  • How can I export an iMove Project if the Event file was deleted?  (Missing Media error message)

    Deep iMovie question:
I accidentally deleted various EVENT files from my iMove EVENTS folder.  Yes, they are really gone ... this is NOT a matter of restoring them from the trash.
The projects are still there ... I can still watch the projects as long as I am in iMovie ... but if I try to export the Project I get the MISSING MEDIA error message.
Logic tells me that if I can view the project ... the  file has to be SOMEWHERE inside my computer ... else I couldn't be watching it ... right?  I mean what am I watching if not some file somewhere which has moving pictures stored in it?
So HOW do I get to something I can export?  What am I watching when I watch the project?
I have iMove 08 on iMac with OS 10.6.8
Normally works great for my simple needs ... except if you move or delete an event file ...
    Can anyone out there help?
    thank you,
    Natasya

If you don't have the original files then I'm afriad you don't have anything to work with.
    Regards

  • I have a Panasonic FZ38 HD camera. I can load and view my hd movies onto iMovie with no problems via my camera or a card reader.  When I try to copy my hd videos from my old Windows pc to my new iMac, the picture speed has doubled but the sound is normal.

I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ38 HD camera and have lots of hd movie clips stored on my old Windows Pc using Photofun software supplied by Panasonic, which I want to transfer to my new Imac computer.   I am able to copy my most recent movies that are still on the memory card from my camera onto Imovie and view them with no problems at all.  When it comes to copying my old existing hd movies stored on my Windows Pc (and which are no longer stored on a memory card), I discover that when I view them on the Imovie, the speed has doubled but the sound is normal.   In order to transfer my old movies I have copied them back  onto a memory card (SDHC - the same card as previously used) and then put the card back into my camera and then copied them onto my Imac via the camera USB.   I have also used a card reader but get the same result.     If I view the same movie through my camera, or look at it on my old pc, it plays at normal speed.    Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening please?

have you read and watch the Tutorials..? :

iM is a bit.. iffy, when it comes to the definition, what a 'camera' is. historically, only tape based machines were a movie-camera. nowadays still-cams allow movin' images too..
but, as mentioned above: the intended workflow is: material from photo cameras (even when they move) => import via iPhoto; material from video cameras (even when they don't move.. ) => iMovie
when the import is done, you'll notice in all iLife apps the 'media browser' - in iM09, on the very right, the icon with a camera on.. click it, presto, all (incl. your 'videos') your iPhoto Library at hand for usage in iMovie.

  • IDVD Stops Responding when Exporting from iMovie

I'm using iDVD and iMovie (from iLife 06 and fully up to date) on a MacPro (also up to date on all software, MacOSX, Quicktime etc).
This proceedure has worked before several times but now results in a non-responding iDVD every time I try it, including an archive and re-install and a complete new install of OSX and all software on a new partition.
    What I'm doing.....
[1] Recording a TV programme on EyeTV (410) and exporting it to iMovie - sucessful every time
[2] Edit the iMove project and add chapter markers and save project - no problem.
[3] Export to iDVD - iDVD shows exporting in progress and whilst this is still showing iDVD launches
[4] iDVD starts playing the music from a std theme for a few seconds and then stops. Then resumes the music after resizing the window and then after a couple of more seconds freezes. From the Dock I can see that iMove and iDVD are "not responding"
[5] Eventually iMovie completes it's "export" and then starts responding normally. iDVD continues to show as non responding although I can move the window around the screen. I have to force quit iDVD to get it to close down.
    I have tried:
    Re-exporting the project from EyeTV
Deleting the preferences files for iMove and iDVD
Deleting the iLife suite and re-installing
Doing an OSX archive and re-install
Installing a fresh OSX (10.4.8) on a different drive and installing fresh software
Running Disk Utility - clean bill of health on both drives
    Repaired permissions
The Console reports the following errors when exporting from iMove to iDVD:

Result - problem persists. I'm at a loss as what to do next. Any suggestions greatfully received.

Yes, tried that when I deleted the preferences. Disk Utility did not report any permissions needed repairing.
What really mystifies me is that this export to iDVD did work once and I expected it to resume once I'd created a fresh OSX install along with all the iLife apps on a new partition, but it remained the same!
Perhaps there is some sort of other software conflict going on? I have Adobe CS2, MS Office, Toast and FMP installed all are latest editions. On the utilities front I have installed Stuffit Deluxe, Internet Cleanup, Contour USB controller for video editing and a LogicTech wireless trackball. Again all the drivers are the latest releases.
Does anyone know if there are any preferences associated with the other not responding applications listed in my other post that I could try the delete-reboot trick on?

  • "No camera attched" error..using iSight in iMovie HD

    I am using:
    iMac G5 2GHz
    OSX 10.4.2
    iMovie HD 5.0.2
I have all software updates downloaded. I have all programs closed except iMovie. I only have the iSight (firewire port) and a Mighty Mouse (USB port) plugged in. Keyboard is bluetooth.
When I run iMovie I select the camera mode and select iSight...then the iMovie screen turns blue and states "No Camera Attached." I've tried unplugging and replugging in the firewire cable on both ends and have tried other ports. I've tried booting iMovie with and without the iSight already plugged in. I've tried rebooting including the Safe Mode reboot for maintenance. I've run disk utility.
The iSight works perfectly fine in Quicktime and iChat (yes, I closed them before running iMovie).

Ok, so now I've also removed all reference to iMovie in Library/Preferences under my login (also none were found under Harddrive/Library/Preferences). I've reset the Pram. Downgraded to QT 7.0.1.
    It still does not work.
Couple of new notes. I noticed when QT or iChat run..the iSight light turns green. When you close those the light on the iSight goes out. When iMovie is running the iSight never turns green. So I tried running QT while running iMovie. In iMovie, it does not recognize any cameras as being plugged in.
I closed both programs and reopened iMovie. It then sees the iSight again (as normal under the camera mode selection). But still says No Camera Attached.
Seems strange that it recognizes it plugged in and available but doesn't work. I think I will reinstall iMovie unless there are other suggestions?

  • Opening an iMovie 08 in iMovie 06

Is it possible to open a movie imported in iMovie 08 in Imovie 06? Does not seem to work. I have 10 hours of movies I would like to edit in 06 since I re loaded it, and I really do not want to re import them again!

I normally try to do everything with iMovie 06 (especially if I'm going to burn a DVD). I think it's fairly common to use iMovie 08 has an import engine only but then do your editing with iMovie 06 (when importing DV I use IM06).
iMovie 08 has two areas: events and projects. Events are just collections of clips. If you import DV video into iMovie 08, they end up as DV clips, at original quality in events. You can import these clips into iMovie 06 projects without quality loss by just starting a new project and importing the clip files from the iMovie 08 Events folder. This however makes a complete copy of the clip inside the iMovie '06 project file.
In the Finder, open the "Events" folder associated with your captured/imported files, Copy/Move them to another location, discard the "Event" from iMovie '08, close the application, Open iMovie 06 and import/Drag and Drop as you normally would.

  • Opening iMovie '08 files in '06

I just installed iMovie 08 so I use a AVCHD camera. Works great. But '08 seems to lacking many features, plus its really confusing (totally different from '06). I thought you could import into 08, save then open and edit in 06. I can't even figure out how to "save as" in 08. I found the 08 files (automatically named "my first project" and "event....") but can't open either in 06. HELP!
ps. I posted this first in the 08 forum and realized its really a 06 question.

But '08 seems to lacking many features
Many reviews of iMovie 08 recommend using both iMovie 08 and iMovie 06.
I do find that iMovie 08 is "feature reduced" and not as DVD friendly compared to iMovie 06. iMovie 06 is "timeline based", iMovie 08 is "clip based". The lack of a true timeline in IM08 is hard to get used to for some.
iMovie 08 is NOT an upgrade of iMovie 06. It is a completely new application. iMovie 08 is better for absolute beginners that don't want to burn a DVD. Most others will like iMovie 06 for its far greater editing power and ease of making DVDs. (Like creating Chapter Markers and Share to iDVD.)
When iLife 08 is installed, all of the old applications are automatically deleted EXCEPT iMovie 06, because Apple WANTS you to have it.

  • Export iMovie 08 to 06???

Read a lot about staying with iMovie 06 over 08 for better editing functions. OK, here is my problem... 06 does not recognize my camera, while 08 does (JVC GZ-MG130) so importing into 08 is much easier. So what is the BEST wayto export out of iMovie 08 for importing to 06??? (Without loosing quality, etc...)

  • IMovie importing from iPhoto cannot do?

I cannot add photos from iPhoto into my iMovie 9.0.2 project?? I see the photo button but it is grayed out on both the project browser and the Window menu where "photo" is also grayed out. What gives???

I believe I found the answer to my prior post (cannot import iPhotos into iMovie). I had created a trailer project in iMovie 11; and apparently you CANNOT import photos from iPhoto into a iMovie trailer project!! Once I created a normal project I can import. Somewhat weird as you would think one should be able to import iPhotos into any iMovie project one created in iMovie... oh well.. live and learn

  • IMove HD improt to iMove v7 (iLife 8)

I have found I can not import my iM HD project into iM V7. There is a menu choice for this but the file is blank when imported. Anyone have an idea about this?
I can still load the project into iM HD.
    Thanks

I haven't figured this out 100% myself yet. First, it seems it imports only what is on the timeline. So if you have extra clips in the clip viewer, they will not come along.
But even then, I have one iMovie '06 project that comes up empty when imported into '08. Another one imports just fine.
The workaround is to copy the contents of the iMovie project (Show Package Contents in Finder) into a normal folder, and then just import the clips as individual movies.

  • How to restore after clean install(manually)?

    Hi everyone,
I had done a clean install from 10.8.5 to 10.9.3, but I do't want using migration assistant to help restore, I just want to restore some data and my account & ID I had typed in the setup screen by myself
HERE IS WHAT I WANT TO RESTORE:
Garage band all audio&loop(I don't want download from internet again, my internet is slow..), because last time I restore the app but it showed that i need to download a 1.6gb file for the audio&loop file
    game save
    iTunes song
Reminder & Note file, I forgot to export the reminder's list, but I don't want to restore the reminder & note app from Time Machine , but just the user file
    AND ALSO:
How to export and import back iMovie project?- Last time, I just copy the iMovie Project and event folder to my external HDD, but now i put back to movie it say file is missing! And is there any way not to create project and event in my mac's internal hard drive but create everything in external HDD so everything about my video editing will not fill my internal HDD?
RAM fast to fill up after upgrade to maverick from the trusty mountain lion, is this normal(4gb ram 1600 MHz), some time even some small app(iWork, small game, etc), i using memory clean.
I forget to download a other copy of mountain lion when my mac was 10.8.5, now i don't see any of it in app store purchase page, but I have a backup in time machine but soon will gone if it fill up, how to download a other copy again? Or how to take out the 10.8.5 in my time machine to become a OS not just a back up of system? If I never click the mountain lion in mac app store, does this mean I never purchase a 10.8 system even my mac early is come with mountain lion?

Try using the Time Machine application for your selective restore.
    1. You should be able to store all your iMovie projects on the external.
    2. Mavericks normally uses all the RAM to operate faster. Don't use Memory Clean. The OS will release RAM as required.
    3. If your Mac came with Mountain Lion pre-installed, it won't show as a Purchase from the App Store.

  • DV Video Rendering

Hi, I'm a new user to Final Cut, previously using iMovie 6. I'm making a documentary, and I shot hours upon hours of video with my Mini-DV camera in .DV format. When I import these files into FCE 4.0, the red render bar appears above the file, and the audio is simply beeps. Is there a way around this? Because if not, I'd have to render EVERY SINGLE FILE that I have, or convert EVERY SINGLE FILE to a correct format, which is insanely frustrating, and would send me back to working on iMovie. Any help is great. Thanks.

I normally use QuickTime Pro or Compressor for most conversions, but MPEG Streamclip should be able to do it also.
You'll want to convert so the clips will match your Sequence settings in FCE. So if you're using DV NTSC, you'd convert to QuickTime, then choose the DV/DVCPro NTSC compressor.
Here's a good tutorial for MPEG Streamclip by Nick Holmes:
    Part 1: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2059475&tstart=0
    Part 2: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2070861&tstart=0
The first part of the tutorial deals with converting DVD footage, but the principal os the same no matter what your source footage is.

  • What settings to ensure widescreen video isn't 'squashed'?

I'm not very experienced in using iMovie, but I am just about to make a video in iMovie wich uses both widescreen (135º lens coverage) and 'normal' (65º lens coverage) width footage and stills.
I am about to film the widescreen footage, but it needs to be combined with the 'normal' stuff, which was shot on an older digital camera.
I know that this can cause problems - if I use widescreen aspect ratio then it will either stretch the 'normal' footage and stills horizontally to fill the screen or have a black line down each side at those parts of the video.
Similarly, if I use 'normal' aspect ratio, it will either 'squash' the widescreen footage to fit or will 'chop off a bit' of the image each side.
For me, the last of those is what I want to happen - so what settings to I need to use to ensure that the finished video has no 'squashed' or 'stretched' video, but 'chops off' the left and right extremeties of the widescreen footage that won't fit in the normal aspect ratio.
That way I can film the widescreen footage in such a way that there is nothing important at the left and right extremities of the image - and so the finished video will look OK

    Bump. Can anybody help, please?

  • Where are my clips stored?

I import video using iMovie, then drag the clips into FCP, and delete the iMovie project. What folder or location are my clips sotred in after I drag them into FCP. Where can I locate them to delete clips I do not need. Is there any other more direct way of importing video to be used in FCP, or is using iMove the easiest solution?

I'm not sure how you acquired the clips originally ... you say you imported them into iMovie, but do you mean that you captured them from tape? If so, they should still be in the same folder that they were captured and saved to in iMovie.
If you imported them, you'll have to remember where you stored them when you first saved them to your hard drive(s). You can do a search/find for one of the file names to help if you can't remember.
Is there any other more direct way of importing video to be used in FCP, or is using iMove the easiest solution?<<</div>
In FCP, the normal way for importing files is to go to File->Import then select whether you want to import individual files or a whole folder of files. To capture footage from tape, use the Log & Capture function as outlined in the FCP manual.

  • MJPEG HD and 24 fps

I use iMovie 5 because I like it better than 6 and because I use of ton of picture correction plug ins since I do a lot of film transfer work.
I am considering having an old 16mm film transferred into high definition. The film is 24 fps. The transfer company uses Motion JPEG HD as the codec and will maintain the 24 FPS speed.
Will iMovie 5 accept this codec? Will I be able to import the file, do my picture corrections and then export the file and maintain the 24 fps speed throughout? Lastly, will QuickTime play this codec at this speed?
    Thanks.

Providing a 24fps facility in video-editing programs is really for working in the opposite direction: it's primarily ..or was originally.. for people who want their cheaply-shot video material to be capable of being easily copied to film for showing in movie theatres. (..It was for documentary makers, and was introduced as a gimmick on cheaper home camcorders, although now mainstream movie makers - e.g; Danny Boyle and "Slumdog Millionaire" - use the facility to shoot hi-def video at 24fps and then transfer that to film after editing..)
If you're starting with film - e.g; 16mm at 24fps - but want to show that film on video equipment (..Blu-Ray, computer screen, whatever..) there's no need to keep it as 24fps, as long as the transfer to video at some other frame rate doesn't spoil the clarity or resolution.
iMovie can't handle 24fps, because it's a normal camcorder video editor. And MJPEG isn't a normal video codec.
But QuickTime can handle all sorts of MJPEG, because it's a Playback/Editing/Preparation program which deals with almost every sort of moving image you can throw at it: its specs ..or the specs of QuickTime Pro.. list all these varieties of image handling (click that blue link).
"..will QuickTime play this codec at this speed?.." ..Should be able to.
Here's the QuickTime Pro FAQ ..just ask in the QuickTime Discussions for further info ..or QTKirk will give you more info here in iMovie Discussions.
But you're unlikely to be able to edit your MJPEG/24fps transfer in iMovie. You can edit, however, in QT Pro. Final Cut Pro can edit just about anything.
iMovie, though, is for common video codecs, such as DV, HDV, AVCHD, H.264/MPEG4 as used in various movie camcorders, and it isn't intended for specialised codecs which aren't found in common camcorders. iMovie 5 certainly won't handle 24fps. The current iMovie '09 (which doesn't support the various effects plug-ins for earlier versions up to iMovie HD 6) accepts the widest range of codecs of any iMovie version, but can't handle 24fps.
You won't get very high definition from "..an old 16mm film.." because the frame is small, most 16mm optics (the lens for shooting the film, unless it's very recent) weren't especially good, it'll have to go through further optics to be captured, and the quality will probably be not appreciably higher in HD than it would be in standard definition video. Unless, when you say "..an old 16mm film.." this is a reduced version of a 35mm original, such as, say, Bessie Smith singing St Louis Blues. (That's a poor quality YouTube version.)
If it's a home-shot 16mm, then there's probably little point in transferring it to hi-def, and not much point in keeping it at 24fps.
