IMovie Jingles (Again)

Hello,
I'm a recent convert to iLife, and really Macs period, and am just loving it. I have a question about iMovie jingles. I have searched the forums and noticed several similar questions, but not quite the same.
I work for a not-for-profit organization. I have cut a couple of videos in iMovie that I would like to post publicly. They do, however, use the included iMovie jingles as background music. I have seen a lot of discussion around the fact that these are royalty-free, and excerpts of the terms of use have been posted, but I'm far from a lawyer and most of it goes over my head. At the end of the day, would it be OK to post these online? Obviously these are free and not used in a commercial offering, BUT they are for a not-for-profit as opposed to just personal use. Any thoughts?
Thank in advance,
-NSL

Hi AppleMan1958, pls let me  know if it's ok to use imovie ('08/'09) jingles and sound effects on videos that I make for youtube and blip.tv. These videos are monetised.  It this legal? Will YouTube remove my videos for copyright infringement?
Thanks in advance!

  • GoDigital claims iMovie jingles are their interllectual propery!!

I have used iMove 08/09 for several years and published several hundred movies to YouTube. Over the last few months my wife and I have been deluged with copyright infringement for audio content claimed to belong to GoDigital Media Group. We keep sending back the forms saying this is a mistake, but they keep on pouring in.
My understanding is the iMovie jingles were for amature movie enthusiasts such as myself to use them freely to enhance their home videos. The feature of publishing direct to YouTube must have been a feature added with with the agreement of YouTube as it was incorporated into the software. We have ONLY every used there jingles in all the movies claimed to have audio content owned my GoDigital, the other audio is just ambient sounds and my wife talking. We often use the same jingle reperatedly, movie after movie exactly as NOT to infringe the copyright of someone else's interllectual property.
So, after all this, why now do I feel like I'm in trouble for using iMovie!
I wish this could be sorted out as my wife with a popular YouTube channel with many hundreds of thousands of hits has lost heart and not felt like making or uploading videos to YouTube since this harrasment from GoDigital media Group started. We feel YouTube is uncontactable about it and Apple are either unaware or just not that concerned.
Could anyone help me get some feedback from apple?

Thanks for your reply -- I've clicked your link see 'this post' but it returns me to the same page. Am I doing something wrong?

  • IMovie Jingle track "Newborn". Who owns the rights?

The band Lazylectric has a song called Lose You in which the background music sounds exactly like the iMovie Jingle track Newborn. So, which came first? Did Apple buy the background music from Lazylectric, or did Lazylectric use that Jingle track as the backing music to their song? I've contacted them with this same question - so far no reply.
I wouldn't care, except I just posted a video to youtube which includes the Jingle track Newborn, and Youtube is claiming the music belongs to Lazylectric, so I can't earn ad revenue from it.
Please answer this question for me, and if at all possible help me get an official statement from Apple to Youtube & Lazylectric, so I can clear this up with them as well. Thank you.

You are licensed to use that track send them a link to http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/ilife09.pdf

  • Disputing a claim with you tube via using imovie jingle

    Hello,
Just got a message again from you tube re a jingle from imovie. The email came from noreply so went onto the copyright part of their site and you have options to dispute the claim. I chose the I have permission to use the content etc. I also included the section 2C with the pdf link. Was that the right option?

It might take a couple of weeks, but in the meantime, your video is still posted.
Here is a great article on the situation. It turns out this problem impacts pros who use Final Cut Pro as well.

  • IMovie 4 to iMovie HD and back again

I have read countless threads on issues related to choppy video in iMovieHD, but I haven't yet discovered a solution to my situation. I'm also dizzy with all the options, iMovie 4 vs iMovie HD, QT 7 vs QT 6.5.2, QT Cache Size, etc...
In years past, I have used iMovie 4 successfully on a number of big projects. These movies were usually from 60 to 90 minutes, with tons of video clips, audio clips, stills, transitions and effects. I never had a problem. This is work repeating. I never had a problem.
Then enter stage iMovie HD, and Quicktime 7. Neither seemed to have new features that I needed, but I figured, what the heck, maybe it improves performance. This is where my nightmare begins. I honestly do not know which software it the culprit, but I was in the middle of one of the most important video projects yet (and one of the biggest). Perhaps I deserve my fate since I didn't save the iMovie 4 project file, but I'm hoping some of you will be forgiving. Yes, I converted my iMovie 4 project to iMovie HD, and did not save the old project file. I didn't notice (or don't remember noticing) at first, so maybe the problem didn't start until I upgraded to QT 7. But at some point in time, I noticed a big problem in my project. I would start playing the movie to see how things were coming together, and my video would just freeze at arbitrary points (after a minute or so of playing okay). It starts getting choppy first, then the frame just freezes. The playhead continues to movie, and choppy audio is heard, but the video just seems to die.
I wiped the drive, and reinstalled iLife 04. I'm running OS X 10.3.9, and software update updated me to Quicktime 7 again. So I have a number of questions, all hopefully leading to resolution of this issue. I've lost weeks of time on this project, and I need to get it back on track.
    1. I have the iMovie HD project, but I want to work on it in iMovie 4 instead (had better luck with iMovie 4). Is there any way to mod the iMovie HD project file, or any utility, so that I can open it with iMovie 4 (and have all my clips and transitions, etc., restored)?
    2. Was downgrading from iMovie HD to iMovie 4 the wrong solution completely? Is the culprit really Quicktime 7?
    3. Does the latest Quicktime resolve this issue? I'm trying to decide whether I should upgrade to iMovie HD again. I really don't know what to do at this point. There's so much at stake, but lately my productivity has been zero, so something has to happen.
I guess I'm looking for a direction to go, and I currently feel very lost. Reading the past threads made me dizzy. I just want things to be the way they were: working. Can someone push me in the right direction?

Now I know how you equated donmerlin with Bill... I got so flustered with this problem, I ended up forgetting which Apple ID I posted under. Here is an update to the problem.
I really wanted to stay with QT 7.0.3 because the latest DVD Studio Pro requires it (as does iTunes for video playing). I tried to stay with QT 7 and revert back to iMovie 4, but because the old iMovie 4 project file was converted to iMovie HD (and there's not way to go back), I basically had to recreate the iMovie project from scratch. I started to do this, by first creating a new iMovie 4 project, then copying all of the 100's of media files from the other project into this one. Once I realized the magnitude of work involved, figuring out what's what, and which clips are transitions and effects, I knew this was a bad way to go. And chances are, it would have still been a problem, since most of what I've read has to do with QT 7 being the problem. So I changed directions.
I am fortunate enough to have two G4's, so I left QT 7.0.3 on this one, and decided to downgrade QT on my other G4. First I ran the QT 7.0.1 Reinstaller (had to use Pacifist, since the Apple installer refused to let it run). Then I ran the QT 6.5.2 Reinstaller. After that, I opened up the iMovie HD project, and lo and behold, the freezing and staggering playback issues were gone! Words cannot express the feeling of relief I had. In retrospect, I am still quite disappointed that Apple introduced an upgrade to QT that caused this horrible problem, and appears to have done nothing to resolve it. The good news is that I found my way around the problem via the QT downgrade path, and I'll never upgrade QT on this other G4 again. Thanks to everyone in sharing in my grief and posting suggestions (both in response to my post and others).

  • Can I use iMovie sound fx and jingles on vimeo and youtube?

I get stopped posting videos made in iMovie with only sounds from the iMovie library. Vimeo claim copyright issues. Someone have a solution? Is there a text to copy and paste in the title of hoppy-films that explains it?
I heard there are companies like DashGo/Audiobee stopping saying it´s their copyrighted music just to make you go to their site and get them clicks or buying from them or something.

  • IMovie'08 uploaded to YouTube with Jingles caused copyright violation notice

I just uploaded an IMovie '08 project to YouTube with my own video content from my camcorder, and audio solely from IMovie Jingles. I received a 3rd party content notification from YouTube stating that the audio content is owned by an entity called "Dance All Day." Somebody please tell me why, when I tried to avoid copyright entanglements by using only Apple's IMovie jingles, am I getting 3rd party use violation notice from YouTube? Who the heck is "Dance all Day" and why are they claiming ownership of Apple IMovie "jingles"? Who owns the rights to IMovie "jingles?"

I've had similar issues with these so-called copyright violations, simply when using Apple provided jingles in iMovie. Others here have also reported this. In my case it was a different entity that was claiming ownership of the jingles. After a while, the notices stopped appearing. YouTube place ads on the videos when there is a perceived violation, but these can be removed temporarily by clicking on the x icon. From memory, there was also a note stating that no action was required by the user, but ads would appear.

I'm running the latest version of iMovie on the latest version of Mavericks with a mid-2010 MBP.  Any ideas regarding what the problem might be and how I can get iMovie running again?

After a couple of days it finally decided to open. Previously it was showing that it was open in the Dock, but no window would appear, the message I posted would show up in the Console, and I'd have to Force Quit.  Hopefully I don't run into any more hitches. Thanks for your response.

  • Choppy video in iMovie/iDVD from Sony HDD Camcorder

I feel like I must be doing something wrong here, I've just moved from a windows XP machine to a nive shiny iMac which is lovely and I just want to hug it a lot, but.....
My DVD's just aren't coming out right, here's me thinking Macs were renowned for their video editing, but all my stuff is looking better from windows.
To explain further, I connect my Sony DCR-SR32 to the mac via USB (the Sony is a hard disk camera which records to mpeg2) iMovie recognises the camcorder and allows me to import all my clips. I spend hours putting together some holiday footage with appropriate fades, titles and cuts. I then import the finished project into iDVD and spend more hours messing with the motion video menus and getting everything looking right.
I then burn to a DVD and it looks horrible, the frame rate looks like it's about 10 fps and it's jumping around all over. After some research, I find that Perion is probably to blame, and I can work around it by exporting from iMovie as a DV file or removing Perion which I've creating a DVD.
So the output is better, not so jerky, but something is not quite right, while it's not jerky its not quite as smooth as if should be, and the colours seem to be a little more pixelated a bit like when a divX movie struggles in an area of low contrast.
I'm comparing this to running XP in a parallels session, attaching the camcorder and hitting the "Disc burn" button which burns a lovely smooth and colourful DVD without a problem.
I thought this must be an issue with the conversion, convert to h.264 when the file is pulled off the camcorder, and then again into mpeg to burn must be missing something, but I took the raw mpeg files and got Toast to burn a DVD and that was the same "not quite right" result. I've read a lot about OSX's difficulties with mpeg2 and suggestions to use Streamclip with the MPEG quicktime plugin - will this do anything better, it just seems that with any conversion you're going to lose some quality, and converting several times to get something into iMovie then again when iDVD prepares the disk seems to be asking for more trouble ?
I've double checked all the obvious things, like is it set to PAL, and is the DVD burning at the best quality. I'm even burning to disk images to take the physical DVD out of the equation.
But still the results are not satisfactory. I really don't want to have to run windows still, iMovie and iDVD - although fairly basic were really nice to use, and the overall result is great... if I could just get it to look right.
Any idea on what might be wrong in all this, or how I can get a better quality movie to burn ?

Ok, this time I tested it in playback mode.
Connected USB. Chose HDD connect. NO NAME appeared on desktop. Opened iMovie (started my stopwatch at this point). Detected camera - scanning. Generating thumbnails (at this stage it is generating thumbnails for all the clips I have on my camera. For the record, I have 6 clips of 52secs, 22secs, 40secs, 27secs, 29secs and 1min). Finally, after around 1m50s, the 'Import From' window pops up showing me the thumbnails for each clip. I stop the stopwatch.
I only want to import the 1min clip this time, just for timing reference. To import this 1min clip on my imac (see my mac profile below) took 2m30s. This includes generating the thumbnails too, although I'm not quite sure why it does this again. I think 2m30s is very slow considering that DV would/should import in real time.
Anyway, those are my findings today and I for one now have a better understanding of how to connect my camera...playback mode only!
    Thanks.

  • My external hard drive will not show up in iMovie 10.0.4.  How do I copy my movies into it?

My Mac OSX 10.9.4 has both iMovie 10 and iMovie 9. I've started uploading all of my videos from my camera to iMovie 10 and have not worried about my external hard drive. Now it's been a couple months of putting those videos onto iMovie 10 and I just connected my external hard drive and it doesn't show up in sidebar anywhere.  Is this new to iMovie 10? How can I copy my events and projects to my external hard drive from imovie 10?
If iMovie 10 is the issue, I will gladly begin using iMovie 9 again, but will need those events to get into iMovie 9.  Is there anyway to move movies in iMovie 10 to iMovie 9.
    Thanks for the help!

    Hi bwright22,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you want to copy videos to and from an external hard disk in iMovie. Take a look at the article linked below, I believe it has the information that you're looking for.
iMovie (2013): Work with multiple libraries
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14745
Show or hide the Libraries list
You select libraries and events in the Libraries list.
To show the Libraries list: Click the Show button  on the left side of the toolbar.
To hide the Libraries list: Click the Hide button  on the left side of the toolbar.
You can also choose Window > Hide Libraries (or press Shift-Command-1).
Copy or move projects, events, or clips between libraries or hard disks
Connect a hard disk that contains the target library to your computer, or copy the target library to your computer.
Choose File > Open Library, and choose an option from the submenu.
You can choose from recently opened libraries at the top of the submenu, locate an existing library on your computer, or create a new library.
The selected library is opened in the Libraries list, with the first event selected and its contents displayed in the browser.
In the Libraries list, select the event that contains the item you want to move or copy.
In the browser, select the item you want to move or copy.
Note:   To select multiple items, hold down the Command key as you click the items you want to select, or drag a selection rectangle around the items.
    Do one of the following:
To move items between events or libraries: Drag the clip or project to another event or library.
To copy items between events or libraries: Option-drag the clip or project to another event or library by first starting to drag and then holding down the Option key as you drag.
    I hope this helps.

  • Jingles and Magic GarageBand copyright question

I am making a project with royalty free music to use in my store and to sell to other businesses.
Am I allowed to use the GarageBand and iMovie jingles without changing them, just as music? Am I allowed to use them if I add something in the background (more drums, for example).
I have already made several Magic GarageBand songs I am planning to use. Is this OK? Thanks.

  • IMovie 09 Crashes every time since files on Drobo

I've been using IMovie 09 for a month, gradually importing more and more events from my DV camera, and everything has been fine.
Today I plugged in a Drobo, and tried moving an event from my internal disk to the external drive (drobo), by dragging the file within IMovie. Again, everything was fine (except that this method actually copies the event, not moves). I tried this just to see what would happen. The event was just a 'test event' of around 30 seconds in length. The event wasn't part of any project.
I then read up about the "command+drag" technique, and tried moving a different event to the Drobo. Again, it was a short clip, around 30 seconds.
Since doing that, every time I launch IMovie, it crashes straight away. Can anyone help?
    Thanks

    Jim
    Sorted.
I found a post elsewhere and the suggestion was to delete the projects folder. Then launching IMovie, the software creates a new projects folder, and I moved the projects in one by one, until I found the one that crashed it.
I suspect your solution would have been quicker however!
I just wish IMovie was less sensitive and just told me what the problem was!!
    Thanks again.

  • IMovie audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !

iMovie 11  audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !
I have created a project where I have a montage of photos and video clips edited together with music under. Some audio portions of the video files are being muted in some areas and those portions are being heard in another part of the project. This is not for all video clips only certain ones.
The project plays fine in the timeline, but when I render the project thru iTunes or Media Browser, this is when the project goes corrupt.
I tried detaching the Audio from the video clips and this somewhat worked, but the original problem still exists with certain audio still being heard where it's not supposed to be.

    I have a fix - or rather, a workaround.
WARNING: It is lengthy, but still far better than starting a new project from scratch.
I had this same issue and none of my transitions/clips were at custom speeds, nor did I have anything else weird going on. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do within iMovie to fix this, at least there wasn't for me. iMovie is BY FAR the buggiest software I have ever used and if you haven't already spent hours slaving away on a project, you are so much better off using just about anything else to edit your video.
...But let's assume you have already spent many hours working on your project and you don't want to start all over. Well then, you have at least one option.
It's a pain in the neck, but it's infinitely better than restarting your project from scratch.
    This will require:
A software called Soundflower (which is free) and some kind of audio editing software (I use Logic, but really any should work).
1.) You're going to need to export your video with the messed up audio. Typically if you're audio is messing up, you're video is at least usually working just fine (at least it always does for me).
2.) You're going to need to open that video in your audio software and import only the audio. If your software doesn't give you this option, then you're going to need to record the audio from your video using the audio software and Soundflower. You can find tutorials on how to do this, but it's honestly pretty straightforward once you start playing around with you Mac's audio I/O settings. Remember to have your computer's volume all the way up when doing this.
3.) Watch/listen to your video and make notes of where the audio errors occur. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND writing down times too,  as they will be extremely helpful later.
4.) Now were going to rip some working audio from the iMovie project itself. Go back into your iMovie project and only play back audio while in the edit window for this step. Do NOT play your project back in full screen.
This part is key: if you try to play back your project from the beginning the audio will usually still mess up. So, what you're gonna have to do is go back on your edit window timeline right before these errors occur and play that specific clip back while recording this working audio with Soundflower and your audio software. Essentially we're only recording the parts of the audio where these errors occur, so try to do this in order if you can. Try to leave several seconds of audio in before the error - that way we can use it as reference when we construct our new audio track.
5.) Now in your audio software you should have your original error-filled audio track and the new clips that we just captured. This part can be painstaking if you're not familiar with audio editing softwares, but as you'll learn, it's really not that hard.
You're going to look at your original audio track and compare it to your new working audio clips. You should be able to notice where those new clips are supposed to go by looking at the identical (or close to identical) waveform shapes in your original audio track. The two should correspond with one another. If you don't understand what I mean right now, you will when you start playing around with the audio. This is why marking times is very important.
Take your new clips and split them up if you haven't already, that way you can drag them around and edit them separately from one another. Essentially your going to line these new clips up with original and then replace the original parts with new ones.
We need to get this as precise as possible, so start off by getting them as close as you can with your naked eye, and then use a zoom tool to zoom in as much as possible so that you can get them lined up PERFECTLY, or at least extremely close. In some softwares you can just drag these new clips on top of the old track, but most of the time you will need to actually cut out the old piece and replace it with the new one. In doing this, zoom in and make sure that you are NOT cutting out a bigger space than your new clip will fill - otherwise you will have small gaps in your audio.
VERY IMPORTANT: Also make sure that this new audio track starts at the EXACT SAME time as your original - otherwise your new audio will be out of sync.
I know this part can really suck if you're not used to audio editing, but at this point, there is little other choice.
6.) Once you are done with this, export your newly pieced together audio track.
7.) Now open iMovie and create a NEW project. Re-import the video that you exported earlier that has the messed up audio. This might take a while, so just be patient.
8.) Then right click the clip and select "Detach Audio". This will do just that - allowing you to edit the audio separately from the video. Now delete this audio.
9.) Now, import the new, perfect audio track that we just made and make sure that it starts at the start of the project. Make sure it's in sync and that everything works.
Now just export your new video with the working audio and you should be done. Since we have given iMovie the audio with no editing actually being done in iMovie, it does not have to generate its own audio now and you should have absolutely no errors now - unless there is some that you forgot to take out earlier.
    YOU'RE FINALLY DONE!!!
I know this entire process *****, but if you're that far into your project, there is little else that you can do. Now you've learned your lesson:
    DON'T USE IMOVIE EVER AGAIN.
    I hope this helped!

  • IMovie won't allow me to do ANYTHING.

So, a couple of hours ago I was editing a video (which was taking over an hour to create) when I received messages every 20 seconds telling me how something could not import because it was having problems, even though at the moment, I was not importing anything nor editing. Then it said it had to force-quit to prevent anything in my project from being lost.
My only option was to continue so I did so. I decided to restart my computer and check it again.
I checked it 3 times after restarting and it would not let me: import, view my project (which probably doesn't exist anymore) or view any of my other projects when it said I had two but none showed on the screen.
I waiting, restarted again, getting anxious. So I updated it (Update from January 23), in hopes of recovery.
Hour later, still same issues. I have no clue what to do and i I can even USE iMovie ever again.
    ANYTHING would be helpful.
    Thank you
