Hey there. Which list are you talking about? Are you talking movie clips in the clip browser of iMovie HD? Or are you in another application (such as Pages, or iDVD) that has a media viewer, and it is showing movie items that you don't want to appear?

  • Movies in Media iMovie list in iDVD

My movies in the Media iMovie list seem quite a mess.  There are two folders each with the same name for the seven different titles that I would expect to see there.
Can I delete movies from the Media iMovie list?  If so, how?  And, if I used one of those movies in an iDVD project, does it need to remain in the list?
    I'm using iDVD 7.1.2

    This may help:
1 - delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - go to your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • IMovie won't open projects

iMovie 11 won't open any of my projects ...I can see the projects in finder, but when I click open w/iMovie iMovie opens but does not open any projects and then crashes.    Help!

Got it.  Thanks.  Deleted teh plist file.  Seemed to help when I reopened imovie - listed all projects, but froze up again when I tried to open one.  Went back to Library/Preferences, but no new plist file created.  Should I try deleting the plist.lockfile file?  Each plist file seems to have a lockfile file.  Thanks again.

  • Moving iMovie 09's library to an external hard drive...

    Hi.
I have iMovie 09, but have followed this procedure: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1026 to move my events to and external hard drive. Couldn't find a similar article specific to iMovie 09... I assume they work the same way...
Well, this COPIED the events folder but left a copy still taking up space on my Mac hard drive. Can I just delete the events folder from my Mac safely? If the whole purpose is to save room on my Mac, why does this procedure "copy" instead of "transfer" the files?
I remember a similar procedure for iPhoto libraries, where you'd transfer the library file to an external hard drive then restart iPhoto (now with an empty library) holding Option or CTRL (can't remember) and a hidden menu asking you to point iPhoto to a library file would appear... Is there a way to do this for iMovie 09? even want my Projects to be on the external hard drive... and every time I import clips I want them to default to the external; hard drive iMovie "library"...

Thank you all for the tips.
Workflow that worked for me (might help others):
    1. Make sure the little "hard drive" icon is active within iMovie (listing all hard drives where your events and projects are, on the left hand side). If you never had any events on the external hard drive you will see in the "tree" there but it will be empty.
    2. COMMAND+Drag projects one by one from the upper left panel (where you see their thumbnails and information such as "Broadcasted to Youtube", etc... onto the external hard drive.
2.1 iMovie will ask you if you want to move related EVENTS to the external hard drive too so that the projects don't have missing data. DO THIS or the projects will be broken and you will need to redo them from scratch...
2.2 The step above will move both the projects AND the events they have clips from to the external hard drive to the newly created iMovie Projects and iMovie Events (these are created automatically by iMovie when you drag your events/projects to the external hard drive. You don't need to create those folders in advance. Try it with a small event/project and you will see what I am talking about.
    3. Now that you moved all your projects+related events to the external hard drive you can:
    a. move the remaining events that have no projects related to them to the external hard drive via Command+drag INDIVIDUALLY from the iMovie library itself OR
    b. move all the events at once from Finder > Movies > iMovie Events >>> to the iMovie Events folder on your external hard drive's iMovie Events folder...
I did 3a. just to be safe... but as Sheryl or Appleman said here, it is probable safe to do 3b since there are no projects related to the remaining events that could be broken....
    HTH...

  • How do I import my (many) videos so iMovie separates them by the date they orig. were made?

How do I import my (many) videos so iMovie separates them by the date they orig. were made?
(Like iPhoto does with photos) But not one at a time! If that is not possible with IMovie, can iTunes do that?
I want to import my videos from an external drive to my Mac Book Pro 10.8.3. Thank you so much for your time and patience.

    Hi Walter,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below will give you some insight as to how iMovie organizes video:
    iMovie '11: Organize your video
    Organize the Event Library
When you import video from your camera into iMovie, you name the video (called an Event), and then by default iMovie lists it in the Event Library by the date it was recorded.
To separate clips in the Event browser by the days they were recorded, choose View > “Show Separate Days in Events.”
You might want to do this if you have any Events that contain video that was recorded on more than one day. For example, an Event could have video recorded on New Year’s Eve and on New Year’s Day. To find specific clips more easily, you could separate the footage by date.
I hope this information helps ...

  • How to share iMovie 10 to iDVD

I'm now unable to Share to iDVD.
This is a problem as I need to burn to DVD for our Church members to watch on their DVD players at home as well as the
local cable TV channel to also play our DVD on-air.
    help?

    Hi,
perhaps not as slick as before (and assuming you are on the latest version of iDVD) it still seems possible to get your movies into iDVD from the lastest iteration of iMovie
    either by
sharing your finished work to the theatre, then
    opening iDVD
    creating a new project
clicking the plus sign and selecting add movie
dragging your movie from the theatre to the placeholder created
    OR
share your movie to a file and save in your movies folder
open iDVD and select 'Magic iDVD'
click on the Movies tab - Ignore the iMovie list and then select your film(s) from the dropdown list within movies and drag into the area that says 'drop movies here'
both methods have worked for me for a movie created using the new version of iMovie.
    Hope this helps

  • .AVI imports in iMovie '09

I don't mean to beat a dead horse; I've read all the previous posts pertaining to this, but something is still amiss with me:
I'm trying to import .avi movies from my INSIGNIA video camera into iMovie. I have MPEG-streamclip, VLC, and Perian on my MacBook Pro. I've imported them as a DV file, but can't seem to get the videos to import with audio. I am running Snow Leopard.
I can open the .avi files with Quicktime and everything works (video and sound)...I just can't seem to get it to iMovie with audio and video intact.
Any insight? I feel like I've tried everything...
    Thanks all.
    -M

I have tried to find solutions to importing to iMovie '09 but have given up. I have thousands of clips that were transferred from a dying HD of movie clips. Some are .avi some are .mov as well as a few odd formats. All play fine and have no problems uploading them to YouTube or viewing them in iTunes. Clips that I download from my family's iWeb or Gallery accounts don't import.
The only thing that I see in my iMovie listing of available choices is my iPhoto Library were I can use clips that I have downloaded from my digital camera.
I have not been able to use or see a use for iMovie '09 because I cannot get the files that I need to import. Grrr
    TIA if you can help

  • Can't Open iMovie

All of a sudden I can't get iMovie (iMovie 4) to open or activate. Any idea why this is happening? Can I get some suggestions on fixes? I've restarted, repaired permissions and even used Disk Warrior all to no avail. Ideas? Thanks.

    Hi group,
I'm having a similar issue. Suddenly iMovie (4) crashed. When I tried to reopen, the icon in the doc didn't move and the black triangle only appeared briefly.
I have trashed the preference file, and run permission repair, and cleaned the caches with Cocktail.
I then trahsed iMovie and went to reinstall it from the Cd. But, the CD says it can't install because either iTunes, iPhoto, or iMovie is open. Which none of them are. Seems like the computer thinks iMovie is still running? I looked in Activity Monitor, but didn't see iMovie listed in there.
So, I dragged iMovie back into the applications folder, but now it says "You cannot open iMovie because it may be damaged or incomplete".
I did locate a file called imovie.crash.log that has tons of verbage I don't understand.
    Any thoughts? Help?

  • TS3355 hello, I have a Problem in Imovie in IPad 3.

The Imovie can't see the my photo and I can't use the photos and videos i already have.
I reinstall the Imov however no change.
need assistance how to solve this problem
    thanks

I think this is likely a privacy issue. iMovie cannot see your photos and videos without your permission.
On your iPad, go to Settings.
On the left hand side, click Privacy.
On the right side of the Privacy pane, click Photos.
You should see iMovie listed there. Turn the switch to ON.

  • Sequence of still photos in iMovie (09)

I have a large number of still photos imported into iMovie; however, the numerical sequence, i.e. 1-144 of the photos is not observed in the project window. I don't wish to do a manual adjustment of the slides. The sides are numbered accordingly.
    Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Problem found:
the sequence was intact - it's just that some of the photos were missing from the iMovie list (even though they appear in the album when viewed in iPhoto)
all the pics claim to be JPEG, but it seems some are not being recognised by iMovie.
I found that exporting the suspect pics from iPhoto (as JPEG) and reimporting them, helped clean up whatever incompatibility issue was going on.

  • Error when connecting my camera

I've had a problem attaching my Panasonic NV-GS35 mini-dv camera to my brand new imac. When i attach it to capture footage i get the error message "An error occured while configuring Quicktime using the current capture preset. Please quit final cut pro and check your hardware configuration."
I have updated final cut pro with the latest updates, i use a firewire cable and i turn on the camera after attaching the camera. The camera is in playback mode like it's supposed to be. I've attached another camera and that works perfectly, that camera was a Sony DCR-PC330E mini-dv camera. I used the original cable in the same ports so it's not the cable. Any ideas how to fix this problem so i can capture using my Panasonic camera?
    Thankyou

    Hi
May be You find help in my general (iMovie) list:
    • Test another FW-Cable.
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toogle in iMovie pref: Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape:
Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Exchange formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
    Using WHAT ? :
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
    • FCE/P version
*Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? (Others don't count)*
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into
    this and have a re-try.

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

camera not on battery, but power-line?
did your Mac 'recognize' this camera before...?

  • How to resume downloads?

How can I resume my downloads after they have been disrupted? I was recently downloading iMovie and the download was disrupted, as a result I was unable to resume the download and I may have wasted my money. Could someone tell me how I can resolve this problem?

You will find iMovie listed on your Purchases page in the App Store. You can re-start the download there. No extra charges.

  • Moving photos around in an event

I was reading some other posts but want to make sure I've got it straight. I've been wanting to move some photos around in an event and now my understanding is that I CAN'T do that. I cannot move the photos around in the event but will have to create an album of that even and then move the photos around in the album. Is that correct?

the EVENTS are a 'list' or Library of any import into iMovie, listed in chronological order.
the PROJECTS now allow you to 'sort' and arrange any content from that Library - in total or just parts, in any order and as often as you like (=same lip again and again or in as many projects you like).
understanding this concept of iM comes to conclusion: you can not 'move' any content in Events.
you don't 'arrange' Events, you arrange Events or parts of it on Projects.
have you read the Tutorials of iM?

  • Caf sound files

I found a lot of sound effects in the apple loop with the file att .caf.
When I double click on them they open in Q time to listen to them.
I tried to open them in iTunes but they won't.
I also noticed that there is a list of these .caf files in the sound effects of iMovie which is where I want them.
How do I put the extra .caf files I want from the apple loop into the iMove list? I tried dragging them but that doesn't work neither did copy and paste. I can't get to a sound file inside iMovie to put them in - can I access this sound effect file inside iMovie to paste extra ones?
    Hope I made myself understood.
    Cheers
    SAS

    Hi SAS,
The iLife Sound Effects are located here:
Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > Apple Loops > Apple > iLife Sound Effects folder
You should be able to drag and drop any extra files into the appropriate folder.
Here are a couple of interesting articles about .caf files (Core Audio Format) and how to convert them to other formats:
    http://www.mymacjournal.com/converting-caf-files-to-mp3/
    http://www.mymacjournal.com/converting-caf-files-to-other-formats-using-switch/
Googling ".caf files" or "caf file format" brings up lots of references - which is what I did
