IMovie lost link to iPhoto movies,

I'm using iMovie 08, and iPhoto 08, and have successfully imported many movies from iPhoto to iMovie. I have used those "iPhoto movies" in projects.
For some reason I now get a little triangle with a yellow exclaimation point "!" in over the movie clips in the +project window+, and can't export the projects. The movies are still in iPhoto in the same folders that they were always in, they are still viewable in the iPhoto movies folders within iMovie, but they have lost their link to the video clips in the projects.
Also, when I use a clip in the project a little broken up orange line appears in the clip in the iPhoto movies window to indicate which portion of the clip is used. Those orange lines are now gone.
But the project looks fine, except for the warning triangles. I can even drag across and view the clips in the project window (the clips with the warning triangles), so there is some information still there. But I can, for example, export a large version of the project to be used in iDVD.
Any ideas how to restore this link?

First, try rebuilding the iPhoto database. And try this:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1192
They're not referencing properly. The original AVI files are not being located in the iPhoto database, but the project MOV files are fine because they are native to iMovie.

  • Lost link between iPhoto library and iPhoto.app

While learning how to use Photoshop Elements 4.0 and Bridge, I made the choice to "browse" in Bridge. When I next started iPhoto 6.06, my link to the Library was lost. I have worked with AppleCare support, done every exercise short of creating a new library and losing my organization. With 20,000 + photos I would like to avoid that exercise. I do have backups but am trying to figure out if I can solve this any other way. All my files are still in iPhoto Library, and I can see the organization of my albums in Bridge. With some exercises, I get the message: "Unreadable files: 1. The following file could not be imported: '/Users/john/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Library.iPhoto.'"
If I delete Adobe Photoshop Elements and Bridge from the hard drive, will this help? I promise I did not do anything within iPhoto Library in Finder!
    Thanks so much!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
There's absolutely no harm in using PSE with iPhoto, it's Bridge that's a killer. So that's what you chuck from your machine. Set up PSE as an external editor in the iPhoto Preferences. That way you can double click a pic in iPhoto and it will open automatically in PSE, save it PSE and have it come back into iPhoto seamlessly.
What's likely happened here is that you have (or Bridge has) made changes in the iPhoto Library Folder which has broken the link between iPhoto and the library files.
    Some things to try:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. Choose Locate, and point iPhoto at the iPhoto Library Folder.
What Back Ups do you have? If there's an up-to-date one, then try copying the library6.iphoto file from it to the iPhoto Library Folder allowing it to overwrite the confused one.
That said, if these don't work, your options will only be to create and populate a new library: To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    Finally, the message
"Unreadable files: 1. The following file could not be imported: '/Users/john/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Library.iPhoto.'"
is because iPhoto will not import a picture that's in the active iPhoto Library Folder - a sensible precaution against duplication.

  • IMovie - Rebuilding "iPhoto Movies" Database

Hello... I'm having an issue with how iMovie is showing my iPhoto Movies.
I initially went into iMovie and had it build my iPhoto Movie database. Sometime later, I decided to organize my events in iPhoto and merge some events, which would move some movies into one event, instead of two. The issue is that in iMovie, the Event Name has changed or merged into one, but the movies are still being displayed separately.
For example, I have an event London. When merging two events within London, in iMovie, the movies are displayed as:
    iPhoto Videos - London
    iPhoto Videos - London
    iPhoto Videos - London
instead of all of the videos being displayed in just one "iPhoto Videos - London", it's displayed multiple times.
If there isn't a fix for this specific issue, is there a way to have iMovie rebuild the iPhoto movies section? If this is possible, will it destroy any movies I have already created? Thanks!

I am having the same problem. My iPhoto movies in iMovie seem to be appearing under the names of the folders where they are stored in the iPhoto library folder. But that's a folder that's a no-no - touch it and seriously damage your iPhoto library. When I merge or otherwise rearrange events in iPhoto, those changes are not reflected in iMovie. iMovie should display iPhoto movies under the events in which they're stored - and that info should be updated as the user manages his/her iPhoto library.
Perhaps the answer has something to do with choosing "move" or "copy" when the movies are originally imported? Maybe iMovie '11 will address this problem?
Advice from anyone who can shed some light on this would be greatly appreciated!

  • Loss the link with iphoto after library move

I am using Imovie with events stored in Iphoto
I have moved ma Iphoto library from a disk to an other one
In Imovie, I can see the movie stored in Iphoto,
but if i select an existing projet, it can't find the event in iphoto

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Marc.
When you use video from iPhoto in an iMovie project, a link is created from iMovie back to the iPhoto Library. Moving the iPhoto Library to a different directory breaks the link between iMovie and iPhoto. Once that link is broken it cannot be repaired.
Are you running Time Machine to make backups?
If you restore your iPhoto Library and iMovie Projects folder from before you moved the iPhoto Library, that will restore your Projects to a working state.
For the future you might want to drag your movies out of iPhoto and then import them to iMovie using the File > Import > Movies command in iMovie. That will add the movie clips to iMovie as a new event rather than storing them in iPhoto.
    Hope that helps.

  • IMovie 08 hangs while trying to import iPhoto movies at the start.

    Hi guys,
When I open Imovie 08, it asks me to import iphoto movies. Then it stays there for ages and never ends importing those movies. I know I can just skip this process but I want to edit those videos from iPhoto.
I guess is some corrupted file it is trying to import what is causing this incident but I have no idea how to tell which is the "bad" file since iMovie doesn't give any information about it.
    Any clues?
    Thanks in advence

    Hi,
I wouldn't say I have such a lot of movies in Iphoto but deffintely they are quite a few... anyway, I suspect it will never end because the timer gets bigger and bigger; and yes I left it running overnight with no luck.
Is there any way to see in which video is iMovie having the problem? The other workarround means having to backup and delete videos randomly until I find "the bad one".
    Cheers.

  • IPhoto movies not showing up in "iPhoto Movies" tab of iMovie

Some of my iPhoto movies aren't showing up in the "iPhoto Movies" tab under the events browser. Does anyone know of a way to ensure that all of them show up? They are all of the same video format, so I don't know why some are appearing and others are not.

But in iMovie, only two of these movies show up in the iPhoto videos events. How do I get the third one to show up in iMovie?
Not sure, but try this: Close iMovie. From iPhoto, drag the AVI movie to the Desktop. This will create a copy on the Desktop. Now drag this file back into iPhoto. You will be asked if you wish to import a duplicate - click on Import. Now open iMovie - hopefully the newly imported AVI movie in iPhoto will now be recognised by iMovie, which will commence creating thumbnails. If desired, you can delete the original movie from iPhoto.
If this doesn't work, try converting the AVI file to another format. This can be done in either QuickTime 7 or QuickTime X, depending on the conversion required. Open the AVI file on your Desktop (the one dragged from iPhoto earlier) in QuickTime X. If the movie is 640 x 480 go to File>Save As and choose the format HD 480p. That will save the movie in H.264 format using 2 Mbits/s at up to 640 x 480 resolution. If your original movie is in some other resolution, you will probably be given other Save As options, so choose the most appropriate. If you have QuickTime 7, you can export using a much wider range of formats. However, the best to use are AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) or the H.264 format - both work perfectly with iMovie '09.
Once you have the exported file (whether from QuickTime 7 or X), import it to iMovie. In iMovie's menu choose File>Import Movies. You should now be in business!

  • Can't import iphoto movies into imovie 08

The first time I launched iMovie 08 it imported the movies I made with my still camera from iPhoto. Some time later iMovie asked me to import some new movies from iPhoto I added. I did not want to wait for this process so I canceled. I thought it would be easy to import them later. Now I am trying to do this but it is just not working.
I would prefer to have these movies in the iPhoto-Videos event. But it seems to be impossible.
So I try to import them as normal movies. I can chose them and import them but they do not appear in the selected event.
    Does someone have ideas?

    Now I got it:
I converted them with "MPEG Streamclip" software and then imported to iMovie without any problems.
The movies from iTunes iMovie can handle came from my Nokia N93 cell phone and not from my digital still camera.

  • IPhoto movies not showing up in iMovie

I have looked at a few other topics, and I think I have discovered the source of the problem, but I don't know how to fix it.
    I have: iMovie '08 and iPhoto '08.
I went to QT player and selected "Show Movie Inspector" to look at the format. The two videos that both show up have these formats:
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz
    H.264 Decoder, 320 x 240, Millions
    and
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz
    H.264 Decoder, 480 x 320, Millions
But the ones that DON'T show up have this format:
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz
    H.264 Decoder, 1280 x 720, Millions
So I'm assuming the problem is the size of the videos. Is this correct? If so, how can I change them? And if this wouldn't be the problem, does anyone have any other suggestions?

But in iMovie, only two of these movies show up in the iPhoto videos events. How do I get the third one to show up in iMovie?
Not sure, but try this: Close iMovie. From iPhoto, drag the AVI movie to the Desktop. This will create a copy on the Desktop. Now drag this file back into iPhoto. • How can I store my video footage in one library? Currently I have video clips in itunes, iphoto, movies folder, imovie, imovieHD... probably some duplicates, How can I clean this up?

Currently I have video clips in itunes, iphoto, movies folder, imovie, imovieHD... probably some duplicates, How can I clean this up?

Yeah, this is frustrating for me, too. I tried a few different variants: keeping everything in Aperture, keeping only videos in iPhoto, keeping videos in Movies folder, etc. Reason being I'd like to be able to sync some videos back to the iPhone will keeping access available for iMovie - which is tougher than it should be. Now that the iPhone does HD videos, Apple needs to either adjust iPhoto to work with videos better or work with iMovie to actually function as a movie database as well as editor.
For now, I, too, have my stuff strewn about on my Mac but I'm trying to consolidate as much as I can into iMovie events on an external drive. I have a bunch of video clips of my 2 year old and I've decided to just group them by year and then put together an edit of each to then put into iTunes so I can view them on AppleTV as well as sync to my iPhone. I figure I won't ever sit down and watch every single clip so I might as well put together the "highlights".

  • How to delete iphoto movies in imovie

    Hello,
I imported all of my iphoto movies into imovie and now I can not figure out how to delete them from the imovie event library. The import used 8GB of memory and I need the space. I searched the forums but I can't figure it out. All help is appreciated. Thanks

    Hello All,
I found out what happened. For some unknown reason, when I imported the movie clips into imovie they were copied within the iphoto folders. Before the import they were just in the Originals folder. After the import they were located in both the Data and Originals folder in the iphoto path. I was speaking to an Apple Care rep when we found them. At first he was sure that imovie would not copy thm and asked me why I thought that my disk space had been reduced by 8GB. I knew because I watched my free space dwindle during the two hour import and noted the space available before and after the import. He said that this was very odd and imovie should not have not have copied the files and he will report it to Apple. Thanks,

  • Is there a way to permanently move all my iPhoto movies to iMovie?

Is there a way to permanently move all my iPhoto movies to iMovie?
Also is there a way to view them as a movie in iPhoto?
I have a lot and can't see what I've got and if I want to delete them.

I don't know of a quick way, but I might think about it like this.
    1) Create a Smart Album in iPhoto that contains only movies.
    2) Right-click on each one and choose Reveal in Finder. Make a copy and paste it in a folder where you an find it.
    3) Import these movies into iMovie using FILE/IMPORT MOVIE
    4) Go back and delete the movies from ipHoto. You can also delete that Finder folder you made as an intermediate step.

  • Slow iMovie '08 launch (iPhoto movie clip export)

After using iMovie 6 HD intensively for a year, I'm quite impressed with the new '08, especially its skimming and selection features and the whole new approach to quicker home movie creation.
Surely the new version has many bugs. The worst one which I continuously see is very slow application launch due to automatic iPhoto video export: Every time I start iMovie '08 it takes more than 2 minutes to open the "iPhoto Videos" folder and thumbnails (there are hundreds of movie clips). What is even more frustrating is that the slow loading happens every time (jamming the whole program again) when clicking the movie library icons.
For some reason there is no "Show only Last Import" filtering for iPhoto media, only for clips imported directly from video camera to iMovie '08. This is very frustrating, as I mostly use my digital camera for taking movie clips.
Apple: Please add important filters like "Show: Latest Import Only" (selected as the default!) and "Show: Last Month Only" that would apply to iPhoto movie clips as well.
I tried to workaround the slow start by selecting several clips and marking them as Favourite (to filter by Favourite). This just doesn't work, as one cannot select multiple clips, making it really slow to select each clip individually and mark them as Favourites just to help the application launch in reasonable time.
The other frustrating issue has been disappearing movie "timeline view" (happening quite often after adding clips and transitions). I fix this by opening and closing the project/library browser view, which makes the timeline appear again.
Thank you for a great new movie tool! Please make the critical fixes soon to let me use its full potential.

you're missing, that iM08 doesn't handle all kind of 'video'; here on the board, we noticed that 'Animation Codec' (=used by SnapZ) creates such an effect: it imports, you can edit it, but on exprt = 'zil.
you have to convert it BEFORE import into iM08; use tools as QuicktimePro (30$), or Mpeg Steamclip (free) to convert it into e.g. dv-stream or AppleIntermediate to make it 'useful' with iM ...

So I started iMovie08 and it wanted to make thumb nails for my iPhoto movies.  I have many. However, it stopped part way. The most recent movies have no thump nails and these are the ones I want. is there a way to re-do this scan? What happens when I add new movies in the future?

I haven't been able to figure it out, but would like to. I also can't understand why it won't recognize the video from my phone (Treo 650.) Fromat issue? Is there an easy work around? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Can't see iPhoto movies in Event Library

My iPhoto Library link in my iMovie Event Library has gone AWOL. How can I get this back?

Unfortunately FCP doesn't organize media like iMovie does. What you can do is go to the import tab in FCP preferences and uncheck the box that says copy files to Final Cut Events Folder. Then go to your event browser and create a new event in the drive you want. Then drag the iPhoto movie from the effects library to the event you created. FCP will only create an alias file back to the original which is a small file.
