IMovie into iDvd - please assist :)

I've successfully gotten thru a couple of projects.....But please let me know if my sequence of understanding is correct -- -  followed by a couple of questions....
-I use iMovie to import video/photos to build my project
-when project is complete, I use Share/iDVD to get it over to iDVD for burning
-this step both prepares the project, then brings the movie into iDVD
I find this to be a confusing step when iDVD opens - because on my last project, it opened to the THEMES page, which I put as I wished,  , but it didn't               bring in the movie - I had to go back to iMovie, and do Share/iDVD again - -  then, when iDVD opened, all was there....and I could proceed to BURN
I always like to BURN first, watch the project on TV, then decide what needs final editing........Somehow, I always see the minor, final edits needed better on the big screen rather than the computer.......
SO.....at this point, my questions are:
1) when i had to do Share/iDVD a second time, did that create duplicate storage?
2) now that I have some minor final editing, , can I do that in iDVD (if so, how?) - then re-burn...... OR do i have to go back to iMovie, edit, then start the process all over again?  and if i do have to go back to iMovie, does it AGAIN duplicate storage of the project - or does it re-write over the original?
3)what's the best way to delete an old project - to have the best cleanup and gain that space back?
Of course, I know that video projects take up a lot of disc space, , ,but this project was a 20 minute project, mostly stills, , and i noticed when I started the project, I had ~100GB of free space, , now I'm at 89GB free space.....
THANKS>>>>>>>

When you Share to iDVD it creates the movie in a codec that takes a lot of space, but it is a temporary file and goes away when you exit DVD.
As an alternative, I would recommend that you Share/To Media Browser in Large size.
Then open iDVD. In iDVD you will see the Media Browser at the bottom right of the Window. Drag the movie into the iDVD project from the Media Browser.
This has several advantages.
1) Many people report better quality
2) you can put more than one movie on a DVD, as many as your DVD will hold.
3) it is not a temporary file, so it is available next time you open iDVD.
If you edit your movie, you need to share it again to media browser. If you edit your DVD project (for example the themes or the DVD menus) you do not need to start over with iMovie.

Rotary encoder usually output TTL-like signals. In case it's a sine wave (as it seems to with your own) you could use a simple Schmitt trigger circuit to create a TTL signal from it. Use the PFI0 counter to count those TTL pulses…

  • Can't get my iMovie into iDVD 4.0.1

I am having great difficulties getting my iMovie into iDVD. (Have made many dvds in the past from iMovie and never had a problem so this is new.) I have tried every way to do it (when previously had no problem just clicking on "Create DVD" pane). The movie won't show up on iDVD when I do this now. Either just "My Great DVD" comes up or a previous iDVD project. I have tried via Share/iDVD; I have tried to import from iDVD (get an "unsupported file type - invalid video" message). Any ideas? Thanks!

The movie that's in the iDVD folder (of the Shared Movies folder) contains chapter information. If you imported that movie to iDVD, iDVD should have delivered chapters.
Make sure your iDVD preferences are set to accept chapters.
If nothing works, this failure of iMovie 5 to export to iDVD suggests some kind of underlying problem. I suspect something is corrupt in the video or audio content.
Try importing that made-for-iDVD movie I mentioned to a NEW iMovie 5 project. (Drag it to the Timeline of the project.) That should deliver "cleaner" video/audio. Add your chapters to THAT project, send it to iDVD. Everything might start working as it should.

  • Why can't I import old imovies into idvd?

Why can't I import old imovies into idvd?

I have 68 GB free and the movie is a small one. The iDVD file is on my hard drive and in the dock.
Today I found a work around for this problem.  While I cannot open the original movie, I can access the clips in the media folder.  I put the clips together and made a new movie.   And I can import this to iDVD by going to "share" in the menu and selecting iDVD.

  • Quick Question (re:exporting from iMovie into iDVD)

    Hello everyone!
I just have a quick question for you all... (I want to see if this is normal - I'm on a deadline and this is kind of freaking me out)
So, we have a 20 minute or so video in iDVD. It plays fine, etc etc. The goal is to burn it to a DVD.
I used the "Export -> to iDVD" function in iMovie, which launched iDVD.
But here is the weird thing: nothing comes up in iDVD. It doesn't make a new file, doesn't give me anything... it is just open, waiting for me to create a new project to work with.
YET, if I look in the Activity Monitor, I do see that EncoderServer (using 123% CPU) and ThumbnailServer (both iDVD processes) are running.... but shouldn't iDVD have told me it is working or that it is dealing with data?
This is very un-"apple". I totally would have expected a progress bar of some sort in iDVD telling me it is working or something.... or is something wrong and I should try to export it in a different way?
(I guess the underlying question is: when you export from iMovie to iDVD, does iDVD normally give you any 'heads-up' that it is working? how long does it normally take to open the project in iDVD?)

    Hi Matt!
when you export from iMovie to iDVD, does iDVD normally give you any 'heads-up' that it is working? how long does it normally take to open the project in iDVD?)
    Yes, and it's instant.
What you should see is iDVD opening and asking you to create a new project, It will suggest naming it the same as the iMovie project.
There are reports that exporting from Imovie to iDVD can produce problems. What I do is save the iMovie project and close iMovie. Open iDVD, create the new DVD project, then go the File menu in iDVD, scroll down to Import, and in the side menu select Video. This open your Movie Folder, wherein resides your iMovie project. Select it and it imports into iDVD in a flash.
Remember: iMovie projects go in the Movies Folder, iDVD projects go in the Documents folder. Change that, and they get very confused and unhappy.

  • "Drag" iMovie into iDVD

Not being a Mac Expert, Ken Tidwell strongly suggests NOT using the 'create iDVD Project' button in iMovie 5 but:
If you share/export/save your movie to a folder on your harddrive instead, then use the Finder to drag into an iDVD project (or the add asset menus, etc.), QT will handle the rendering, providing a slightly more efficient level of encoding and better final results.
Quick lesson needed on what he means by dragging the iMovie into an iDVD project. OK, I have my iMovie in a folder on my internal drive. Which 'file' do I drag and deposit where? Do I open iDVD? I guess I'll need a little Finder 101. Thanks.

    Chuck,
I've had no troubles using the iDVD button in iMovie HD.
    Dragging:
Open the folder that holds your iMovie HD project. Just drag the project into the Menu in iDVD. That should work. Not to a drop zone.
Prior to iMovie HD, you could export (Share) from iMovie and retain the chapter markers, but this is the only way to retain them other than "sending" to iDVD.

  • Audio drops when movie exported from iMovie into iDVD

    Hi there,
I am a problem which I can't seem to fix.
I have created a 7 minute long slideshow in imovie with MP3 files from iTtunes embedded. The video and audio are fine when exported as a MOV file (and within iMovie itself). But when exported into iDVD for burning, the audio drops out completely after 3 and a half minutes.
I've tried updating iMovie, iDVD etc., deleting encoded assets as it says to do here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24043?viewlocale=en_US
    to no avail.
Does anyone have any tips? My friend's wedding is on Saturday!
    Thanks so much.

  • Several imovies into idvd

I have three iMovie files I have created (two are 3 minutes and the other one is 10 minutes). I would like to put all three on one DVD and play them at three seperate times. The only way I have managed to accomplish that was to export the imovie file (creating a QT file) and then importing them into iDVD. However, the quality isn't very good (and I exported them at high quality).
    Any suggestions.
    THANKS!

Just drop the iMovie project files (or rather "packages") into the iDVD window. A new button will be added for each movie.

  • Importing imovies into iDVD

I created a bunch of short imovies. I am trying to pull them into iDdvd to create 6 differenet menues. For some reason, iDvd will only pick up a few of them, not all. The movies were all created on the same tape, just edited onto different imovie files. If anyone has any ideas, please share!

If thats the case, make sure you exported them as quicktime files and if they don't already have a ".mov" extension, add one.
iDVD should "see" imovie projects without exporting them.....what are the filenames (project names) of the "bad" imovie proejcts?

  • Placing clips made in iMovie into iDVD dropzones

I am trying to move clip segments I make in iMovie to the drop zones in iDVD.
I can make smaller clip segments from the clips in iMovie using the "split video at playhead" feature. I then place those new segments in the clip section on the right in iMovie.
But when I move those new segments to a drop zone in iDVD the entire original clip shows up.
How can I get only the new, smaller segment into the drop zone?
    Thanks---------cam

    OK
May be I was to shallow in answering. I meant making from original material
the new teasers - with as little extra captured material as possibly.
But after some thinking I probably would try another way:
    • In the original movie. USE the in resp. out-points (the small two triangles)
under the line in Canvas/Viewer under the play-head triangle (far left end).
    • Select the desired part
    • Export out as QuickTime.mov (full quality), selected part ONLY and Selfcontaining.
Now close iMovie and drop this new movie into the drop-zone in iDVD.
This should be a working solution.
Sorry for not figured this out from the start.

  • IMovie to iDVD PLEASE HELP!

My first iMovie Project. It is a slideshow with about 800 photos and music. I am trying to get it onto a DVD (Through IDVD). I completed the project in iMovie, I hit share and it says it is formatting 40 minutes. The first time I did it it said there was too much content and that I had to change the encoding. I found encoding and changed it to high. I hit share again and again it was processing the format 40 minutes. At the end of the 40 minutes the processing the iDVD box is there but you cant click on it you get a doink sound and you can not click out of it either. I'm totally lost. I have to get this thing on DVD today. Please Help…..Thanks in advance.
    Charlie

    Hi
    Three important steps
    • Do not use "Share to iDVD" within iMovie (any version) - BUT use - Share to Media Browser and as Large (not HD or other) - and in iDVD import from it's Media Browser.
    • In iDVD - Rather use Pro Quality encoding - as High is lowest quality here - takes time but well worth it.
    iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (vers 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1)
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
Professional Quality (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST
Best Performances (movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    About double on DL DVDs.
    • Before burning - Do a Save as a DiskImage and test this to see that all's OK
(Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-up hard disk - to let iDVD and Mac OS run as intended)
(I set down burn speed to x4 - better DVD result - less burn errors)

  • Can't get iMovie into iDVD

I have made a movie using iMovie. It has photo's from iPhoto, music from my iTunes and video from a video camera. It is a complete home movie about 22 mins long. It includes transitions between photos for the slide show, transitions between film clips, title pages, back round music and, music tagged to specific clips. I can't get it to go to iDVD. When I select Share>iDVD all I get is movie clips. No music, no photos, no transitions. It plays perfectly in iMovie. How do I get this into a DVD???

Perhaps you can also answer a possibly related question. I have created a video similar to the one described above in iMovie. I didn't have any problem importing to iDVD, but when I burned it to a DVD the stills that used the Ken Burns effect came out terrible. They were fine when I played the iMovie version.
I have done this twice before without this problem. Looking at the Project Info on the three different projects, all fields are the same except the under Asset. On the two good DVD projects it reads "large.m4v", but the new video reads "movie".
Do you have any idea what I might have done differently or how I can correct this issue? Thanks.

  • Can't put iMovie into iDVD

Using iMac G5, iMovie HD and iDVD 5.0.1.
I'm trying to put four iMovies onto my iDVD menu screen. Three move over just fine, via the Customize screen and the Movies folder.
One iMovie does not appear in the Movies folder in the Customize screen, although it is actually in the Movies folder on the hard drive.
When I try to File > Import it, nothing happens.
When I try to drag the iMovie from the hard drive to the menu screen, I get a message that says Your last action was not supported by iDVD.
There must be something different about this iMovie file.
It has a sound track from iTunes that I put in twice - back to back. I tried deleting one track. Still no luck.
I tried saving it again under a different name. No luck.
Help! I'm so close to finishing this project! Thank you.

I solved the problem! I recreated the entire bad iMovie and saved it under another name and this one works. Hallelujah!

  • Sharing a file from iMovie to iDVD

I've created a movie in iMovie. I click "share" and "iDVD." it takes a few minutes and creates the movie and finally iDVD opens. As soon as it opens I get a "ding" and a window comes up saying "missing Files"...the rollowing files could not be found: /private/var/folders/43/43bTcdKwELG7cKshNoSAr+++TI/-Tmp The type of file says "picture." i have 2 options..."cancel" or "find file." I click find file, it opens up a window to look for it and I obviulsy have no clue where it is and running searches on the computer can't find it either. I'm going nuts now.
    I have a 2.16GHz Inter Core 2 Duo with 1.5GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I don't know a lot about computer so if you're got any pointers, please pretend your helping your mother. or grandmother. lol. I'm 35 and use computers a lot but not good no the back-end of things. That what she said. save it. help a brother out here, would 'ya?

    I know, it's odd.
    Or I'm incredibly stupid, which...
I imported my iMovie into iDVD with chapters marked. When I went to burn the dvd after selecting my theme, a warning popped up that said something like, "There are problems that were mentioned if you continue it won't work". When I clicked on the map, there was a theme file that I had clicked on inadvertently while working with the actually theme I had chosen, that somehow ended up connected to my chapters. In the map, it went from My opening theme, then branched out, one to the full film and the other branch went to this errant theme-file thing, and from the errant theme file thing was the branch that connected all my chapters. If I try to delete this theme (the 'my trip to Venice' one) it takes all my chapters with it (they too are deleted) because of the connected branch.
I will most happily except stupidity if this 'thorn' could be removed from my iDVD.
    Thanks so much!!!

  • Putting more than 1 movie into iDVD

This may seem a stupid question but I have made one movie with English subtitles in it for my company, what I would like to do now is copy the original iMovie and insert say German and French subtitles so I would end up with maybe 3 or 4 iMovies (each have 4 chapters), so the question is, could I bring those individual iMovies into iDVD and make one multi-lingual DVD where the end user can click on his/her langauge?
The movies are about 12 minutes long so should fit on one DVD OK.
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Yes yes yes yes.
This is what I believe iDVD does best.
Launch iDVD and use optimize to select a theme, I prefer the simple ones like but choice is personal (chacun a son gout or whatever they say in France!!!!)
You can then use import to put each of your movies on the screen and you can edit the titles so that the main header could be the project and each button could specify a language.
I don't think you will find this difficult.
    Good luck.
