IMovie HD 6 rendering very low quality

I've tried exporting this movie several ways, from Full Quality to compressed and the video is poor. That is, during transitions, there is jumps in the brightness of the picture. And some of the rendered dissolves are simply not smooth, but "digitized" looking (like a bad YouTube video... actually, they're all bad).
Anyone know a secret in rendering that I'm missing? The movie is a combination of stills and some video.

I think your problem is that you are rendering in iMovie. Doing a search will turn up posts regarding this. Here's one http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7588332&#7588332
Don't export/render from iMovie. Just close it and import it from iDVD and let iDVD do the rendering.

  • Rendered video very low quality

My camera shoots in MTS format. I converted the file to mp4 and edited it. I then imported that footage into After Effects and when I tried to render the video it was very low quality. I made sure the composition settings and render settings matched that of my video. I tried saving it as H.264, mov, avi, m4v, and mpeg2 non of which were good enough quality to use. The avi format came close in quality for the video but everything seemed to move in slow motion. The audio played perfectly though. I also tried rendering video directly from the MTS file and it still didn't work.
Is there a specific way I should convert or encode the file? I tried some different settings within Adobe Media Encoder but when I brought the file into AE and tried to render I got the same issues of it being low quality.
This is for a client so it's very important that I get the needed effects added to this video. Thanks in advance for any help!

I understand how After Effects rendering works and different file types. I just wanted to try rendering in different formats just make sure I hadn't missed something. I figured something out that came close to the quality I need so I guess it will have to work.
My original MTS file is 1920 x 1080 and 29 fps.
I rendered it with these settings originally
    NTSC, 1920 x 1080
    29.9 fps
    Bitrate CBR 30 Mbps
The file came out choppy and noticeably lower quality.
The last time I rendered it with these settings:
    NTSC, 1280 x 720,
    59.94 fps
    Bitrate CBR 20 MBps
The quality was much much better. It still had a little distortion with a lot of movement but it was much more bearable so I guess that's what I'm going with. If anyone knows of any better settings it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

  • Why is it that when I connect my iPhone 5S to my Windows Vista computer, the photos made with my iPhone are all of very low quality and most of them are turned upside down?

Why is it that when I connect my iPhone 5S to my Windows Vista computer, the photos made with my iPhone are all of very low quality and most of them are turned upside down?
On another note, the iPhone tells me that it's ''busy'' when opening a photo on the computer.
(I tried restarting my PC, connecting via another USB port, importing using PhotoStream, etc...)

Are you using the front or rear camera? When you say they are low quality, are you referring to file/pixel size, or how the picture looks? As far as upside down, how are you holding the phone? Older versions of Windows have issues reading the Metadata from the pictures and will not display the same.

  • After import from Iphoto some pictures are of very low quality. The original file in Iphoto is very good.

    Final cut Express
I imported several pictures by using Iphoto. Some of them, not all, are of very low quality even if the original file is of a very good quality.

It sounds as though you may have imported the thumbnails but I can't imagine how.
It all depends on what you mean by very low quality.
Your iPhoto  pictures will be around 4,000x3,000 pixels but when they are imported into a standard def timeline they will be around 720x540 which is a tremendous reduction.
They should still look OK but not  as good as the brilliant hi-res originals.

  • DVR replay on the non-DVR STB - very low quality

I started recording a football game on the DVR, and about 45 minutes later I began to watch it on the non-DVR setbox in another room.  The quality is very low: every 10 seconds (almost exactly) the picture gets very choppy, stops and starts.
On the DVR itself, the replay is good.
Is this a known problem with the STB?

Have you attempted re-booting both STBs?

  • All fonts coming out very low quality

    Hey all,
I'm having a problem, and I think I may have inadvertantly changed a setting in Pohotoshop CS3.  What is happening is that when I'm dealing with images 1000px (width and height) or less, all of my fonts are coming out in very poor quality, almost square like.  I'm not sure what setting controls this, but it just started happening recently.  Here's a screenshot of a 900px wide image of some text, 300pix/in: http://imgur.com/TD864
I would greatly appreciate any help.

Check your anitaliasing, mine is set to sharp in thsi screenshot. You need to switch to the text tool to access anti-aliasing.

  • IMovie and iDVD help with low quality

I am working on a large project that consists of 480 still photos that will be set to music with motion, etc that is 1.3GB total. When I import them into iMovie the project quickly becomes 15GB+. I then exported it full quality to iDVD which compressed it to around 2.5GB. My issue is that the quality is bad...wavy type pictures, etc. Is this because I have too many pictures and the project is too big? What should my settings in iMovie be to get the best quality project. The photos are high quality shot with a digital SLR and look great by themselves so I know it's not the pictures themselves. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!!

There are a heap of threads on how to improve the quality of your photo's from iMovie to iDVD. Any reason you are using iMovie for a slideshow? Do you have video in the project as well? I say this because iMovie is essentially a video editing tool, rather than a slideshow application. I use either iPhoto, FotoMagico or iDVD direct to make my slideshows. ALL much better quality than from iMovie.
My first project was a still photo slideshow made in iMovie and I was really disappointed with the end product (pretty much as you described it). It was recommended to me to try a couple of things.
    1. Import your photo's with KB turned on (although this seemed to make my photos worse - it seems to work for some).
    2. DON'T EXPORT or SHARE your iMovie with iDVD. Rather, save it and close iMovie. Then open your iDVD project and your finder where you will find your project listed in the movie folder. Drag it's virtual icon and drop it onto your iDVD menu. I found this worked particularly well for me. If you DO export or share with iDVD make sure you don't allow it to re-render things (it asks permission). That also may make a difference.
    3. When you eventually go to burn your disc, save it as a disk image (the option just under the burn button in iDVD). Once it is saved to disk (this will take a while to render, so perhaps do it over night) then you can view it in your DVD player and if all is ok, burn it through Disk Utility or Toast at a speed of 1x or 2x.
Hope these ideas provide some help.

  • Very low quality after using OCR

    Hello,
I am using OCR in a couple of documents which have tables I want to export to an excel document. The issue is that the letters after using OCR, are hardly legible. Hence, the text is not well detected and I can´t reply it on the excel document.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi Hugo_16,
I would recommend you to use High quality scan settings while scanning the document and then try running OCR again on the same document.

  • Final Cut Pro exports very low quality video to DVD

I tried exporting a timeline to a DVD from Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3 today. Every clip in the timeline was 1080x1920, but the DVD export menu insisted (without offering an option to change settings) that Final Cut export at 720x480. The Blu-Ray menu offers 1080x1920 exporting, though. Is there any way to get the app to export to DVDs at 1080x1920?

Yes, you can create an AVCHD Disc which is basically Blu-ray quality on a cheapo standard DVD.
Select Share>Blu-ray and in the window that opens make sure the Output Device is your DVD burner, not the hard drive.
Note that you will only get about 35 minutes at the highest quality.
If your video is longer the data rate will be reduced but should still produce good quality hi-def up to an hour or so.
You must play the DVD in a Blu-ray player. It will not work in a normal DVD player.

  • Very low quality camera CY-STC1100

I'm testing the camera CY-STC1100 on TV UN40ES6500, both by Samsung. But the quality is the worst ever.
Signal quality always is lowest, see:
    More info:
TV Firmware = 1010.1, last for my region (Brazil).
Skype for TV version : 2.0
Internet connection: vdsl2 35/3Mbps GVT ISP.
Connection type: wired or wireless, tried both.
Skype tested on TV and a notebook on local network (same physical connection/router/location).
Any hint to get better quality? I contacted the Samsung support by phone and they said nothing useful, only fake information to get rid of me, "Skype has system issues today, test again tomorrow". Amateur support.
The camera is 720p only for marketing?!
    Thank you guys!

I am sorry to hear you are having problems with Skype on your Samsung TV.
That call quality indicator is actually an indicator of network strength and is not hardware dependent. It sounds like you can place a Skype call on another device from the same location (room)? Can you access other network applications in the Samsung Smart Hub (stream video, for example)?

  • [SOLVED] Images being rendered in abnormally low quality

    Hi guys,
I'm not entirely sure what the issue is since I don't usually play around with image {libraries, software, etc} on Arch, but I have noticed recently that images on Arch, regardless of WM/DE, have been rendered (drawn?) in very low quality.
    http://i.imgur.com/Qemaa.jpg
(Changed from image to URL, resized image didn't show what I wanted it to.)
For example, in this screenshot, you can see artifacts around the fonts and icons that normally shouldn't be seen. I took the same image with both scrot and xfce4-screenshooter, and both images look exactly the same. I'm not sure if there's something really obvious I'm missing or what, but I'd appreciate some sort of guidance.

I tried taking the images in PNG format and they still came up low quality.
EDIT: Nevermind, I didn't realize scrot had a quality switch. Disregard this entire thread, it's 2 AM and I'm tired!

  • Low quality when using Ken Burns effect

    Hi,
I tried to import hi-res photos from iPhoto 6 to iMovie HD 6, adding some zooming with Ken Burns. The resulting clips are very blurry, lots of artefacts - very low quality. Is anyone else having this problem? It happens on my iBook as well on my iMac. Or am I just expecting to much?
    Thanks for any advice, Patrick

    Hi Sue,
Have you ever tried Photo to iMovie? Apple even recommends it.
Yes, I know Photo to iMovie. But if I buy an integrated solution like iLife'06, it makes no sense to buy additional shareware programs to correct some flaws of it.
Isn't it possible to raise the quality of a Ken Burns effect, I would say in iLife '05 it was much better.
So I am looking forward to an update of iMovie HD 6...
    Kind regards,
    Patrick

  • Lightroom 4.1 low quality image in develop module

Hi all, i have a macbook pro with retina display, in my lightroom 4.1 the images in the library look normal but when i go to develop module the image is blurred and very low quality. In settings the rendering are high quality 2048 1:1
Any way to fix this? Also in my external monitor i notice this thing with minor loss.

This probably won't help you but the preview settings don't affect the Develop module. In Develop the image is rendered from the raw data.
Are you seeing this with raw files? JPEGs? Is it a huge camera file?
