IMovie HD 6 and .ppt files

Is it possible to import slides into iMovie HD 6 from a PowerPoint file?
If so, is it possible to preserve interactive features, such as text that moves across screen, etc.?
Is it possible to then import sound and sync this to the slide presentation?
If so, what file formats are compatible for importing into iMovie?
Powermac G4 Digital/Audio 466 mHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

iMovie is meant to work with miniDV camcorders, which use "dv" as compressor...
using Powerpoint on a Mac, you have the export option "create movie"; in case, your version of PPT supports any settings, choose dv; otherwise, you need to convert your resulting mov with QTpro into dv to make it readable for iM...
pic quality: PPT is meant for computer displays; TV has other settings, you will loose quality... esp, smaller typo gets "unsharp"...
Is it possible to then import sound and sync this to the slide presentation?
that is one of the main features of an edit app as iMovie...

  • Opening PDF and PPT files without using BuddyApi

    Hi, please excuse my newness.
I'm wanting to open pdf and ppt files through Director (I'm using 11.5) but I'm struggling with finding the right code to make it work. I saw that a lot of people are recommending Buddy Api. However I'm cheap and was hoping that there would be a way to open files without having to resort to using/paying for this xtra. Is there a reason why opening files in Director seems to be such a hassle?
    Thanks in advance.

I'll also add that from my understanding, an unregistered version of Buddy API can be used in commercial applications.
Buddy API is a great Xtra and if you're going to be developing applications with Director, this Xtra will be a valuable purchase. Buddy Xtra is recommended a lot in the Director forums for a good reason.

  • Can't open InDesign and PPT files by double-clicking on them IN A FOLDER

PPT is MS Office 2004, all other MS programs ok. InDesign is CS4. Files are not corrupt, because they open on two more computers. The computer is brand new. I first installed Office, then CS4. The applications open, but the files don't open when I double-click on them IN A FOLDER. If I go to Open and select the file in the folder, then it opens. If I double-click on it IN A FOLDER, it doesn't open. I tried to do the Info panel thing, where you pick the program for the file, and that didn't work. Also, if I drag the file to the desktop, and double-click on it, it will open. A kind volunteer support person said there was an article about this in MACWorld in Dec. 2009, but I tried the suggestions and it still doesn't work. Basically, I need to use InDesign everyday for world, so this is a major problem.

I have a client with a similar issue regarding InDesign CS4. When double-clicking InDesign files on the server, the InDesign application will launch but the document will not open. Opening the document using the Open command in the File menu in InDesign works fine. This issue does not occur in any other CS4 application. To further complicate the matter, another user at the same location running the same version of the Mac OS (10.6.2) and CS4 does not have this issue. I have tried a fresh install of Mac OS X 10.6.2 and CS4 but the issue persists. I have tried creating a new user account and using the authentication credentials of the user that doesn't have this issue to connect to the server on the problem computer but still the issue persists. Prior to doing the fresh install, I swapped the hard drives between the two computers, but the problem stayed with the hard drive, not the computer, which is what prompted me to perform the fresh install.
Have you come across any new information?

  • Opening .xls .doc and .ppt files

Sorry for the stupid question, but how do i set it so that when I click on one of the files I do not get a message saying that my Microsoft 30 day trail has expired?
I want it to automatically open into an appleworks application.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
First of all, AppleWorks cannot open ppt (PowerPooint) files. You will have to use Keynote (part of iWork), icWord by Panergy Software, Microsoft's free PowerPoint viewer (requires Classic) or one of the free Office clones.
Now, in the Office 2004 trial folder is an uninstaller for the trial. Run that. In typical Microsoft fashion though, if you never ran one of the Office trial apps, the uninstaller won't find anything to uninstall. Although you could just trash the folder, it would be better to run one of the Office apps (don't worry that it will say the trial has expired) then run the uninstaller.
Next, repair permissions using Disk Utility.
Now, highlight a known Excel document in the Finder, highlight it & choose Get Info from the File menu. In the Get Info box, click the triangle next to "Open With." Click on this drop-down menu & choose AppleWorks 6. If AppleWorks 6 is not a choice, choose "Other" & navigate to the AppleWorks 6 application. Now click the "Change" button under the text that asks if you want to open all documents like this with AppleWorks 6.
Personally, I wouldn't do this as quite a few of the newest Excel files can't be opened by the 5-year-old AppleWorks translators. I use the contextual menu to open the file with AppleWorks or open them from within AppleWorks. If it works, great, if not you'll have to use another program. icExcel from Panergy Software or an Office clone are probably best.

  • Will I be able to transfer files of DOC , PDF, excel and PPT from PC to I-pad Air?

I have recently purchased I-pad Air. I want to transfer DOC, PDF, EXCEL and PPT files for PC to I-Pad and vice-versa. Will I-tune 10 do the job abd please let me know the steps tp be followed.

I think that you need iTunes 11.
You can copy word, excel, powerpoint and/or PDF documents to the iPad, but first you need one or more apps on the iPad that support those document types - unlike a 'normal' computer the iPad doesn't have a file system, and everything on it has to be associated with an app.
The options include Apple's Pages app for Word documents, Numbers for Excel spreadsheets and Keynote for Powerpoint. And from third-parties apps such as Documents To Go ('premium' version) and QuickOffice. Microsoft have also released apps, but unless you subscribe to Office 365 you will only get read-only e.g MS Word For iPad.
For PDFs there are free apps such as Apple's iBooks app and also Adobe Reader - and paid-for apps such as GoodReader (which also supports read-only of word and excel documents).
As to how you then get the file to your chosen app will depend upon what the app supports - different apps will have different ways of copying their content to/from a computer e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via your wifi network, email, dropbox etc. For Apple's Pages, Numbers and Keynote : copying documents via iTunes.

  • Displaying ppt and doc files in weblogic

I am working on weblogic 8.1 I have .doc and .ppt files in directories under the
webroot. When I click on the url to display the file I get garbage instead of
getting the option to open/save the file.
How can I enable the open/save option? Do I have to configure anything on the
    server?
    Thanks
    Please respond soon.

It's usually a browser configuration for the mime type.

  • When will Apple have a searchable text reader and upload file capability?

When will Apple have a searchable text reader and upload file capability? I have a large text file I need to upload to my iPhone, search, and dial.
    Anything planned?

I had a Palm the I used for work and travel it had a very nice application called DOCUMENTS TO GO. It allowed you to upload, view, and edit .doc, .xls, and .ppt files. this was very handy when traveling. Also, I could sync my palm with my iMac and work PC using bluetooth, took care of the file transfers as well. I would like to have the same capability on my iPhone. I bought it to replace all of my old stuff i need it to the same as my old stuff. I hope that Apple reads this and gets on the ball. Until then I still have to carry my Palm or thumb drive on trips.

  • Converting .ppt file to iMovie and adding audio

Is iMovie HD the version that comes with iLife '05?
Is iMovie 6 the version that comes with iLife '06?
Is it possible to import slides into iMovie HD from a PowerPoint file?
If so, is it possible to preserve interactive features, such as text that moves across screen, etc.?
Is it possible to then import sound and sync this to the slide presentation?
If so, what file formats are compatible for importing into iMovie?
Are these features improved in any way in iMovie 6?
    Powermac G4 Digital/Audio 466 mHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

In iLife 05 it was the first version ofiMovie with HD capabilities. Now the version is iMovie HD 6.
You can not import a .ppt file, but you can save that file in PowerPoint as QuickTime movie, which can be imported in iMovie (yes, with all things you designed in the .ppt).
You can import any audio that works in QuickTime, including mp3 and AIFF. And for sure you can then sync with the video.
iMovie 6 is better than previous.

  • How do I... (1) "play" a ppt; (2) "see" my sub-folders and their files in "Docs To Go" or "File Manager"?

This is written for the Playbook blog writer in the hope that he will see it here and post a blog answer. However, a reply from anyone would be appreciated. Thanks.
[2 questions about PPBB OS 2.0+]
Hi. Thanks for your very informative blog. I would appreciate it if you would consider writing blog tips to answer the following:
    1) Why can't I organize my files in "Documents" or "File Manager" to "see" them in their sub-folders?
BBPB allows me to create SUB folders in the Documents folder, through my pc's access to the "Documents" folder in the Playbook. However, then I cannot "see" these created sub-folders on my BBPB after I disconnect my BBPB from my PC.
All the files I downloaded into these "sub" folders end up all together in the file list in "DOCS TO GO", either in "Documents" or "Music" or "Video" or "Pictures" ---- but these files are NOT separated into the sub-folders I created. The same thing happens in "FILE MANAGER" i.e. all files on the Playbook are in ONE place only.
Is the Playbook OS ever going to allow one to view sub-folders and what is in them, other than using the pc to do it? For example, it would be desirable to put all my ppt files into one folder.
    2) How do I "play" a PPT file in the BBPB?
The BBPB "User Guide" says that I can "view, edit, or play" Powerpoint Presentations. However, although it describes how to "view" or "edit" individual slides, it does not say how to "play" ("run") a slideshow. How do you "play" a self-running slideshow?
For example, in Windows, you can click "play.bat" (in a saved "presentation cd" folder on a cd or USB stick) to run the ppt with sound and pictures saved in that folder (you don't need the Powerpoint program itself for this, since you are using the "pptview.exe" file in the same folder to "play" it). However, after downloading all the files in this "presentation cd" folder to the Playbook, I could only see one of them, the ppt file itself ---- and there is no icon in the Playbook to "play" the slideshow, it seems. Help?!
     Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

First, I use an app called "File Browser" to view those subfolders.
As for running a powerpoint, I can open a ppt file and it runs in Documents to go. Next to the "Close" button there are three icons. The third one runs the ppt file as a slideshow.
    1. Please thank those who help you by clicking the "Like" button at the bottom of the post that helped you.
    2. If your issue has been solved, please resolve it by marking the post "Solution?" which solved it for you!

  • TS4213 Why can't iPhoto, Pages, Numbers, Keynote and iMovie access my iTunes Library files and Pages, Numbers, Keynote and iMovie access my iPhoto Library files now that I upgraded to '11?

Why can't iPhoto, Pages, Numbers, Keynote and iMovie access my iTunes Library files and Pages, Numbers, Keynote and iMovie access my iPhoto Library files now that I upgraded to '11?
Examples of what is going on:
    1. In Pages, Numbers & Keynote, when I go to the media browser the Audio section reads "Open iTunes to populate this list" even after iTunes has been opened, .xml file has been replaced/repaired, etc  AND Photo section reads "Open iPhoto to see photos from your iPhoto Library in this list" even after iPhoto Library has been replaced and new default library created.
    2. In iMovie, similar thing ... when I go to add photos or music to a movie the iTunes files aren't present and the iPhoto photos are missing with similar messages as in #1.
    3. In iPhoto, similar thing ... when I go to add music to a slideshow it says to "Open iTunes to populate this list".
It is shocking to me that Apple would let something as simple as a pathway link to associated library files get this messed up on an upgrade, but what's even more surprising is that with the number of people who seem to be having this particular issue (and I can tell from all the research that I've done for weeks online that there are a lot of them) that there doesn't seem to be a single clear answer to fixing it anywhere on these community support forums.  Most of what I've seen is rehashed advice from outdated issues.  What I need is a simple answer to how do we get these programs to look for the correct location of the photo and music files because I sure can't seem to find any logical place to do that through the programs' preferences files or the system preferences window?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    P.S. Here's the details on the software/hardware:
    MacBook Pro
    Mac OS X
    Version 10.7.5
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    iTunes 11.0.4 (4)
    iPhoto '11 9.4.3 (720.91)
    iMovie '11 9.0.9 (1795)
    Keynote '09 5.3 (1170)
    Pages '09 4.3 (1048)
    Numbers '09 2.3 (554)

I have the same problem on a new MacBook Pro. I have not been able to access the iTunes library from iPhoto since I got this computer. I looked in the Preferences file and deleted the com.apple.iApps.plist but there was no com.apple.iApps.lockfile so I just deleted the iAPPs.plist and rebooted the computer.  Still no iTunes available in iPhoto.
All my music is in iTunes and plays. After reading the above I brought up Pages and I was able to access music and insert a track into a document.
    Do you have any suggestions.

  • How do I use TC as a network drive to trans/store iMovie and iTunes files?

Can someone please walk me thru how I would have my music and iMovie files stored--not backed up, I got that under control--on my TC? My MacBookPro has less than 200MB of room and I want to be able to use the TC as a network drive (if I'm saying that correctly).
So I already have iMovie and iTunes saving files on my MacBook. I want to move those files/directories to the TC and, going forward, be able to have my MacBook save/store new iMovie and iTunes files on the TC. That is the main reason I bought this thing but I can't make it work.
I have looked high and low for this answer before bugging you guys for help but I just can't figure it out. I was able to save a few iMovie files to the TC, but when I try to access them in iMovie, I see the thumbnails but I get a little yellow triangle on each clip and it won't play it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ed

once i click on the TC in the finder, it shows one other folder "data" (by default). this appears on my desktop as a drive. do i just start moving files anywhere onto this drive, and TM automatically can read the difference between my manual files and it's backup, or is there specific i need to save the files?

  • PLEASE HELP!  iMovie and .MPG Files

Hello. Please help me. I'm on a G5. 10.5.3. iMovie 7.1.2 (577) I have a series of .MPG files that I need to import into iMovie to edit, arrange and then export over to iDVD, etc. iMovie does not see the .MPG files. The Apple site states that iMovie sees only MPEG-4 files and DV files. I also own Quicktime Pro 7.5 (149.5). When I open the .MPG file in Quicktime Pro, even though the file plays perfectly, when I select "Export to MPEG-4" so I can create a readable file by iMovie, I get an error message that say's "Failed: Export process terminated unexpectedly (10). Complete frustration. Is there another way I can convert these files so iMovie can see them? What's wrong with my Quicktime Pro? I bought DivX Pro last night. I thought maybe that program would make an iMovie readable file. No luck. I used DivX to convert and it created a DivX file with NO SOUND. Wasted money.
If anyone has any solutions for my problems noted here or possible alternatives so I can achieve what I'm trying to do successfully, PLEASE ADVISE as soon as possible.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and THANKS, in advance, for your help.

I'm still wondering why QT Pro is failing to convert with that error message.
Well, if the video codec used in the .MPG container is MPEG2, QuickTime cannot export with a source of this format; it can only play it.
I remember reading about the reason for Apple doing this, and I forgot exactly why it is, but I think it had something to do with some legal issue. I also read that this is why Mac OS has a separate DVD Player instead of just playing DVDs right inside of QuickTime.
