IMovie, iDVD and iTunes authorization.

I've purchased several songs on iTunes and authorized them for use on my Mac. I can play the songs from my iTunes music library. However, if I try to use the songs in an iMovie or iDVD project, I'm continually prompted to authorize use, over and over... Consequently, I can't burn my iDVD project using the songs I purchased from iTunes. When I burn my DVD, I get all of the video and audio except the songs I purchased/authorized from iTunes. Any suggestions? l tried iTunes customer support...no help there. I'm trying to complete a DVD video project for someone this weekend. THANKS!!!

Thanks for the tips...really helped. I also found the following info from Kallie at iTunes support contact helpful.
Run Software Update and apply available updates, including Compatibility Update for QuickTime 7.4. Restart the computer after applying the updates. If that does not resolve the issue, follow normal troubleshooting for this symptom such as:
1) Check to see if the track plays in iTunes and QuickTime Player.
2) Check for non-Apple plugins in /Library/QuickTime/ and ~/Library/QuickTime/.
3) Try reimporting the track into your iMovie, iDVD or iPhoto project.
4) Check to see if the track works in a new project.
5) Check to see if the existing project works for a new user on the same computer.
Thanks so much Klaus1 for you CD tip...it really saved my _ _ _! Finished my video on schedule, YES!
Contiued Success! LK

  • IMovie, iDVD, and Garageband all unexpectedly quit

I just got a new Mac and Migrated my old Mac PowerBook running iLife 08 and Tiger. Everything migrated and iPhoto and iTunes work fine, but iMovie, iDVD, and Garageband all quit unexpectedly when trying to open them.

haha okay i never said ilife should come with it (don't worry guys i know better :P) i just simply did not expect my installation of leopard to delete four applications that had already been there including two that come with every mac computer without even buying ilife. but thank you Kieran Jarrett for your help i am now happily running leopard with all my apps back.

  • IDVD-Error-itunes authorization

I have an odd problem that I never had before. I made a slideshow of old slides on my parents' iMac. I made a quicktime file and started burning it onto dvds with iDVD.
I decided to put the file onto my laptop as well so I can burn twice as many DVD's (they are for gifts for family).
However, when I use put create an iDVD project on my laptop, I get this message from itunes saying I am not authorized to use this video. When I go into iTunes to authorize, the message is still there in iDVD.
It still lets me preview the DVD and it plays fine so I tried to burn it but it gives me an error. Why the heck does itunes think it claim my video that I made?
    Any suggestions?

I suspect the disc image proposal won't solve the iTunes re athorization issue. But if it does work, please let us know.
The way I work around iTunes authorization, is to first make a CD of that audio I wish to use and then import as an aiff into iMovie or iDvd (otherwise you may have the very same issue arise each time you attempt to play it on a different laptop (other than the one it was originally authored on).
    Good luck on this!

  • IMovie/iDVD and 8-core vs. 4-core

I'm close to purchasing a new Mac Pro and I'm having a tough time deciding if the 8-core is worth the extra money. I've read MacWorld's review and it's benchmark tests. I've also seen some other reviews (Geekbench or something like that.) What I'm unable to tell is how encoding would be effected in iMovie or iDVD. My main work is related to converting analog video to digital and then creating a movie in iMovie and burning through iDVD. So much of my time is spent waiting around for the assets to encode and so time is definitely money. I'm just not sure it's worth the extra $1500 given some of the tests.
Given that I'm not working with 3D or working with multiple tasks or apps (where it seems that the 8-core shines) is there any benefit here in getting the 8-core over the quad-core? Will the extra cores kick in at all just encoding video? If I'm reading things right I'm not sure it would. Which raises another question. What if I finished an iMovie project, shared it with iDVD, and then began another iMovie project at the same time? Would this take advantage of the 8 cores? Also, will Leopard make much of a difference?

In regards to an 8-core refurb for $3300, that is still a quad-core system.
I've been watching the refurbs pretty closely for a couple of months (waiting to get a new Mac Pro), and have never seen an 8-core on there yet (unless I missed it).
They do have two Mac Pro's that are 3 GHz on there, and they are two different prices. But, neither of them is an 8-core system.
The only obvious difference is that the more expensive one has two Superdrives instead of just one. But, they are both definitely quads.
I am pretty confident that an 8-core system would sell for much more as a refurb than a quad core.
Anyway, I only provide this for information purposes. I hope this helps.

  • IMovie - iDVD and a NTSC versus PAL question

I have some questions about creating iMovie for use in iDVD and about the various formats.  Here goes:
I have a large number of travel photos taken in various cities that I need to use to create a project in iMovie.  In addition, I have a couple of smallish video segments that go with each of these cities.  I want to be able to get to any section from the DVD menus.  The sections being defined as the either the videos or the photos for each individual city.  Also, I need to be able to create both NTSC and PAL formatted DVD's from this exercise.
Now, as I understand it, there's several ways I can approach this:
First, I can use iMovie to create discreet projects for each segment.  The individual city videos being one type.  The photo shows of the individual cities being another type.  Then export each of these via the media browser and import them individually into iDVD.  But that then begs the question of NTSC versus PAL.  Since I have to choose a project format in iMovie (NTSC or PAL), does that imply that I've got to have separate projects for each one of the cities NTSC or PAL versions?  Or can I just use the NTSC project and cut the DVD in either NTSC or PAL format based on the settings in iDVD?  If I use this route, what's the best export format to use for optimal appearance on the finished DVD?
Second, I can create one long project in iMovie.  Put chapter markers in it and export it to the media browser.  Then, import it into iDVD and use the chapter markers referenced from the various menu picks.  If I go this route, once again, how do I account for the NTSC versus PAL differences?  And again, what's the best export settings for optimal viewing?
I guess much of this question relates to the issue of having to specify a format in both iMovie and iDVD.  If I choose NTSC in iMovie, but use PAL in iDVD, other than the obvious format mismatch, what actually happens by doing this?  Or, turn it around.  Use PAL in iMovie and NTSC in iDVD.  Again, what's the ramifications of doing this?
Just trying to figure out the best way of going about this and what the tradeoffs are for each approach.  Any insight you can offer would be greatly appreciated.  Oh... and sorry to have been so long winded.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Tom

    Hi
Oh Dear. Is this an assigned task from an editing turor. Then He/She is mean.
    a. If You want a DVD - Then You should not use iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 as they can not export interlaced video to iDVD as it needs but discard every second line resulting in a less quality DVD. Use (for SlideShows and Movies)
    • iMovie up to HD6 (SlideShows or Movie) - or -
    • FinalCut any version (SlideShows or Movie) - or -
    • FotoMagico (if You make only a SlideShow - can not do movies)
If persisting with iMovie'08-11 - Then DO NOT use "Share to iDVD" from within any version of iMovie (not 3 - HD6 either) as they do a bad job. But in iM'08-11 "Share to Media Browser" and as Large. In iM HD6 or FCE/P Save as QuickTime .mov and import this into iDVD.
    b. NTSC and PAL - If DVD is to be sent to EU (PAL) - then most DVD-players also playback NTSC so conversion is not needed (mostly).
There are NO way to make a combo version PAL & NTSC - They do not exist.
If You make a PAL iMovie /FC project - then DO NOT let iDVD convert to NTSC (or other way either)
    • it can do so - BUT Result is severely BAD
I use JES_Deinterlacer to make the conversion and it's so much better. (free on internet)
But absolutly best result is by doing two versions in the movie-editor - one PAL and one NTSC version.
    c. Use High quality DVD brand - I only use Verbatim DVD-R
and set down burn speed to x4 - Less burn errors and plays on many more Players.
    Just to start with.
Take one Q at a time and we can fix this.
    Yours Bengt W

  • IDVD and ITUNES

How do I put my IDVD that I just made in my ITUNES

You don't. iTunes doesn't play DVDs.
You CAN put the movies you used in iDVD into iTunes, but not the iDVD menus.

  • Problems with iMovie '06 and iTunes, too!

I've got the exact same problem as the guy right below. I've imported a song into iMovie that I bought in the iTunes store. But when I try to run my footage, I get a message telling me the song is not authorized to play on my computer (even though it plays just fine when I click on it in iTunes). I'm given multiple chances to authorize the song by inputting my password, but it never convinces the gatekeeper to let my music work.
Actually, sometimes I am allowed to hear the music in my video, but it never makes it to DVD.
Help! I'm on a deadline with this project!
    Thanks so much,
    Steve

When you download songs off itunes the files are locked, protecting them from editting in garageband, ect. I would just burn the song onto a CD and reimport them into itunes.

  • IMovie HD and iTunes and Authorizing tunes when switching computers

    ARRRRGH!
I am on my 4th MacBook.
I have loads of iTunes, purchased at the Store.
I want to download a tune onto an iMovie I am making.
It tells me I need to authorize. I do this on iTunes. It tells me I am on my 4th of 5 computers. So I am OK?
BUT IT STILL STOPS ME USING THE SONG!
CAN ANYONE help and tell me what on earth is going on???
    Many thanks.

Hi jambobwana - The normal response to your problem is to burn the song onto a disc, and import it into iMovie from there.

  • Vista RC1 and itunes authorizations

Has anyone else upgraded to Vista RC1? I just did yesterday, and now whenever I try to play a song I bought on itunes, it asks me to authorize this computer. I enter in my password and it tells me that the computer has been authorized, but when I go to play the file it tells me I am not activated again. The cycle doesn't end.
    Any suggestions?

I have the exact same problem. All Apple Support will do is suggest I unistall and re-install iTunes. I have done so three times and even taken off all my music and it still won't work.
I am hoping some future build will resolve it. In the meantime, I am not using iTunes.

  • IPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and Garage Band gone.

After doing an erase/install of Leopard these apps are no longer found. Is there a way to install these from the Leopard install disk or do I have to re-install Tiger then do an upgrade to Leopard? I do not feel like spending another day re-installing software!!!!!!
    Thanks
    MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo | 2GB memory | 120GB | 8x SuperDrive | NVIDIA GeForce 8600M

Leopard doesn't include iLife. iLife is included with computers; install iLife off the install media that came with your computer.
You don't need to spend another day re-installing software. However, it would have been nice if you'd spent 5 minutes searching the forum... this question has been asked like 200 times. No joke.

  • How do iPhoto and iTunes libraries connect to iMovie?

I'm still having trouble with iMovie '08 being unable to "see" or show still photos or sounds from the iPhoto and iTune libraries. It does not seem to even know those libraries exist.
Can someone at least tell me how iMovie normally connects to those libraries? What file tells it where to look?

In iMovie 11, there is a Preferences file called com.Apple.iApps.plist. If you move this preferences file to the trash, it will reset the links to iTunes and iPhoto. I haven't had iMovie 08 for several years, but I assume there is a similar preferences file for iMovie 08.
In general, the steps would be...
    Close iMovie, iPhoto, and iTunes.
In the Finder, find this file and move it to the trash. Empty the Trash.
    Restart iTunes. Restart iPhoto.
    Restart iMovie.
It should be in the Home/Library/Preferences folder.  (Macintosh HD/<Your user name>/Library/Preferences/)

Would iDVD work with this external dvd burner?

That would depend on the brand of dvd drive they are using inside there enclosure.
In my experience Pioneer drives always work well.
One would ask why you want to get a small external drive. full size tray loading drives are faster more robust and are much more efficient.
It doesn't have to be a small drive. I picked that particular drive because it was the only drive I could find with Apple listed under supported OS.
I put together my own external drive. I used a pioneer 112D 18x DVD-RW cost £16. I got an icybox dvd enclosure for £20. This enclosure has usb2 and firewire.
It is recognised in the apple system profiler as 'apple shipped'. And works with idvd and itunes and diskburning.
It looks like that copy is only in the UK. Perhaps there is a US version?
Or maybe I just need to find one that is USB supported and it will work on my Macbook? I have a feeling some will work. I just wont be able to use the software for them.

  • Multiple Libraries using iMovie/iDVD

When you create multiple libraries in iTunes,
How does it work when selecting music
    when working in iMovie, iDVD?
Does the Music interface show the two libraries
    in these programs?

Does the Music interface show the two libraries
    in these programs?
Unfortunately not. They only show the last used or active library.
Note that iTunes 7 is a recent release and iMovie, iDVD and iPhoto probably don't know (yet) that iTunes can have more libraries.

  • IMovie/iDVD projects

I've made a handful of iMovie/iDVD projects for family members. Right now they are taking up space on my hard drive. While I doubt I will go back to them, I would like the ability to work with them again. Can I take one of the DVDs that I created and just reload the iMovie/iDVD and add thing/make edits at a later date?

.. another option is, to use a back-up software as Toast 7/8, which allows socalled 'spanning'...
choose Data, drag iM project into Toast.. it will ask you to insert DVDs.. and more DVDs.. as tilman stated, an iM project contains 13GB per hour project length plus the many hours you have imported...
you need Toast to re-import such a disk collection, to re-assemble the many files of an iM project...
.. it is mostly recommended to spend 100$ for some external, firewire connected harddrive (format to hfs BEFORE use...) ... then, it's simply drag'n drop ...
