IMovie messing up the contents

Ok, I have got a website going, and make movies i iMovie 08 and publish it to iWeb. But the movie itself often gets "rearranged" by itself. I am NOT kidding. I can save the project upload it and everything seems fine, but the next time I open iMovie, some of the text can move to different places in the timeline. This is freeking me out, cause I have to redo the text and publish everything again. Including subsription to iTunes. Another issue is that when I drag and drop a trimmed clip to the so called "timeline" all the contents in the timeline disappears. I have to click on another project, before I go back to the project I work on, before I can continue. This happens once in a while.
Any ideas? Maybe throw the mac out the window?

I'm still trying to make my titles go wrong ..haven't succeeded yet, but I'll post back again if I do ..or even if I don't!
It seems to me that this "re-positioning" may be due to a fault in the Project file, which is just a text file: it keeps a note of where things are positioned by the project's running time ..like this (..note that it also uses "control characters" beyond the usual 'ASCII' (printable) characters, so it looks like gobbledegook mixed in with normal letters ..NOTE, too, that the "non-printable" characters may not display properly here in these Discussion pages, as some of the "control characters" may have meanings or effects in HTML which may cause the display to behave oddly..)

If the Project File becomes corrupt (..because there are two or more entries with the same, or damaged, parameters..) then that may cause the titles to "slip".
(Karl Petersen, who used to post here, specialised in "repairing" damaged Project Files, and found that in earlier versions of iMovie an error in writing video frame timings ..a minus in front of a correct frame time, for instance.. would cause clips to be placed at the wrong part of the movie, or to have incorrect lengths. Nothing to do with user error, but a lack of 'robustness' within the way that the program was written.)
Items which can affect the Project File are such things as (a) lack of spare hard disc space on the disc where the project lives ..i.e; usually the 'Movies' folder on the Mac's main hard disc ..or (b) an incorrectly-formatted external hard disc - if the Project is kept on an external disc. All discs holding iMovie Projects should be formatted as 'Mac OS Extended' (..either 'Journaled' or not..) and should NOT be formatted - as most are when they're new - as 'PC Exchange' for use with PCs instead of Macs.
Do you edit your material on an external disc, or the Mac's internal disc? ..If external, is it formatted as 'MAC OS Extended'..?

Why can't I use the content library in iMovie?

I can use every other feature in iMovie except for the Content library. It is not in my side bar, and when i get it from the tool bar above the options are gray like I can't use them.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you're trying to get your Content Library to appear in iMovie, please make sure you have a movie project open, as it should then automatically appear.
You can find titles, transitions, music, and maps in the Content Library. The Content Library is at the bottom of the sidebar once you open a movie project.
If the sidebar is not already open, click Show in the toolbar.
At the bottom of the sidebar, select an item from the Content Library.
In the Browser, your selection appears (titles, transitions, and so on). Drag one to the timeline to add it to your movie.
If you add a title, map, or globe, you can adjust settings in the Adjustments Bar which is located above the Viewer. 
If you add a transition, double-click it in the timeline to adjust its duration.
To return to your video clips in the Browser, select an event in the sidebar.

Canon HF100 import using imovie08 bloated the content size by 8 times

I imported videos from canon HF100 in AVCHD format to iMAC using iMovies 08.
The content in the camera was around 8GB, but after iMovies finished the imported content size on iMAC was 58 GB.
I have imported 1080i videos in large format, but don't think it should increase the actual size by 8 times on import. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1080i AIC movie's datarate is about 89mbps, and AVCHD datarate ranges from 6 to 24mpbs. If you shot your AVCHD footage with 12 or 13mbps rate (usually mid quality setting, depending on camera model) it would explain the size difference.

Moving content from iMovie to iMovie - what's the most efficient way?

If I edit and create movies in iMovie08 on one iMac and I want to transfer the content to iMovie08 another iMac 200 miles away , what's the most efficient way? I prefer not to burn DVDs, because I want to do further work on the movies on the second iMac's iMovie (so I can share them with iTunes and sync them with Apple TV).

Wrong pictures, no-shows, after editing... when running a preview or in full movie mode, iMOVIE does not show exactly the content as was provided in the project field. All files works great in iPHOTO.

Something is wrong with the project that I am working on.
When I add new pictures and movies, some of them will not be played in the preview or fullmode at all. Some pictures are wrongly understood by iMOVIE or there are some kind of weird errors or bugs in the program. I dont really know what the problem can be. All of the pictures and movies are imported from 2 cameras, Kodak and Canon, and they all work great in iPHOTO.
I also use tranistions, text, etc, to make the movie look good.
Here are some examples of the error, all of these picture where taken while running the preview movie. You can see the moment in the movie process by following the red line in the project field window.
1) Here you can see that it shows the wrong picture in the preview compared to the project field.
2) Here it shows the wrong picture and it also displays the wrong picture in an undesired strecthed mode.
3) Here are 2 examples of one picture that blocks the other pictures from beeing seen in the video.
What could be causing these stupid errors and bugz? Until this is solved I have stopped workoing on my movies and project, awaiting a fast fix.

Try this step:
Go to one of the problem points (or even all of the them in the Project Browser) and select it. Under the File Menu>Optimize>Large (960x540). See if will process the clips, still images and try playing it back again.
If Optimize>Large is grayed out, try pulling the clip out of the Project Browser, close iMovie. Open it up again and putting that clip back in its place. Then try to Preview it again and see if playsback properly.
Last thing to try is go to File Menu>Duplicate Project, quit iMovie. Open iMovie, go to the Duplicate Project and see if you get a working Preview from the Project Timeline.

Welcome to the Support Communities!
As a precaution, I would suggest backing up your iPhone to your computer via iTunes as well as iCloud. Then you can delete one of your two backups. The article below will explain all of your options for deleting data or backups from your iCloud storage.

I am having problems with mail after upgrading to snow leopard. When I send an email to somebody, I would get a reply from them but the content of the reply were old emails from months ago. Any ideas what's going on?

For ex. The subject of my email was "List of kids dancing this weekend". Then i would compose my email and send it to the recepient. They responded to my email with the same subject "List of kids dancing this weekend" but the content of the email was the email I received from somebody else months ago. This "phenomenon" happened serveral times already. Please help!

Turns out the auto-complete database is a SQLite DB stored in this folder. Probably the ownership and/or permissions are messed up on your system. Mine (under Snow Leopard) show ownership by me and rw privilege for all files in that directory, including MailRecents....

How can I delete all the contents on my icloud ?

I tried to setup icloud for my iphone and mac today.. disaster.. it kinda messed up my ical and contact ( lucky i got back up file). so I unlinked my computer and phone to icloud and restored all the data.
Next step, I would like to clear all the contents in my icloud. Is there a way to do it rather than delete the item manually?

Visual Studio 2013 deploying incorrectly the content types of a document library

Hello everyone.
I created a SharePoint farm solution in VS 2013. I add four content types (say, C1, C2, C3, C4, based on the Document content type) and I create a couple of document libraries (say, L1, L2). Now I add C1 and C2 to L1, and add C3 and C4 to L2.
When I deploy the solution from VS, I go to the site and found out that L1 has C1 and C2, as expected. However, L2 has C1 and C2 instead of C3 and C4.
I have reviewed for hours the xml files (Elements, Schema, etc.) and all IDs seem to be correct and all properties are in order.
Has anyone come across a problem like this? Any thoughts will be really appreciated, as I'm clueless and frustrated at this point, after hours of dealing with this problem.

No, I don't add them programmatically, I added the "Content Type" and "List" items to the VS solution. It generated some files, including Elements.xml and Schema.xml. Then I used the integrated VS designers to add the content types to
the list. A very run-of-the-mill solution, I think, nothing too fancy.
One thing I noticed is that I created a feature, and everytime I add a new list, instead of using the existing feature, it creates a new one, which I delete, and then add the list to the existing feature using the designer.
Finally, something weird happened today. I opened my VS, opened the solution and there was several feature files created out of the blue by the VS. I thought something was messed up with the Visual Studio Online connection, but it happens anyway when working
in disconnected mode.

Why is my iPod Touch messing up the music library?

Hello,
My iPod Touch is having weird issues with the Music library. I think it started in 5.0.1 but it may have been from 5.0, I'm not too sure about it.
Problem description:
My problem is that my Artist list is corrupt, and my Album list as well. Let me give an example.
Artist list, Alphabetally according to my iPod:

Iron Maiden
Jurk
J
Incubus
Jamiroquai
K
Linkin Park
L
Liquido
Kamelot
As you can see, these artists aren't properly sorted alphabetically. I've tried looking at the Info on those files but my iTunes on my iMac shows the proper order just fine, it's the iPod that's messing up. Also my albums seems to be able to appear under different bandnames, sometimes the full album but sometimes only a couple of songs.
What have I tried so far?
I've tried resetting its settings by going into Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset settings. All that did was messing up my library even more. I had about 18 GB's of music on the iPod but my library suddenly showed only about 25% of that. When I checked the content via Settings -> General -> Info (or About?) it said I had only abou 2 GB's of music on it. However, when I connected the iPod to my iMac, my iTunes told me I still had all 18 GB's on the iPod.
I've tried removing music from the iPod-iTunes sync, and adding it after a sync. Although this did make an artist re-appear, it seemed to mess up the library even more.
I've just tried restoring the iPod. It's been cleared entirely, and then I re-sync'd all my 18 GB's of music and a couple of apps. However, now the library is messed up as previously mentioned.
What am I looking for?
Any advice of tips on how to correct my music library. The alphabetical-order-that's-messed-up is only a minor issue because they're still there, it just annoys me that it's not the way it should be. The albums that are messed up between bands is more annoying because now I can't properly play full albums.

I'm not entirely sure this will help your problem, but since it sounded a lot like my own issue, I thought I'd mention it -- just in case.
I updated my ipod recently to iOS5 and just noticed that some of my artists were messed up -- not necessarily listed under the wrong letter, but some were repeated in both English (as I have them in iTunes) and in Japanese, elsewhere in my music list, which was completely surprising. It also made some of my music show up under completely different names, like the composer instead of the soundtrack, etc. I searched iTunes, in the preferences, and the syncing screen, looking for some sort of setting -- but found nothing.
Eventually, I checked my ipod's actual settings for the 'music' app. There's a setting there that says something like 'sort by album artists', which appeared to have been switched on automatically with the OS update. I flicked it to off and restarted the ipod -- and the ipod's issues were fixed. :3
I don't know if this might be a solution to your problem, but try it anyway! I hope it helps.

Can i stream the content on my airport extreme to my PC, PS3 and iPad ?

I want to purchase either the Airport Extreme (and plug in a 1TB external hard drive) or the Time Capsule. I want to know if it is possible to share the media in either of the drives (movies of all formats avi flv wmv mp4 and songs etc) wirelessly on my PC, PS3 and iPad.
I basically just need an airport express because i need to extend my wireless range by plugging in an ethernet cable. But if i will be able to share the content in a hard drive wirelessly without much mess, then i'd go for the capsule or the extreme. I've googled around and found that its incredibly messy to stream non-mp4 videos on iPad, u need to copy the entire movie onto ipad to watch it and blah blah.
Can anyone tell answer me like u talk to a non-tech freak ? Thanks

See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods available for copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes. Once you have successfully done that, you can safely choose the Erase and Sync option.

I had completed my iDVD project and burned a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the project and put a red frame around the opening screen. Now when I burn the project, it no longer has the opening frame. How can I fix?

I had completed my iDVD project, a Wedding Slideshow with pictures and music, and burned it on a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the original project on my computer and clicked around and put a red frame around the opening screen that has the Wedding theme with music. Now when I burn the project to make more DVDs, it burns but no longer has the opening frame. It immediately opens to the iMovie slideshow. How can I fix so I can burn the entire project with opening frames?

As Bengt suggested make a disk image of the successfully burned DVD using Disk Utility. Then you can burn copies any time you need one.
In the future once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
You can then burn it to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Can I safely delete the contents of Content.IE5?

I'm running MacOS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) and using Bootcamp 3 (I think) so run Windows XP SP3. My Bootcamp drive is formatted in FAT32, There is a hidden folder in Windows called Content.IE5 where, as I understand it, Internet Explorer stores all of its temporary files. My folder has grown to over 700 MB, and it doesn't get any smaller when I click on the delete temporary files button in IE.
The folder itself is invisible in Windows, but I can see it when I navigate through the Bootcamp drive in Mac OS.

As the second link explains, there are severral issues that make it quite difficult to clear the contents of this directory, such as the fact that it belonds to the "default user" and the fact that it is always in use. But as a Mac user running Bootcamp, I have the ability to navigate directly to the directory while running Mac OS and delete the contents manually which otherwise is not possible when running in Windows! My question to the community is should I do it? Or rather, has anyone else attempted this, and if so, did you brake anything in Windows or did it all turn out honky dorey?

Thanks. The clip in the events folder is in Apple Intermediate Codec.
A clip from the same video in the Original Movies folder is also in Apple Intermediate Codec but with larger pixel dimensions. I'm assuming this isn't H.264 as you mentioned should be there? See attached images.
The original movie is shot in 1080p AVCHD. But when I imported it into iMovie I did so at the iMovie optimised 920 x 540px as most movies I edit will only ever appear online for the moment (I do archive original HD footage from important footage to the iMovie Camera Archives for future use).
