IMovie isight camera is mirrored or flipped

well when i record a video with imovie '09 the camera is mirrored or backwards something like that and i dont like cause when i move the left hand in the camera moves the right hand thats an example thit you know a solution to quit the mirrored or the backwards please..?

(0) If you have not installed iGlasses or some other third party software to flip your iSight image, you are likely seeing an optical illusion.
iMovie, like camcorders and other video editing software, actually does NOT reverse the camera image. However, many other apps do. We are so accustomed to seeing ourselves in the mirror that it looks strange when it it NOT reversed.
You can test this by holding something with text on it in front of your iSight. I think you will be able to read the text in iMovie's capture window.
However, when you try the same test with some other apps, like iChat or Photo Booth, you will see that the text is reversed. These are the apps that are actually "reversing" your iSight's image.
Unless you have otherwise reversed your iSight's image using some add-on software, using iMovie is merely a matter of getting accustomed to it. You surely would not want iMovie to show everything, including text, backward merely so it does not look unusual while you are using the camera.
If you want expanded info, keep reading.
Many, but not all, software applications show mirror-image iSight previews. However, different apps work differently.
(1) iChat's picture-in-picture and Snapshot is "mirrored" by design.
However, the view that your chat friends' see will be left-to-right normal. Only the iChat video snapshots you make and your video preview are mirror-image.
(2) You can change individual snapshots made with either iChat or Photo Booth by opening the file with your Preview application and using the Preview > Tools > Flip Horizontal menu command.
Full-featured image editing software such as PhotoShop or PhotoShop Elements can also flip images that have already been saved.
(3) You can change future Photo Booth snapshots with the Photo Booth > Edit > Auto Flip New Photos menu choice.

(4) iMovie is different. Its preview window shows images right-way-around, as is the customary view for movie cameras.
(5) To flip saved video recordings, QuickTime Pro can do it easily. Use QT Pro's "Visual Settings" controls in the "Video Track" section of its "Movie Properties" menu command to flip, rotate, resize, and edit other properties of an already-recorded video.
If you do not have QT Pro but do have iMovie 6 HD, you can use iMovie 6 HD. Import the saved Photo Booth or iChat 4 video clip into iMovie and use iMovie's "Mirror" effect in Editing >Video FX to flip it.
(6) If you really want to change your iSight's image, you can add iGlasses 2 software.
If you frequently record video other than you sitting at your MacBook's keyboard with iSight and iMovie, you might be interested in the huckleberry device.
(7) If you are into no-cost, imperfect, and unsophisticated work-arounds, one kludged alternative would be to position a mirror as best you can so you are making video of your image in the mirror.

It worked with Leopard, and I don't recall having to use the above mentioned support page.

Contact Apple. I believe you have a hardware issue there if it's not showing up in your System profiler.

IMovie 6.0.3 does not recognize built in iSight Camera on new iMac

New iMac, Intel, OS 10.5.4, QT 7.5.
Built in Camera works with Photo Booth, the new iMovie 7.1.3 and iChat.
iMovie HD 6.0.3 or 6.0.4 does not recognize the camera. Opening a new project results in a No Camera Connected error. I have tried selecting various options in the video format drop down when creating a new project. I have repaired permissions, tried it under various users, removed the imovie plist, reinstalled imovie (both 6.0.3 and 6.0.4) without success. All 10 of the new computers are exhibiting this problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

That is not an option that I can select on the imac's. On my iBook under 10.5.4 with iMovie HD 6.0.3 or 6.0.4 I can click on the triangle next to the camera icon and select the built in iSight camera. On the new iMacs that does not work. The built in iSight is not listed as an option.

Can't use LINE IN audio with iSight Camera on iMovie 08

I want to record a video, using the internal iSight camera of my iMac, but I want to use the "line in" audio instead of the internal microphone of my iMac. I have tried for hours, and done the obvious things (selecting "line in" under System Preferences). I can record audio perfectly using Sound Studio or other programs, so it's not like the Mac isn't getting the audio. The problem is convincing iMovie to accept the audio of the Line In rather than the internal microphone of the iSight camera.

I've had the same problem, and it seems that this is simply not possible in iMovie... Disappointed!
Instead, having set 'line in' as input under System Preferences, fire up Quicktime Player and choose New Movie Recording under the File menu.
The movie will be recorded using system sound input, i.e. line in. It can then be opened / imported in iMovie for editing et c.
This works for me with the built in iSight on an intel Penryn Macbook Pro.

IMovie 8.0.6 doesn't recognize my iSight camera.

I have a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.9.5;
iMovie 8.0.6 doesn't recognize my iSight camera. The iSight camera works on Skype, Photo Booth and FaceTime. I hadn't used iMovie in almost a year, however, the last time it recognized the iSight camera without a problem.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

The article linked below details a potential solution that may help get iMovie to recognize your iSight camera.
In iMovie 7.1.2 or later, you may not be able to use your built-in iSight camera to capture footage in iMovie. iMovie may not recognize the camera. This may occur even if you are able to activate the camera in other applications, such as iChat.

Using the latest version of iMovie for Mavericks, can we record directly from iSight camera, or the software only allows videos imported from HD Cameras and PhotoBooth?

If you have access to an old tape-based mini-DV camcorder with Firewire connection capability, you can use it. For example, my old Sony DCR-TRV17 and DCR-TRV70 camcorders work great with iMovie, both for import and, when connected via Firewire cable, for recording directly into iMovie. Both give better resolution than my old external Firewire iSights, and the camcorders offer the possibility of manual focus and zoom controls when needed.
As an alternative to recording directly into iMovie, record video and save movie files using QuickTimeX and a camera built into your Apple display or Mac, a DV camera connected via FireWire, and some USB webcams. Then Import the movie files into iMovie for editing.

My external iSights (I have two) are great webcams, but they are getting old as consumer electronics go. Both of mine still work as well as they did when they were new. However, some previously owned or even NOS (new, old stock) iSights may have been damaged by rough treatment or improper storage.
An honest seller may offer you return or exchange privileges. If not, and if you don't want to spend the money to have your external iSight serviced, consider a new, Mac-compatible USB cam instead.
A new cam will include a current manufacturer's warranty, and a USB cam is not subject to the possible conflicts that can cause difficulties with the old Firewire-connected iSights.

When your Mac recognizes more than one connected compatible camera, the others will also show in your a drop down window that shows the built-in iSight camera.
In fact the best alternative I have found for recording directly into iMovie is to use the built-in iSight camera in my MacBook Pros and my Apple LED Display. The resolution of any of these built-ins is better than the 640x480 of the old external Firewire iSights. The built-ins are also higher resolution than my old Sony camcorders.
As for your "extra hassle" comments, once you try using QuickTimeX and importing into iMovie, I doubt that you will find it a problem unless recording video is your primary use of your Mac. It is very easy to do, and you can use the QuickTime file as a good backup for your original source material that is easy to offload to a different disk for safekeeping.

External iSight camera's compatibility with OS 10.5.8 / iMovie 09

I'm new here and joined because I couldn't find the answers to my questions anywhere on the net.
I just upgraded my OS to 10.5.8 and then installed iLife 09, only to discover that my USB iMage webcam won't capture video in iMovie 09. So I've been researching a replacement, only to get totally overwhelmed by the options. I don't really need a more expensive digital camcorder . . . just a good quality webcam for vcasting.
I found an "A" model external iSight camera still new in box from an Amazon seller but am hesitant to push the BUY button for fear it won't do what I want or isn't compatible in some way with either the new OS or iMovie 09.
I surely would appreciate some input for you all about this iSight camera option and whether it's the best choice.

(1) Although iMovie Help says you should use a firewire webcam, as shown here, your USB iMage webcam should be compatible with 10.5.8 and iMovie '09:

Restart your Mac with your webcam connected and check iMovie function again. If you don't already know, this tutorial will show you how to record from a built-in USB iSight:

To use your USB iMage webcam, the only thing you need to do differently from what is shown in this tutorial is to *be sure your webcam is selected* (instead of iSight) in the "Camera:" choices bar in the recording preview window.

Using External iSight camera instead of built-in with iMovie

I have a MacBook Pro with built in iSight as well as an external iSight camera. I want to shoot some instructional knitting videos with the external camera, holding it over the shoulder of the knitting instructor while she discusses what she is doing. When I go to iMovie, I only see the option of using my built-in iSight. How can I work around this and use the external camera? Thanks for your help with this!

Your external iSight must be connected and turned on before it can work with iMovie.

Isight camera makes noise when recording in imovie

I have just purchased a white Macbook, 2.16GHz. I'm running OSX 10.4.10 and all of my firmware is up-to-date. When I make a recording with the isight camera and the built in mic in Imovie HD, there is a high-pitched nois that can be heard when playing the video back. It is almost like a very fast highl-pitched beeping. I have tried recording with the "Use ambient noise reduction" option under the sound input system preferences turned on and off; it makes no difference. Does / has anyone else had this problem? Can it be fixed?

I have seen posts from three or four users about this problem on iNtel Macs. You should try the suggestions offered in the other thread where you posted about this:

You do not mention what version of iMovie you are using, so I will assume it is the same as mine, iMovie '11, version 9.0.8
When you launch iMovie you should see, just above the Event Library, a camera icon. Click that.
Once you click it you will see a new window labeled "Import From: Built-in iSight." In the bottom right corner there will be a button labeled "Capture." Use that when you are ready to capture your video.

Magic iMovie fails to recognize isight camera

For some reason whenever I try to make a movie using my isight on iMovie HD, it won't recognize my camera. Here is what I do:
1) after opening iMovie HD, I go to file.
2) select 'Make a Magic iMovie'
3) click create
It displays a window saying that it is 'looking for DV camera' for a while and then informs me that it could not find anything. While it does this, it shows the live feed from the isight camera in the background. I suspect that I just need to tell it that I want to get the footage from the isight, but I don't know how. Someone help please?

I don't believe that "Magic Movie" makes a movie for you live. Instead it takes pre-recorded content off a tape and makes it into a video.
So, if you want to make a movie with your iSight, first record all your video into iMovie.

IMovie 4 won't recognize isight camera

I have a MacBook Pro, bought it used a few months ago. I'm just now getting around to using the isight camera with iMovie. But iMovie does not recognize the iSight camera. I am able to use photobooth and iChat with the camera, so I don't think the problem is iSight. I am using Mac OSX 10.5.8
The iMovie version is iMovie 4, which surprises me since this is a relatively new MBP. But whatever, it should work. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Perhaps understanding a few facts will reduce your confusion.
The Macs with the built-in camera are a fairly recent development. In fact, these Macs were introduced at (approximately) the same time Apple introduced iLife '06, which includes the iMovie version compatible with built-in iSight.

iMovie is part of iLife, which is sold separately:

The fact that iMovie and other iLife apps are bundled with current Macs is a bonus for the customer.
iLife was not bundled with some older Macs, but owners of older Macs that meet iLife system requirements can add the versions they need. Note that many requirements, not only camera compatibility, differ for different iLife versions.
If you consider adding the current iLife, check your MacBook Pro's specifications against iLife '09's system requirements:

The software that came with the Mac you bought did work with the built-in camera.
It is important to consider system requirements for any software you add to your computer. As regards older software versions like iMovie 4 and built-in iSight, I think it impossible that any software could be made to be compatible with hardware that has not yet been developed as of the software release date.
Based on this information, I hope that this lack of compatibility no longer seems as "crazy" to you as it initially did.
Here's another question: I bought this used, and migrated my old data on to it. Now, did it transfer the "old" version of iMovie from my old computer (iBook) when it transferred the data?
The answer will depend on how you "migrated." If you migrated your files manually, only those things you personally moved will be transferred.
If you used Migration Assistant, the answer is likely yes. This article may be of interest:

Is it possible this newer computer still has a newer version of iMovie hidden somewhere in its bones?
This answer, too, depends on what you did. If you erased the used disk before you began using it, a newer version of iMovie will only be there if you reinstalled it or "restored" your MBP using the disks that originally came with it.
If you did not erase, all iMovie versions that currently reside on your MBP should be in your Mac's "Applications" folder unless someone has moved them.
With Leopard (OS X 10.5) being comprised of hundreds of thousands of files, finding individual files manually is unlikely. At this time, your best choice is to look at the disks that came with your MBP. If you got an iLife DVD, you can install the version that came with your MBP now.

IMovie 9.0.2 - iSight camera captures video but no audio?

I tried to add a video of myself by ticking the "camera" button and using the iSight camera.
The video is fine but there is no audio.
I have the internal mike selected in System Preferences and everything works OK if I use PhotoBooth to record.
But when I record from iMovie I get no audio.
Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

After a search I found a similar problem from 2 years ago but with no solution.
I then decided to trash the preferences and found 2 files which I trashed.
On restarting iMovie I was able to record audio from the iMac mike.
Only the second, larger file was replaced so I think the other may have been a remnant from iMovie 6.
Whether it was the presence of 2 .plists that caused the problem I do not know?
It may just have been a corrupt .plist.
