IMovie HD Stops Working

Every time I am working on a project the program suddenly stops, if I don't constantly save my project I would loose everything I did.
Does any one has this problem? Can it be corrected?

Hi
Usually
• Corrupted iMovie pref file - trash it
• To low free space on start up hard disk - I never go under 25Gb free space
(other hard disks of no interest)
Try this list.
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
iMovie pref file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. *com.apple.iMovie.plist *
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iMovie.
• Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
• Screen must be set to Million-colors
• Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
iMovie updated ?
QuickTime updated ?
Mac OS version ?
• Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
• Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

I run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac.

  • My imovie application stop working with new OS

    Hi,
My imovie application stopped working.  I have reset the computer several times and it appears the application is damaged.  I can enter but I no longer see my existing projects and none of the commands or icons work.  The new project that I was working on is still visible but  frozen.   I just updated my Operating system.  First Leopard and then Mountain Lion.
Any advice on what can I do to be able to restore the application and keep my existing projects?
    Thanks,
    Adriana

    Hi Mitch,
You should have an update for iPhoto waiting in the App Store. If you don't, go to the App Store and type iPhoto in the search bar. It should display the app, and have "Update" in the place where the price normally is.
    Cheers,

  • Voiceover recording in iMovie has stopped working.

My voiceover narration in iMovie 11 has stopped worked. It worked initially and then stopped working. I have tried headseat mike and internal mike and checked the audio setting when using them in voiceover. When i record narration, the audio is registering in the voice meter, the red progress bar passes over the part of the iMovie where I am recording. When I do playback, no voice.
Like I said this worked the frist time I used it, but has not worked since. Any ideas?

"If there any other tools people use to record voiceovers while being able to listen to the original audio?"
You could export your audio to an AIFF file and then bring that into GarageBand to add your voice over tracks.
iLife '06 makes the process even easier. You can actually see your movie play inside GarageBand.
I wouldn't buy iLife '06 today though, there's good reason to belive that iLife '07 may be announced at MacWorld.

  • My iMovie has stopped working ):

A few days ago my iMovie just completely stopped working. I can't so much as launch it. When I try to I get the iMovie toolbar at the top but whenever I hover over it I get the spinning beachball of doom. I initially thought it was just taking a long time to load, but it's definitely not this. The application then proceeds to compltely crash and I have to force quit it. Sometimes I can't even right click to force quit on the dock because it is so unresponsive, so I have to cmd+alt+esc. When I do this it sometimes takes up to five minutes for the window to appear. It also sometimes crashes any other application open at the time. It has crashed Google Chrome and any webpage I am on stops working until I have closed iMovie. This came completely out of nowhere.
It's pretty awful because I use my MacBook every single day at work, and am in the middle of a big and important editing project for someone. I couldn't get an Apple Store appointment till next Monday and I have waited for 45 minutes and no one has appeared on the live chat.
Has anyone got any experience with this? What should I dooooooo?
    Thanks all for reading x

What OS version are you running?
    And which iMovie version?

  • Preview in iMovie suddenly stopped working

I was working on a project, and suddenly the preview window, on te right stopped working.
I can't edit the project anymore, can't view it, can't export it, ..
I tried a lot of thing, like reinstalling imovie, moving the files, rebooting, ...
    Nothing seems to work
    Help me out please
PS: previewing imported clips does work

Cool! I've been seeing a lot of messages on the iMovie Discussion Group with similar symptoms. And one of the newer contributors to the list (calbe) kept recommending doing this step, of moving the last project out of the folder. And to my surprise it worked consistently. So now I'm recommending it to anyone who has a crash, lockup or any kind of Force Quit that then leads to iMovie being completely unstable afterwards.
And if you have the time or interest, as a further preventative measure you can also try moving the iMovie Preference file out of the Library. This forces iMovie to create a new preferences file. The benefit would be that Preferences file is notorious for causing problems after a Force Quit sometimes. To find the preference file go to the Mac Desktop and choose the Go Menu > *Hold down the Option key (this reveals the Library folder), click on Library (it appears grayed out but you can click on it. Inside of the Library>Preferences>com.apple.iMovieApp.plist (drag that file to the trash or the desktop). Make sure you have quit iMovie before doing this step, after you move the preference .plist file, open iMovie and make sure all your Events/Projects are visible and you can skim them with photos, titles all showing up.
Deleting the iMovie preferences file is not a requirement but more a preventative measure to keep iMovie humming along.

  • Imovie '09 stops working on one(!) video

hi!i'm really hoping you can help me! my imovie '09 on my macbookpro is not working properly. i'm doing a quite long video, (7minutes) and i had already finished it, but not exported(safed) and when i open it now, the musicbackground which used to be green is purple and the music just stops on the middle of the movie. the red coursor(to select a clip, or to scroll throuh a clip which is already build into the movieproject) is not moving and the little screen on the right is not showing videos, it's just black. if i want to export the movie(itunes, idvd...) i can't select anything it' s only grey even if it works on other videos. and i can play all videos on imovie fullscreen exept this one. and the time of the imovieproject is not showing right it says 9minutes. that are all details i can give you, i'm hoping somebody can help me!!
Ps: i know that imovie splits movieprojects that are bigger than 2gb but how do i know and what can i do against it?

This is happennig to me too. The videos simply stop and go back to previous menu. Please help.

  • IMovie import stopped working on my account

I am using iMovie V 8.0.5 on a Mac Mini with Snow Leopard. After a few days of use, the "Import Movie" function started hanging (beach ball) when the form is displayed. Also, no files show in the folder area. This only happens in my account (Admin), so I suspect that it is a user problem and not an iMovie problem.
Did I hammer a file somewhere that iMovie needs to run properly?

First. Delete iMovie Pref file then repair permissions - Else read list

  • IMovie stopped working in export

I purchased an iMac last year. iMovie seemed to be fine in the past year, though I only used it for a few times. However, it stopped working last night when I exported it. After clicking "export", it showed "preparing project". Unfortunateky, just in 2 seconds, iMovie window disappeared and another window popped up asking me to click either "ignore, report or reopen" due to an error I could not figure out. I tried several times and it still failed!
I found similar questions were asked by many users online. However, it seemed that nothing worked. I contact tech support in Apple and was told that it would charge about $20 for service, though it was not guaranteed to fix the problem. Ridiculous!!
I really appreciate your kindness to help me in this issue.

Have you tried deleting iMovie's preference file?
Close iMovie. Go to your Home file (YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imovie8.plist
Drag this plist file to the Trash. Don't worry, iMovie will create a new fresh one when you relaunch it. (If you also have iMovie 6 on your drive, its plist file will also be there, but it will say only imovie.plist without a number. Be sure you trash the correct one).
Reopen iMovie and see if it works ok now.

What version of OS X and iMovie are you using?

  • IMovie stopped working please help!

the new version of iMovie i just downloaded two days ago has stopped working, it will not even open, how do i fix this??

Can you create a new user account on your Mac, and see if iMovie works properly from the new account?
If so, trashing preferences might work. See my post here.

  • The music i've put into an imovie project has stopped working. How do I get it back?

The music i've put into an imovie project has stopped working. How do I get it back?

As far as I am aware, I have always used the standard keyboard and texting apps that came with the phone.  There is no swype option on the keyboard any longer. The keyboard is just standard numbers and letters that have to be pressed individually. When I go to settings to try to change anything in swype, it looks as it would if swype were working - it shows all the settings for swype are correct - it just doesn't show up when the keyboard pops up for any apps or function on the phone.
I placed the phone in SafeMode and still not able to use swype.

  • Why would Lightroom video capabilities/iTunes import/Netflix streaming/Photoshop all stop working at once?

    Hi forum --
Several programs all stopped working at the same time and will only work (briefly) right after I've restarted my computer including:
    - iTunes audio cd importing
    - Lightroom video importing and playback
Netflix streaming (on both Safari and Chrome) won't work and Photoshop (CS4) won't open at all.
Videos work without a problem in: Quicktime, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, and Bridge CS4 and CS6.  YouTube also works without a problem.
Maybe the problems are conincidence, but this seems like it is posisbly a software problem with my computer, not my programs.
I have tried reinstalling Ligthroom and resetting the preferences files but they don't help.
The only things that I can think of that happened is that I:
    1. downloaded my own videos from my own YouTube acocunt after my external hard drive failed and maybe there was a virus?
    2. I deleted some programs with "Clean My Mac 2" and maybe it deleted some crucial file someplace?
I am running a 2009 13" MacBook Pro with a 2.53 Ghz processor and 4 GB RAM and Mountain Lion (everything is up to date).
    Thank you for any suggestions!

I had problems with streaming until I changed the WiFi channel that I was using.  The original one conflicted with my neighbor.  After that, MOST of my streaming problems vanished.  Occasionally, a movie would pause for more buffering and I eventually ran an ethernet cable from the Apple TV to my Apple Extreme (to eliminate the Wifi).  I have not had a single problem since then (except to repair the drywall after running the ethernet from one floor to another).  :-)

Whenever I click the grey menu bar (artists, genre, videos, playlists, match, etc) iTunes stops working and Windows has a pop up that says it's closing. I tried updating to 11.4... but then itunes says it is missing a file or something like that and will not open period so I have to use a system restore to get it back..I;ve been enduring this without editng playlists and etc for a few months now. Please help? Thank you for any input.

this is for the benefit of putting video effects on my iMovie projects, which I cannot import videos for my video app

  • Crop tool has stopped working

I have been scanning slides into iPhoto, then cropping them to fit into iMovie to make a slide show. After doing about ten of them the crop tool stopped working. It still saves any other editing that I do but will not save the crop.
    Any ideas? Please help.

    Hello, Country Mouse,
As a general help, close iPhoto and delete the iPhoto plist.
    Go to Users->Yourusername->Library->Preferences->com.apple.iPhoto.plist
Drag the com.apple.iPhoto.plist into the trash. iPhoto will create a new one when you launch it again. See if that fixes the crop tool.
