IMovie HD 6, Imported Camcorder DV with Timecode, Displaying in iMovie

After importing a clip from my camcorder into iMovie HD 6.0.1 via FireWire, "Clip Info" does show the time and date the clip was recorded (the time according to the camcorder, not the time it was imported into iMovie).
(Previous posts suggested that the time/date info would not be sent along FW, but in my case it is.)
Camcorder is Sony DCR-HC42.
Displaying relative date/time information, like is offered in many plugins, is not an option; I want to see the date/time the clip was recorded on the camcorder.
So now I want that information to be super-imposed on my clips for the first few seconds of each clip. What setting or plugin do I need to make this happen?

Timecodes can be added as an effect.

Advice on importing old mini dv tapes with timecode breaks

I've dug out mini DV tapes from storage which contain priceless (at least to me) family footage. Some of these tapes are close to 11 years old.
Before these tapes degrade and rot further, I'm trying to generate tape archive files on my hard drive using Final Cut Pro 10.1 from these old tapes.
The issue I'm having is with timecode breaks on some of the tapes. After a few minutes of an import, sometimes the video will go a little wonky and I'll get a timecode break and the import process aborts itself. When this happens, I'm forced to start the archive all over again from the beginning, as far as I can tell. If I get lucky, sometimes I'll get through the import after another try but other times the tape is so badly damaged that I can't get through the entire tape.
I believe there used to be a setting to tell Final Cut Pro to ignore these breaks. It now appears this setting is gone. Or am I missing something? If it's gone, is there some kind of workaround I can employ?
Otherwise, if Final Cut Pro isn't up to the task, can someone please recommend software that will help me convert my tapes to archives on my hard drive?
PS. I've used a head cleaning tape on my camera to limit the problem but it still happens with some of the tapes.

You need a DV device to be attached and recognized by your Mac.
Open QTime X.
File>New Movie Recording.
In the control bar click the small triangle.
A list of devices appears to record from.
Make the DV/camera selection and start capturing.
It's all manual start stop and very basic but does capture.

First off....do NOT install MacKeeper! It creates more problems than it prevents, and is a royal pain to get rid of once you realize this.
What I would do, since it sounds like you don't want to reorganize your email filing by the use of Smart Mailboxes, is to simply use the search box at the top of the Mail window to find only the emails you want to delete....then select them all and delete them. For example, if you wanted to delete all of the emails from [email protected], you would type that into your search box, which will filter your inbox to only show you emails from [email protected] Then Select All, and delete them. You haven't deleted any others....only those from that person.
Then clear the search box to see the rest of your emails again.
Repeat this process to delete emails from other senders you no longer need.
(Once you've selected them all, by the way, you can control-click one if you need to save it).

Multi-camera capture with timecode

I recently directed a 4 camera shoot with all cameras sync'd using timecode. I intend to edit the final product using Final Cut Studio 2. However, for now I only have iMovie and Final Cut Express HD. Is it possible to capture this project with timecode in iMovie and import it to Final Cut Studio with timecode so all cameras lock to time? If so, what is the most practical process? Or should I wait until I can obtain Final Cut Studio 2 to capture? Thanks in advance!

Problems importing camcorder video

I have been importing camcorder files to a large external hard using iMovie 6. It has gone very well without a hitch for many many hours. The external hard drive is connected to the computer via fire wire and the camcorder is connected to the computer via fire wire and the iMovie files are saved on th external hard drive. All of a sudden importing became far more difficult. Sometimes importing will terminate (always after 1.16sec) after clicking the import button while the miniDV tape is playing. It works better if I import from a stopped position. Sometimes the multi colored rotating ball appears even if I just press the rewind button. I constantly have to turn the camcorder off and then back on to reset it. If I do not turn off the camcorder, iMovie will quit and sometimes it quits spontaneously anyway. I learned that the external hard drive was not Mac formatted so I bought another 1 TB hard drive, transferred everything from the old hard drive to the new Mac formatted hard drive and tried again. No luck. Same problems. I have 125 GB of free space on the internal hard drive. Oh wise and sage apple discussion forum, any ideas ? The camcorder is a Canon Z100 (same thing happens with the Z600). Canon cams will sometimes have issues w/ having other FW devices on the same buss(ie ext. HDDs).
you can buy a FW ExpressCard, that will fit in the slot on your MBP to create a 2nd FW buss or you can create projects & do the import on the internal HDD, then copy it over to the ext. HDD & work on the project from there. there is no need to copy back & forth from the internal to external, back to external, then internal, etc... once your project & footage are on the external you can edit from there, if you add music from iTunes or pix from iPhoto, the project will have the necessary pointers if the items/files are on your internal.

Importing C100 AVCHD footage (timecode, media start, clip names)

I primarily shoot and edit AVCHD footage from Canon C100. Typical ingest workflow is to use the Data Import Utility by Pixela. This creates individual .MTS files on my with unique file names (GREAT)...BUT when I bring the files into PP CS6 it sets the media start time for each clip at 00:00:00:00 (essentially wiping out the timecode reference). Alternatively, if I simply copy entire contents of the card to my raid then use the Media Browser in PP to import the footage, the timecode—and media start time—is maintained from the shoot (GREAT)...BUT the individual clip names that it assigns always start with 00000.mts, 00001.mts and so on). This creates a problem when relinking footage...because now I've got multiple projects with the same file names. Any ingest workflow recommendations?

Use the original media, which gives you the timecode, and upgrade to CC, which gives you the new Link and Locate feature, making relinking a breeze.

When I import a cd with more than one artist iTunes separates each individual artist - how do I get it to show the album as a whole rather than individual artist?

When I import a cd with more than one artist itunes shows each artist's song separately and won't group the album as a whole - this is incredibly frustrating something that Windows media player doesn't do. Does anyone have a simple cure for this annoyance?

Fireworks Imports - Replacing Tables with Divs

Hi folks,
I love Fireworks to bits but it's intergration with DW is slowly driving me nuts.
Take a look at the code for www.total-formula1.com
I've imported a nav section, top bar and footer from Fireworks - which (IMHOP) look great until you look at the code.
Then it becomes a mess of tables and spacer gif's.
I've tried importing as CSS with images but it looses behaviours.
Am I kidding myself. Do I have to split it all up and use DW to perform rollovers?
Thoughts, help or a loaded shotgun welcome.

Fireworks CSS and Images export does not support Javascript. Same with States, if I recall. CSS and Images will not export out anything but the current state. You would have to add that code (CSS or JS) in by using Dreamweaver or another editor.
If properly set up, you may be able to export the entire page as CSS and images, then only have to add in the CSS to create the mouseover effect, after they've been exported as graphics.

LDIF Importing a user with a non-encrypted password fails, anywork arounds?

I was able to import a group without issue:

So the password must be encrypted then?, if so how to I generate a password hash on the command-line and through JAVA?
Can an import be forced with a plain text password (Tivoli, SUN both support this functionality).
Can I change the constraint that the password must contain a numeric char? (Found in document: http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28196_01/idmanage.1014/b15991/pwdpolicies.htm#g1051713)
After fixing the constaints I can import a non-encrypted password from an ldif, but it can not be verified and only the authpassword;oid entries are created not the authpassword;orclcommonpwd entries.

Eric, my first guess would be that the OID password policy prevents loading of the password i.e. the password doesn't match the existing password policy.
What version is your "old" OID and what is the version of the current OID you're using?
What is the error msg you get?

If I understand you correctly, when you enter a date in the Adjust Date and Time window, the picture does not update with the date you enter. If that is the case then something is wrong with iPhoto or your perhaps your library.
How large a date change are you putting in? iPhoto currently has an issue with date changes beyond about 60 years at a time. If the difference between the current date on the image and the date you are entering is beyond that range that may explain why this is not working.
If that is not the case:
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer and try again:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.iphoto
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iPhoto (There may be more than one. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: to get to the "home > library" hold down option on the keyboard and click on "Go" > "Library" while in the Finder.
Let me know the results.

Is there any way to export 2.35 Anamorphic source to a 16x9 letterboxed frame WITH timecode or text overlays?

I have been trying to export temp cuts of an anamorphic project (2.35:1) in a letterboxed 16:9 frame with timecode and text overlays and other Additional Video Effects. Converting the 2.35 to 16x9 has been a breeze with the Preserve Aspect Ratio option in Cropping & Padding . The problem is that the black bars that that puts in the 16:9 frame appear OVER any of the Additional Video Effects, thus covering them up.
E.g. if I select a Text Overlay and place it in the Center, I can see it just fine. But if I want it Upper Left, Title Safe, it is covered by the black space of the Letterboxing. So the Additional Video Effects are getting added, they are just getting covered by the letterboxing. You can even see the very edge of the text in the Title Safe position, peeking out from behind the letterboxing, which is, of course, frustrating .
Thus far it's been a two-step process: letterbox the anamorphic source, then add TC and other video effects in a second job.
So - is there any way to do this in ONE step? It would really help my anamorphic workflow.

Yes, I've considered adding titles and/or generators in the FCPX storyline, but this creates a need to render the entire timeline. As I'm juggling library locations and hard drive spaces I just didn't want to add a new render that will occupy a lot of space. It's also a bit of visual clultter for me, so my goal is to find the best workflow for adding this stuff on or after export.

Problem importing a table with blob's

hi all, I'm facing the following situation.
Source DB : 10.2.0.3 (client's DB)
Destination DB (mine): 10.2.0.4
I've a dump file (traditional) of a particular schema.
I'm running import (imp) to import on my DB.
It runs fine until it reaches one particular table. This table has 6 colums, 3 of them are BLOB.
This table has 260000 rows (checked with export log).
When import reaches row 152352 it stops loading data, but import is still running.
what can I do to get more information from this situation in order to solve this problem?
Any suggestion will be appreciated!

Pl identify the source and target OS versions. Are there any useful messages in the alert.log ? How long did the export take ? Rule of thumb states import will take twice as long. Have you tried expdp/impdp instead ? Also see the following -
