IMovie HD 6.0.3 will no longer recognize my Sony DCR-HC40 camcorder

My Sony DCR-HCR 40 previously worked with iLife 4 until I upgraded to
Mac OS 10.4.6. After that iMovie no longer recognized my camcorder. I then
upgraded to iLife 6 and iMovie HD 6.0.3. Again, iMovie does not recognize my
camcorder. I've read everyone's comments and tried different suggestions
(including those in iMovie's help pages and connection tips) and still nothing.
I use an iLink Cable and have quicktime 7.1.3. Everything was fine, till the OS
upgrade. Sony is no help. They said contact Apple, so here I am. Any help will
be appreciated.
Thanks.
Power Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Thanks for the response SDIllini, unfortunately when I do go the Disk Utility, my camcorder isn't even show for me to even repair the disk permissions. As monty jr stated, Sony was no help for me either, they also told me that I would need to contact Apple. The problem still remains unsolved though, it's as if the MBP just doesn't recognize the camcorder whatsoever. I'm open to any suggestions, have anymore?

  • MacBook Pro will no longer recognize new SSD via USB

I just received a brand-new 512 GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD from Newegg this morning.
    I own a 15-inch MacBook Pro (Mid-2012) with 16 GB of RAM and a 2.3 GHz Core i7 running Mavericks (10.9.1).
Earlier today, I plugged in the SSD via a third-party USB-to-SATA adapter that I also purchased from Newegg at about the same time. The machine recognized the new drive, and I opened up Disk Utility to format the drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Once that finished, I used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone my existing HDD to the SSD. Before it began, the program asked me to create the Recovery HD, so I enabled that option. The rest of the process proceeded smoothly. I quit CCC, ejected the drive, and put it away for the rest of the workday.
When I arrived home tonight, I plugged the SSD back into the Mac in hopes of test-booting it externally. Unfortunately, the machine will no longer recognize that anything is plugged into the Mac. I find it highly unlikely that the USB adapter could be malfunctioning; I unboxed it this morning and it's been mere hours since the successful clone attempt. I also find it hard to believe that the SSD could be broken, either.
I tried to disable rEFIt and manually invoke the boot selection screen, but even when that happens, the drive fails to mount. For the same reason, I can't erase the drive to start over, either. I've tried both USB ports, as well as rebooting with the SSD connected and unconnected.
My research tells me that people often have problems trying to get SSDs to boot when they've been installed in the drive bay, but nothing I've seen suggests anyone's had a problem booting from the external SSD after a successful clone attempt. What am I missing?

I'd start by resetting the SMC. Follow the method for "a battery you should not remove yourself."
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
I have no experience with Samsung SSD's, but I've read a number of posts here of people having problems with some of them. That could be a possibility.
The other thing you could try at this point is to swap the drives. If it's cloned already and the drive is good, it should boot. That would indicate the enclosure failed after the copy.

  • HP Photosmart 8250 will no longer recognize photos downloaded from Facebook. Any ideas?

I used to download and print photos from Facebook, but the HP Photosmart 8250 will no longer recognize these files on the SD card.  I believe Facebook recently updated it's photo format (incidentally, older images on Facebook still work fine).  Any ideas?
I'm running Windows XP, and have not changed anything on my setup.

The troubleshooting steps in this document may help resolve the issue of black not printing.  If not see the post here.

  • Looking for help getting imovie to recognize sony DCR-SR47 camcorder

Has anyone been able to up load to imovie from sony DCR-SR47 camcorder?

It depends on which camcorder you have.
If it records onto miniDV tape (..or "microMV" tape..) then you definitely need to use FireWire; nothing else will do. Buy one at any electronics store; it's called a FireWire or DV or i.Link cable. It must have a teeny 4-pin connector at one end (..to plug into the camera..) and a larger 6-pin connector at the other end (..to plug into your Mac..)
..unless you have a new MacBook Pro, which needs a slightly different shaped 9-pin FireWire 800 connector instead of the 6-pin connector.
You cannot use a USB connection for tape-based camcorders, even if they have a USB socket ..as that's just for transferring stills, not video.
If your camcorder does NOT shoot onto tape, then you'll need to transfer via USB. That applies for all chip-based and hard-drive based camcorders, and - I think - DVD-based camcorders.
All current AVCHD camcorders use USB.
If in doubt (..but there should be no doubt..) read the camcorder's instruction book. If you can't find the instructions, download them from the manufacturer's website ..almost all instructions are available online.
But if it needs FireWire - if it's a tape-based camcorder - you CANNOT use USB.

  • Iphoto will no longer recognize my camera, says it does not recognize the format....they are jpegs? And now it will not even open when I plug my Canon Eos Camera in to download. I have checked everything on the camera and it is working perfectly....

Iphoto will no longer open when attaching my Canon Eos Camera. I have checked the camera and everything is working perfecty. When I open it myself, Iphoto is working perfectly too. But now when I attach the camera, Iphoto no longer opens at all. Yesterday it did open after a really long wait but it kept saying that it did not recognize the "format" of the images....they were jpegs??? Then it flashed on and off and if I hit download at just the right second they would download. But today it won't work at all. Any suggestions.
    thanks

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Itunes will no longer recognize my 5th generation ipod

Itunes will not recognize my ipod (running Windows Vista. My sons' iphone does not have a problem so it is probably my ipod.
Out of date software on the ipod, perhaps?

Did this iPod previously work with this computer (and the current Windows installation), and it is no longer working for some reason?  Or is this the first time you are connecting this iPod to this computer?
I would try doing a reset of the iPod while it is connected your computer.

Even if the iPod's software is out-of-date, it should still be recognized by iTunes.

  • Optical drive will no longer recognize DVDs

My optical drive is no longer recognizing DVDs. It just makes some noise and spits them back out.  It will read some CDs, and it recognized my expired AppleCare tech support disk, but not DVDs.  I have even tried several DVDs that I watched just a few days ago, and they are no longer recognized by my optical drive.
I checked Apple's optical drive troubleshooting page, and ended up resetting my SMC.  Nothing.
    Any ideas?
I would be very thankful for some help.

I guess the first question would be did it work immediately before the drive upgrade... and stop working immediately after the drive upgrade? That would seem to indicate that they may have damaged something when they did the upgrade. I'm not sure what your service rep meant by telling you that you need to "reinstall the optical drive from your OS disks". There isn't any special software needed for your drive to function properly. Can you read regular data DVDs okay (meaning if you put your Leopard DVD in... can you view the files on it?).

  • IPhoto 9.6 will no longer recognize my Library

I just upgraded my iMac to Yosemite. Once upgraded, I had to update my iPhoto to 9.6. Now, I can't open any of my photos. This is the message I get when I open iPhoto:
    Caution
The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it. iPhoto can try to repair the permissions.
    Repair/Quit
I click Repair, it asks me for my password, I type it in, and it says Repairing photo library permissions
    Then I get:
The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it.
    Ok
I click ok, and then iPhoto closes.
So I tried holding Option and clicking on my iPhoto Library. iPhoto opens up and tells me:
The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it.
Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete.
    Quit/Upgrade
I click upgrade, it says it's upgrading, I watch the bar go all the way to just before the end and then it freezes and iPhoto says it's not responding. I've tried this many times and even left it on for 1-1/2 days to see if anything would happen. I have to Force Quit
    Other things I've tried:
    - Re-installing iPhoto 9.6 twice
    - Using Time Machine to retrieve an older backup of my Library
    - Using iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild my Library
Nothing works. Someone please help me! I desperately need to access these photos for work! Is there something I'm not doing?

The library is corrupt. These are your options:
    1. Restore the iPhoto library from the most recent backup that predates the issue. In this case, you probably don't know when that was.
Advantages: Always works, if library damage is causing the problem and the backup is intact.
Disadvantages: Impossible if you don't have a backup. All changes made since the backup are lost.
    2. Repair or rebuild the library. Be sure to back it up first.
Advantages: May solve the problem with no loss of data.
Disadvantages: May fail. May take a long time if the library is large.
    3. Scavenge the library with a third-party application called "iPhoto Library Manager," which you can find in a web search. From the application's menu bar (not the iPhoto menu bar), select Library ▹ Rebuild.
Advantages: All images should be preserved.
Disadvantages: All books, calendars, and slideshows will be lost.

  • Desktop 4.5, 4.6 and 4.7 will no longer recognize my 8330

For some reason, Desktop 4.5 just stopped recognizing my BB 8330 when I plugged in the USB cable and had Desktop running at the time. I have removed and reinstalled desktop software versions 4.5, 4.6 and 4.7 to no avail. I have swapped USB cables as well. The phone will be recognized as a mass storage device if I answer "Yes" to the phone screen question after attaching the USB cable - in that case, a computer screen dialgue box pops up, asking if I want to view the phone files. I've tried every available USB port on the computer.
After removing and reinstalling Desktop, the computer does recognize the BB, reporting success on blackberry phone device driver installation. It also appears in Windows Vista Device Manager as having no problems. I've done hard resets on the phone several times as well.
    Any ideas?

  • I have an iPod touch 32gb 3rd gen (model A1318) and am unable to update it to iOS5.  When I try, I have to update iTunes first, and when I do that, it will no longer recognize my iPod (so I can't update the iOS).  Help?

If it matters, I'm using a PC that's still running Windows XP, but this isn't my first rodeo, and I know both how to use the software and what applications are and aren't compatible with my computer.
I searched the web for answers, most of which amounted to a shrug and a "Meh."  I called Apple support, who took a couple days to look into it, then had a supervisor call me back.  His response, essentially, was a shrug and a "meh."  So I'm kinda stuck.  Any help you folks could give me would be much appreciated.
In addition, I've been reading a fair amount on how iOS 5 will cause a whole host of problems with the 32gb 3rd gen touch... is this true?  And has Apple resolved it, or are they essentially force-retiring this model?

    Dear Re_trace,
Don't you feel cheated and conned by this product. I am 50 years old and from what you write I can see you know a lot more about your computer than I do about mine. Additionally I live in southern Africa (in fact I live in one and work in another, neither of which appear on the drop down list when you start looking at asking Apple directly for help) and feel they shouldn't allow people to sell their products here (I bought it in a shop that sells i-Macs etc. - not off a guy on a street corner!)if they can't offer support.
I have just been going from error code to another, losing my music that took me hours and hours to install and catalogue/modify in the library etc. and now I've had enough of it.
Essentially it seems to me we have bought faulty products, and made Apple richer than Microsoft in the process.
I'm turningmy back on this bloody iPod Touch, giving it to my son to see if he has the ability and interest to get it working, and if he hasn't I'm just goinbg to have to sell it to a sucker who also wants to buy into the dream, until he wakes up to the reality of shoddy product. hours in front of a computer screen, a fortune in downloads (here I only have about 5 to 10 kb per second download speed), trawling the internet looking for people than have also suffered at the hands of an obviously fatally-flawed system.where every time Apple just recommends to install the latest version of iTunes.
I for one would rather have my money and my wasted time back............
I know I didn't help, but really I don't have any axe to grind against Apple, it's just that the hype in no way lives up to the reality. Look at all the people begging for anwers to their problems on this web-site! I know the shop in Mozambique won't give me my money back, but Apple should, and if Ford sold cars as reliable as these iPods, they'd be banned from selling them........
Or am I just too old to realie how exciting it is internettingf all over th eplace to try to fix what is actually an inferior Walkman........
Good luck solving your problem, and I hope you think that all the effort you are putting in (and which I have now given up putting in), is worth it.
    Hope you solve ht eproblems!

  • ITunes crashed and will no longer recognize my iPod Touch!

My new computer crashed last night while my iPod Touch was in the process of Syncing with my iTunes account.  When it came back up it had to try and recover my iTunes Library. After it did I had to go into my stuff and find all my music and re-add it to my iTunes Library.  That wasn't too much of a problem, I've got back all of my songs, but my apps are all gone and when I try to Sync my iPod Touch with my iTunes Library it gives me a message saying that my iPod Touch is Synced with another iTunes Library and can only be Synced with one at a time so I need to erase my iPod's memory and reload everything from my computer.  The problem is that since it doesn't have any of my apps on there it would completely erase all of my apps and any data I have on them.  So what I want to find out is how I can get it to recognize my iPod Touch again, or if there is a way I can save all of my app data from my iPod Touch and then reset my iPod Touch so that it will recognize it again and then just Sync it again to get all my app data back that would be great too.  I just don't want to lose anything.  I have seen several similar issues but nothing that really seemed to be the right fix for my particular issue so any help will be greatly apprediated!
    Thanks,
    L.M.

    - Transfer itunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - You can also redownload them by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - When they are in your iTunes library, connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.

  • Mac Mini will no longer recognize Apple extreme base as a base. HELP

I have a 2004 apple extreme base station that after a brief power outage would not work. the only thing I could do to get wireless to work was reboot (pushed on the button in the back for 5 seconds).  my computer now recognizes the wireless but it has been reset back to Apple ### and will not recognize it as a base station under the wireless options or in the Wireless Utility.
How do I make my computer recognize the airport as a base station again so I can password protect my network?

The main problem here is that you will need to use....or borrow..... a Mac that is running the Leopard or Snow Leopard operating system to be able to "see" the older AirPort that you have. A PC might work as well.
Macs running Lion, Mountain Lion, and Mavericks cannot be used to configure the older AirPort that you have.
Five years is considered good service for a router, and you have seen ten. You are way ahead of the game.
It is likely time to think about a new AirPort Extreme that will be compatible with the newer Mac operating systems. AirPort Utility on the iPhone and iPad will work on the new AirPort as well.
