IMovie I Life 06

Where do I find the "reverse clip direction" control AND teh "change clip speend" control. They do not show up under Advanced (as the Help directs)

Welcome to the discussion!
Click on the "Editing" tab, then "Video FX". Look for "Fast/Slow/Reverse" in the list.
In earlier versions of iMovie, the command "Reverse Clip Direction" resided in the Advanced menu. If your Help still directs you there, it contains a mistake. Or perhaps your Help hasn't been updated to iMovie 6.
Here's an article discussing how to reset Help:

    Script: Stack Frame
    Language: Javascript
    Version: CS6
    Description:
    When doing product renderings, I often render out animations as image sequences, each frame consisting of several layers. Each layer is output as a separate file. For example:
    image_finalColor_0001.jpg
    image_finalColor_0002.jpg
    image_finalColor_0003.jpg
    image_Alpha_0001.jpg
    image_Alpha_0002.jpg
    image_Alpha_0003.jpg
    image_SurfID_0001.jpg
    image_SurfID_0002.jpg
    image_SurfID_0003.jpg
    etc.
    This script would 'stack' each frame in Bridge, and also create a separate layered PSD file for each, so that the result, in bridge, looks like this:
    image_finalColor_0001.jpg [stack]
    image_finalColor_0002.jpg [stack]
    image_finalColor_0003.jpg [stack]
    image_0001.psd
    image_0002.psd
    image_0003.psd
    Requirements:
    Two ways to start run the script:
    Right-click any file and select 'stack frame' from the drop-down to analyze a single frame
    Menubar > Stacks > 'stack frames' to analyze all frames in folder
    Beginning with the end of the filename, script loops backward through each character until it finds a number. It then continues back until it finds a non-number, and stops, storing the last number in the filename as the 'frame number'. Examples:
    file_0001.jpg => '0001'
    file_0001_backplate.jpg => '0001'
    file_02_backplate_0001.jpg => '0001'
    file_0001_backplate_02.jpg => '02'
    Script then searches other files in the folder using the same method, looking for other files with the same frame number. For example, when looking for frame 0001:
    file_0001_foreground.jpg => match
    file_foreground_0001.jpg => match
    file_02_foreground_0001.jpg => match
    file_0001_foreground_02.jpg => no match
    Script selects all files containing the same frame number, and assigns them to a 'stack' in Bridge.
    With the same files selected, script runs the Photoshop 'Load Files into Photoshop Layers' command
    Saves resulting layered file as PSD named with the common elements of the filenames (trimming non-alphanumeric chars):
    file_0001_background.jpg + file_0001_foreground.jpg = file_0001.psd
    file_background_0001.jpg + file_foreground_0001.jpg = file_0001.psd
    file_02_background_0001.jpg + file_02_foreground_0001.jpg = file_02_0001.jpg
    file_02_background_0001.jpg + file_foreground_0001.jpg = file_0001.jpg
    foobar_file_0002_0001.jpg + file_0001_foreground.jpg = file_0001.jpg
    Must exit gracefully on error and provide dialog hints where possible (e.g. 'found no matching frames' etc)
    Must ignore non-image file formats (to avoid errors in the Photoshop script)
    Resulting PSD layers must be in the same order for every frame where possible (so future Batch operations will work across all PSD files). Obviously this only applies if all layers are present for every frame.
    Must ROCK MAJORLY HARD!!

  • Video Camera Failure

    I have a Macbook that I have had for about three months. About three weeks ago the built in microphone quit working. Now the computer won't recognize the built in isite. Anyone had this problem? Suggestions?

    Check if there is any program using iSight resource. You can see it from dock, and see if any other icon beside finder and widget have black arrow at the bottom of it.
    iMovie, comic life, and IM program like yahoo that start automatically everytime you restart the computer might use that iSight.
    Also reset nv-ram and pmu (pmu also reset nv-ram) might resolve the problem
    Good Luck

  • Green Screen - Only Viewing Stupendous Demo Version yet bought Full Version

    We are completely new to Mac. Total Windows XP geeks but complete newbies to Mac.
    I purchased a Mac Mini because my kids were so impressed with an Apple Demo at the Apple Store of green screen and they are big into making movies. We viewed a kid showing how to green screen and load the demo from Stupendous Software and got that working. Then my kids said to purchase the full version for $25 and I did.
    We tried the install directions from Stupendous but for some reason the demo stuff still shoes up. Help.
    When we bought the Mac Mini we had to download IMovie HD6 because it did not come with the Imovie in Life 08 software that we got when we purchased the Mac Mini.
    Thanks. Mark

  • IMovie Life 08

    I recently upgraded to OSX Leopard and iMovie Life 08. I use a Sony Digital Handycam DCR-PC101 NTSC. In the past I have made dozens of movies in iMovie without any problems. Ever since I upgraded to Mac OS X (10.5.1) and iMovie Life 08 I have been unable to upload any movies from the camera. It starts out fine and after 5 minutes or so it stops and I get the message "The application iMovie quit unexpectedly". I have already tried to reload the Life 08 software but this doesn't make any difference. Any suggestions?

    How do I move the old movie projects that I created in iMovieHD into iMovie '08 so that I can have all my old movies and clips in iMovie '08?
    You can always try the project import option under the iMovie '08 File menu, copy the current iMovie HD timeline from the older project, or copy the individual iMovie HD "Media" folder clips (source files, transitions, titles, effects, etc.) manually.

  • Import Comic Life into iMovie

    My students would like to import their photos from Comic Life into iMovie? We've been playing for a couple of classes and checked the help menu. Can anyone help us?

    LOL, YOu are right Karsten. I have been looking at My Leopard box since 10:15 October 26th. LOL. This is the only thing I am a big fat freakin chicken. I have been using CS3 the trial getting the feel for that, as My Suite with PS7 is done. Pretty good is CS3. I have 19 more days on my trial. LOL. The day I see 10.5.1. I will install 10.5. LOL. I Hope its quick already. The issue is...Can I wait????
    It seems a lot of issues are working themselves out, with what was it one or 2 updates from Apple. Some odd ones too. Like that display profile business. Whats with that. LOL. I am really liking I Life 8. Especially because I can use IM6. I have been getting tons of updates from sites for apps I have that already updated for Leopard, even the little shareware ones which I have a ton of. I am almost done. I find it amazing that those little shareware apps have worked to be compatible, quicker than the bigger companies. Well good luck with the rest of your investigating, as we both continue lurking around discussions. I better not have one issue after taking this long wait and see stance, as I stated in another thread, LOL. Have a great day, Ileen

  • I life sound effects not showing in imovie 08

    whenever i'm in imovie 08 and i click on the ilife sound effects folder, then click on animals i don't have any sound clips to choose from. there are sound clips in there but they are all .caf files. does imovie not read .caf or is there a quick easy way to convert them to.mp3 files ?

    Mmmm strange . the sound files should be .aif, what happens if you simply change the file extension from .caf to .aif (I've not come across .caf before. They are located in library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/iLife Sound effects.

  • Have I Movie 7.1.4, (from Life 08) but can't install IMovie HD

    Wondering if anyone had this happen. Went to the apple page where I could download IMovie 6 to use instead of the 08 version (7.1). But now the computer is telling me that Life08 isn't installed... I have leopard and what I thought was ILife08. Can you have the new IMovie with out having ILife08? Is there something I missing?
    any help would be appreciated.

    Your equipment list at the bottom informs that you are using 10.4.11, which is Tiger. You say you have Leopard, which is 10.5.
    If you have opened iMovie 08 on your Mac, then you have iLife 08 and you should be able to get the free HD6 download.
    Sometimes closing the apps and restarting your computer will correct these errors, but I am no tech junky so can't give a more definitive answer.

  • Battery life and Heating up problems

    After updating to mavericks , it seems that my macbook pro is always heated and the battery life got shorter even if I'm not using any app... anyone could help me ?

    Hello Jeskar,
    It sounds like you are seeing a decrease in battery life after upgrading to Mavericks. I would start by resetting the computers SMC, and evaluating the issue for a bit to see how that worked;
    Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    You may also have to use the Activity monitor to see if you have any run away applications.
    OS X Mavericks: About the Battery Status Menu
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5873
    When one or more apps consume higher than average energy from the battery, the menu shows "Apps Using Significant Energy" with a corresponding list of those applications.
    Some apps may use significant energy depending on what they are doing. This is normal. For example, if you are compressing video in iMovie, or playing a graphics-intensive game, the app may use a higher amount of energy than other apps. If you are trying to conserve battery power, quit apps listed in the significant energy section.
    If you suspect that an app is appearing in the significant energy section because it is not functioning properly, try quitting and re-opening that app. If the symptom continues, open Activity Monitor from the Utilities folder to troubleshoot further. The Energy tab of Activity Monitor displays the Energy Impact of each open app based on a number of factors including CPU usage, network traffic, disk activity and more. The higher the number, the more impact an app has on battery power.
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • FCP footage into iMovie 6

    My colleague and I are working on a FCP 5 project (1080i/50) for a local artist. All goes well on this but last night, having little to do in my life, I thought I would give iMovie 6 HD a try and so imported some of the footage we captured in FCP into iMovie 6. The footage imported OK but it is slightly compressed with a black bar down the left hand side. Is this normal?
    I set iMovie to 25fps (PAL) before opening a new project and selected HDV 1080i from the options presented when creating a new project.
    The footage was shot in HDV mode on a Sony HVR-Z1E. Should I have recaptured the footage through iMovie?

    I'm just trying this for you right now..
    I'm importing into iMovie HD 6 some HDV (1080i/50) footage which I'd captured into FCP 5.1.
    Note that FCP captures differently from iMovie HD, not using Apple's Intermediate Codec, so this footage has to be transcoded into AIC when importing into iMovie HD. It's taken about six minutes to import a 1:39 minute clip of 318MB.
    The result is - as you say - a movie with a broad black bar, about one ninth of the movie's width, down the left edge.
    This suggests to me - I'm going out soon, so this has to be just a quick first appraisal - an aspect ratio oddity, to do with rectangular vs square pixels, see below.
    Nothing appears to have been trimmed off the left edge, so all the picture is there, but in FCP that 'widescreen' aspect shows within a 4:3 editing window, with grey bars at the top and bottom to frame it.
    An HDV clip imported directly from the camera into iMovie fills my editing window in near-enough proper 16:9 ratio (..255mm x 145mm..) and an identical clip imported into FCP HD 5.1 shows up as 120mm x 67mm, i.e: also 16:9. When the same clip is imported from FCP-capture into iMovie, then it appears as 220mm x 145mm ..i.e; wrong aspect ratio.
    If you look carefully at the same frozen frame in both iMHD and in FCP, you'll see that everything within the frame is slightly -w-i-d-e-r- in the FCP frame than in the imported-into-iMHD frame ..i.e; it's squeezed narrower in iMovie.
    This is because QuickTime, and any other computer display process or activity uses square pixels. Television, however, and programs associated with editing images for TV, uses rectangular pixels: short and fat in NTSC land, and tall and thin in PAL land. This is so that - in comparison to a computer-screen standard such as 640x480 for 4:3 traditionally shaped screens - a PAL TV picture, which has more scan lines, and is thus 'sharper' than an American NTSC TV, fits more data across the screen, whereas the lower-quality NTSC system, with "fatter" pixels which have less height, needs more data displayed down the screen to get to the same resolution as the equivalent square pixels.
    Maybe I haven't explained that too well, as I'm in a rush right now!
    But the result is - as we've both seen - that the picture in square pixels on the FCP computer screen is - when importing this into iMovie HD - understood to be meant to be "thin" PAL TV pixels, and so iMovie - or the Apple Intermediate Codec - converts that into television-intended "thin" pixels on the computer screen ..hence everything's slightly narrow, and there's a blank black spacer at the left.
    I haven't time at the moment to try exporting this out to a camera, or to some other device, to see if it gets "unsqueezed" during export, but I might try tonight.
    Maybe Matti Haveri might have something to say if he reads this, too.
    But nothing's lost; it's just displayed thinner.
    [..Maybe I could import myself into FCP and then into iMovie ..I could do with being a bit thinner, too..]
    "..Should I have recaptured the footage through iMovie?.." ..Yes. But it might have taken longer, as iMovie converts into the AIC "on-the-fly", thus slowing down imports on all but the fastest Macs.

  • Video from iPhone to iMovie on Mac and quality issues

    Task:  Wanting to take video from my iPhone 5 into iMovie HD Version 6.0.3 to do some editing, trimming, transitions, etc.  I have done this on many occasions but have NEVER been able to share/export the finished product with any kind of quality result.  I want to upload to youtube and it never looks very good.  Looks "ok" if just viewed as is, but if you click on full-screen it does not look good.
    I have never liked any of the other newer versions of iMovie - old dog new tricks problem.  I have versions 9.0,9 and 10.0.3 and maybe I need to use one of those to solve the problem.  If so would someone please tell me should I export as .mov or .mp4 and what exact settings to use.
    If I can get good quality using iMovie 6.0.3 then would someone please tell me should I export as .mov or .mp4 and what exact settings to use.
    It seems like this should be such a simple process but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make it so.  I see many other videos that I know have been taken on people's phones and edited and they look great - even when shown in full screen.
    All help is appreciated!

  • I've kept the old version od imovie (6.0.4) through three migrations and now have it on a mac 10.6.8. i prefer it to the new one, but it has recently begun to give me serious problems. is it becoming obsolete?

    i've always thought imovie 6.0.4 was the superior product. i've used it edit semi-profesional films. its easy and intuitive, and always gives you what you want, while looking profesional. i have final cut pro, which i use when i have more time or the project is of more importance, but i still love the ease and simplicity of the old imovie. i've migrated it over 4 computers and it has worked fine till about a week ago. it now takes up to 20 minutes to load, frequently drops out. leaves phantom and relic snipets of audio. is there any way i can fix this problem and keep my beloved imovie 6.0.4? can download it from a third party? are the issues because the .app is going obsolete or are there just new bugs on my computer? i've recently uninstalled all my adobe products and put them onto another computer, could that be it? help me obi won, you're my only hope!

    klaus 1,
    thanx for the reply. i'm on a 10.6.8 snow leopard.
    yes, it did arrive via migration, but had been working well for over 2 years, and two years before that on a 10.5, where it had migrated from a mac book g4 where i used it regularly. through all that time and migration, not a single problem
    i can't pinpoint the exact 'original' problem, because i'm currently working on two different editing jobs (one serious [a kickstarted campaign] the other, not so much, for my son's pre-school graduation, i was making the school a little video for their website). so during this time, i'm using a combo of; imovie, adobe premiere and final cut pro. and i've had so much pulsing through my computer (and external hard drives), literally hundreds of gigs of HD video, tons of tiff and jpeg files, and much mp4 and aif music files. i often had three or four major applications all open and running simultaneously, so who knows how this all started. but one day, i flipped open my mac, and just clicked on imovie, not a file mind you, but just the icon, and it took like 2 minutes to load (usually 5-10 seconds). i made sure all other apps and windows were closed and tried it again - now 3 minutes to load and it drops out mid edit. and it just kept getting worse.
    AND THEN, AFTER IWROTE ABOVE 'I  -  ME' MADE THINGS, MUCH, MUCH WORSE.
    i was aware that there is an old quicktime 7 that gets installed in a 10.6.8 to supplement the newer quicktime x and the various other programs, including imovie, that still use qt 7. i was a bit confused why there even is an icon for qt 7 in the utilities folder, since you never open it directly, it just works behind the scenes. but whatever.
    after imovie started acting up, i looked up to see what programs that imovie uses, thinking the problem might be there and found an article that said there was actually an even earlier version of quicktime, (qt 7.0.3 i think) that was specifically made for imovie, but there hadn't been enough major changes in qt to bother imovie, but (there is always a but) there were changes coming that would begin to affect imovie. since the article (i wish i could link it here, sorry) was a year old, i  thought maybe the damaging upgrade was already made. so i found this older version of quicktime (the 7.0.3 version) and tried to install it, thinking it would fix my issue, i'd finish the edit, then delete it. but when i tried to open it, it told me, a newer version of of qt was on my computer and i couldn't install it. so very impulsively and idiotically i uninstalled quicktime 7, thinking i would just reinstall it later. but that's when everything went wrong.
    SO I MUST STRESS THIS TO EVERYONE! NEVER NEVER NEVER UNINSTALL QUICKTIME.
    apparently quick time x is preinstalled into the 10.6.8, in such a way, that its interconnected with like 12 other programs, that will all begin to act erradictly after it is uninstalled. then those 12 programs will each affect 5 more and soon, your computer, then your hard-drive is blown. i tried reinstalling quicktime, but could not. i tried every conceivable way, but could not even find it in any folder. it was gone. and so was qt x.
    so when i uninstalled quicktime 7, it affected quick time x in such a way that it stopped working, then could not be found. then all h**l broke loose. every program began to run slowly and started dropping out. functionally, the computer became so slow, it was useless. even typing became slow. i still did not know about the 'never uninstall quick time rule' yet, so i looked for the problem else where.
    i opened up activity monitor, and there were no programs eating up cpu, nothing that suspicious. but when i switched activity monitor to show usage in a descending order, i saw kernel task was using between 500-700% cpu. my fans started running furiously and my battery life dropped in half. i would switch off the computer, start it with reset, things would go well for a half hour, then kernel would spike, the computer would get red hot and the fans would go as fast as propellers. since the kickstarter campaign i was working on was on deadline, i had to keep working. so i went out and bought a laptop stand that allows airflow under the computer and has its own fan to cool the computer, that worked for about a day. but since the fan on the stand ran on power from the usb of my computer, my battery life went from very good, to completely dead. nothing. accidentally unplug the cord for a millisecond second, and the computer turns off. when i restart, the time is set to the day and time i bought the computer, and would undo my internet, and i'd have to reset my whole connection.
    i spent twelve straight hours, through the night, using recovery programs, like pacifist, stellar phoenix, and others, but could not get quick time back. finally (like 4 hours ago) i called apple, and although i have no warranty or apple care, they took my call and we tried some things, which didn't work.
    i had already run disk utility and exhausted all other options. and i was told by apple that since my computer was preloaded (no discs) i could not, erase and reboot, which wasn't really an option anyway.
    so apple being the best run company in the country, sends me a new down loadable version of imovie, quick time 7 and quick time ten.
    it hasn't arrived yet, but how cool is that?
    i have to say though, i'm a bit worried about reinstalling by disc and have no real guarantee that everything will return to normal.
    not to mention my battery is dead and snow leopard gives you no way of getting to it. it has to be replaced at an official apple certified store.
    so lesson here, never, ever, never, uninstall quicktime. i hope no one else makes this mistake.
    thanx and good luck.
