IMovie Menu Theme Problem...

I have made many DVDs happily with iMovie.
When I started a new project today, however, all the menu themes had dissapeared.
Only the "Travel" option is now available.
I've tried looking through the preferences etc. and cannot find any way of opening them again. The help option makes no mention of the problem, either.
I am running iLife '06 on Panther...

So, you are writing only about the G5 computer; there is no second unit involved?
Since you stated "I am running iLife '06 on Panther..." and posted a question in
a Discussions forum area for the iMac G4 LCD computer with pivoting display,
the natural assumption based on two provided factoids would point to a second
computer outside of the one indicated on your signature-line of your posts.
If that is in error, perhaps the iMovie (iLife) section of the Discussions should be
visited and the topic addressed in that venue? My post's avatar is an iMac G4.
{Of course, iMovie would be similar no matter the hardware it is installed into,
so long as the operating system is the same and the version of iMovie is, too.}
Was a previous version of iMovie in the computer at an earlier time? Perhaps
there is a plist or other settings file from a different version; or some other item
affecting how iMovie works in the computer. Why it would change - is curious.
Did you boot the computer from the OS X Installer, and run 'repair disk' then also
run 'repair disk permissions' from the installer's Disk Utility? After quitting the utility,
and restarting from the computer's hard disk drive, you could re-boot the computer
and see if SafeBoot mode on startup, plus run the local Disk Utility's 'repair disk
permissions' then restart normally (SafeBoot= shift key on boot, until login box;
login and continue to desktop) since you have to exit SafeBoot by restarting.
In order to re-install iMovie, you would probably have to remove old pkg files for it
from the receipts folder and plist files from preferences; there are other ways, to
get just iMovie to reinstall. One is to get and use (in demo) the Pacifist utility; it
can extract and install just a portion of a software set from the disc.
I'm not sure why the functions in your iMovie app have changed in such a way.
There may be some other similar topics in the same section where iLife apps
are discussed. And some other kinds of maintenance may be required to help
Leopard function as good as it could be. I'd get and run OnyX from Titanium
Software, a free download utility tool; the item has a good Automation section
and that can do a lot of good (and if misused, a little harm) to the OS X system.
Good luck & happy computing!

  • Loading themes problem

I'm posting this again, since i got no response in a topic which is "answered" whereas it's actually not :

Same "loading themes" problem for me, with iDVD 7.2.
I tried deleting the preferences file and started again idvd, nothing.
The only thing i can do to have it work is use another account, as a matter of fact. But i'd rather use my account, so i'd like to reinstall idvd. but how can i do it?
    thanks
    stéphane

Actually, iDVD used to work on the other account, because it was kind of blank (there was no video in it). I've just created a new imovie project, on this second account : now there are files in the "Videos" folder (sorry for my english, i'm not sure what's the word on a mac in english, but it french the folder is named "Séquences"), and iDVD freezes again. Even on the second account.
So, to sum up: *as soon as there is one file in the Video folder* (whether a imovie file or any other, like any .avi file), iDVD cant open and freezes...
dont you think that it could be worth reinstalling iDVD? but how? Or maybe there are other applications to make DVDs?
(all software is up to date on my mac)

  • Disc Menu theme and duration of audio file

    Hi,
I've downloaded the Disc Menu Theme "Christmas" into my Premiere Elements 12 project.
In this menu I want a song to play in the background, so I imported the song into the Audio part of Menu Background adjustments.
However, the duration is not possible to adjust. It's "stuck" on 13 seconds.
Is this duration set by the menu theme or is it possible to adjust it in any other way?

    Trond Skarpeid
This is not a problem specific to Premiere Elements 12 and all menus.
The problem that you have is related to how the Christmas background in the  main menu .psd file was created. Its creation is based on a video file with the duration of 13.4 seconds, not a still image.
Your answer could be to replace the original video being used with one that has a duration of 29.29 seconds or to take the original video and extend its duration from 13.4 seconds to 29.29 seconds.
Your target is the christmas_w_mm_bg.mpg or christmas_hd_mm.bg.mpg file in the Christmas Folder in the route

The file duration can be altered in Premiere Elements and exported as Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG PAL whether you are NTSC or PAL based.

This is an easy one to fix.
Please let us know the outcome.

  • I downloaded the Valentines Day DVD menu theme in Adobe Premiere Elements 11, but won't work

It's downloaded but it won't set everything up like the other DVD menu themes when you click on them. Why is this happening?

    pnasty09
Thanks for the reply. How many of the other themes have you tried so that you know it is just this one theme that has a problem?
Assuming that your Premiere Elements 11 is on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit computer, let us try deleting the Premiere Elements 11 settings file which is named Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs.

  • Menu Bar Problem with picture.

The right corner of my menu bar has vanished completely including spotlight, the date and time, and various system menu icons. Checking to add these icons in the preferences does not do anything. It is as if the menu bar is "extended" off the screen. I tried various things such as resetting the PRAM/NVRAM, SMC, deleting the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist, etc. I tried running disk utility and an archive install but I keep getting an error and can not continue. I even played around with the display settings. Here is a picture:

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

It's not a theme problem by the way.

  • Download Menu Themes fail - Pre 11

    Premier Elements 11
    Desktop, Win7, Intel i7, 16 gig
NVida GTX460 - this maybe the reason I went to Pre11 from Pre10 last year.
New project with 7 video clips (Canon 1920x1080 .mts) and several dozen stills (.jpg), approx 1.3 hours.
After downloading a menu theme (20-40 megs), screen shows a blank pane for Adjustments (see attached).   Tried downloading several different theme files, no good.
Created several mini projects, same failure after downloading a menu theme.
Archiving the project (trimmed) and loading to a notebook with Pre11 then was successful in downloading "Stages" menu theme. Made edits with no issues.   Brought revised project back to desktop and getting a "Project not compatible".
Loading a existing project created a year ago in Pre11 results in a "Project not compatible"
Suspect the "menu theme" function in Pre11 has gotten hammered, no big issues with the rest of Pre11.   Question is what is the best course of action?
My first goal is to preserve the projects I already have. (no Project Archiver versions - my bad)
Can I de-install Pre11 and re-install w/o losing the many existing video projects going back several years?
Is it time to move to version 13?   (not looking forward to the learning curve)
    Thanks in advance

    1. If you cleaned out the Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Field Folders, how much free hard drive space would you free up?
4 gig.   The 11.0 directory on C contains 9.5 gig, including two Trimmed directories (2.5 gig each)
    2. What is this L drive to where the Media Cache (conformed audio) is directed. Free space 21.4 GB seems very low for such an active place.
Just a 75 gig partition used for temp files and things like Pagefile.sys, have deleted some items now have 63 gig free.
    3. Your desktop system seems to be on the lower side for free hard drive space.
         Here is an overall picture:
What is your Internet speed rating for Down/Up?
         Down 6 megabit (= 750 megabytes)  Up  650 kilobit
    4. Please remind me what the free hard drive space looks like at location for Adobe Premiere Elements Previews File Folder and Media Cache Files Folder on your computer which does not have this movie menu issue?
On the laptop all Scratch Disks are pointed to C:, 57 gig empty.
What happens if you switch out Online Folders - Desktop Online out, copy of other computer's Online Folder into Desktop where its own Online Folder had been previously located?
Just did that, no change.   When I try to apply the "Stage" theme from Entertainment to a small test project, it instantly goes to the following screen with just gray in the Adjustments panes. Hitting Reset to no avail.
The "Stage' directory has the same number of files and sizes on both the Laptop and Desktop.
Currently, what about other Content Downloads, such as graphics, Instant Movies, etc. all the same problem as movie menus?
Not entirely sure what you are asking.   Just did my first "Instant Movie" downloaded 260 meg of Crystal Glass and it appeared to build correctly.
Overall,  do not see any indication that I have a failure to download files.   Still feels like Pre11 got damaged somewhere - so I am ready to do an de-install/install if I am not risking the .PREL files.

  • Portfolio theme problem

In imovie HD there is a portfolio theme.
You can drop 12 photos, but when it plays back you can see the 12 but only 5 or 6 actually pop up.
Does it do this for everyone or is something wrong with my setup?
I would like to see all 12 eventually pop up

    Robert,
I think you may be talking about iDVD.
In the Portfolio menu theme only 6 of your images do the pop up thing. The others just sit there and look pretty.

  • How do I import my (many) videos so iMovie separates them by the date they orig. were made?

How do I import my (many) videos so iMovie separates them by the date they orig. were made?
(Like iPhoto does with photos) But not one at a time! If that is not possible with IMovie, can iTunes do that?
I want to import my videos from an external drive to my Mac Book Pro 10.8.3. Thank you so much for your time and patience.

    Hi Walter,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below will give you some insight as to how iMovie organizes video:
    iMovie '11: Organize your video
    Organize the Event Library
When you import video from your camera into iMovie, you name the video (called an Event), and then by default iMovie lists it in the Event Library by the date it was recorded.
To separate clips in the Event browser by the days they were recorded, choose View > “Show Separate Days in Events.”
You might want to do this if you have any Events that contain video that was recorded on more than one day. For example, an Event could have video recorded on New Year’s Eve and on New Year’s Day. To find specific clips more easily, you could separate the footage by date.
I hope this information helps ...

  • Audio changes for Menu themes

The menu themes in Premiere Elements 12 do not allow a change to the volume on the preset music scores in the Main Menu page; or allow for a change-out to another music choice on the presets for the "Scene Selection" page – how do I do those two things?
The menu theme I selected for my video is SCREAMING loud and prompts the viewer to quickly turn down the volume, but then they have to crank it back up to hear the video.  I converted a VHS tape to a DVD video and then I added photos at the end for a wedding project.  This sound thing is driving me nuts every time I preview it and does the same thing on the DVD when I burn it.
All of the tutorials I've checked, and the manual, show how to alter the pictures, but absolutely nothing about the audio needing to be corrected.  :-(

    Then Publish+Share/Computer/Audio with Presets = MP3 - High Quality.
Replacing Original with volume adjusted one
Go back to the (A) Art-in-Motion Folder and move the original Artistic Theme Menu_bg_audio.mp3 from there to a place for
    safe keeping, maybe Libraries/Music.
Then move the volume lowered Artistic Theme Menu_bg_audio.mp3 from its save location that you designated at its export
from Premiere Elements to the (A) Art-in-Motion Folder.
Make sure that the name of the music file in the (A) Art-in-Motion Folder is exactly the same before and after all this.
Note: Adobe has set the file name so that this music file applies to both the main menu and the scene menu.
Any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Looking forward to your results.

  • Where are all the iMovie HD themes?

Where did all the older iMovie HD themes go?

    Hi
iMovie 1 to HD6 - is one application that evolved.
iMovie'08 to 11 - in my opinion totally WRONG NAMED as iMovie and by this implying any relationship at all - AND THERE IS NON - It is a totally new breed and no old functions or Plug-Ins can work here at all.
If Apple had named the product right - it had had my 100% sympathy but by taking credits of a vastly superior product - it only made me sorry.
So - There is no THEMES in iMovie'08 to 11
BTW - Apple did this again with FinalCut - when selling iMovie Pro-X as FinalCut Pro-X - this has nothing to do with original FinalCut either.
Yours - sorry to be of no comfort - Bengt W

The ELA used to be more specific about iDVD themes; now it seems to concentrate on the music.

I was told to Trash Iphoto and reinstall it to remedy a "no available themes" problem.  If I do that will I lose all my photos?

Have you tried to rebuild or repair your iphoto library or database? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638
If you reinstall as long as you don't delete your iphoto library you'll be fine. You'll probably have to tell the new iPhoto which library to use after you reinstall though. Hold the option key down when starting iPhoto and select your library. Also just to be safe I would back up the iPhoto library BEFORE you do anything.

  • IMovie theme problems

I started a new project on iMovie recently. Everytime I try to add a theme it will add it to the timeline and render it but as soon as its done rendering the error sound will go off and the clip is erased. Sometimes the theme stays but when it does (on a rare occasion) it doesnt have anything in it, just black screens. I saved this project to an external hard drive but all the clips work fine just not the themes.
