IMovie has a question mark over the icon and will not open. Help!

iMovie will not open in Admin or any users on iMac. Faded question mark in background behind icon. iMovie is unable to be located in the finder as well. All downloads are up to date.

PhotoBooth Has a Question Mark Over the Icon in the Dock

I'm trying to fix my bosses daughters MacAir. Her brother was playing around with PhotoBooth and now you can't even open it. The icon in the dock has a question mark over it and when I go into her applications and double click on PhotoBooth nothing happens. It looks like it loads but really it's just a quick half second thing and nothing happens. No PhotoBooth options show up on the top either, it just doesn't load at all.
How can I get her PhotoBooth back working? She has Mac OS X Version 10.5.5 and all possible updates are installed.
Any help would be appreciated...

Perform a custom install from the Mac OS X 10.5 disks and install only that component if possible; if not, use Pacifist to install it. In either case, rerun the combo updater for your Mac OS X version afterwards.

Try resetting it while it is connected to power: Hold down the home and sleep button, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttons. It is connected to a wall charger?

Bought new iworks suite this summer - can't open numbers...has a faded question mark over the icon

I bought new updated iworks suite this summer. I've opened and used pages, but when I tried to open the icon on Numbers on my dock it will not open. I only get options" and then can remove from dock. there is a faded question mark over the numbers icon. any help would be appreciated. thanks, K

Where are the applications stored on your HD ?
Keynote.app, Numbers.app and Pages.app must be located
in the folder Applications:iWork '09
What you see in the Dock are symbolic links (kind of aliases) to the applications.
It seems that for some reason the link between the Numbers symbolic link and the app is broken.
(1) check the locations of the applications and if they aren't in the correct ones, repair this oddity.
(2) If needed, uncheck the local menu item : Dock > Numbers > Options > Keep in the Dock
then drag the icon to the Desktop. You will get the Poof icon saying that the symlink is destroyed.
(3) Double click the Numbers.app icon to run the app.
(4) Now you will be able to check the local menu item : Dock > Numbers > Options > Keep in the Dock
so that the Numbers icon will remain in the dock when you quit the app.

My computer says firefix is running....I can not find it and when I click on the icon it will not open. What can I do?

I can not get firefox to open when I click the icon. A box appears and tells me firefix is running but I can not find it anywhere. I have tried to delete it and everything else I can think of and it will not open. Please tell me what I can do.

I used to have this problem on my old XP computer, too. The easiest way to fix it is to restart your computer. Use Shutdown and restart. This will stop the firefox process that is hanging and won't show up on your screen.
If you are somewhat computer literate, you can look at all your running processes by pressing Ctrl Shift Esc all at once using the three finger salute. Look at the list of processes to find firefox, highlight it, and select end process. Then go back and click on your shortcut to your firefox to regain control and display it on your screen.
Be sure to upgrade to the latest version of firefox, Version 5. It works much better than previous versions.

HT1414 my ipod has a solid color on the screen and will not respond at all what do I do?

I was playing a game and the it just went to this screen that is kinda red and will not respond at all. I have tried to connect it to itunes to restore it but it never shows up. Is there another way to reset it? Right now I am just waiting for the battery to die.

I think I accidently trashed my chess app. that came installed on my computer, how do I get it back, it isn't in my apps but on my dock and when I clicked on it a question mark showed up in the chess icon. Really dumb I know. But I am a novice at computers.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

Mail has different icon and will not open

I haven't used Mail for a while, and I recently tried to open it only to find that something is very wrong. My Mail icon is not the traditional stamp icon that it used to be. Instead it looks like this: http://i29.tinypic.com/156d7jp.jpg
That is the icon for the app in all of its locations, not just my dock.
Also, when I click on it, it simply bounces once and then does nothing. The application will just not open.

Something has wrecked the Mail program for you. You may be able to correct it by downloading the Combo Update for 10.5.8 (it is 759 MB, btw) and installing it over the existing system. But this "Mail app" may be too far gone. If so, you would then delete it from the Applications folder, and then reinstall it from the install disk, using Optional installs. You would then have to immediately apply the same Combo Update to advance it to Mail 3.6, in the proper build and version.

Iphone 4s has vertical lines all across the screen and will not power down unless it is charging. What is the problem here?

My iphone 4s recently stopped turning on. I left it alone on the charger for a few days and now will power on just fine. However I have vertical lines going across the entire screen. I also noticed that it will not power down and stay off unless it is connected to the charger. Is this a hardware problem?

Try to Reset your device.
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off option that shows up first).

Help, My Safari doesn't show its icon and will not open?

So heres some help for you:

I can see that Safari is NOT in the Dock ...
Did you check out if Safari is still in the Application folder ?? open Finder an go to the application folder.
If it's still there than you can drag a copy to the Dock.
Do the following ... Select Safari icon an hold down the mouse an the Option key ad the same time while dragging to the Dock. During dragging you will see a + (plus) next to the Safari icon.
Place the Safari icon in the Dock where you like it, next to the Fire Fox icon is maybe the best place to put it.
Post back with the results ...

Firefox will not open, it is not running in the task manager, but when I click on the icon, it will not open a firefox screen.

I have tried uninstalling the program, so that i could re-install it, but during the uninstall it says i have to close the currently open firefox page, But there is no page opne. There is no page in the lower left corer of my screen, and when i opne task manger, it does not say that firefox is running. I have tried updateing firefox on the website, but during the update it says the same thing, that firefox is running, and i need to close it. I can not get firefox to opne, and i hate using internet explorer, PLEASE HELP!!

In the Task Manager, make sure to check both the Applications tab and the Processes tab. On the Processes tab, Firefox may have two different components running: firefox.exe and plugin-container.exe. Well, in 3.5.11, it would be only the first one.

I went to go onto my iphoto app on my macbook pro today and realised it was missing and imovie has a question mark on the app and won't let me open it can any help me get it back please? I haven't messed with it nor deleted it so haven't got a clue where it has gone or what's happened. I've managed to get them back for all the other people who are having the same problem go onto the app store on your Mac and once it loaded click 'Purchases' with a little price tag by it and look for it in the list and it should be there for you to install it again for free

My actual InDesign File has become an alias and will not open...how do I fix?

My actual InDesign file (61MB) is listed as an alias in the Finder and will not open in InDesign. This has happened since upgrading to Mavericks. This is a critical file to me; how do I make it just a standard InDesign (.indd) file again? Changing the filname extension does nothing. Help!

OK so I’m late contributing to this thread, but this issue has recently started on one of our SMB shares and has been plaguing me for 6 weeks. I spent some time trying to find a fix and found any number of users who have had this issue, I tried a lot of 'fixes' which I'd cut and past into a text file from various user groups and cannot remember where I picked this one up so apologies to the orginal poster.
I’ve also posted this fix in a number of forums so hopefully others searching for a fix can find it.
You may need to download and install Codekit, I already have it installed and forget sometimes that some of these ‘hacks’ only work with it installed.
Launch terminal and use this command /usr/bin/SetFile -a a followed by the path name to the damaged file.
Something like
/usr/bin/SetFile -a a /Volumes/YourServer/ShareName/FileName.alias
The easiest way to get the correct path name is to launch Terminal and drag the damaged file to the command line, Terminal will create the correct path, now all you need do is paste the command in to the Terminal command line before the path and hit return.
I don't expect you will have this issue with InDesign files stored on your local HD, it only seems to occur with files stored in a share on a Windows server accessed via SMB.
