't load from startup. It hangs in the middle during the black apple screen at the beginning

my Mac book air will not start up it hangs in the middle of the status bar when I turn it on and will not move.

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
To restart an unresponsive computer, press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
    b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
    Step 3
Sometimes a startup failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 4
If a desktop Mac hangs at a plain gray screen with a movable cursor, the keyboard may not be recognized. Press and hold the button on the side of an Apple wireless keyboard to make it discoverable. If need be, replace or recharge the batteries. If you're using a USB keyboard connected to a hub, connect it to a built-in port.
    Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can start up now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
    Step 7
If you've started from an external storage device, make sure that the internal startup volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Start up in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know the login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you start up in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, the startup volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 11. If you ever have another problem with the drive, replace it immediately.
If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the startup process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select the startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.
    Step 9
If the startup device is an aftermarket SSD, it may need a firmware update and/or a forced "garbage collection." Instructions for doing this with a Crucial-branded SSD were posted here. Some of those instructions may apply to other brands of SSD, but you should check with the vendor's tech support.
    Step 10
Reinstall the OS. If the Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 11
Do as in Step 9, but this time erase the startup volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically restart into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer the data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 12
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a startup failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 13
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • IMovie Hangs For 50 Seconds When I Open It

I use iMovie '11 (9.0.8). For some reason, when I first open it, it hangs for about 50 seconds, displaying the spinning pinwheel cursor. I can't skim over clips while it's hanging, I can't start editing a project. I can't do anything.
Does anyone know why this might be happening? How can I fix it?

It appears the behavior is caused by iCloud pushing the information, to include the password, to Mail.
If I delete my iCloud account password and save the changes, the password reappears without me typing it in.
If I go to System Preferences/iCloud and uncheck the sync Mail box, my iCloud account in Mail disappears. When I recheck the sync Mail box, the account reappears, complete with password.
Based on my testing, you are stuck with things the way they are.
If you want to provide feedback to Apple, you can do that in Mail under the Mail menu.

  • Just imported clips and edited as new project. closed imovie. came back later and the entire project was gone. i was not done so i did not finalize it. how do i get the program to keep my project in progress

running imovie on a powermac w 10.6.8. went through the tutorials. imported my clips, got the hang of basic editing, and created a project.
was pretty happy with it, but needed to shut down and come back to work on it later. when i did come back, the entire project was gone.
how do i get the program to save my work in progress, without finalizing it?
    thanks

So, everything worked out just fine!
I have all my material in the ProRes Codec on a seperate drive now. The project itself was kept or rather duplicated, the bin structure etc stayed the same but is linking to the newly created files. The playback and workflow is fluent. I am happy!
Time info: For about 120 GB of material the codec change process took 25 hours.
    Thanks for your help!

  • IMovie Hangs After Full Quality Sharing Is Complete

    Hi,
Why does this happen? I did a Full Quality Share on a 2-1/2 hour multi-clip movie (using Share Selected Clips Only). The export progress dialog hung after the export was clearly finished. I eventually had to Force Quit iMovie.
The exported movie looks fine in QT Pro. However, Movie Properties in QT shows that this movie is 24 frames longer than what I exported from iMovie. Doesn't seem to be a big deal, but annoying nonetheless.
I'm more concerned about iMovie hanging after a long movie export as described.

2-1/2 hour multi-clip movie (using Share Selected Clips Only)
so, your project is in timeline even longer then 150min? how much did you import into iM, to create such a "beast"? must be a gigantic project, hm?... Titanic II... ;-))
iM is a consumer product, we do read of reports here, that from some point of size (imported data, length, complexity of project), iM is a little "overwhelmed..." esp., iM is part of iLife, meaning, mainly meant exports go to tape (=60min max.) or iDVD (120min max.)
secondly, MacOsX is a UNIX system, which makes excessive use of socalled temp-files on (startup-) harddrive... it is recommended, not to overcrowd the drive 80 - 90% of max.
probably, your ~35GB of data transfer from a ~60GB project was simply too much for your Mac?
    helpful?

  • Cannot add items to DOCK. Dock bar near end?

I cannot add items to the dock and the dock bar is near the end of the dock listing. I cannot move the bar.

    Please clearify...
You can move the doc with the Dock system preferences to left, bottm, or right.  Or using something like TinkerTool vertically left side or right side.
As for adding items, generally applications are to the left of the divider (toward the right end) and other stuff to the right of the divider.  You add stuff by dragging it into the dock and option drag it out to remove it (or control click and use the options contextual).
Are thses things not working for you?
